I ask because I think I won't be able to maintain two of my colonies in year ten, but they will be maintained year eleven, so I want to know if I should emergency rush maintenance to prevent armaggedeon or if all I am risking is a bit of downtime.

Sex: M
Date of Birth: March 20, 2033
Appearance: Medium length black hair with brown eyes and a thin, long nose. Face is very thin and structured with bones clearly visible and ears slightly sticking out. Body type is medium/stocky with a height of 5'10''.
District: The Former Islamic Republic of Iran
Biography: His birth was considered a happy affair by the Nur family. Born on the day before the Persian New Year many in the family considered this scion of the House of Nur to be the start of a new beginning for this troubled household. Fleeing from their country after the disastrous revolution his forefathers fled to Canada bringing with them all that they could. Their lives had been shattered and for many generations they were forced to live in exile. That is until the Islamic Republic again felt the fires of revolution born out of desperation and anger towards the corrupt regime. In the year of 2039 the people of Iran rose against their government again, this time demanding the republic they desired so many years ago. The Nur household, fearing the riots and xenophobic protests sweeping the West decided that the time was right to return home and help the revolution there in a country that they might call home again. Thus David at the age of six began his life in the fires of chaos. The revolution was bloody and unlike the Shah the clergy used the Revolutionary Guard Corps to devastating affect in a vain attempt to squash the revolution. This would be in vain once the bombs began to drop. No one knows if it was the West or their own government who dropped the nuclear weapons on Iran but the impact was immediate. Tehran was obliterated and Iran fractured. David was only seven at the time and luckily the family were living in Tabriz up in the Alborz mountains. This city was one of the few areas not entirely destroyed by the atomic bombs. Thus it became the Republic of Tabriz of which Davids father would become the Minister of Agriculture due to his experience as an bio-engineer in the West. Slowly Tabriz would begin to absorb various regions surrounding it until it become a regional power in its own right. In 2047 it would incorporate the southern oil fields of Khuzestan. With these intact oil resources the Republic would eye Tabriz as a target. The war was swift and conclusive with the government of Tabriz being overturned and replaced with a militaristic friendly junta. At the age of 14 he would be forced to flee with his family again but this time the Nur family would be fortunate. The fortune they had collected while in power, through less than scrupulous means, was prepared for this eventuality. Once leaving the region they changed their identities in order to avoid possible assassination attempts by the current Tabrizi government. The Nur family would flee to Rome, the capital of the Republic and the center of human civilization. The family remained there living in comfort purchasing several local industries and research corporations. Though unlike the rest of his family who were content to just live in Rome David had other plans. With the mysterious death of his father and uncle in 2058 he would inherit the vast wealth of his family. Using this wealth he would escape from Earth and its confines.
Education: Educated as a child in Iran in small arms use and bio-engineering under his father's tutelage. He would attend Tabriz Technical School at the age of 12 for two years were he furthered his studies though this was cut short after the Second Imposed War of 2048. He would then attend one of Rome's more prestigious private education institutions where he attained scores allowing him to go to Marseilles University. There he would study Chemistry and Bio-Engineering attaining a double bachelors in the two fields. After graduating in 2054 he would become a lead researcher at Nur Bio-Technology. A R&D firm owned by his family which researched genetic modification of plant and animal life. He would work there for two years and then went on to continue his education at a top Roman University. He would graduate from there with a Masters in Genetic Engineering.
Current occupations: Nur Bio-Technology was the last place of employment as a lead researcher. Currently self employed with several large interests in local businesses with ownership of Nur Bio-Technology (NBT) and Atesh Southern Oil (ASO).

You only need to maintain the facilities though, or does it imply somewhere that you need to maintain colonies?
Now, if you have any facilities from year 0, and you have no maintenance for it, it will just instantly fall apart on January 1st, 2061, or worse, horribly malfunction. An unmaintained ice drill would likely go rogue, break into your biodome and massacre its entire population, and if you have an unmaintained windmill, then god may have mercy on your souls.

Hmm, okay, that's good to know. Though I'm not sure if I should take the colony massacre via ice drill as a joke or serious, knowing your RPs.

Yeah they needed to add some eldritch elements to make them work. The maintenance really consists of lots and lots of rituals.
