For as long as everyone can remember, the Technocracy and Magi Imperium have been warring over the superiority of technology and magic respectively. The war has dragged on for centuries and neither side has managed to get the edge over the other, with both sides fully aware that any attempts to use their respective equivalents to WMD, ensuring that neither side will emerge victorious. Instead, skirmishes take place along the borders of both nations. As time went on, people began to get sick of the war. Neither side was making any actual progress, and people were getting killed for no other reason than because their superiors told them to fight. As expected more and more people just stopped, forcing an uneasy peace and even establishing a neutral zone where negotiations and prisoner exchanges can take places.
Some people didn't take the peace as well. Instead venting their frustrations on their prisoners, which understandably made people on both sides uncomfortable. Some even were as bold to sneak out to the neutral zone and met up with people on the other side. As it turns out, they were not so different as they were led to believe. Sadly, it didn't take long for the superiors to catch on to the sneaking out and immediately began to think that instead of people being people, that there were spies and secrets being let out. As a result, tensions skyrocketed, and the people sneaking out were upset by this. They weren't leaking secrets or spying, they were just sick of all the pointless conflict.
The Magi Imperium: Since the discovery that certain humans could manipulate the fabric of reality a group of people made sure to unite these people under one banner. Teaching them how to use and control their abilities for the betterment of the Imperium. It didn't take long for the Imperium to quickly grow to be the dominant force on the planet. With their fantastic power, there wasn't much anyone could do to oppose their wishes. Not for awhile at least. While the Imperium certainly had the best interests of humanity in mind, there were some high ranking members who may or may not have felt that their word meant more than those who didn't possess magical abilities. This came to a head as technology began to grow, reducing some of the need for magic and therefore the reliance on the Imperium to protect them. So the heads of the Imperium did what any paranoid leader would do: Outlawed the creation and use of technology! Of course people had issues with that. Particularly those who used technology to assist their normal lives without having to rely on those who use magic. This inevitably caused the split between the two ideologies. As time went on, the Imperium made sure that technology was demonized throughout history ensuring that no one under it's control would ever try to use it, despite there being no reason not to. Magi are trained from a young age, usually by a single master in the class of their choosing.
The Technocracy: Formed shortly after the Imperium outlawed technology and exiled those who used it. Which happened to be a significant number of people. At first, they even had several magic members among their group that were for the use of technology and helped in the research and development of the technologies now used by the Technocracy. It didn't take too long before the Technocracy earned it's name and quickly demonstrated that it was capable of standing up to the Imperium. At first it was viewed as being just as good if not better than the Imperium. At least until the Magi who helped them get on their feet died and the Technocracy went from demonizing the Imperium to demonizing Magic as a whole. As their technology advanced, the demonization of magic increased. It got so bad that those in the Technocracy who were born with the talent for magic were driven away and back into the arms of the Imperium. Furthering the hatred for one another. The advancements in technology ensure that they could actually ensure that no one was ever born with the talent for magic within their borders. This only served to increase the tensions between the two nations. All warriors of the Technocracy are trained extensively, and almost always make personal modifications to their equipment to benefit them the most.
Alright. That does it for most of the exposition. Basically both the Technocracy and the Magi Imperium are dickheads who both think they're right for following the doctrine they made up. You are a person from either side who is understandably sick of the crap that your side is doing either to you, how badly they demonize the other side despite you having seen that it's really not nearly as bad as they imply. You'll team up with members of your own and the other side having abandoned your own side.
There will be a loose class system for both sides. You can have more than one character, but please try to have a 50/50 split. We don't need one person with 10 wizards and no tech guys. The whole point of the RP is cooperation between members of both sides who ultimately want to improve the world as a whole by showing that technology and Magic can work together! And by bringing down the two most powerful nations on the planet. For simplicity's sake, we'll be using a Pangaea type Earth. The tech is FT level, but feel free to use bullet weapons if that's your character's preference. There's a lot of wiggle room in the classes, so don't feel too locked into one area!
Here are the classes for the Magi and the Technocrats. If you want a custom class, let me know! And yes, later on I will definitely allow the mixing of tech and magic classes, and this list is subject to updates if/when anyone suggests a custom class.
Magi Classes
Elemental: The rawest firepower in the Imperium. No support abilities. They create massive firestorms, lightning bolts, tornadoes, and all that fun stuff. But that means they will need support for when they inevitably get hurt.
Summoner: While not true summoning per say, it's functionally identical. Summoners create large beasts and monsters that do the heavy lifting for them. Typically defenseless without their summons to protect them.
Animator: Similar to the Summoner class, but instead of creating beasts, the Animator takes surrounding debris and creates golems made of metal and stone to protect them. While the golems aren't as intelligent as the beasts summoned by the Summon, there are often more of them. Similar weakness to the Summoner.
Healer: Exactly what it says on the tin. Heals injuries both minor and severe. Usually possess several utility spells like barriers, short ranged teleportation, invisibility ect to assist in the healing of their allies. Usually relies on others to do combat, but may have a defense spell or two.
Enchanter: Also what it says on the tin. Enchanters typically make everyone around them that much better. What's better than a Golem? A golem that's on fire and explodes when it falls apart. Usually has a blade of some sort for self defense. Enchanted of course.
Sentinel: The Jack of all Trades. Fire balls, healing spells, barriers, and more! Though the fire might not be as hot, the heals not as potent, the barriers not as strong, the golems not as big, it's always useful to have a Swiss army knife lying around.
Tech Classes
Armorer: Has a custom suit of power armor, usually specced for heavy weapons or punching things. Varies user to user. Lightly armed without armor.
Architect: The group's engineer! Augmented with a special cybernetic arm that allows for manipulation of Hardlight and matter to create a variety of devices to keep everyone's equipment up to snuff. Can also be used offensively if used to create turrets and walls.
Medic: The team's doctor! Makes sure that your limbs are stitched back on, keeps your nervous system from crashing from repeated lightning blasts, and generally keeps the team alive and well. Armed usually with light or medium weaponry.
Demolisher: Do you like explosions?! Of course you do! These guys are often armed with rocket launchers, plasma cannons, grenade launchers, and lots of high explosives. Not so great at close combat.
Soldier: Injected with NANOMACHINES SON, to make them faster, stronger, and tougher. The Tech's Jack of all trades. Carries a variety of weapons, some grenades, a healing item or two, and is capable of using light power armor. Does a little bit of everything.
Sniper: Armed with a powerful long ranged rifle and jump jets. These troopers kill their enemies from high above before anyone even knows he's there. Not so good in close range though.
Stealth: Given a stealth suit and a close quarters weapon like a pistol or shotgun, these guys sneak around the battlefield or infiltrate a fort and disrupt it from within. Not much in the way of defense if they get caught though.
