Only if they win the field, presumably. Between the a decent Republican force not dying instantly, I get minimum two turns to build in, which I can put a new base up in a pinch with in my current build order. It won't be cheap, but it'll be better than being beholden to the local bandits. Probably could even buy one if the Bank gives me an emergency surety loan like RealMeal gave Ulls food. Fifteen food means I can probably count on a fifteen credit loan, so that would just buy a Military Base outright to have landed and ready to back up any Mercs. Plenty to instagib two soldiers, even veterans.

No dice- prefabs come deployed. And, again, you're assuming that the Republic would send literally two untrained guys with no perks. Anything more than that and you can't control the surroundings of my base in the first place. Plus I sincerely doubt you have the economic staying power to outspend me on mercenaries.
