The Role Play

The role play draws from the World of Darkness lore and setting. Centered in the city of Los Angeles and its surrounding areas. Los Angeles, the City of Angels by day, City of Darkness by night; is torn apart in a struggle for dominion by the Vampire Sects, Werewolf Tribes, Changeling Courts, and all manner of individuals. The only races not allowed are Angels, Demons, along with Antediluvians and Methuselah for Vampires. Basically your character must be less than a millennia old. Otherwise feel free to write up a character of your own imagination. Role Players will take control of an individual or individuals if they are so inclined, along with any support network or NPCs that they wish to have, in their bid to survive the dangerous world of Los Angeles underworld. So you may be a gangster, mafia don, entrepreneur, politician within Los Angeles, or what have you so long as you can fit into the general premise and narrative of the role play.

The role play itself will take place after the events known as Bloody New Years. The event, January 1st of 2017, was an action that led to the ongoing conflict over Los Angeles and the surrounding area between the two main Kindred communities of LA (Camarilla and Anarchs), but soon drew all the other supernatural communities into the fray. Changelings assaulted Werewolves in the suburbs. Vampires murdered vampires in the inner city. Human's, either aligned with a side, independent, or Hunters of the supernatural alike are caught in the whirlwind.

Rules

1. I reserve all rights as OP to give rulings and I will stand by them. No exceptions. Nor do I have to give lengthy reasons for doing so. This isn't a democracy.
2. Have fun.
3. Be respectful and if you must criticize then I request that you be polite and constructive.
4. Rules are subject to change.
5. Knowledge for the World of Darkness lore is not required, though a wiki and various Wikipedia entries are available through google, also a DM or TG to me the OP also works.
6. No double posting or advertising for other role plays please.
7. All OOC chatter is to be KEPT in the OOC. If you must leave a footnote for a reader in the IC then I highly recommend spoilering it and labeling it appropriately.

Los Angeles: 2017

Direct Link incase some parts of the map are hard to read.

Los Angeles is in turmoil; the city previously under the domain of the Camarilla, the largest organization of Vampires in the world, and possibly of supernatural creatures in the world; is reeling after the events of Bloody New Years. Leo D'Guiscard, Prince of Los Angeles, ruler of the city and head of the Camarilla in California was slain along with every elder in the city. But it was not just Kindred (Vampire) blood that flowed that day as numerous hits and assassinations occurred in retaliation. Order was lost as the Camarilla fought to hold on to whatever territories that hadn't slipped from its grasps. Gangs, clans, and mafia's fought each other in the streets and alleyways by night.

The Camarilla, the largest of the three Kindred Sects, holds the policy that in order for Vampires to survive they must hide from the rest of humanity. Creating a web of lies and misinformation that humanity now believes: Vampires are not real. This deceit better allows the Kindred to feed on humans and is what has allowed the Camarilla to infiltrate governments, societies, and hold public figures in their pockets. All the better to maintain the Masquerade and not risk exposing themselves to greater humanity. This belief is opposed by the Sabbat Sect.

The Camarilla from the top down is a hierarchical and ordered society. The Eldest class (Elders) is maintained as the ruling class over the younger vampires. This naturally puts the Anarchs, Anarchist Vampires who vehemently oppose what they deem to be an oppressive system, at odds with the Camarilla. Ultimately the cause of much of the struggle currently going on in Los Angeles as the Anarchs in one, seemingly impossible stroke by virtue of their previous disunity, managed to decapitate the heads of the Camarilla in California. The Anarchs have thence taken control of Downtown and Eastern districts of LA (Communities East of Beverly Hills).

While all of this is going on, the other factions: Changelings, Werewolves, and from Asia the Kuei-Jin watch and move in. The old order is dying, and to the South coming from San Diego the Sabbat is spreading from their new strongholds there...

The Current Situation

Currently the Kindred are divided into the Camarilla centering around Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, and the communities West of the 405. The Anarchs primarily control the Downtown area from Mid-City West to El Sareno to the East and from Sunland to the North down to South Los Angeles. The Sabbat has moved into Long Beach and Wilmington, seeking to spread along the southern locales there before moving North. The Changelings, Werewolves, and Humans (hunters, independent, or aligned to a side) are caught in the middle of these warring factions.

Code: Select all
Name:
Age; (actual/appearance)
Species, Clan, Class: (Kindred, human, werewolf, kuei-jin etc)
Appearance: (Preferably a picture, can have written description as well)
Personality: (Just a paragraph or so about how they usually conduct themselves)
Biography: (A few paragraphs, or more, major events and the like)
NPCs:.

Name: Anasztazia Angelos (has had various names over the centuries)
Age; Appears 25, but according to her she was born in the 11th Century, however it may be far earlier.
Species, Clan, and Class: Kindred, Tremere, Elder (rumored to be a Methuselah)
Appearance: Image
Standing at exactly six foot and lithe body frame.
Personality: Anasztazia or otherwise known as Anna for short, is typically quiet and reserved, but when she speaks it is typically sincere. Now, one must not mistake her as antisocial or prudish. When surrounded by others she knows or putting on an act to appear more normal she will freely engage in socialite activities with charm and flirtation abound. She does not actively pursue confrontation or conflict, seeing it as bad for one's health, but this is more borne from her experiences with the wars of the past. Indeed she is a capable warrior. However, utterly detesting of violence herself as a terrible last resort. As a result using humans to sustain herself seems to be a bit of a double standard.
Biography: Anna, according to her own accounts, was born in the Carpathian mountains at some point in the 11th Century. However, if one was to look deep enough at the scant evidence left of her early years is that she was embraced shortly after reaching maturity in Constantinople. Indeed, rumor has it that she became Anna Komnene of history, probably in her lust for power she replaced the previous Anna. Though this is heavily just conjecture and filled with faults and loopholes in the story.

The first concrete record of Anna's existence in the eyes of the Camarilla came in the 15th Century where she helped a French maiden by the name of Joan during the Hundred Years' War. However, in the end it was she who betrayed the same maiden leading to her burning at the stake. After these events and the dawn of the renaissance she returned to Constantinople briefly after it's capture by the Ottomans before taking up a series of residences in Venice, Genoa, Zurich, Budapest, Paris, and London. Hoping through Human history while maintaining her masquerade in various forms and persona's. Inevitably crossing the Atlantic and arriving in New York City in 1912, just before the World Wars would devastate Europe.

The dawn of the Cold War saw Anna primarily set up on the West Coast of the United States, primarily within Northern California but by the 2000's she maintained a residence in the LA area. Anna managed to avoid the events of Bloody New Years by virtue that she had traveled to Vladivostok, Russia. To engage in a meeting with the Camarilla leaders in Asia. Returning to Los Angeles in the chaotic days after the deaths of the LA Camarilla leadership and the ensuing bloodshed.

NPCs: Anna has managed to regain control of most of the Camarilla in the LA region. As a result her network spreads through over a hundred vampires, and a few thousand other human/supernatural contacts throughout the LA region and Southern California.

Name: John Korvinus (last name was given by Anna, who took him in, for his black hair and raven look)
Age; 33
Species, Clan, Class: Changeling, Elemental
Appearance: Image
Stands at 6ft 1 and muscular
Personality: Quiet like his master, a man of few words, John however cherishes the innocent and like his master does not condone violence despite the necessity of it at times.
Biography: John was born in Brooklyn in 1963, but at the young age of 10 was kidnapped by a Fae. Taken to Arcadia he was servant, pet, and trained by the Fae. Of course he was little more than a plaything to them, the Gentry, nevertheless there were worse fates he could have been dealt by his faerie masters. Yet he yearned for home, an ache in his heart, an escape from the torture of Faerie. Eventually, after what felt like many years, he found his way through the Thorns. Arriving battered and alone on the West Coast of the United States. Where, in pursuit of an artifact he was happened upon by Anna and a few companions. It was not known what transpired between the two. Only that he became part of her employ as a bodyguard and protector. His mask complimented by the trappings of a butler and chauffeur to Human society. Tending Anna's property and fulfilling her daily affairs while she sleeps.

Le Roster and Quests

Postby Imperialisium » Sat Feb 25, 2017 10:00 am

Quests and Objectives

The Eternal Rose
The concept of a Rose being eternal is an old one. But it is a feat most often in reference to a rose having been painted, sculpted, or forged. However, among more mystical lore and a popular myth or rumor depending on who you ask within Clan Toreador. There is indeed Rose's that are Eternally in bloom. Borne of seeds from a bush that was heralded to have been in the Garden of Eden before being scattered around the world by an unknown cause. These rose or roses depending on what you believe, mostly if you're Toreador or not, can become linked to one who holds it. A prick of its thorn and it will drink a drop of the owner's vitae, Holding it in its petals and should the bearer's body perish. The planting of the rose upon their resting spot shall give them resurrection. Naturally, those outside Clan Toreador balk at this as fanciful nonsense. However, rumors have floated for years that within Los Angeles a rose has ended up. To possess such an item would be a great boon to have, but to a Toreador, the rose if the very symbol of their Clan. Such a thing would set them apart from others in their Clan. For the rose need no water nor will it wilt by the passage of time.(edited)
The Bridges of Arcadia
Mystical gems that bear all the colors of the rainbow. Possessing within them nodes of glamouir/quintessence and allowing the bearer to cross into and out of the Umbra no matter how tough the gauntlet is in their particular area. Allowing them to potentially land in Arcadia and back on a safe route that in the case of Arcadia follows a path through the Hedge.
Saint Vincent's Hood
The hood and cowl supposedly worn by Saint Vincent himself. It allows the wearer to hide from common supernatural forms of detection like scrying. While also providing a Faith power amplification to those with high True Faith. Allowing them to withstand common magical forms of attack. Does not protect against line of sight or technological means of detection. Nor does it protect against physical assault or conventional weaponry. Supposedly lost during the Anarch assault on the Inquisition Cenaculum just outside Los Angeles in August of 1998 and last seen being worn by Inquisitor Feldmann.
Feldmann's Staff
An Inquisitorial Weapon that channels True Faith into a weapon of destruction. Shooting holy flame from its tip and forged by monks in the Vatican. It has numerous sister staffs and this one was given to Inquisitor Feldmann after ridding the city of Naples from vampires in 1985. Becoming a sign of his Inquisitorial status as and in July of 1998 he was confirmed as the candidate to become Provincial of Pacifica. The Inquisitorial Diocese covering California, Baja, Oregon, Washington, and Alaska. The staff has not been seen since Feldmann was slain in the assault on the Los Angeles Cenaculum of August 1998
Wolfarths Glaive A weapon dating from the 13th Century Welsh Werewolf Wolfarth. Crafted from the bones of those possessed by Fomori and having a jagged steel blade like the teeth of a great Wolf. It deals Aggravated Damage to Shapeshifters, Werewolves, and Fomori spirits. The weapon was transported to the Americas aboard the Don Seville in 1822 and became a symbol of Garou Chiefdom until it disappeared in Nevada during the 1900's. In reality it was captured after its last Garou owner was ambushed by vampires in the Rocky Mountains. It is in the possession of an Autarkis vampire named Eric van Demberg who masquerades as a Dutch trader in European and Americana artifacts while also peddling supernatural relics for considerable sums to the supernatural community.

Lords of Anarchy: Main Quest
This is a set of quests that carry the objective of subjugating or uniting the disparate Anarch remnants into a cohesive force once more.
-Saints and Hearts: The Dockyard Saints and Coven of the Purple Hearts are at odds. Attitudes are boiling over after an altercation at the Purple Heart's Gentlemen's Club leads to a Saints member getting thrown out and beaten in a back alley. A Purple Hearts stripper (ghoul) is found by the LAPD three blocks away from the Club unconscious and in a coma from blunt force trauma to the back of the head along with numerous other cuts and contusions. Success will lead to either reconciliation between the two, failure will result in open warfare between the two Anarch coteries.
-Skulls and Hermits: The Brazen Skulls are always looking to flex their muscle on those weaker than them. Their leader, Alessandro Corchiga, is looking to expand to hold the entirety of the South Los Angeles district in his grasp. To do so he needs to eliminate or absorb the dozen solitary Anarchs living in the area along with any ghouls or servants they possess. Success will lead to the absorption or elimination of a dozen Cainite Anarchs and Brazen Skull domination over the Southern Los Angeles District along with increased financial prospects. Failure will lead to the Brazen Skulls suffering losses and be checked by their contemporary rivals in The Blood Claws. Total Failure will result in the dissolution of the Skulls into smaller coteries and heavy losses.
Verse ZeroToday at 3:44 PM
-Not Quite Bloody Hands: The Blood Claws, rivals to the Brazen Skulls in South Los Angeles, used to secretly run the Bank of America branches in South Los Angeles. Unfortunately, as a side affect of the deaths of the Revolutionary Council of Los Angeles courtesy of the Camarilla any pretense of cooperation among Anarchs of not-so-strict-loyalty has fallen asunder. The Anarch-turned-Autarkis Horace Gelderstein, 11th Generation vampire (originally 12th but diablerized his sire in 2010 and thus outcast to the Camarilla cause Final Death isn't all that fun), and a reclusive millionaire living on an estate outside Los Angeles. One might ask why the Camarilla hasn't swooped in or the Blood Claws taken revenge on the betrayal. It certainly isn't only due to the platoon of heavily armed Ghouls guarding his estate. Or the pair of childe he sired in 2015 and 2016. It's cause he is protected by someone powerful in Los Angeles. But who? The Blood Claws won't touch him themselves. They need an enterprising individual willing to work a contract and failure is probably not going to be pretty.
-Anarcho-Capitalists? The first Act II quest of the Lords of Anarchy main quest. The start of this quest is entirely predicated on the success or failures of Saints and Hearts and Skulls and Hermits. This quest will involve seizing and consolidating the Anarchs economic and financial apparatus to support themselves in the Nights to come. Either way someone's kneecaps are getting broken in a back alley.
-The New Revolutionary Council: This cannot be started unless Anarcho-Capitalist's is also being started cause reasons. This Act II quest can be taken simultaneously or directly after the events of Anarcho-Capitalists and follows new political landscape in South Los Angeles. Specifically who is going to sit on the new ruling body of the Anarchs. Better yet who will actually hold the reins of power and what plans will be laid for the future. Success in this leads to the formation of a new ruling body for the Anarchs in Los Angeles that will solidify them against external threats (but still internally divided....think of a confederacy of sorts). Failure will prevent a Council forming and undoubtedly lead to renewed internal warfare between the surviving Anarch factions.
Verse ZeroToday at 4:00 PM
-The New Baron- Alternatively can establish the Anarchs into formalized domains and work cooperatively under a strong figurehead. If that figurehead is truly strong or just a puppet is to be determined. Success will lead to an Anarch taking the title of Baron and uniting the Anarchs into one solid group in South Los Angeles. Failure will probably lead to renewed strife and a defector to the Camarilla who will betray crucial secrets to them.
-Subvert the Revolution- If the Revolutionary Council is formed then one can pursue corrupting and subverting its membership to their cause. Vampire or otherwise. Success will basically make all the Anarchs a players by puppet/proxy. Failure will lead to an angry council striking against the player directly.(edited)
-The Los Angeles Free State- The third act quest is a culmination of events that leads to three choices. The continued subversion of the Los Angeles Anarch population which will inevitably lead to their self-destruction. The resurgence of the Free State territory in Los Angeles with the other Anarch territories in the American Pacific Coast and South-West that leads to stability. Or them shaking of the players shackles and a resurgence in the Anarch Free State with assaults on the player to follow.

Name: Kegan Kruvok (Yes, he is back.)
Age; 563, appears 22
Species: Kindred, Assamite, Assamite antitribu.
Appearance: Image
Personality: Kegan is a freelancer that does not owe loyalty to any clan or group. While he does tend to be more helpful to Camarilla, he will do almost any job if the money is right. Kegan is a bit sadistic when he has prey to hunt down. He enjoys the hunt and taking his time killing his targets. Often times, the body of his target will be unrecognizable and wI'll act as a calling card to others.
Biography: Kegan was "born" nearly six centuries ago. Nothing is known of his life as a human as he keeps that a well kept secret. His first recorded appearance is when he became an Assamite vampire. He took to things quickly, becoming known as a prodigy at blood magic and assassination. In his first year, he took over sixty contracts as an Assamite antitribu, completing them all. This trend would continue for the next century as he honed his skills even further.

Nearly a century after he became a vampire, he was forced to flee the Middle East. Growing tensions between him and others of his clan eventually forced him to flee as a blood hunt was called onto him by a corrupt local prince. He would flee the Middle East and go back to Europe, where he was suspected of coming from in the first place.

Kegan began to travel across Europe, rarely going anywhere close to the Middle East. He continued his work as an assassin, occasionally having to deal with vampires that found out about the blood hunt. He didn't find peace from it for the next century when he finally managed to get a spot to travel to America. Once in America, Kegan found work as a mercenary in the revolutionary army. While he wasn't paid much, he bet his money on being on the winning side of things.

After the revolution, Kegan started to live quietly in America. He would take contracts to keep his skills honed and his wallet fat, but he didn't have any real interest in the vampire world besides that. It was until he moved to Los Angeles that he began to pick up more work due to the unusually high density of vampires and other supernatural beings in the city. To this day, Kegan continues his work and watches quietly as the storms form above the city.

Alright. I will probably scrap the Pentex executive idea and replace it with a member of a scientific group obsessed with mages called Project Prometheus.

Name: Natasha Golikov
Age: 35
Species, Clan, Class: Werewolf, Siberakh, Rahu

Appearance: Human Full werewolf
Personality: Seen as cold and heartless, Natasha has certainly lived up to the reputation in the eyes of outsiders, however she is a mob boss after all. In reality she is simply an unforgiving businesswoman, and failure simply merits punishments, which range in degree to accommodate the level of failure. Those who know her never speak of what she is like when not dealing with her job, but she can be kind to those who earn it.

Biography: Born on the far outskirts of Saint Petersburg into a wealthy and powerful, if reclusive, family, Natasha never wanted for anything, though her parents raised her in quite the old fashioned way, never spoiling her and always pushing her to do her best. Her mother informed her of her werewolf heritage and blood when she was fairly young, and began preparing her for life as a werewolf and also as a Golikov.

She was introduced to the family business early on, always expected to take part when she was old enough and to run it when she was powerful enough, that business being organized crime, one of the largest groups in the Russian Mafia to be specific. She was placed in charge of operations in Moscow with experienced subordinates to help guide her. In Moscow she interacted with politicians (corrupt and otherwise), generals, and all sorts of other dignitaries, both human and super natural alike.

Operations continued as usual, a minor flare up happening when a Vampiric group tried to claim territory in Moscow, which Natasha swiftly had dispatched in a bloody clash that would shock the underworld of the city. In recent years she has been sent to LA to replace the boss there and his top captains, who had been slain during the Bloody New Year, leaving both the criminal activites stalled, but also leaving the werewolf community of LA without a strong and central protector.

NPCs: She controls the Russian mafia in the city, and has contacts in most of the government aspects, such as law enforcement.

Here is the description of Project Prometheus

Project Prometheus is a scientific research group led by Dr. William Baker. Dr. Baker is a firm believer in Atlantis and believes that Mages are Psychics. They are immune to Quiesence and obsessively stalk mages in search for their artifacts, due to the fact they think these artifacts can give them psychics powers too. This is due to the fact they are Sleepwalkers that can sense the Supernal but not use it. The artifacts they manage to steal get shipped to labs all over the globe to study. They have recently established a lab in LA.

Here is their views on the Supernatural factions. They are in the point of view of Dr. Baker
Vampires: Vampires, don't be silly. They are just old tales to explain illness
Werewolves: Some of our staff has ran into these creatures. Our current theory is that they have the same psychic energy mages have that allows them to project the bestial nature we all have inside us.
Mages: They are obviously psychics or at least have a form of ESP.
Changelings: They are visitors from a other dimension.

What do you think?

Why would they be immune to Quintessence?

Otherwise I like the whole concept.

One of my concepts is that they wear these glass domes that somehow shields them from The Lie and other mental effects the supernaturals project. For example, a researcher would be immune to a vampire's dominate. How they got these domes is unknown. But, some mages believe it is a gift from a Abyssal master, thus amking Prometheus servants of the Abyss.

So long as the domes can be removed or possibly countered then I see no problem with it.

The domes do jack-shit against physical damage and can easily be broken. Do you think these guys could make good foils for the pcs?

Player-controlled characters. My character will either be Dr. Baker or some other scientist.

Name: Dr. Augustine Smyth
Age; 47
Species, Clan, Class: Human
Appearance: https://thumbs.dreamstime.com/z/chemist ... 529954.jpg
Personality: Dr. Smyth is a cold and calculating scientist who has a no nonsense view to his research. He has been known to berate his fellow scientists and grow into fits of extreme anger when his research cannot be completed. He has also been prone to the occasional mental breakdown due to the fact that the nature of his reaserach defies the lie and is slowly tearing apart both his mind and his soul.
Biography: Dr. Augustine Smyth was born in Concord, Connecticut to a well-off family. Augustine's father was a well-respected business man who was a executive for Last Dynasty International. Augustine's father wanted his son to be a success in life so he sent off his son to spend most of his career in a prestigious boarding school. Throughout his childhood, Augustine proved to be a intelligent student who took a interest in science, especially physics. After graduating, his managed to pull some strings and get his son enrolled at Harvard University to study Physics.

After 12 years of rigorous study, Augustine finally got his PhD and graduated from Harvard with high honors. He managed to get a job at a government laboratory. For the next 4 years, Augustine built up a reputation as a well respected and intelligent scientist. When Augustine was 34, he was laid off from his job at the laboratory but managed to get a new job at Yale University as a professor. During this time, he was invited to have a debate with Dr. William Baker, a formerly respected scientist who was laughed off the scientific stage for pseudo-scientific views on Atlantis and psychics. During these debates, he found himself respecting Mr. Baker and invited him for tea at his house. During the visit, Dr. Baker discussed his beliefs with Augustine, and won him over to his side. Augustine quit his job at the University and accepted a job at Baker's research organization, which was called Project Prometheus.

On his 40th birthday, Augustine had his first encounter with the supernatural. This encounter happened during a choice visit to Baker's main lab in London, England. There, Augustine was forced to wear a strange glass dome before walking into the lab. Inside he saw a stone tablet written in some ancient language. Then, to his amazement, it started to float in midair and glow. Baker explained that the slab was really emitting psychic energy and caused people who call themselves '' Mages" to get psychic powers. Augustine was enthralled by this concept and immediately started to study these psychics and their powers. Currently, he is establishing a lab in LA after the events of The Bloody New Year got the groups attention.
NPCs: A bunch of Prometheus researchers.
