Well, to be entirely honest, that's sort of one of the ulterior motives behind my character being present. He's got Ranger CQB training alongside his sniper expertise and training. His primary job is to do whatever the UN peacekeepers ask within reason, his secondary is to recover all lost or missing humans from the Special Region, and the final is to obtain intelligence regarding the enemy and how best to neutralize their offensive capabilities. In short, he's got limited license to kill if he feels a threat is endangering an American citizen of which there were about a dozen taken from Stockholm.

However after graduating college Martin found himself rather lost in the world. To help give himself stability like he had become accustomed to with school he signed up for the United States Army shortly after his Twenty-third Birthday. With his athletic skills and academic history he excelled, however he turned down the opportunity of Officer Candidate School funneling him into a Communications Specialist Position. He spent a year training and learning the ins and outs of his new role. He learned how to care for and operate his equipment and upon his first Deployment to Northern Iraq in 2016 he performed admirably in his role and made himself known to his superiors.

While not a special forces member Martin's skills and education have made him an easy pick to be sent on this operation. Not fully a member of the UN and wearing US uniform and equipment he does carry a UN blue and white armband to wear on his left bicep.

Personality: Martin is a very slow and deliberate person and is very straightforward with his words. He has a curiosity that often makes him try whatever he can to understand something and is a very calm and patient individual. He is adept at communicating with others and almost always wears a smile on his face believing it to be necessary to properly engage with new people.

If he is a military man, he should follow the commands of superiors. If he is there in a civilian purpose, he should not be there at all.

That was sarcasm. I understand how the UN works

The CIA is shady place. How a contractor like him ended up on bases is anyone's guess. But if anyone is going to pull strings it'd be the US or Russia.

The expedition itself is already very NATO/US oriented, so I wouldn't be surprised if the CIA managed to throw around some of its weight and get that guy through the Gate

While that would make sense, I think that one recon team will make for better storytelling and be easier for the OP. Bentus already has to juggle at least three sets of characters: the recon team, the on-base personnel, and the natives. Adding another storyline might slow things down way too much.

Biography: Both of Taline's parents died when she was young and she found herself having to grow up in a Russian orphanage, becoming one of those unfortunate children who never gets adopted for whatever reason. Her life is relatively uninteresting until, at the age of 16, she learns that there are few opportunities for her in life. She enlists in the Russian Armed Forces in 2003 at the age of 16, lying about her age. She stated a desire to serve in either the Spetsnaz or Airborne Forces and was initially laughed at by the officers in charge of recruiting, but after a few days of her continuing to try, they allowed her to join the Airborne Forces.

With the war in Chechnya having subsided to a low level insurgency, her first few years of service were uneventful and she considered leaving the Russian military, only to remember there were no opportunities for her outside of the military. However, in the summer of 2008 she would participate in the invasion of Georgia. In Georgia, she was always the first to volunteer for the most dangerous tasks. She had nothing to go home to, so she felt the preserving her life wasn't exactly the most important thing. And if she could die so that someone with an actual family could go home to them, she didn't exactly care. She was awarded for recovering a wounded comrade under sniper and machine gun fire, although she was wounded herself in the process. Her willingness to take on the most dangerous tasks earned her an opportunity to transfer to the 45th Guards Reconnaissance Regiment, the elite Spetsnaz unit of the Russian Airborne Forces.

This became yet another uneventful post for a few years. The FSB occasionally came around looking for recruits for Spetsgruppa Alfa, the most elite special forces unit in all of Russia. Taline volunteered every time, but was almost always ignored by the FSB officers. Until eventually, in 2013, the FSB officers came looking specifically for her. Russia was gearing up for some major covert operations in the near future, and they needed someone who was willing to take on extremely dangerous assignments. After becoming a member of Spetsgruppa Alfa, her service records become highly classified, with only a few details known.

In the summer of 2014, she was involved in the Ukraine conflict, helping the Donbass resistance organize their campaign against the Ukrainian military. Again, always volunteered for the most dangerous assignments and seemed to have a complete disregard for personal safety. After assisting in getting the initial uprising, she was put in charge of a unit made up of both rebels and Russian soldiers tasked with hunting down and eliminating Ukrainian snipers and special forces.

After Ukraine, she ended up briefly in Syria, protecting Russian journalists and diplomatic personnel, as well as assisting Syrian government forces. Again, noted to volunteer for the most dangerous assignments. After rotating back to Russia, she volunteered for Syria operations whenever they came up. She ended up participating in the first liberation of Palmyra, and the final offensive to push the rebels out of Aleppo.

After returning from the battle of Aleppo, Taline was considering finally leaving the military and maybe becoming a private military contractor. But the Russian government had a different idea for her. With the opening of the gate in Stockholm, Russia found themselves interested in trying to harness what lay behind the gate, as well as investigate reports of Russian citizens who had gone missing beyond the gate. Because of her willingness to take on the most dangerous assignments, she was selected to lead one of the Russian special operations teams that would piggyback off of the UN operation.

Biography:The most recent of a long proud heritage of United Nations Peacekeepers, Eric was ever much the idealist and grew up travelling the furthest reaches of the world with his parents. Following in their footsteps, Conrad excelled at sociocultural anthropology and became the youngest recruit in his Peacekeeper detachment. He got a taste for combat during at the front lines of South Africa, successfully beating back . During this time he and the UN Provisional Command didn’t see eye to eye. After a certain incident involving a young girl, a grenade, and a massive amount of paperwork, Conrad was transferred over to the Manchurian Front.

Personality: While on the surface, he seems rather cynical and dismissive of both the authorities and societies of the UN and the other realm, and especially towards Boudewijn Davids and other UN higher-ups after a...particular incident. However, he is shown to be sociable and compassionate, and hasn’t gotten his degree by being an ass towards everyone. Just by being an ass towards those who don’t do what’s best for their people, regardless if they’re blue berets or a local warlord.

I'm just going to point out, that the first thing tat would happen to the prince walking towards the UN base, is that at about five kilometers or so out, he'd start receiving a signal in the form of a flashing light. That light would be UN Peacekeepers using high power beams in the middle of the day to try and get him to stop. He'd be detained at that distance until the FOB could scramble a group of grunts and reps to move out towards the man. Approach wouldn't be easy either.

The next most major point to make note of is the presence of weapons. Any attempts to move closer would probably be greeted with the use of wide-flung ranging shots, smoke, or even potentially CS Gas. Fortunately, your character doesn't appear to have too many people with him, nor does he appear to be hostile, but he's not just going to be taken into the FOB to meet a Rep or Colonel. He'd still very much be treated as a definite security threat, and depending on what the UN forces have been debriefed on from the natives living within their walls... they could literally be expecting anything.

The next place he'd likely go, is into the back of a truck. He'd talk to a translator in the progress and likely be allowed to keep his guards. The truck would be open-topped, so his actions and the actions of his peers could be observed both near and far and in the event of a security threat manifesting... he'd be dealt with and suppressed immediately, most likely through lethal force. As soon as he was within the walls of the FOB, he'd become very much aware of the fact that it's not just a tent city and that many semi-permanent housing structures have been built. He'd likely see radio antennae of all sorts tied with a basic radar system for tracking any airborne threats... not that he'd know what any of it was.. he'd just see it.

Also, a UN FOB wouldn't just appear to be tents. It would have dozens of walls made of Hesco barriers. Cheap concrete barriers intended to stop the elements, mortars, and god knows what else from injuring what they protect. These can stack sometimes to over thirty feet, maybe even higher, and they definitely get stacked to at least a meter thick. The main roads would likely already be paved with asphalt while auxiliaries would have a sort of metal chain-link in place. Other more lightly trodden roadways would be host to the hundreds if not thousands of civilians and Peacekeepers and military Liaisons present. The FOB on Alnus Hill, being what it is would be significantly larger than what we saw in the original Manga or the Animated Adaptation, due to its multinational roots.

The presence of guns everywhere would be a thing, but professional soldiers on deployment are trained to keep their weapons on them at all times. They never leave their weapons and a missing weapon would lock down a FOB until it's accounted for. Attempts to steal such a weapon from a soldier would likely result in being immediately suppressed, with or without lethal force would likely be up to the situation itself.

Biography: Born in Pollok on the south side of Glasgow, Grace was the youngest of four children and quickly developed an independent personality and a desire to leave the gang-culture and violence that permeated the lower income neighbourhoods she grew up in, though a lack of money for school prevented her from pursuing higher education elsewhere. Moving to London, she became involved with drugs and for three months lived on welfare, during which her attempt at studying nursing at a local college fell flat.

The Army presented a way out of a dead end life, and the day after one of her flatmates had been involved in a knifing incident in 2007 she showed up at her local recruiter's office. The paranoia and anti-social tendencies she had acquired through drug use soon gave way to her old confidence, ambition, and inquisitiveness as the army helped her thrive mentally and physically, completing the 14-week basic training course in Winchester before quickly achieving her Combat Medical Technician specialization at the Defence College of Healthcare and Education Training. She would later complete Battlefield Advanced Trauma Life Support training at the Defence Medical Services Training Centre in Aldershot prior to going to the Middle East.

Her deployment to Afghanistan in 2008 saw her conducting frequent patrols out of Lashkar Gah with the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, 5th Battalion of the Royal Regiment of Scotland. Multiple tours through Helmand Province with the Jocks of 5 SCOTS, including a grueling seven-week siege in Nad-e Ali, saw Grace and the rest of her medical team excel at their responsibilities and earn the respect of their superiors. More than sixty-six causality evacuations and four killed in action only hardened her resolve to take care of the men and women in her units.

After the appearance of the Gate, Grace has been busy in the Forward Operating Base's trauma center, dealing with the influx of Imperial wounded and helping organize a crash course on treating wounds inflicted by medieval weaponry.
