Alrighty, so now that we've passed the 5 RPer mark I'm starting work on the IC and will hopefully have it done tomorrow. I'm currently assuming all the player characters are going on the recon mission, but if anyone would rather stay at the base then just let me know. Similarly the RP is going to remain open for those writing apps and thinking of applying, but I can delay the IC if anyone would prefer.

Also, added the faction app to the OP.

What will my character do?

Well, all chars except those not connected to the UN forces would be going on the recon mission

The UN forces are the real plot focus at the moment, but I'm writing up an app for an Imperial character originally meant to give me a way to express their side of events. I might be able to use them to give Aurea someone to interact with, and we could try brainstorming some ideas over TG on how to get her involved

Faction Name here Gahnospinel Mining Company
The Gahnospinel Mining Company is one of the most influential privately-owned entities both within the Empire and without. Rising from the ashes of the Tourmaline Mining Company, the firm has expanded to harvest anything found in the earth, from rocks to metals to gemstones to artifacts. In many ways a guild, government, and corporation, the Company has its own militia and personal interests. The Gahnospinel Mining Company has always been at odds with most elves and their environmentalist policies, but the Company is quite tolerant of and employs members of all other species, including humans, giants, intelligent beasts, warrior bunnies, drow, and even turncoat elves. Each race has its function within the Company, and leadership could come from anywhere.

Currently, the Company is run by the Daskalarchy, a group of the smartest and most experienced members of the firm. They often train newcomers how to mine and prospective leaders how to run the Company. The Company has a number of tools and equipment that couldn't be found anywhere in the Empire, but their technology is constrained to Malthusian limitations, meaning that their prosperity is linked only to the land they possess and the number of workers under their command. As a result, the Company often recruited the scum of society to work in low-level jobs.

Biography:
Born into a life of Imperial nobility, Cornelia was the eldest daughter among her siblings and a gem in the crown of her family. Groomed from a young age for a life in the aristocracy, no expense was spared on her education and the girl displayed an eagerness to better herself. Relentless in her studies, Cornelia would spend hours practicing a new skill, relishing the challenge that each presented. She possessed a curiosity tempered only by a sense of responsibility to her younger siblings and an unyielding determination. As a child, Cornelia accompanied her parents to balls and galas. Presented to the Imperial aristocracy, she stood vibrantly apart from the other children of her age. While her peers were either too shy or too brash, having much to learn in the mannerisms of such things, Cornelia navigated the greetings and conversations with grace. Attention was showered upon both the young girl and her parents, praise and compliments abound. It seemed as if Cornelia would grow into the exemplar of a fine woman of court, and yet she came to choose a different path.

When she was 11, Cornelia was taken by her parents to welcome a Knightly Order as they passed through her home. Eager at the opportunity to gain some valuable political points, Cornelia’s parents had wasted no time in throwing a grand festival to greet the noble warriors. They made sure to have their prized daughter by their side when the Order’s Leader met with them personally. The entire spectacle dazzled the young girl, her mind entranced by the shining figures and heroic tales. As the Order’s Leader had approached her hosts to offer the expected thanks, Cornelia could feel little else but the incessant pounding in her chest, her mind a whir as the usual pleasantries were exchanged. The Knight had turned to her, a generous smile gracing her features, and Cornelia had decided at that moment to strive to stand as proud as she.

She convinced her parents to allow her to train alongside her brothers, throwing herself at the task with a passion that she had not reserved for any of her studies before. The weapons were unwieldy and the armour always a few sizes too big, but Cornelia was not to be deterred. The young girl quickly caught up to her brothers in skill, even coming to surpass them in time. By the time she turned 17, Cornelia had grown into both a graceful woman and a fearsome fighter. It was with little surprise that she was inundated with requests for her hand and offers from Courts across the Empire, but only one truly caught her eye. Bearing the Seal of the Emperor’s Guard, was a request for the maiden to join the Order as a squire training to take on the mantle of Knighthood. Cornelia’s parents were only too willing to grant their daughter leave, having one of their family so close to the Royal Court itself being more than they could have ever hoped for. It would be within the Order that her new name was bestowed upon her – Cornelia – as a ritual welcoming her into the fraternity of Knights.

Leaving her home behind without a backwards glance, Cornelia met the rigorous training with her typical determination and rapidly proved herself in the eyes of her mentor. By the age of 19, she had fought within her first battle and by 21 she was granted the honour of a full Knighthood within the Order. The ceremony was her first personal contact with the Emperor, and the proud young woman caught the wizened ruler’s interest as he came to realise her potential. Cornelia served with honour and expertise, becoming decorated for her actions in the Empire’s wars and receiving commendations for her actions in putting down a rebellious province with minimal losses. She came to receive the honorific title of Countess for her services for the Empire, the youngest Knight ever to do so.

Gradually given roles of increasing responsibility and leadership, Cornelia earned both the respect and admiration of her fellow Knights as well as the Imperial Court. When the Emperor declared the creation of a new Knightly Order to serve as his sword and shield, enforcing the Pax Imperia across the continent and the lands as his chosen warriors, Cornelia was one of the first to be asked to take on the challenge.

Personality:
Unwavering in her loyalty to both the Empire and her Emperor, Cornelia is a proud defender of her people and a firm believer in her responsibility as a Knight of the realm. She views the Empire as a glowing light in the savagery of the world, a beacon of hope and greatness to which she owes both her undying fealty and life. In battle she has proven herself to be ruthless towards her foes, achieving victory against insurmountable odds at any cost. She views the enemies of the Empire with disdain, but reserves the harshest punishments for traitors and rebels. As a noble, she feels that she was born to defend and rule the peasants, such is both the gift and responsibility bestowed upon her by birth. Society has a firm structure in her mind, and it is only with folly and disrespect that one seeks to shift from their predetermined place in its strata.

Outside of battle, Cornelia has proven herself to be a woman of grace – an exemplar of civilised society that has made her welcomed in the Empire’s Courts as a welcomed figure of reasons and politics as well as that of war. She has earned herself many friends and admirers over the years, gaining the respect of her superiors for her steadfast humility and devotion, as well as the trust of her subordinates for her skill.

Default Main Weapon & Specials: In battle she wields a broadsword, but for enhanced mobility she also often wields a sabre.

Additional Munitions: While it is often too bulky in addition to her armour, Cornelia is more than capable of using other weapons from pikes to crossbows.
Uniform Model: A full set of plate armour crafted by some of the Capital’s finest blacksmiths, a gift from the Emperor himself upon her assignment to the newly formed Order of the Crown. It has the emblem of her Order and etched into the chest plate and the Emperor’s seal on the shoulder guards.
Misc. & Other Stuff: In the heat of combat, anything else would just slow her down.

There you are.

Feel free to post about your characters actions before they receive word about the meeting in the mess hall. They would have already known that they'd been selected for an upcoming mission outside the FOB but still would not have been filled in on all the details. As for Imperial characters, you've got a fair bit more free reign at the moment, but I'm planning to have my char be in Italica which could be a source of interaction.

As a child, Robert wasn't all that extraordinary as he tended to keep to himself and the few books his parents could scrape together for him. As he grew older, however, he opened up and began to work harder in order to help his family make ends meet. By the time Robert was in 6th Grade, he began working for the Pittsburgh Gazette as a news paper delivery boy, waking up around 4 a.m. to get his stacks of papers by 5 a.m. By the time he was in High School, Robert was in peak physical condition and ran track for Keystone Oaks Area High School, and academically, Robert was solid and got mostly B's with some A's in all of his classes. So it was a surprise to everyone, especially his parents, when Robert decided to enlist, instead of going to the University of Pittsburgh. At first, his parents tried to talk him out of it, but Robert insisted that he wanted to spend some time in the Army and earn his G.I. Bill before going to U. Pitt.

After enlisting, Robert went to Fort Benning, Georgia for basic before moving to Fort Knox for Armor school. There, he trained as a gunner on the M60 Patton before moving to the M1 Abrams three months before being assigned to the 11th ACR in 2000. After 9/11, Robert and his unit were deployed to Iraq as part of Operation: Iraqi Freedom, and Robert's Tank, Kilroy, was the one filmed blowing up the statue of Saddam Hussein on April 7th, 2003. Robert would serve five tours (ranging from 2003-2008 in Iraq before returning to Fort Knox as an Instructor for the M1A2 before being accepted to OCS in 2013. Looks good to me, accepted. The one thing I'd say is that there may be less roles for a tank crew outside of major battles since I doubt the UN would send such heavy armour out on a recon mission or the like. There's absolutely no problem with your character being a tanker, but just fair warning that it may limit interaction. I don't know about the realism of it, but if he were also trained in operating IFVs and the like then I could squeeze him into the recon squad if you'd like.

I'm writing my post now. Gardener is trying to identify the thousands of imperial dead left around Alnus Hill, so that they can be returned to their families or at least buried with a modicum of decency. So he's outside the perimeter with the local POWs and allies, sorting through the corpses that the retreating Imperial Army has left behind. Osira is probably out there with him, and Haapsalu and Okoya may be helping as well.

How about I change it to the M8 Buford, and later on, return to the Abrams.

After all, there is talk about bringing them back, and who knows, maybe this is the event which brings it back.

I don't think the M8 ever went into service, although a little bit of alternate history never hurt anybody if you're set on it. Personally I'd recommend something along the lines of the LAV-25, but I'd accept either so if you'd rather RP some heavier firepower then go for it

Sounds cool. I'll wait for it to go up and then write something up for Osira. Fair warning, I'm planning to do a bit of sketchy reposting from the last thread, but I'll spoiler it for anybody who doesn't want to trawl through it.

Well, actually that's what the Marines use, the Army uses the M2 Bradley, and since my character's Bio shows he was with an A. Cav. Unit, it wouldn't be out of the question that he knows how to use them.

Though the reason I wanted to go with the Abrams, is because in the Anime, you see Type 74s moving through the Gate, but I can use the Bradley if that would be best for you. I am very flexible when it comes to stuff like this.

Operation Forward until Dawn: UN Personnel File

Required Information

Biography: Boudewijn Davids, born Boudewijn van Velzen, has always been an idealist individual. He was the kind of kid that would join the school debating team, sit on the Student Board at his school, and protested in whichever way he found pleasing. This always seemed his drive in life: studying hard to change the world one way or another. It’s also how he chose his field of study. Law seemed the place where he could change the most. Not that that kept him from his day-to-day business of protesting, though. In the late 90’s and early 2000’s, he participated actively in the protests to legalise gay marriage, finally getting the legalisation passed in 2001. Six years later, he married the love of his life, Pieter Davids, whose surname he then took as his own.

When he was 24, he graduated his master’s degree from the University of Leiden, where got the LLM title in the field of international law. His doctorate he achieved in a research in ‘ius in bello’, or the ‘laws of war’. As part of that research, he had travelled the world and met with various top officers to discuss the subject. This gave him a practical and theoretical understanding, which helped him gain his doctorate. After his dissertation, he was accepted to teach at the University, making him a professor for a short amount of time, during which he tried to teach students as best as he could.

However, his idealistic nature still got the better of him. When the Syrian civil war broke out, he immediately joined the Red Cross as a legal adviser and an overseer of the conflict. He did a lot of research into the use of poisonous gasses by the various sides during the civil war, and tried his best to fix international eyes on the conflict and the refugee crisis that was attached. In that time, he tried to become prosecutor for the International Criminal Court, but someone else was chosen for the position. Instead, he opted for permanent UN employment, and the impressive track record really spoke for itself. He was taken on almost immediately.

And then, the Gate opened. While national governments fell over each other over who should lead the military mission, Boudewijn was doing his best to assemble a legal team to represent the UN in that foreign land. He feared that the coalition army, not knowledgeable of that world, would commit horrendous war crimes in the name of protecting earth. He wanted to make sure that the rules of engagement were followed by the letter, and by all participants. Thus, he opted for a hands-on approach, following the UN army in the earliest wav possible, setting up a small office at the FOB. From there, he briefs officers on their responsibilities, and keeps an eye out for possible treaty violations. He would love to speak with representatives of the Empire, to explain to them their legal ramifications of a war, but until then, he has taken to talking with whatever prisoners the armies take, both to improve his language skills and to get a sense of how the Empire works. For him, it is as much a scientific endeavour as it is a military operation.

Personality: Idealistic as much as anything. He is hungry for knowledge, and happy to help where he can. However, he is a very stern follower of the law, and will have no patience if you break your treaty obligations.
