OOC: viewtopic.php?p=31671615#p31671615

This is a quick interest thread for those who might be interested in a Technology vs Magic esque RP.

Premise: Humanity is split down the middle between the ideological war between the Technocracy and the Magi Imperium. The Technocrats as their name implies uses highly advanced technology. The Magi Imperium uses magic and they've been at war for as long as humans could bash eachother over the head with rocks.

What you'll be doing: You're a member of one of the two factions and are starting to see that your respective faction isn't exactly blame free. Catching them doing some cruel things to members of the opposite faction who were genuinely no threat. So you fled to the neutral zone and meet up with several other members of both factions who are also sick and tired of seeing the terrible things that are committed by both sides. Obviously neither faction is happy about this and you'll be branded as traitors. The group must learn to overcome their differences and work together to survive and eventually take the fight to the Technocracy and Magi Imperium!

Other stuff: There will be a loose class system that will give you a range of abilities that you can use. Multi-classing can be a thing if you so choose. The Technocracy's tech is designed to be extremely modular to best suit it's user. Magic is capable of achieving many different effects, based on the training one has received.

If/When enough people are interested, I'll make an OOC.

I'm hype for both sides, I feel creativity flowing in each direction.

I'd join, leaning towards Magi, but I'll have to wait until theres a description of each side.

That was a quick shot to the heart. Anyone got any questions? I've got stuff more fleshed out than the OP implies, what kind of classes there are and such, I just didn't feel like typing it all up.

What classes you have in mind? I think one class should be the techies who want to investigate mind control and psychic tech along with more esoteric technology. As for mages how about those who are willing to deal with the darker parts of magic like black magic curses and blood magic, making contact and summoning spirits of the dead and daemonic and lovecraftian entities?

Quite a few. Though magic doesn't work like that in this universe. Magic is just the word for extra dimensional energies that allow for reality distorting effects.

Magi
Destroyer: Immense firepower. Lots of elemental stuff. Tornadoes, fire storms, lightning bolts.
Healer: Heals people. Often have barriers and other supporting abilities like enchanting and teleportation.
Sentinel: Can do a little bit of everything, but not as well as dedicated classes. Eg, a Sentinel can fix a broken bone in a few minutes. A Healer can regrow an entire arm in seconds.
Animator: Constructs out of rock and metal to do the dirty work.

Tech
Armorer: Powered armor. Usually with a large amount of heavy weaponry
Demolisher: Explosions! Plasma cannons, rocket launchers,
Architect: My personal favorite class. Can create complex constructs out of hardlight. Simple stuff like walls, or given a minute or two, floating laser turrets.
Soldier: Jack of all trades.

These aren't all the classes and I'm more than willing to let people make up their own.

So no summoners huh? Maybe we can have Saboteur for those who want to deliver damage over time curses and status aliments along with debuffs?

That could work. Though I figured that would be a class under a class hybrid of healer/destroyer.

Though we're not using stats, so DoT wouldn't be that big of a deal.

Only if it's roleplayed incorrectly or outright ignored.

I think a Summoner class could be good, there's a bit of overlap with the animators, but not too much. A sort of engineer/robot master class as a parallel for technology would probably work as well. Maybe a magical tank/shock trooper class like the Armorers?

Also, you should limit multiclassing as well, since otherwise your two all-rounder classes (Sentinel and Soldier) are going to be largely useless.

I agree on the multi classing, as single classes are implied to be fairly strong on their own.

However, I feel like the Architect class can be expanded to include anything that you're able to create in terms of technology, from robots to clones to hardlight constructs that way it can be the parallel to the Summoner class.

Also, do power armor users fall into the Soldier class?

I can make a Summoner class work with the rules after some thought.

A robot master would fit under the Architect class. As when they get damaged, they're the ones who fix 'em.

Aight. Seems like Multiclassing might be a bit more OP than I thought.

Twas the intention behind the Architect. They use minions and such to fight for them since they're not super combat capable. Relatively speaking.

Their power armor, if they have it, would be much lighter and more basic than someone who specializes in it.

Also, a magical class based solely on the mechanic of enchanting weapons and armor with various effects could be interesting I think.

I did consider that. A buffer like class. It could work. Maybe they carry an enchanted sword of plus 10 to sharp or something. :p

There's a lot of magic class suggestions. I should probably come up with more tech ones.

Could be a self-sufficient class even (unlike healers who are mainly support); I actually came up with them while trying to think of a shock-trooper class for mages, the way techies have Armorers.

As for tech classes, well, possibly medics or pilots. Maybe a stealth-based class?

Seems like Enchanters would be great at making other people shock troopers. At least until we start mixing tech and magic. An enchanted rocket launcher would be horrifying. :p

Ya. Will probably have all of those classes added. Tech needed a dedicated healer class.

Possibly something like a Battlemage or Sorceror from Oblivion.

Maybe the Animator could create a Hollow Construct that they could inhabit giving a sort of magic power armor type suit.
