National History:The history of Myanmar begins with the rule of Mying Nyo, a brutal ruler who did not spare his enemies. Mying Nyo focused entirely on the conquest of neighboring lands. He did not care for improving the quality of life for his people, rather, he cared for bringing fear into the hearts of others.
Under his command, 20,000 men, armed with swords and bows, marched into the mountainous lands of Assam and Nagaland. Very little resistance was met as the troops raided each village and town. Both Nagaland and Assam were conquered, and it had taken over 30 years.
However, civil unrest followed shortly after his campaign. Hundreds of natives, took up arms with rocks, sticks, and anything they could find, to repel the Myanmar army out of their land. In the capital, Pegu, citizens had also taken arms. This uprising officially marked the end of Mying Nyo's rule. He fled to the northern land of Kachin, where he later died of an unknown disease.
The general had left a son by the name of Sanay. Sanay began his rule fairly young, at the age of 20. Unlike previous kings, he had made it his goal to win the approval of his people. First, he ordered the construction of a network of roads, that were intended to increase trade with neighboring kingdoms.
This had worked as Sanay planned. More nations wanted Myanmar's abundant resources. Over the next few years Sanay's Myanmar grew rich. And, for his next step in winning the approval of his population, he set out to travel across the world. He left by sea, and travelled to several European nations. He gathered new techniques and initiated diplomatic ties with Europe. After his long voyage, that lasted a long 6 years, he returned, and his people rejoiced at his arrival.
With his newfound knowledge, he introduced new agricultural methods to the farmers of the Irrawaddy region. A surplus of crops were reported in the following months. Sanay had grown more popular than ever. The military was reorganized, and new leaders were assigned to the borders of Pagan. Finally, Assam and Nagaland were given autonomy. These series of events have been considered by citizens of the time as the "golden age of Myanmar".
Towards the later years of Sanay, his once productive kingdom, began to decline. A disease had struck the southern region of Pagan. It began to infect thousands. Crops began to produce less than before, and Assam and Nagaland demanded full independence. As the years passed, Sanay had become more cruel than he once was. He had executed half of his advisors, and threatened the invasion of neighboring Arakan. He began to ignore the welfare of his once pleased people.
What followed was yet another armed uprising. Peasants, who had once enjoyed quality living conditions, took up arms and ambushed his soldiers. Citizens refused to work, and Sanay's own soldiers attempted to murder him. A notable peasant who led the revolution was Minye. He organized rebels into divisions and led them to victory.
In the turning point of the civil war, Minye began the Chauk campaign. This campaign saw the march of 1,400 peasants from Chauk to Pegu Palace. The campaign took several months. As he marched, an increasing number of unhappy citizens began to follow Minye, in the hopes of overthrowing Sanay.
5 months later, the hostile mobs stormed the palace through the windows and doors. Thousands poured in and clashed with Sanay's loyalists. The raid left over 3,000 dead, however, Minye had succeeded in overthrowing the oppressive king. In the following days, he began work on establishing a secure and new government.
The relations between Myanmar and the world had gone hostile. The kingdom had become increasingly isolated from the rest of the region and the golden age had ended. King Minye currently rules with an iron fist over Myanmar. He has inherited a war-weary population, a damaged agricultural system, and a low-morale army. Minye believes in order to restore the happiness of his people and to honor the divine gods of Myanmar's religion, he must conquer Southeast Asia, and the Indian subcontinent.
