The Marathon
Slipspace was a completely bizarre, although not uncomfortable feeling. Although Myra could put down her ease of travel as the means for this comfort. She watched silently as the colours danced on the windows and heat shields of the ship. It was like a show that the nobles of Cylon-3 would pay for; accompanied with music. Myra listened intently to Zasha’s speech as they first entered the slipstream. Zasha was incredibly talented at flying her ship. It made Myra slightly jealous, never having owned her own ship before.
When I’m free, I’m going to buy myself a ship. She thought to herself. It was not a new thought. She already knew exactly what type of ship she wanted and even what she wanted to call it. A Phantom Class Pilot Ship. One of the fastest single person FTL ships in existence, using the classic and powerful Jump Drive. Not as advanced as using a slipstream, but allowed for plenty of distance. It was a beautiful looking ship, able to fly in most interstellar conditions and even safely take off and land on planets themselves. Of course, Myra thought about all the upgrades she would implement; learning plenty about ship construction during her years of taking them apart. One day.
Myra remained quiet while Zasha spoke about her job. Both of their jobs now. She had plenty of experience locating black boxes. Not that she ever kept any. It was just the Black Boxes were often stored next to Ion-Carbide Capacitors or multi-congruent dimensional analytics; both used for ship beaconing and inter-dimensional travel used by most FTL systems. There was also the potential of digging up some safety cable and personal force field generators used to keep the black boxes safe. All of which were highly valuable on the market. Enough to eat for more than a month. If they were truly going to be looking for a wreckage to a ship prized by the owners of a station like Heaven’s Gate, Myra might need to take a look around for anything else of potential value.
“It is better than staying at Heaven’s Gate. I was looking for a way off, and you might have been a heaven-send… pun not intended. Is the Black Box all that your friend wants? Or is there anything else of interest? And more importantly, do you and your friend… have any history of animosity? I was.. brought to Heaven’s Gate due to an acquaintance of mine. I don’t want to die thanks to an acquaintance of yours.”
