I honestly don't know much about Northern Irish policies, but I do know that the Northern Irish do NOT get along with the Irish. So... making it work would be hard.

Theres a lot of history, messy relationships and different viewpoints in N. Ireland and Ireland. Some like each other, some don't. But it is viable that you can be leader of two countries, as long as your political party has the majority in two countries, which is very odd obviously.
