His father was educated, and landed an office job in Washington, commuting the hour trip on train. James Rhodes performed well in school, but was never sure of what he wanted to be. He decided law as a compromise with his parents. He attended the University of Maryland School of Law after gaining a degree in History, for his own interest. After many rejections is Washington D.C., Philadelphia, and New York, he became a public defender in Baltimore. He was known for his fiery attitude and defending his clients, usually the poor, at all costs. He had a high case victory rate, and became known as a defender of downtrodden for some. Near to becoming District Attorney, he was plucked to be U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland. He became nationally known in 1989 for prosecuting Billionaire real estate developer Micheal Barton on securities fraud and insider trading. Riding his new fame, he ran for the 5th Maryland District, winning in a landslide. He has a great congressional record, writing many bills helping the poor and minorities. He met his wife, Julie Friedman, 20 years her senior, in 1995, and daughter of another Billionaire real estate developer. His brother is a controversial wall-street executive at Goldman Sachs.

Other Info: Has two children. One, his daughter Adriana Rhodes, is a Broadway actress. The other, his son Mark Rhodes, is an Executive VP at an Holdings Company.
