Not sure what you mean. Considering that it kicked off the July Crisis and directly led to Austria-Hungary declaring war on Serbia and thereby starting WWI, I would say it was a pretty big deal. Now, if you are saying that many people were indifferent, that may be true, but news media is news media, today or 100 years ago. The Heir to the Austro-Hungarian Empire being gunned down is a big deal no matter what.
