Finished the detail work and such for Kongou, and made a few modifications to the decks. Now, I have a good idea of how many conventional rounds Kongou will carry, as well.

And yes, this means there is no actual medical bay or cafeteria anymore.

The absence of those two facilities is very disconcerning. How will the crew live without any of those two? Are they gonna use Project X 3-D printers and Aegis nanofactories to deal with food? What about medical care?

It still has food processors, just no cafeteria. You'd just take you food to the bridge, or to your room, and eat it there.

Medical care is covered via other ways, including a store of full restores taken from Gold's Verse, which is kept as part of the medical equipment just behind the main bridge.

You see some nations still have battleships and battlecruisers in active duty even though it's obvious that modern warfare pretty much say those ships have no place anymore.

I will say this, while Kongou would fit in well within Marie's world in Nemesis she would be consider a relic since they have jet fighters with some being seventh generation (though to be fair they are still small in numbers since they are new and experimental), rocket and missile tech with some being hypersonic and the fact that air carriers have replaced battleships... for the most part. You see some nations still have battleships and battlecruisers in active duty even though it's obvious that modern warfare pretty much say those ships have no place anymore.

Actually, if you were to put modern AA systems and anti-missile systems on a battleship (like are on current modern ships), it would survive just as well as any modern ship.

In ship to ship combat, it would likely fare better, as most modern ships have absolutely no armor. The only issue would be with accuracy, though if one were to build a modern battleship, there are all kinds of improved computer systems and stabilization systems one could implement that would drastically improve the accuracy over WWII-era dreadnoughts.

However, as you'd rely on electronics to counter enemy missiles, the armor would seem pointless, until you remember that most modern naval confrontations are soft-aggression; Light arms fire, flying planes close to the ships, or ramming, which the armor would lend very well for the battleship.

The real reason battleships were fazed out for carriers, is that a carrier can be out of enemy range and use a number of smaller targets (planes) rather than one big target (itself) in order to project power. As far as ship to ship combat, destroyers are preferable as you'd be using electronics anyway for most of the combat, so it would cost less and need far less crew. However, the battleship would still excel at several specialist roles, notably shore bombardment (as the shells would be passably accurate, and far cheaper than the million+ dollar missiles used by modern ships). If one found itself in a close encounter with a modern ship, I definitely wouldn't write the battleship off in such a situation.

As far as range goes, traditional shells would be at a disadvantage. However, there are some designs that exist for scramjet rounds that would be fired from a naval gun (such as one on a battleship), that would allow it to drastically increase its range.

The biggest issues are crew size (which is usually in the thousands) and cost (which is high) for maintaining and operating battleships. Most nations have decided that for their money, they'd rather have more destroyers than fewer battleships. That's not to say, however, that a battleship would not be able to work in a modern setting, if given modern equipment.

And seeing as Kongou has tech that would allow her to practically solo the entire US Navy no sweat, I don't think she'd have too much of a problem operating in Marie's world.

If anything I think Kongou can curbstomp even the mightiest navies in Marie's world (which I'm still looking for a good name for) since that world is mostly steampunk tech being powered by magical resources. Not underselling the tech in that world since it blurs the line of technology and magic but I'm not too confident on the dreadnoughts in that world since they for the most part work like the ones used in World War One. Nemesis though would be the interesting one. I never said that battleships were fully phased out and with your information it would see that it would be logical for some navies to still use them if they can afford to make them since in the real world there is a good reason why not every navy has air carriers. Plus in Nemesis it would fit since the tech in that world can range from 20th century all the way through near future until some crazy magic tech completely does something that would set it away from the three tech time periods.

For example, in Nemesis analog tech wasn't completely phased out when digital came, if anything the two techs coexist in the world and work together. Hell in that planet you can still find working classical wire phones along with cellphones and touch screen smartphones, with television you have CRT screens still being sold alongside LED and Plasma screen tvs. But when it comes to internet there is no dial up, that died the moment broadband entered the picture and if it is still around it is in rural areas that have no access to broadband.

Both those worlds are similar that some sort of powerful magical resource is the source of their tech, Marie's world has Vim which takes on the five classical elements and five states of matter while Nemesis has power crystals in the form of the dark crystals. Yet that is all they are similar in because the tech in those worlds are very different.

But with Nemesis. I say Kongou would destroy most ship and would probably have trouble with ships that employ some crazy futuristic or magical tech but if she plays her cards right she could win.
