You don't hear Han ever describing a Droid holdout in the Outer Rim or anything like that, right? ;)

Having it be in a place no one else has ever been to until now(The Unknown Regions in this case) would be the course of action that would the least conflict with the Star Wars story as of far. Speaking of which, I wonder how "The Last Jedi" will effect our RP. Do we expect it to last so long?
You're the guy with the csi fleet from kashyyyk who wanted all the prototype plans if I correctly recall.

You don't hear him discussing Sith Inquisitors, Thrawn - or really anything about the Empire -, the Old Republic, the Clone Wars, or how Obi-Wan is wearing his Jedi robes while supposedly in hiding. What we do hear is him trying the moves on a princess, and complaining about his debt to Jabba. (I didn't really understand the point being made.)

Fair enough. And not at all in all probability.

They are. Would take roughly a third of any minor power's starting budget, and have add a minus to a planet's credit production. Not something a minor player can afford so early, outside of the sentient mining facility. Their production is ridiculous.

I actually make more money than they do from what they said earlier, but I managed to snatch up two garden worlds, so that was a big help. Only reason I don't have one is I wanted to insure a good economic and military base before I branch into espionage and research.

Well, formally he only holds one of the worlds. But we do have a bit of a dearth of empty systems to place new apps in.

It'd be rather mean to steal planets from someones starting system at this point, so I'd rather stake my claim in a system with no one over one where someone wants to get started.

Now you make more than me, I invested a fair amount into military turn one, but I could theoretically easily conquer you, I won't (Like when I play Civ, I prefer to be diplomatic and economic with enough military to resist hostilities) but if IC you provoke me, I can't make promise. Turn two can and will be a big economic turn for me, especially if my attempts to claim a system aren't contested. After that, back to balance, maybe build a research station (I have one big idea and a few small ones already)

I intend to go into research & espionage fairly soon as well. Maintaining a technological/economic lead over my neighbours and preventing attacks via creative realignment of my neighbours' internal politics seems to be more in line with the Auroran Industrial Commonwealth's general theme. I'll also consider a defensive pact with either the New Republic or the Empire/Sith.

What I don't want to be doing is building up my military and trying to slug it out dreadnaught-to-dreadnought.

Inspired by both Halo's Hunters and this very universes own Droideka, I have come up with the design of one of the few battle droids the Aurora Stratocrac uses.

Overall shape is mostly similar to that of a hunter, though it doesn't have the weak points on the back and neck. It's armor is overall lighter than a hunters, and it's shield arm isn't metal, but rather a shield projection similar to the Droideka but localized to the arm (Like the *shudders* Gungan shield-shields) When in combat it hunches much like the Halo Hunter to protect it's less well armored belly. The end of it's shield arm usually has a spike or blade with which to engage in melee, and it's right arm has one of three primary weapons and one of two secondary weapons. The first primary is a blaster shotgun, the second primary is a arm mounted repeating blaster (Blaster Machinegun/Minigun) and the third is a arm mounted mortar. The secondary weapons are (Not counting melee here) either an embedded heavy blaster pistol, or a grenade launcher (Never paired with the mortar). When deactivated, the unit curls up as small as it can for more compact storage. Mostly used in defensive positions as it is slow moving, and ill-suited for the mobile, fluid offensives that the Stratocracy's military prefers, though it is not uncommon to see them aiding battalions while establishing a beach head in fights. It's armor is made of Bronzium, much like the Droideka, and is cheaper (Droideka's used starship grade generators, mostly to power the full, rather strong shield bubble) while being about as effective in it's designed role, though it isn't quite as flexible as the Droideka.

The Commonwealth's experience in armaments design and military technology is outdated at best and more often negligible. Naturally, the Commonwealth does not feel comfortable building weapons to specifications, and has instead adopted the doctrine of mass-producing generic weapons, hedging on their high reliability and low cost to counteract their lack of tactical specialisation and expertise.

The Auroran Industrial Commonwealth thus fields combat drones that are far simpler. They are small tripod drones covered in conventional metal alloy armour armed with dual 5mm plasma carronades (lovingly called 'pulse rifles' by the Commonwealth) and equipped with a small AI computer just barely intelligent enough to decide whether to duck and cover or charge and fire. They are mixed in with minimal light artillery.

On the plus side, they cost a measly 450 Credits per drone (or, to put it in RP mechanics terms, 9 credits per unit), and are infinitely mass-produceable.

THe Company keeps a active, trained military force on hand to protect its interests. Usually armed with blaster rifles and stylized Katarn combat armor. As for droids, we keep a few salvaged B-2s on hand for automated defense.

Well most of it, really. In my early days on NS, I tended to jump headfirst into RPs and ended up causing problems because I didn't understand the minor details.

Hmm, well, the RP is pretty self-explanatory. Basically you use credits to buy infrastructure and military units. Infrastructure makes more credits, while military units prevent other people from taking your infrastructure.

Alright how would the military work at the start, exactly? I'm slightly confused by it because the Chiss are described as regimented race with a large, powerful military. Similar questions about planets and infrastructure.

Well, the Chiss per se aren't in this RP, by word of OP. You could apply as a Chiss splinter state or the like though, using one of the Independent Faction templates and an empty system.

It's due to the fact that compared to the other pre-established factions, little is known of them, so making a good starting app as a major established power was more problematic than anything else.
