I've been taking a look at the current situation while awaiting acceptance, likely about to get to work on an opening post. Seems like things have already taken a less-than-optimal turn

Indeed, people are mostly focused on getting out of dodge as shit hits the fan before it gets on them.

Age: "Born and raised in the Technocracy, all 36 years spent keeping those bum fuck higher-ups safe from the spell slingers. I had enough of sticking my neck out, suppose."
Gender: "Male. Kind of a strange question."
Alliance: "Well, it used to be to the techies back home, but I've done enough dodging fucking fireballs to no end. The spell slingers aren't so bad after all, the crazy bastards."
Appearance: "Mom, bless that woman, always said I looked more like dad. Everyone else usually just said I looked like a prick, and they aren't wrong, to be fair."
Backstory: "I guess if you're interested. I don't really do the...opening up thing, not well anyway.
Like I said. Born and raised in the Technocracy - as deep as deep gets in the heart of that giant. Always loved the big city as a kid, even if I was experiencing it through the window of a torn up little apartment in the shit part of town. Growing up I didn't really have much interest in leaving home, certainly not in blowing shit up. I'm a lot smarter than I show most of the time, or get credit for. I could've gone on to be a civil engineer for the Technocracy - dad's service would have paid for most of the schooling. Damn, I did love school, even if I didn't care much for the people there. Yeah, engineering was the plan originally, even on into secondary school. My outlook changed at that point, after pops bought the farm out on the frontier with the Magi. Mom says after that, I turned into a coarse, dishonest, sly little bastard. Fair enough, though even before then I was getting there. That just accelerated it I suppose.
From then on, It was just a matter of time. The patriotism, the propaganda, the government guys thanking mom for her husband's sacrifice - it all got to a young mind, and I had the fantastic idea of volunteering for service as soon as I could. Given what had happened to pops, momma wasn't so hot on that idea. When she found out that was - I hadn't even told her I signed my life away to a pointless conflict. Might have done it differently, just to save her some tears, but what the hell. There I was, brainwashed and motivated.
I didn't just want to take the mages out either. I wanted to decimate their homes, their countryside, and I wanted to enjoy the very fucking sight of it. That's why I chose the Demo Corps. Nothing pleased my little pea brain more than the 'honor and glory' I'd win by turning that whole fucking country into a magical pile of ashes, by any means necessary, no survivors. I would always tinker with ways to soup up my existing gear, if possible. Surprised I never blew myself up, but I guess I'm just that damn good.
That motivation? It didn't last. Not the 17 whole fucking years I've wasted trying to get that revenge. Has it felt good to blow a couple spell slingers to bits? You bet your ass it has! I wouldn't swap that feeling it gave me for anything in the world, but damn, man. It gets old. We just can't get the upper hand in this fight. The COs bark, and us young guns run out into the slaughter for the glory of the Technocracy, getting melted, vaporized, imploded from the inside, whatever other magic you can fucking think of. I've seen enough of our young kids get slaughter, and I've dodged a few bullets of my own over that time. Nothing's ever going to change.
Not unless I make it change.
Hell yeah I hopped on the chance to get to meet some of the spell slingers face to face. At least it was some kind of change. Turns out after all these years they aren't demons, or hellspawn, they don't have 3 cocks and square tits. They're just people. Admittedly, people with badass superhuman powers, but still. People just the same.
Of course, the brass didn't take too kindly to all that peace and friendship. They threatened to court martial us, or worse. I decided, fuck that. If they want to toss me aside like a piece of garbage after all this fucking time, I'll make sure they don't get to do that without a fight.
There's no fucking way we can win this. We're taking on two fucking giants with just our dicks in our hands. I don't expect to survive this crazy little alliance, but to hell with it. I'm going to go out with a bang."
Class: "17 year veteran of the Demo Corps, I've gotten pretty good at blowing shit up. I've even found a few outside-the-box ways to make others' toys a bit more potent."
Equipment: "My Plasma Cannon is my baby. I've done just about all I can to get her to peak performance - cell igniters, destabilized the plasma chamber, tinkered with the kinetics.
Of course you can't leave home without your rocket lobber. Smooth and simple, and as effective as ever.
Other than that I always make sure I've got 8 plasma grenades on my belt, and a little close range surprise on my leg, just a standard kinetic ammo pistol. Not a great shot with it, but usually don't need to be. I've got a backpack where I keep my BIG shit. Plastic explosives mainly, and a hell of a lot of them. Stable, and safe, at least until I hit the detonator."
Optional
Theme song: "Huh. Sounds a little heroic for me."
Random facts: "I actually can't stand the fucking noise of all the explosives. That's why I wear these big ass earphones so often, I don't have much desire to go deaf."
Finished. Tinkered with the formula of writing an app In Character, because variety is great.

I'm working on the assumption that our anti-hero has already deserted to the NZ for some time. A daring rescue attempt with high explosives and plasma cannons might be in the cards.

That should work, one of mine is like that, and one of the other characters is as well.
I hope things are blown up before people get to the hideout
Incidentally I think I have an idea of where he might be a good fit (I've more or less hijacked direction the current mission, with OP permission [rhyme!]), if you want to hear about it.

Always helps to have a little write-in assistance
And good timing, the acceptance has arrived! Thank you much Dearest OP Leader. I might have to start writing all of my apps from an IC perspective.

I was honestly just going to use magic bullshit as you called it, if it came to that
That said, the pair that's closest to the cathedral is one magi and one technocrat, so, maybe that's enough of a sign that they're not with either side?

Interest on seeing that would probably be piqued enough to give a bit of warning questioning so sure man, anything to not waste some good 'nades

On that subject, since those plasma grenades were presumably designed to kill Magi and not other Technocracy soldiers, do you think they would be detected by a Technocracy scanner? (Trying to think of a good way to avoid blowing up me and Zark's characters)
Oh, and I should be able to get a post up today Zark (sorry again about the delay).
