I don't have the time or effort to learn another language right now. And if I did it wouldn't be Chinese or Japanese TBH.

I tried to learn both German and Russian, but I gave up on the latter and put the former on hold.
I tried to learn some German in school (it was either that or French or Spanish), but I just gave up because TBH I don't think Middle School and High School are really effective places to learn a language.
But hey, at least I can look at a sentence in German and, like, vaguely grasp some of the basic words and concepts.

In fact, school is sometimes the worst place to pick up a language. As someone who had to take Mandarin Chinese in Singapore thanks to my Chinese blood (the Singaporean government is quite big on the whole "learn your mother tongue" thing), I can safely say that, at least here, the lessons seem more like the results of a "How to Kill Interest" championship. The only reason I am even fluent in the first place is because, like Japanese, I use Chinese on a regular basis at home and outside school in general.
(On a side note, I like to impress people by reading out long, invented German words like "Nationalistischesdeutschesschwerionenforschungsgesellschaftsdirektor".)
