Diane knew from a young age that she wanted to be a teacher. She moved out of her parent's house to UNC to study to become a teacher. She made many friends at UNC, one being her future husband Alex. She finished UNC and stayed in Chapel Hill getting a teaching position at a local High School. She taught at the High School for a few years until she was offered a job in the Department of Education. With that job, she moved to Bethesda. Over the years she moved up the ranks of the Dept. of Education finally reaching Director of Office of Elementary and Secondary Education. While in office she made major reforms to raise educational standards nationally, and also slim down the Office's expenditures by a decent margin of 5%. During this time she got married to her partner Alex. She then got offered the job of Superintendent of the Maryland State Department of Education in 2006. She made reforms to the Maryland Education system by investing more into public schools and reducing the School Vouchers. Maryland's education system was one of the best in the nation. Diane decided she would enter the Maryland Governorship race in 2014 as the incumbent was resigning. She entered the primaries against a State Senator. It was a hard a battle for the Nomination but she ultimately won it. The race was rough. It definitely took it's toll on Diane but she prevailed and won the Governorship with a slim majority of 7%. Since taking the office of Governor, she has increased spending the of Education in Maryland and decreased spending of the National Guard.
