A "The Last Of Us" RP (Discussion-Interest Thread)

Postby The Templar » Tue Mar 21, 2017 5:40 am

Hello there, I am new to this site and this is my "debut" thread/RP. Although I'm new to this particular site, I've been text based role playing for 7 years now, and consider myself quite experienced and seasoned, in a non-arrogant way that is.Even if you don't join or even post here, thanks for stopping and having a look. :)

This Is War...

So, as you see, I'm planning to construct a "The Last Of Us" RP, based of course off of the awesome 2013 Playstation 3 game.

If planning goes as intended and I manage bring enough people aboard that wish to partake, the RP will be launched at the earliest later this week and at the latest this weekend sometime.

For this to be so, the following criteria must be met;
-The basic skeleton, if not at least the primary body of the RP, must be discussed, decided on, and set.
-I desire that at least 3-5 people climb aboard this hype train. I know many will choose to wait for the official OOC OP, however I still would like some "up-votes" and tags even if no one decides to contribute to this brainstorming thread.
-We make good head way with planning and aren't still stuck on "Issue 1" after 3 days.

So then, now with the intro aside, here below are the topics for discussion and debate and whatnot.

____________________________________________________________________________________

The focus of the RP plot line;
So, as we know, The Last Of Us is basically in the grand scheme a zombie survival universe. Even if it isn't like your stereotypical Romero Zombie games and films.

So, should the plot line of this RP be focused primarily on simply surviving and preserving what is left of humanity and civilization as is stereotyped in zombie media, or should it have a primary string of story lines and plots which survival is incorporated into?

When should it be set?
The game itself started off in 2013, during the outbreak when all hell and chaos were ensuing, then, after a brief "intro chapter", leapt ahead to 2033, twenty years after the outbreak, and thus began the main story.

So, should this RP hoist a "Walking Dead" theme and start off during the outbreak and carry on day by day, month by month afterward with no time skipping, or should it just do as the game did and begin during the outbreak as an "intro", then skip ahead?
Or, should it just not even include the outbreak and begin in 2031?(This is the date I have chosen.)

Infected or Survivalists?
For those of you who have played TLOU, you'll remember that the Infected, or zombies, are not the only threat. For you must also face hostile survivor groups such as bandits, cannibals, and "Hunters".
To me when I played it seemed like there were more hostile survivor encounters and NPC's than Infected.
It felt like for every one Infected I faced I would later face 10 survivors to that one infected. I'm not complaining on this, I'm just stating what seems as facts to me.

So, should the threat factor be more based around the Infected, or hostile survivor groups?
Or should we just "play it by ear and circumstance"?
Meaning that if we are predominantly hassled by bandits then fine, if we are constantly faced with Clickers and Runners, so be it. You get my drift.

Should the Fireflies be heavily incorporated into this RP, if at all?
The "Fireflies", the revolutionary group that is fighting to save mankind by maddingly searching for a cure for the Cordyceps Strain, all while liberating areas that are under the authoritarian control of the military or rogue survivor groups, as well as clearing out pockets of Infected wherever they may cross them.
The Fireflies were a primary factor of the plot line in TLOU, however, they don't "have" to be here.
So, should the Fireflies be heavily incorporated, moderately incorporated , or only mentioned and that's all in this RP?

What should the initial setting be?
For the primary storyline, depending of course on the time skipping decision as well as if we choose "storyline" over "survival", then I have 4 different initial settings for a beginning plot line;

#1. A military controlled quarantine zone within a city or a base or camp.
#2. A survivor controlled safe zone lead by selected leaders from within the group.
#3. A group of nomads who journey cross-country on foot, only staying in certain areas for brief time spans.
#4. A Firefly controlled safe zone.

(This will become a "poll" if we don't reach a hands down decision.)

What Region of the United States should this RP first start out in? (It will expand outward and onward as we go, no worries)
I've picked out several areas and-or cities where we could start out at, I am up for suggestions though! :D

-St. Louis, Missouri
-Seattle, Washington
-The Rocky Mountains area.
-Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
-Chicago, Illinois
-Langley, Virginia

Again, I'm also up for suggestions!

Alright then, that's everything for now.
If any other topics for debate fly to my mind, which they probably will, I'll immediately update the OP.
I'm hope this gets plenty of involvement and feedback and we get plenty accomplished here, as I am eager to get the OOC up!

Looks like this could become a great RP. Tried to join one a while back, but it died out pretty fast. So, I'll just throw in my two cents and you can decide how much it's worth.

I really like those games that put unlikely allies, that may even usually be enemies, together because of a common goal. So, I guess I'm for a larger plot than just survival. It doesn't have to be what I suggested, I think a larger plot would be a better idea.
I would either say the time skip from the initial outbreak to 2031 or just start in 2031. I feel like this would give the best plot possibilities.
I think we should just play it as it goes. I don't really care if people or zombies are the main enemy, or if it is half and half. Just don't down play the other too much.
On the Fireflys, I don't care. It really depends on the plot, I guess.
The location (as in if it is a military base or whatever), I think anyway, might depend on the plot and I don't feel strongly about anything one way or the other as of now.
The starting cities or whatever also might depend on the plot, but overall I think either idea of a QZ in a city or more of an out of the area would be good.

There's what I think, hope it helps. I really hope this can get off the ground!
