Once We Were Villains
Interest and Brainstorming Thread
OOC-BSthread-IC

Superheroes exist in this world, as do their less righteous counterparts, Super villains. Most of the current youths of the world grew up heroes or reading about heroes, though they have been around since long before that. Throughout history and legends there have been stories of those who could wield fire or fly, or possessed unimaginable strength. Once these stories were thought to be the result of gross embellishment and superstition, it was only during the end of the First World War, that we realized how wrong we were. It was during one of the first British incursions involving Tanks to storm a town in France called Monche-Le-Preux.

The armed forces were told to stay behind and wait while the artillery softened up the enemy positions, unfortunately The Armored division was not told this thus they advanced in the night. The incursion was mostly a success, until the enemy realized they had no infantry support, then the Tanks were stormed. They would have all been killed were it not for an Englishmen later to be known as the Colonel, due to his military bearing and upbringing. His emergence would herald in a new era both for humanity and warfare.

The Colonel was a Meta, (Which is what Superhumans are called now) he could control Metals, though it was not until that moment that he had used his powers on such a scale. This marked only the first of such incidents, as well as the changing of an era. In the decades that followed, Metas played a major part in many notable battles across the world, though this stopped with the onset of the Cold War, another form of Mutually Assured Destruction. So much destruction was caused by Meta’s, especially during the Vietnam and Korean wars. It was during this time that many of the current anti Meta factions were born.

In the Early 2000’s the world’s first Group of Superheroes formed, they called themselves the League. They were based in the US though were from across the world. After the League formed, various Supervillain organizations cropped up, the most notable and infamous of them being The Society. It is still not known how many members the Society had, the only well-known Villain was Samurai, a Meta called Hoitsu Inaba, who became most well-known during the push towards Japan during WW2. They were by far the greatest foe of the League, and they were almost their death.

It happened in 2013, on Halloween; The Society orchestrated a massive series of Crimes, culminating in the only successful robbery of Fort Knox. In the series of battles that followed, the League had the upper-hand, but that all changed in the final fight that happened in New York, an iconic place for an iconic battle. All was going well when the tables turned on the League, the Society had the League on the ropes, and even now it is not known why they didn’t kill them and finish them off. Many suspect that it was because they had proven their point, that the League, as powerful as they were, was still only human and powerless against them.

That is a popular theory but still left major questions unanswered. After the Battle, the League became even more famous while the Society and its members mostly faded from view over the following months. After the disappearance of the Society, the League became less unified than it once was; while the group still exists some of the Heroes in it are rather extreme in their treatment of Criminals, both Meta and normal ones. Other criminal powers rose up to fill the void that was left by the Society breaking up. The most known of these organizations is the Syndicate, a large mafia style organization held together by loyalty; they have a sort of honor and have started wars for slights against them.

The younger members of the Society, those who did not fade entirely from public view have recently tried to reform the Society, and have extended invites to Villainous Metas, both the other original members and newer Metas that show promise. While they set their plans in motion other forces start to move as well. The League has started to recruit new members after many of the more radical faction were expunged due to certain incidents that caused more enmity against Metas. Other major factions have been moving as well, the SID has been upping their recruitments. The Syndicate as well, throughout the country and their seats of power have been recruiting and consolidating their forces.

Welcome to the Once We Were Villains Interest and Brainstoming Thread. In This rp you will be playing a Villain, with the occassional anti-hero, Who is or once had been a part of a Supervillain organization called the Society. You are not limited to being in jsut the Society though. This will serve to garner interest and to catalogue any ideas and thought you guys or i have about the rp.

Organizations and Factions

Postby Shadowwell » Fri Mar 31, 2017 12:47 pm

Organizations and Factions

The League: The most powerful and successful superhero Organization n the world currently. Though for the most part they are united there are several factions within it.
The Society: A Legendary group of supervillains formed years ago, that had vaished from public view until they reemerged recently.

The Syndicate: The Syndicate began as nothing more than a relatively normal criminal organization. As Metas emerged they had to change how they did things. Since the fall of the First Society they have gained much influence and power. They are akin to a mafia style organization when it comes to their leadership and how they operate.

The Untainted: The Untainted are an organization of humans, that actively protest against Meta’s, hero or Villain. They believe that Meta’s are an inhuman aberration that should not exist. They are unreasonable in their ventures, but as of yet have not publicly escalated to acts of violence. The Leadership of the Untainted are mysterious and largely unknown to most of the Major Powers. There are many factions some more radical than others, largely they are fanatical, but not to the point of being willing to give their lives easily. Some of the factions are more religious than others, some merely protest, but others are much like the KKK.

S.I.D: The Superhuman Investigative Division, is a government fnded and mostly human staffed organzation. They operate within the public eye mostly, and are publicly a special branch of several different Law enforcement offices. They deal with Superhuman related crimes and incidents and work alongside the League adn other similar groups.

The Origin of Meta's

Due to the research done on Meta's during WW 2 and the Ensuing Cold War, it was discovered that all Meta's, regardless of whether they were born with their powers or they awakened later, all had a certain gene. Many Meta's currently operating were born with their powers, with the gene fully active. It was discovered that the Dormant Gene can be awakened through various means. The least dangerous, is when the person goes through a period of immense emotional turmoil, the bodies natural chemicals force it to become active. Other ways are certain types of radiation or special serums, that have long been since made illegal. Unfortunately many of the procedures that forcefully awaken the Gene either make one mentally unstable or kill them outright.

There are three main classifications of Meta Types, the Mundane, the Mystical, and the Inhuman. Mundane Meta's usually have physical related powers, or perhaps mind related powers in the form of Kinesis abilities. Mundane powers are usually constrained by the boundaries of science. Mystical powers are magical in nature, but can be similar to the powers exhibited by Mundane powers. They work outside the bounds of science, atleast it is difficult to determine how they work. Generally they are more powerful, but they can also be more costly, generally speaking they take a toll on the body or have other costs. Inhuman Meta's have powers that manifested in a way that disfigured them. They appear monstrous in appearance, and have suitable powers, many look animalistic though some look demonic or the like. They are mentally unsound for the most part are shunned by many other Meta's.

General info and accolades

Postby Shadowwell » Fri Mar 31, 2017 12:48 pm

The Rock

Alcatraz prison was arguably one of the most successful prisons ever created. It was a relatively large success, and no prisoner had ever officially escaped from it, forming a legend of sorts. After operating for many years, officially for 35 years, but altogether for around 50 or so years. It was closed down in the 60's and the entire facility was renovated for many years and adapted to house Meta's. It was one of the first official facilities to do so, the general layout of the prison is much the same, though underground levels created when it was a military prison were expanded. The prison makes use of reinforced cells along with inhibitor devices to deal with lower class Meta Criminals.

The more dangerous Meta's are house in the underbelly of the Island. It houses both the villains and their Gear, for example the former Leader of The Society, Hoitus Inaba, as he is known by, is kept seperte from the Naginata that granted him his powers. They make use of inhibitor fields as well as devices and is mostly self contained when compared to the Above. They have seperate power stations and generator banks for any power issues and they also have several aquaponics bays and gardens for food and other needs. They have recently been experimenting with raising animals or creating genetically enhance meat substitutes, with some success. The Rock is not the only such facility, but it is the most well known and successful.

Inhibitors

Working Inhibitors were first developed by the Soviet Union during the Cold War. They were a Side project that went along with the Meta experimentation that they had been doing. Though most of their research and discoveries were based off of the Research they took from the Germans after the raid of Berlin in WW2. That alone was part of the reason why the Soviets took part in the assault on Berlin and why they let the Us have their Nukes. For what use is a powerful explosive in the face of a Meta who can manipulate such things or who would simply be unaffected by it. After WW2 they threw most of their resources into research and development of Meta matters, the only reason they helped other countries during the Cold War era was they needed certain things for their research.

Inhibitors work by smothering or suppressing the Meta Gene, you could say. They prevent it from continuing to supply the powers to the Meta. Some Inhibitors work differently, as some Metas literally cant survive without their powers, or their powers are of a physical nature and thus cant be suppressed that easily. Just as their are different grades and types of Metas and Meta Powers, Inhibitors come in multiple forms. Most are in the form or shape of collars or anklets or bracelets, others in the shape of handcuffs. Aside from the inhibitor tech accessories there are also Inhibitors darts, that can temporarily supress both the powers and consciousness of a Meta.

Inhibitors are most widely used by the League and the SID, when detaining hostile Meta's. Most Inhibitor research and breakthroughs are done by regulated private companies. The Company behind The Rock, Xylon Global, a former pharmaceutical company, is the foremost authority in the matters to do with Meta's. For a period of time, they have been working on a way to cure some of the more inhuman transformations caused by the Meta Gene. This is being heavily watched by the League and the Meta related Government organizations.

Well you could have a character who was a former villain, but something happened that caused them to change, thus they are doing acts of good now.

I wonder if I could RP a major anti meta - or as he refers to them, "fallen ones" - officer commanding a secret government agency made to fight both of meta groups should any of them go rouge.

I will also eagerly take on myself role of main villain in this RP. This is the role I love playing.

A ruthless anti-meta antagonist sounds like something this RP would do well with, at least to me. Also, I'm assuming you mean rogue rather than the French word for red, "rouge". :p

On a seperate note, I have a few character ideas myself.

Formerly Videssos. Just a femboy-obsessed degenerate. Also interested in history, mythology, fantasy, science fiction, metal and some other stuff.
A little bird told me, "Go, Go! Socialise! Talk to those fine people! And then, KILL EVERY LAST ONE OF THEM! Plunge your knife into their throats when they ain't lookin', and then burn 'em to the ground!"

Possibly, you could have this organization be a shadow ops branch of the SID, Superhuman Investigative Division.

The focus will be on the villains certainly, but will allow people to play characters in the other factions, probably not the league though.

Even if they are a government organisation, would it be possible for my 17 [Or 16] year old metahuman to join the S.I.D?

If not I'll make them independent.

Secret Identity: Max Collins
Alias: Sphaeram
Age: 17
Personality: WIP
Appearance: http://www.fightersgeneration.com/nx3/c ... stumes.jpg
Meta type: Mundane?
Affiliation: S.I.D
Powers/Skills: Max can create and control energy drawn from his aura depending on his emotions, which can be exerted as offensive abilities. If angry, his aura will be quick and powerful, but destructive and having poor accuracy. If sad, his aura will be hopelessly weak, but progressively stronger as the sadness is overcome. If happy, he will have a fast aura that minimize pain. If scared, having mixed emotions or surprised, attacks will be random or just poorly drawn out. If he is stoic, or without any particular emotion, no aura can be drawn. If in disgust or discomfort, his aura will be even weaker than any other emotions.
Weaknesses: His powers depend on his emotions. As you can see, certain emotions can be weaker than others, if he has disgust/discomfort for example, its powers are no better than fighting with his own two hand and two feet. As long as you are aware of this, you can attempt to modify his feelings [Either with a power, or naturally] and take advantage of his emotions. His power is strong, but any shield and/or reflection-based powers can block it, and it will take several hits for someone to actually be killed, and if your lucky and he somehow feels happy when your fighting him, you can die without much pain. Two personal disadvantages that wouldn't classify as weaknesses, but I'm including anyway is clumsiness and a 'naive' judgement, always rushing into things on the spot.
Backstory: Born in Nova Scotia, Canada, Max was pretty much a normal child, and had a normal life, early on at least. He always looked up to the League, he wanted to become a hero, battle crime and make a career out of it. That probably wasn't going to happen, and it sort of almost did, at one point. His first chance arrived around age 14, Max never knew he had his powers, but his school was invaded by ex-Society scum. They weren't lucky to have their guard down, and shouldn't have made the decision to harm Max's 'crush'..well ex-crush currently. His anger aura was activated, and he didn't know what happened or what he was doing, but it was like he was possessed. He stormed out of the room, and beat the crap out of the assailants, of course being just a kid, he was EVENTUALLY thrown aside like a little weakling, but he still managed to take out a few until running out of energy, and was becoming less angry...and more in shock. The police, backed up by at least two members of the League arrived and took down the remaining villains. Who to thank for finishing most of the job? Max. And he even tried to use that as a way to join..but it didn't work out the way he planned.

Max continued his life, his schoolmates in awe and the residents of his small fishing town in shock, he actually didn't like this..it was like everyone was afraid to disturb him, that or wanted an autograph. But one day, he was contacted by the Syndicate, he had a bounty on his head. So they stormed his house at night, and than left not too long after, and the night went on as calm as it did before. But Max was gone. Gone ment locked up somewhere, not even in Canada anymore. His owner was a mad scientist, Dr. Fitzpatrick, who wanted to test his emotions and capabilities, for no apparent reason. He did tests over and over, collecting notes and investigating different patterns of aura, for a specimen he named Sphaeram. He was an ass for locking Max up, but did feed him well and gave him a nice room, with some nice accommodations, even if it was all part of the test. Dr. Fitzpatrick had powers too, he could move objects with his mind. One day he died, but he was old and had achy bones, he knew he wouldn't last, so he used his death as a way to trigger false clips of Max's family being executed. Sphaeram got angry, and left, but according to a long video clip prepared by the late Fitzpatrick himself, it was all false, which it was. Sphaeram was told of passwords among passwords to rooms, many rooms containing videos, files and papers. Why was Fitzpatrick doing this? Simply curiosity. Max stepped out the door into the streets of Las Vegas,

Secret Identity: ??? Icarus
Alias: Phantom Eyes/Robin Hood
Age: 22
Personality: WIP
Appearance: http://www.ricedigital.co.uk/wp-content ... gonist.jpg
Meta type: Mundane
Affiliation: Independent
Powers/Skills: He can shapeshift and create illusions [Multiple 'copies' of himself, obscure imagery that only one being can see]
As for skills, he is skilled at stealth, moving around without being noticed.
Weaknesses: He is mute, and cannot speak, only giving out weak, and painful grunts and groins. He is also not good with hand-to-hand fighting, firearms or melee combat, and relies on throwing weapons, poisons and knives, for silently taking down enemies without them noticing. Not to mention how tiring it is to use his ability more than once or twice within any period longer than an hour, he can get migraines, and has enough understanding to know not to overruse his gifts. As long as you are perceptive or lucky enough to notice him and quick and accurate enough to reach and land hits on him, your good.
Backstory: Born in Jefferson City, Missouri, or at least thats what he can gather from those who have watched him and his every move since his birth, Icarus was once a normal child, or at least under the false thought he was one, no it was more than a thought, it was a belief, Icarus knew, or thought he knew he was normal, he hated metas, because thats just where he grew up, it was drilled into his head, he believed metas were monsters, and that he wasn't one, religiously, even if he saw his own abnormal doings. What a funny kid..so, why was he being watched, and monitored you ask? Not just the power he held..but family ties..his father was a very bad man...in fact his father was part of a lineage of pure rotten, corrupt bastards who killed entire families solely from pleasure,..not that he knew..but he was also a high-ranking member of the Society...and he was so messed up, so twisted, so evil...most other members of the Society, as bad as they were, feared, opposed or utterly despised his actions, and existence.

Icarus's father knew a lot of effort would be needed to brainwash his son, so he made an order...an order to take away his son's memory, everything up to that moment for Icarus, at age 13, would be..gone, for him..so it happened. A new child was born...well, not really, but to the Society and Luke Icarus, there was. Its name...Phantom Eyes, a fitting name for his its appearance and expertise, all the memories were just stored on a little black chip that was thrown in the trash somewhere in New York City, where a certain group of individuals would soon discover it and its owner after a huge conflict in the area. Phantom Eyes went on to becoming one of the best junior operatives of the Society, shame it had to end in seven years...when his memory returned. How? Lets say a certain, massive battle gave the League a little devilish relic, and they attempted to do what they thought was best: Return his memories and attempt to sway him to their side. It didn't work the way they expected. Icarus abandoned both the Society, which he once worked under for so many years, and the League, the true heroes who tried to persuade him to their side, and those who have given him what he once lost. But it wasn't worthless, at least they made him retaliate. One sleepy Saturday night, the father of Phantom Eyes and five of his comrades ended up dead. Icarus earned the title of anti-hero, which he retains through his deeds, taking down the corrupt or evil for the benefit of the poor, among other less righteous hobbies, earning another, but less commonly used title, Robin Hood. Theres one thing he never remembered though...his real, first name..

If not I'll make them independent.

Its possible but doubtful, since they would technically work in a governmental capacity they would need to be of age, ie above 18.

Would anyone mind if i changed the premise and concept a bit?

It will still be mostly the same, but it will changed to allow people to be from all factions, to a point and not just The Society, with ocassional members of the other factions.

Somewhat interested in this if I have time during the next month.

Out of curiosity, what was the goal of The Society?

Originally it formed when a group of like minded villains came together, and decided to shift the status quo from always being in the favor of the Heroes. They almost destroyed the League which was a goal, but Hoitsu inaba the undisputed leader at the time had everyone pull back at their moment of triumph, afterwards the Society shattered after he vanished and their differences showed.

Each memebr of the Society had different goals, to a point, but mostly it was towards what i said above, does that help?

A let's be bad together union? Seems a little... anticlimactic for a super-villain group. Better super-villain organizations tend to have a goal, even a somewhat noble one, but absolute shite tactics. Things like the Brotherhood of Mutants from later X-Men continuities.
