Hogwarts Year One: The Party Thread

Postby Britanania » Sat Mar 04, 2017 5:23 pm

Caitie

The next year seemed to breeze passed Caitie Glacies. Next to the frantic first year, Caitie's second year at Hogwarts was a relatively quiet one. Still, throughout the summer leading into her 2nd year and the year itself, Caitie continued her to experiment with her more "unique" personality whilst she still maintained a facade of normalcy. She was a model student, and a quiet junior partner in Henry's group. It was the quiet existence she wanted, after all.

It was now a week before her 3rd would begin, and the castle was being prepared for just the type of party Malvolio wanted. The large Castle Glacies was the perfect example of Gothic architecture, and with not only the entire Ministry of Magic but their families, and the staff and students of Hogwarts, the entire building and grounds were prepared by the team of House Elves to make everything perfect.

Caitie, however, was busy with other matters. With just an hour before guests were to arrive Caitie was having her last bit of fun in the family lower dungeon, far from where any guests could possibly wander. Her current canvas was some muggle she found in the streets of London. He made a pass at her, and that was all the justification she needed.

"Lacero!" she chantedwith a slashing motion for the fifth or sixth time--she had lost count. The muggle's gagged screams were simply music to her ears, as his naked back cut open.

The man was suspended from chains on the ceiling, so he dangled like a pendulum. Underneath his feet was a tank of water. With a gesture, Caitie indicated to Womky to dump him into the water again for a few minutes before rising him back up. Caitie checked her watch and sighed.

"Looks like our time is up. Womky, do you mind cleaning up over here? I want him ready for tomorrow," she said as made her way to the door, her thoughts shifting to the party.

This should be a good night

Whoop whoop NEW THREAD!

(Only Derek will be showing up for the party)

Derek Forester

He found himself staring up at a huge mansion, one not unlike his own ancestral house.
...So this is the Glacies'es Castle...hmm...It looked bigger in the moving pictures.
He had changed a lot after his first year. Lauren had indeed come to visit him over that summer, and the two of them had become even closer after that. Nothing too eventful had happened during the second year, but, as soon as he had gotten off the train at King's Cross, his da had told him that when he went back for his third year, Derek could transform into a Dire Wolf on school grounds again.
In fact...I do wonder if I can transform here...
It seemed like some people had already arrived for the "party" and Derek wanted to check up on them, see what had happened over the summer.
So, the Animagus made sure he was presentable, checked to see if his wand was in his jacket pocket - it was - and began to made his way towards the small group near the front gates...

Rachel Ackerley

Rachel flew in on her broom and safely touched down right next to Derek all of a sudden. The second year was definitely less eventful than the first when it came to danger, fortunately. However, the beginning of her quidditch career came about with frighteningly amazing results. She was a prodigy among her teammates as a beater, and was an incredibly valuable player even as a second year player.

She got off and removed a pair of goggles from her eyes. "Evening!" she said happily. She had managed to fly there without messing up the semi-formal dress she was wearing with a jacket over it. She let her hair down and took out her wand. With a flick of her wand at her broom she muttered, "Diminuendo," causing her broom to shrink to a small size and fit neatly in her bag.

"This place is bloody huge..." she said as she looked over the entrance of the castle.

William Darkenstone

William's second year had been much less eventful than the first. Nothing out of the ordinary had happened-for Hogwarts' standards, at least. He continued to practice and gain as much knowledge as he could, making more frequent trips to the library and its Forbidden Section. He deeply desired to travel the world one day and find out more about the Dark Arts, the things the books didn't talk about. He had learned quite a few new spells, seeking to master them through rigorous training. He was a good student and passed with high marks the school subjects, particularly History of Magic and Defense Against the Dark Arts, his favorites. The professors seemed either more cautious around him or not really caring for him, due to his quiet character and lonely and melancholic attitude, with a few exceptions. He often sat alone or with a couple of others. He had some friends, or at least he considered them that way, and he was experiencing certain feelings for others. He was covering all these, however, behind a facade and sought to repress them. After all that time, though, still he hadn't found what a Horcrux was. He hadn't yet asked Gleen, who he had grown to like, but the very few he had, responded either with sheer ignorance or a dismissive attitude. He had plans for the third year, however. Become more accustomed to Magic and the Dark Arts. Find what a Horcrux is. And, although this was only expressed subconsciously, tear a bit of that facade down, as he had done some time ago, in that forest with Ava...

Now, he stood outside Castle Glacies, the site of a party, a week before the third year at Hogwarts began. Its hosts included Caitie Glacies, a girl he had spoken to before, in separate occasions, although not for long amounts of time. She seemed distant and quiet, somewhat like him. William felt something off about her but couldn't pinpoint it exactly. Like she had a facade of her own, but hers was, perhaps, different. All that was speculation, however, and William attributed it to not knowing substantially or his own character.
The Castle was grand, unlike what William had seen before except for ancient, abandoned ones. He stood in awe at the place, thinking how people could live in such a large architectural construct. I can't even imagine their wealth and status. Purebloods all the way through. I wonder, how do they feel about Half-Bloods? Probably I don't want to know.

He stepped inside the building, witnessing numerous interesting works of art as well as the overall design. He stood observing paintings and statues of a bygone era. Truly wonderful. I would die to find out what they have in the dark corners of this castle. Some students had arrived already. William continued observing at the interior, never having seen anything of the like. And probably never again.

Adam Tarkin

Adam's second year went by in the blink of an eye. He was mildly bored last year due to the lack of adventure. But he was glad his friends were not in harm's way or well to an extent, Rachel did almost know Adam off his broom last year in a Quidditch game when he was attempting to catch the snitch. But the her and Andrew became very good friends with Adam. He felt like their bond grew with every day in the school year and it seemed to always grow stronger never really losing any connection. But Hufflepuff quidditch team was very helpful and they welcomed Adam as an equal like they welcomed Andrew as the keeper. But they had fun in quidditch it was definitely interesting to play against Rachel, but it had to be done. He had decided to take his broom to get to the party.

Once he arrived, he landed at the gate to the castle and saw two people there already. He landed a bit back from them and shrunk his broom. He adjusted his coat and walked towards the gate. He then saw who it was Derek and Rachel. He walked over to them and took in the sight. "Wow I wonder how many house elves they got to keep this pace going. I mean it has to be a lot look at the place." Informed Adam as he looked at the gate then turned to Rachel, "So how was your-" he was caught off guard by Rachel's beauty. He smacked himself quickly and then continued, "So how was your summer?" Asked Adam as he got the words and and quickly took notice of the surroundings hoping what had happened wasn't that obvious.

Rachel gladly shook Derek's hand, and shrugged in response to his question. "Pretty good, if I say so myself. Mostly practiced my flying some more. Ready to kill it another season?"

She noticed Adam come up too, giving him a friendly wave. She arched an eyebrow for just a second when he randomly smacked himself. Weird.

She led the way inside, still looking at everything as she spoke. "My summer went fairly well. Got better at flying. I also managed to figure out how to develop minor spells, and even made one of my own! Got advice from the Transfiguration classes and books on it."

Andrew

"I don't mean to be ungrateful, dad - " Andrew had begun, as he sat in the passenger seat of his fathers Ford Explorer as they drove down the motorway to the party "but why couldn't mum just apparate me over? With side-along aparation?"

Sighing, his father shook his head "Your mother's going through a bit of a hard time, since the shop closed - "

Andrew cut him off "Is that why she's been drinking so much fire whiskey lately?" he asked, looking warily at his father.

"Yeah - er - no, well, it's complicated, son. Just, she can't take you." Andrew sat in his seat in silence from then on, mildly frustrated. Why couldn't he just tell him what was going on? Nonetheless, something was going on. He didn't quite like it.

"So," his father inquired, trying to change topic "Who's this friend you've got? The one who's running the party - at a castle, was it?"

"Mhm. Well, I don't really know her - I've only really talked to her a couple of times - most of those times in my first year, where a bunch of stuff happened. Not so much happened last year, though, surprisingly. She seems nice, if not a bit gloomy sometimes. She's invited my whole year, I think. " he replied, smiling slightly.

They carried on the small talk until finally, they arrived nearby. The engine of the SUV most likely would be heard by anybody outside of the castle, as it was only just down the road, but it didn't go right up to the castle "They've probably got muggle protection charms up there, so I don't think you can carry on, dad. But I'll be down here afterwards, OK?" Andrew reassured him, to which he nodded. Getting out of the car, he caught a glimpse of a fairly gloomy look as he pulled away, driving back down towards the motorway.

Walking towards the front doors of the veritable palace with his hands in his suit pockets, he noticed Adam, Rachel and Derek standing outside "Hey, all. You guys OK?" he asked, smiling at their presence.

Adam listened as Rachel talked about her summer, "That's awesome! Glad to see your spells are starting to work. I did some flying but I also went to some seeker camps over the summer. Learned quite a bit from the people running the camps, I'm ready for this season for sure. Your not knocking me off my broom this year." I formed Adam as he smirked a bit and then heard Andrew from behind them. "Hey Andrew! Where have you been? I'm okay I don't really like the vibe I'm getting from this place." Chuckled Adam as he turned around to wave at Andrew.

Henry walked into the Glacies castle, having flown there on his Firebolt supreme. He had grown out his dark brown hair so that it now reached a ragged mop down to his shoulders. His eyes no longer twinkled with the prankster nature they had in his younger days, replaced with those stormcloud like eyes. He had been changed by his second year.

They had been walking. Henry was going to buy new quidditch pads. It was a bit off Diagon Alley, deeper in the "Maze", The series of Wizard streets built into London. Henry's brother Vulpin walked with him. Vulpin was a shorter man, with short cropped black hair and blue eyes more like his mother's than the typical Grey eyes of his father's family. A rising Unspeakable in the department of mysteries, Vulpin was proud of his position. Suddenly, two men blocked the way in front of them. Two more walked out of an alley behind them. Before Vulpin could say a word, the curses hit them.

They had called him names... Wetblood... Leaky Veins... Scum. They sat him down and tied him to a chair opposite his brother, and made him watch as they tortured him.
They made Henry watch as they magically pulled Vulpin's ribs from his chest, only to force Skelegrow down his throat and repeat the process again. They dumped the two of them in an icey tank and shut them in there, no light or warmth, until Henry could no longer move and the Ice began to feel warm. Then they pulled him out and began to suffocate and respirate him, over and over, while they cut his arms and healed them. They made him drink poitions that felt like fire in his throat, the like there was a hive of bees in it. They blinded him and repaired his eyes. Finally, they cut his back and scarred it, a long slice from his shoulder to his spine, while cutting and scarring his brothers eye, before throwing the two back onto the street, telling them that they were no longer in charge.

Henry had come back from the crime with a renwed hatred and vigour. He trained harder than anyone at quidditch, and while already considered gifted by most, truely became a prodigy at the sport. And for a while he was content to take his rage out throwing Quaffles at Keepers. But it continued to brew. He set adders and summoned cobras after muggleborns. His pranks became dangerous, often injuring their victims. Finally he decided to leave the pranks be. He would become more than just some prankster. He would become a true master, and put mudbloods and muggles in their place, licking his boots for forgiveness.

For the final monthes of second year, Henry struggled with ways he could bring about his goals. But after his exams, which he recieved good marks on, were over, he found the answer he was looking for. Not in Hogwarts, but within his Mother's Library of heirloom books. There he found a tome by Herpo the Foul, which detailed the hatching process for a basilisk. Finally, a way he could reach power. When his parents next took him to Diagon Alley, he entered the Magical Creatures shop and purchased a large purple toad, called a Paperwaight. It sat still for monthes on end and only needed to be fed once a year, when it's skin color turned red. All Henry needed to do was to find a private spot in school to hatch his basilisk once he stole a chicken's egg from the school coop.

Henry entered the Glacie's Castle and immdiaetly found Caitie. Brushing his long dark hair back, he said to her "So how was your summer Angel Hair? Mine was rather boring. Research filled and Muggleborns everywhere. I had to spend it in Spain with my parents. The Spanish Wizard Republic is so tolerant it makes me sick."

Caitie

She had just gotten into the great hall of the castle as her guests arrived. With as polite of a smile that Caitie could give she greeted each of her classmates.

"Glad you could all make it," she said with a chuckle. "I hope you hav a great time." When Henry entered Caitie brushed he hair out of her face. She was taller than him now.

"Sounds like a total drag. At least you're back for this." She replied.

William Darkenstone

William continued gazing at the numerous works of art in the Castle. Grand statues and portraits of patriarchs from an earlier time, continuing into the present day with who, he believed, was Caitie's father. Malvolio Glacies seemed imposing in the painting, overlooking the rest of them in the room with an inherent smugness and arrogance, while his eyes stared into your soul and burned it. He moved along, as he realized more and more people were arriving. He saw Andrew, Derek, Rachel and Adam talking, and at another end of the hall, Caitie and Henry. Numerous students and professors alike walked the expensive and luxurious carpets, conversing regarding a wide array of subjects. William sighed, as he circled the room, noticing more and more rooms inside the Castle each time. Eventually, he made his way towards a large painting of what seemed to be the Castle, in full detail and shadowy colours. The painting was close to where Caitie and Henry were talking.

After admiring the attention to detail and the immersion the painting gave, he stood there, as he unconsciously touched the locket around his neck.
I have one more chance to find what a Horcrux is and what it can do before the start of the school year. As I head to the Diagon Alley, for the school stuff, perhaps I could pay a little visit once again to the more isolated and remote bookstores. Perhaps there I can find something more.

The only information I have managed to uncover regarding them is their terrifyingly dark nature and the fact that the first creator of such a Horcrux was Herpo the Foul, thousands of years ago. It seems to have been largely forgotten or any mention of it immediately silenced. It must have terrific abilities. I would be quite upset if I found out it was simply an exotic dishwasher.

He sighed once more, as he overlooked the people present, wondering what could the third year at Hogwarts be.

Ava

The burnside xl-18 was the best broom around. That wasn't just Ava's rather biased impression, it was a fact. It was fastest, more easily controlled and helped Ava score many points for the slytherin quiddich team. Their were also about 3 of them around, making it pretty expensive.
The 13-year old girl dropped like a stone from the sky, upside down as she hung ono to the handle of her broom with one hand only. This was, in fact, her trademark quiddich scoring position. A few feet from the ground she levelled out, dropped down onto her feet and retracted her broom, smiling at the assembled company.
Walking forward, she spotted her quarry looking at some rather impressive, grandiose paintings. Walking up to William silently, she rested a hand on his shoulder.
"Hi," she said, grinning.

Rachel

Rachel continued walking with Adam and Derek admiring the vast expanses of the castle. Even though she never trusted her, Rachel had to admit that Caitie had quite an amazing home. No doubt someone could get lost in these hallways should they sneak in. Andrew arrived after a moment of talking about her spells. Rachel waved to him with a smile before slipping her hands back into the pockets of her jacket.

"Doing great, Andy. Wait, you all like food, right? Check out the spell I figured out..." Rachel said as she swiped up an empty glass bowl that was sitting on one of the many banquet tables the house elves had set up. She drew her wand and, tapping the tip against the rim of the bowl, muttered an incantation under her breath. The small bowl began to fill from the bottom up with what looked exactly like chocolate pudding.

She looked up at them. "Isn't that bloody neat? Anyone want one?"

The small bowl began to fill from the bottom up with what looked exactly like chocolate pudding.

She looked up at them. "Isn't that bloody neat? Anyone want one?"

"I'll gladly take one, thanks. What spell was that?"
Derek suddenly got an idea.
A brilliant idea.
I could go into baking...there needs to be more world class Wizards and Witches baking...
"So...I had an idea to go into baking when I was older, what do you guys want to do?"

William Darkenstone

William was caught in his thoughts when he felt a familiar hand resting on his shoulder. He smiled as he turned around to see Ava, standing behind him.
"Hi. How's your summer been so far? Training for Quidditch?" he asked her, resting his hand on her shoulder in return. She was a good Quidditch player for the Slytherin team, flying one of the best brooms around. William had begun attending Quidditch matches because of her being there. Both he and she had grown up quite a bit in these few years.

He looked at the imposing walls of the castle that surrounded them, at the impressive paintings that filled the hall.
"This place is very impressive. I could never imagine people living in such a castle." After a short while, he turned to Ava again.
"Is your house like that as well?"

Adam Tarkin

Adam was looking at the room in awe, he was just surprised on how big and elegant the room looked. He snapped back to the group when Rachel washed if anyone wanted some pudding. "Yes please, I'll take a bowl." Added Adam as he now seemed to be able to look at Rachel without stuttering his next couple of words. He took a bowl of pudding and started to eat out if it. Then Derek asked a question on what they wanted to do after school. "Well I'm planning to try out on England's Quidditch team, hopefully by our sixth year I will be noticed if not having a chance to show my skills. But you want to cool hu, thanks cool, how about you guys Rachel and Andrew?" Asked Adam as she took a seat at a nearby table.

Andrew

Taking a seat next to Adam, Andrew nodded "I'm planning to become a doctor at St. Mungo's, same as before. I've learnt a good few medical spells already, and potions too. I'm getting better at potions." he told them, looking around at the lavish room. They had certainly gone all out for the party, that was for sure. Andrew was impressed.

It was far better than his home, which was in-fact a magically enlarged Manchester flat. It was a bit of a hassle if they had muggle guests around, since they had to get rid of everything magical - with no help from his mother, of course. She'd grown increasingly distant since her shop had closed, and their funds and grown increasingly slim with it. Andrew wondered if he'd be able to afford everything from Diagon alley that year.

"That, or a writer. I wouldn't mind writing books for a living."

Henry chuckled "Yeah, back in the good country, even if the politics have been slipping recently. I still can't believe Shacklebolt is still Minister, the great clod."

Looking around at some of the atendees as they passed, Henry asked "Did you have to invite the Lions and Badgers? The Eagles are sensible but the others... It sickens me. They love mudblood so much it wouldn't suprise me to see them injecting themselves with dirt. But besides that... Do you remember what my project was at the end of last year? I believe I have found an answer to my problem within Mother's library. Do you have a private place to talk?"

Caitie

The white-blonde witch backed up against a pillar, leaning on the structure.

"It was my father's idea. He's making bids to be the next Minister, and with half the Ministry arriving tonight he has to make a show of inclusion to gain support from some of the moderates, even if his convictions are obvious." Caitie shrugged. "Politically savvy I suppose, but I hate politics anyway."

By now the House Elves were arriving in droves, carrying platters of food and flagons for the guests. Caitie glanced over to Rachel and her group.

"Maybe later," she said, turning her head sharply back at Henry. "we don't want to make anyone suspicious. Besides, I have a surprise I have to tell you later anyway" Caitie added with a wink as she slithered off the pillar to join the others.

Rachel

Following the request of the other two, Rachel would repeat the spell with two other empty bowls on the table before passing them over and sitting down herself.

Somewhere else in Britain

A small boy sat at the dinner table swinging his legs back and forth in his chair. He had just cleaned his plate and proudly looked up at his approving mother. Surely dessert was to follow.

"I can see you enjoyed it tonight! I hope there's room for dessert," his mother said as she took up the boy's plate and returned to the kitchen. To the boy's glee, she returned with a small bowl of chocolate pudding and laid it in front of him before returning to wash dishes. "Enjoy!"

The boy swept up his spoon and was about to dig in when all of a sudden, the bowl was empty. The pudding disappeared. Gone! He stared at the now-empty bowl, almost in shock, before looking into the kitchen.

"Mum?"

"You're looking into the English quidditch team too? Nice! I wonder if I'd have a chance at that too. I proved strong enough as a beater, even for a second year." Rachel replied to Adam as she took one of the many goblets and filled it with one of the few wines she recognized. She sighed in relief as she finally had something to drink. "Beats going home to Manchester. Had to spent most of the summer back at mum's where it was a pain to use anything magical."

Marcus

Marcus was already pleasantly tipsy, having found a bottle of fire whiskey amongst the alcohol and rather making it his own. He was carrying it around, forgoing aid from the house elves, and occasionally taking a pleasant small sip as if it was a fine vintage.
Finding the people he was after, Henry and Caitie, he stopped. He'd changed a lot in the last two years: the stick-thin boy had gone, and what stood now was one who had filled out his tall frame with muscles: he was on the way to looking like something he really didn't want to, some form of huge muscular bruiser.
"Hi," he smiled at Henry, having been at Caitie's all summer. Henry had changed as well...and Marcus really didn't want to think about that at all. "Quite the motley collection of people your Dad's invited." Seing that Caitie's goblet of wine was empty, he handed her the fire whiskey. "Drink something stronger," he ordered with an enthusiastic grin. "Anyway...any reason why he's invited the ministry's retarded squadron? Their's no chance they'll ever support him, so why does he bother?"

Ava

"Practising when I can," Ava smiled in acknowledgement of William's hand. "We've got quite a bit of moorland around where we are, so you can fly around without any of those nosy muggles spotting you." She groaned in absolute distaste. "Because apparently, we have to hide ourselves away from muggles so that we don't disturb them or frighten the poor little souls, I prefer my idea though. I think what we should do instead is go into one of their towns on a really busy festival day and start sending spells around. How does that sound to you?"

...Oh noooooooo....Really, that's hilarious, but that kid's always going to wonder where his pudding went...

Derek merely watched as Rachel began filling goblets with various alcoholic drinks.
Are we even old enough?
He recognized two, at least.
Fernwind Brew and Venison Draught
Derek found himself reaching out and picking up the goblet full of Fernwind Brew and then went off to stand on the balcony, looking over the countryside.
After a few minutes, he found himself tasting the wine, just a small bit of it.
Hmm...Interesting...
He decided that he liked the wine and drank the rest, then set the glass on the rail and lifted his gaze to the small farm in the distance.
That small farm belonged to his grandparents.
...Think I'll drop in and say hello...
But then Derek heard some sort of commotion behind and turned to go back inside, but knocked over the goblet in the process.

(God dang it she didn't pour a damn torrent of alcohol(yet) it was just one drink lol)
Rachel

Rachel stood by those seated the table with a goblet of Fennison Brew. It was one of the few wines she had actually tasted before, and one of the few she actually found to taste good. Derek had stepped out to the balcony for a minute, but Rachel remained inside with the others. She didn't really notice at first how fast she finished the first drink she had, practically quaffing it down. She looked to Andrew. "So you're considering medical work still? You definitely have some experience with it, given how many times I've gotten the bollocks knocked out of me for the past two years. Quidditch only added to the list-"

Just then, Derek had returned from the balcony. His entrance knocked over another goblet which loudly clattered to the floor.

"Oi, careful! Don't want to be rude making a mess around here, do we?" She said as she meanwhile filled her goblet again. She went back to admiring the lavish dining room. The house elves certainly did an impressive job. It was better than anything she could have put together herself, anyway.

It was a nice reunion. Many of Rachel's classmates had changed, herself included. No longer the small and almost scatterbrained girl she was in her first year, she now had the more proper appearance of the athletic quidditch player. Whereas her physical strength was hardly noticeable beforehand, her height and dedication to the sport displayed it now. The often frizzy auburn hair she had grew to a straight dark brown that extended well past her shoulders and elegantly styled for the occasion. She had become much more reserved and observant. It was clear that her relationships with her friends were growing as well. She never intentionally tried to be eye-catching, but judging by Adam's attitude around her during the past few months, she thought she may have an admirer. It wasn't uncommon for him to blush or stammer when they spoke together. The thought was pushed out of her head when Rachel helped herself to another goblet of the fine brew. It wasn't the first time she had it, but this time she was possibly getting tipsy. But she didn't care. After all, gatherings of this magnitude are a rare occurrence for her.
