It'll be interesting to see how your government officials resist the allure of power and greed. So far, no government has.

Unless you develop Soma and start a Brave New France. :P

I mean, the executive branch is essentially a Directory partially elected by the People's Senate and partially by the people. The People's Central Committee holds each other accountable and the President of the Central Committee holds the position of domestic leader, and helps the Central Committee oversee economic protocols and finalizes laws.

The Chairman of the People's Senate is the commander-in-chief and represents the French Socialist Republic on an international scale, and can form treaties and such for the Central Committee and People's Senate to review. Full Nation Name : The United Republican States of North America, Officially Shortened to the United Republics of America or URA
Majority/Official Culture : Mostly western European in culture with majority British and German and to an extent French. However Ethnically most people have a good portion of Native American blood in their veins.
Territorial Core :
North Carolina, both Virginias, Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Missouri, Iowa, Southern Wisconsin, Kansas, and Eastern and Southern Nebraska.

Territorial Claim : Peninsula South and East of Ottawa Canada, The Great Plains, The Rockies,
Capital city: Franklin (Colombus ohio)
Population : 32,000,000

Government Type : Constitutional Representative Federated Republic
Government Ideology/Policies : Selective Neutrality, International Trade
Government Focus : The government is largely established to protect the people and properties under it's control, it for he large part has little local appearance.
Head of State : President Marcel G. Hackett en Shawnee
Head of Government : Chief Legislator Clive Baeumner en Powhattan
Government Description : The Central government of the URA is divided into four sects. Considered the Leadership of the government the Presidential branch is led by the president, the Legislature is where laws are created for the nation led by the Chief Legislator, the Judiciary is the supreme court run by the supreme Justice, and lastly the State-House has a representative from each state and territory run by the the chairman elected by the Sate-house representatives at the end of each year from among their own number. There are 21 states as of 1860. There also needs to be stated a mild divide between the 'native' Americans and the immigrants. The vast majority of Americans being of some native american blood and taking the Tribe connection name, marks them as a citizen in some ways. Many immigrants are looked down on and expected to integrate into a tribe within a couple generations.

Majority/State Religion : mixture of the major European religions and native religions
Religious Description : Religious freedom is a paramount ideal in the URA however a slight lean to Teutonic Christianity exists as the majority.

Economic Ideologies : Capitalism
Major Production : Food Stuffs, Lumber, processed ores, textiles,
Economic Description : The URA economy is largely self driving and while the government will act to protect the interests of it's people, there is little regulation for the most part outside of the Hackett acts which protect workers.

Army Strength : Well versed in guerrilla with a proven doctrine incorporating non-static tactical techniques.
Army Weakness : A young and inexperienced military coupled with a very large area to protect and small divisions between different states.
Naval Strength : American ships a very agile and have been historically linked with powerful longer range weapons making them excellent at hit and run style skirmishing.
Naval Weakness : American ships are smaller and the navy as a whole is too small to effectively protect shipping lines that are further from URA shores.
Further Military Description : The URA military is composed primarily of State raised regiments, and while there are several better trained federal regiments, these exist in war-time and peace time as a defense. The State raised regiments are the conscription force for the URA military. The URA navy is a federal military branch only and so acts with impunity across the country like the URA Federal Army. A large bulk of the initial military in any conflict would be units dubbed rangers. These are light quick moving units usually operating on the local level under the command of a Federal or Republic Officer. They are primarily skirmish units and are used both to police remote regions as well as defend against incursions of enemy troops. (Think Early Texas Rangers)

National Goals : To Expand westward and to modernize the nation in it's entirety
National Issues : Heavy industrialization is required to attempt the expansion and modernization of the military
National Figures of Interest : President Emory Bradshaw en Powhattan First President. Benjamin Franklin en Pequot First Chief Legislator and Second President. President George M. Hackett en Shawnee popular reformist president.
National Ambition/Aspirations : The chief aspiration is to found a global power with URA values that has the ability to influence acts around the world.

History :
  • 1499: Samuel Tyndal, a Cambrian sailor lands near New Amsterdam he returns home to England but is hunted by authorities for crimes and so makes his way to Holland.
  • 1500: Samuel Tyndal leads a colonial expedition of two hundred men to where he landed the previous year and they establish New Amsterdam.
  • 1502: Arthur Wellman leads he first of three colonial expeditions to the American Coastline for Cambria. They establish three coastal towns by the years end.
  • 1521: German and Danish colonists settle in the Chesapeake bay.
  • 1527: The Iroqouis war begins New Amsterdam is soon overpowered and enlists the help of Cambria ceding half its colony to Cambria for aide. New York is established with a fort.
  • 1529: The Iriqouis are narrowly defeated. New Amsterdam becomes very reliant on Cambria.
  • 1567: The city of Chesepeake becomes the largest in the chesepeake colony. It becomes a point of several ships coming to the americas.
  • 1601: Germans become the most common colonists landing all along the eastern coast of north America.
  • 1609: Johann Klugmann is made governor of the colony of Chesapeake.
  • 1621: The Colony war begins between the Cambrian and German colonists south of the Chesapeake bay. Both sides gain native allies and the war quickly takes a heavy toll.
  • 1623: The massacre of New Frankfurt leads to the capitulation of the German colony to Cambrians. The German's native allies form the Powhattan Commonwealth which becomes a protectorate of the Cambrian colony of Columbia. Chesapeake also becomes a protected colony of Cambria.
  • 1635: Cambrians are the dominant group of colonists coming into the area.
  • 1640: The Powhattan Commonwealth dissolves as it becomes more and more reliant on the Cambrian colony of Columbia. It's intermixing of native and European population begins other colonies and native populations intermixing more.
  • 1648: Daniel Tanne becomes the governor of New York, he is half native and a quarter german.
  • 1655: The First African slave to be granted his freedom in Columbia is Saul Wellington. He becomes a land owner and prominent member of the community in Arthursport.
  • 1656: A shift in slave populations in the colonies makes the majority of slaves either Irish, German, or Native, however many African slaves are brought to Columbia.
  • 1685: The Irish Revolution starts in New York, four hundred people are killed in the resulting crackdown. Nearly as soon as the revolt is put down another slave revolt of all the different ethnicities begins. New York and shortly there after new Amsterdam fall into chaos.
  • 1687: The Free State of Liberata is established by the slaves. It is continuously at war with neighboring colonies and resistant military forts across their territory.
  • 1690: The Siege of New Amsterdam leads to the collapse of the Free State of Liberata. However new laws for the treatment of slaves are put in place through out the colonies.
  • 1700: The Cambrians settle further inland with integration of many small native tribes. The Confederacy Wars begins as the Iroquois confederacy attempts to push out encroaching colonists.
  • 1733: After over three decades of off and on warfare between the Iroquois and the Cambrians multiple other native nations had become involved with the fighting. However the Treaty of Ohio sees an end to the hostilities. Cambria has all but crushed the Iroquois who are forced south into a reserved territory in Columbia. Most never make it with many being either enslaved, dying of exposure, or in the case of nearly ten thousand children forced into the homes of Colonist families.
  • 1752: Interaction between the colonies and native tribes exceeds that of interaction with the European homelands. At this point a distinct identity begins to form. The Typical colonist is a mix of German, Dutch, Cambrian, and Native American. Only new arrivals from overseas are pure european, they are largely forced to integrate relatively soon or risk being pressed out into the frontier. The birthrate from 1752 on overtakes immigration and most 'Americans' feel evermore that this is their homeland.
  • 1761: The First unification congress takes place in New Frankfurt, a strong movement begins for the unification and independence of the Colonies.
  • 1763: Governor Edward Wright of Columbia, and Governor Gerhard Krauss of Chesapeake are killed along with a dozen other loyalist Colonial leaders. The Governors of New York, Virginia, and New Amsterdam are killed later that year by the growing 'new natives' movement.
  • 1764: The Start of the New Natives revolution begins. Soon to be called simply the American Revolution, this war spreads quickly across the colonies, as the large number of Cambrian and German soldiers are attacked along the frontier by the native populations and nearer the coast by 'new natives' the war turns in favor of the rebels.
  • 1767: The Cambrian and German militaries score a string of victories against the rebels and by winter the Cambrian military has secured the Columbian colony and the German military has seized territory as deep inland as the Ohio river. They commit many atrocities against native populations further in sparking outrage in both colonist and native populations. The guerrilla style hit and run attacks used by the rebels continues into the winter causing the German military to begin abandoning more remote forts.
  • 1770: The Siege of New Frankfurt sees the defeat of the German military in the Americas.
  • 1771: The Siege of Arthursport ends in victory for the rebels. Cambria, Germany, and Holland are forced to recognize the independence of the rebel colonies.
  • 1772: The Philadelphia congress establishes the constitution of the United Republics of America, with the first fifteen republics being established as Columbia, Virginia, Chesapeake (Maryland and Delaware), Pennsylvania, New York, New Amsterdam, Ohio, Appalachia (West Virginia), Tennessee (east half of Tennessee), Cahokia (West half of Tennessee), Kentucky, Erie (Northern Ohio and Indiana), Shawnee (Southern Indiana), Michigan (Southern Peninsula), Stellarre (Illinois).
  • 1783: The plans for a new capital to be built in Ohio are established. To be dubbed Franklin.
  • 1784: The Federalists win in a reform election this leads to the establishment of a Federal Army and Navy.
  • 1788: The Arthursport revolution is launched by slaves in Columbia. Hundreds of slave owners are killed and the city is heavily damaged as a mob of rebel slaves attempts to establish it as a fortified capital for their new country.
  • 1789: In the New Years Massacre over one thousand slaves and other rebels are killed by Columbia and Federal troops. This stories of the horrors of he massacre of entire slave families being killed spark a bitter wave of resentment to the system of slavery within the nation takes root. The Anti-Servitude Association begins lobbying for reform in the government gaining extensive ground with a new party called the Nationalist Patriot Party.
  • 1800: The Nationalist Patriot Party wins a majority in the legislature and state house. While a Federalist president remains in power similarities between the parties allows for great cooperation. However while the Federalist party had no position on Slavery the Nationalist Patriot Party holds that slaves are citizens of America and to bind them is criminal. They pass the Servitude Act of 1800 and Slavery is there after banned. However in it's place a loose system of Indenture and Patronage continue Slavery in most areas of the Country in an unofficial way.
  • 1803: The Freed Farmers act gifts land on the frontier to Freed Slaves. This causes the border tribes to begin chafing with the URA.
  • 1805: The Nationalist Patriot Party joins with the Federalist Party having similar federal friendly Ideologies. They alter their name to be the Federal Patriot Party.
  • 1807: In direct opposition to the Federal Patriot Party, members of the Patriot party not in favor of a stronger federal government and pro-state parties form the Republic Patriot Party.
  • 1808: The First Rail line crossing State Lines is constructed between Franklin and New Amsterdam.
  • 1810: The First Commercial Toll Roads are built across Columbia and Virginia.
  • 1812: Three Cambrian men and two French Men are murdered for purportedly accosting a young American woman in New Amsterdam. There is little investigative work done but this denotes the increasing stresses between Native and immigrant populations.
  • 1813: A riot sees a clash between immigrant and Native gangs leading to a large fire in Franklin. Later in the year a chain of lynchings, assaults, and murders, as well as several other crimes begin occurring against immigrant populations in major cities across the URA. This starts a major reaction between those with connections to a tribe and therefore native blood and those from Europe or Africa.
  • 1815: The Erie riots occur. Six months of off and on arson, violence, and crime wrack the state with some international ships damaged in retaliation by gangs of natives.
  • 1816: The Patron and Protection act is enacted. This act allows for a tribe to fully act as patron for an individual in a family and support them with small amounts of government income aiding them. This has the effect the government hopes for and large amounts of the violence begins to die down.
  • 1820: The Case of Thalia Amber and Columbia vs En Cherokee is taken to the supreme court. The case is for a sixteen year old girl from Cambria under en Cherokee Patronage being physically and sexually abused and used as a slave. The girl wins the case and the entire Patron system is brought under intense investigation. Several hundred similar cases in Columbia alone are brought forward and soon the government is forced to intervene in the Patronage system.
  • 1823: Executive Intervention Measure 1823-01 or the Presidential Patronage Decree heavily restricts both Patronage and Indentured Servitude. Every Contracted Patronage and Indenture agreement has to be filed with the Federal government, every person Indentured must be over fourteen years or older, every person under Patronage must be afforded adequate care and cannot be forced into returning any service.
  • 1825: The twelfth amendment illegalizes the act of Indenture and servitude of any kind.
  • 1826: the Pawnee-Dakota War begins. With the Pawnee as a protectorate of the URA the URA goes to war with the Dakota and it's allies.
  • 1828: The Pawnee inclusion treaty brings the Pawnee officially into the URA with their lands as an administrative territory.
  • 1829: Treaty of Two Pines establishes the current borders of the URA and ends the war with the Dakota in a URA victory.
  • 1830: The States of Chippewa (Northern Wsconsin and Northern Michigan), Tamaroa (Eastern Missouri), and Osage (Western Missouri), are admitted to the URA.
  • 1833: The State of Iowa (Iowa and Southern Minnesota), is added to the URA.
  • 1834: The Comanche wars begin as raiding parties from both sides raid back and forth. This Founds the Kanza Rangers. Predominantly from local farms and towns the Rangers use then Comanche's hit and run tactics against them to great effect. This time period becomes popularly known as the Red Prairie War coined by the New Amsterdam Dispatch due to the amount of brutal murders. This fighting is an unofficial war with the Comanche.
  • 1840: The Federal Government admits Santee (Northern Minnesota) into the URA as the twentieth state.
  • 1841: The federal government becomes involved in the fighting in the Red Prairie War. They utilize two main rail lines, the Stormfront Line running from the coast to the war zone, and the Sacred Hills-Franklin Line Direct from the capitol. This allows the speedy transfer of Fourteen Thousand troops outfitted with modern weapons and artillery within a few months time and the Comanche as end with the Treaty of Great Bend.
  • 1844: Pawnee (Current controlled Kansas and Nebraska) is made the twenty first state in the URA.
  • 1848: A pro-commune group assaults the capital building in Franklin Killing two Supreme Justices and the Chief Legislator. These attackers are largely French born or French Descended Immigrants. Most are executed and the country falls into outrage at the attack. While no longer french citizens the populace largely blames france.
  • 1850: The 1850 Census shows that 7% of the Population of the URA remain pure blooded natives, 6% are pure blooded German, 4% are Cambrian, 1% are French, .5% are Dutch, .5% are Belgian, 1% are African, and 78% are 'native' or american meaning mixed blooded of European and native.
  • 1851: French, Belgian, and Dutch immigrants are barred from entering the country largely considered radical anarchists. The George M. Hackett en Shawnee begins his Presidential campaign at the head of the newly founded Native party.
  • 1852: The Native Party's opponents both the Republic Patriot Party and Federal Patriot Party are led by french descended individuals. A smear campaign begins which targets the fact the french are undergoing a seemingly anarchist revolution.
  • 1853: The Federal Patriot Party Dissolves under pressure and is absorbed into the other two leading parties. Resentment to French and French born individuals skyrockets.
  • 1855: George M. Hackett wins by a landslide. Anti-communist, Anti-Socialist, and Anti-French opinion reaches an all time high.
  • 1860: Using the same tactic of labeling his opponents as puppets of the French and anarchists Hackett wins a second term.
  • 1861: The Anti-Commune Act is enacted banning trade with Communist nations. The act does not include socialist nations and instead pointedly targets the French.
  • 1862: The Native Party enacts the Workers of America Defense Act, this establishes a defense for worker wrongfully let go from work for purported communist ties.

Well, if China does go socialist, I plan for it not to be the authoritarian Soviet type. Such has proven to be inefficient and easily corruptible.

Italy's government will be a dictatorship, but I am avoiding going down the path of the Soviet Union by having an economy like China's, which is capable of adapting.

That's social democracy. It's just capitalism with welfare. China will be going towards some sort of council communist / syndicalist mixture, with a dash of not!Maoism as well if it does go socialist. Still actual socialism at heart, but not as immobile / static as state socialism, and less prone to corruption.

Also, what do other Europeans think of the fact the current Chairman (Simon Moreau) of the People's Senate is one-quarter African (the rest being, presumably, French), during a time period where slavery has probably just recently been abolished and Africans in most countries are still probably fighting for civil rights and voting rights and such?

China would certainly approve of that. The current government is officially non-discriminatory in practice. China's socialists and communists do approve as well, as they are internationalist and anti-racist in belief.

I can't speak for the rest of Europe but Cambria's had three centuries of pagan humanism. The attitudes are pretty accepting where "(it) harm none". So skin colour doesn't mean much for Cambrians except as a curiosity. I liken it to a phrase Morgan Freeman's character says in Robin Hood, "Allah loves wondrous variety." Leaving out the Allah bit, that's the prevailing attitude for my folks. Not everybody, obviously. There's always haters. :)

On paper, Italy is a fully communist nation, but in practice, not so much. Italy's economy is more of a mixed economy, very similar to how China's economy works in RL.

...France will probably only be allied with Italy simply because it is "communist", then, rather than being true allies.

Will Italy help bring about the Glorious Revolution in weak Bourgeoisie Monarchies, then? Spain's up first.

@Cy. How is France not communist?

We will help France for the sake of the ideology.

And I think in the future, France and Italy will split along political and ideological lines due to these differences (similar to the RL Sino-Soviet split).

Ey, France better be interested in the possibility of commie China :p

Unlike the RL PRC, we'll largely be able to manage ourselves (our industry has not been wrecked from a huge foreign invasion) and won't rely as much on foreign aid. Although Chinese socialism will definitely be different to a degree. True socialism with Chinese characteristics, not revisionist CCP stuff from Deng Xiaoping.

See, the French Socialist Party is somewhat 'progressive' with regards to social issues such as African rights and the likes, mostly because they view ex-slaves and blacks as the most taken advantage of under the Bourgeoisie System. Therefor, they get the same rights as their fellowmen who are white under the Glorious Revolution.

This being another feature of Marxist-Pierrean thought that might be dissimilar to Marxism-Leninism, mostly due to time period.

@Cy. Well, then, they probs approve of that aspect of it, then.

They probably hate the extreme anti-monarchist thought of Marxist-Pierrean ideology, tho.

@Orson. Yeah, makes sense. But first, we need to liberate the people and workers of Spain!

@DEA: yes, France will approve of commie China, especially if it embraces Marxist-Pierrean thought.

Oh yeah, the Aztecs are syndicalist, which is close enough to socialism.

Cambria's been a constitutional monarchy with representative government for a while now, so I dunno. Depends how extreme. :)

Like, basically, all monarchs must go the way of Louis XVI, and monarchist governments replaced with democratic republics at "worst" and replaced by Marxist-Pierrean socialist governments at "best."

Definitely a nation with which Cambria wants trade and good relations. But that's Cambria's aim with everybody until the shenanigans start. ;)

Regardless, whether you guys are communist like the USSR and China, or "communist" in name only, the primary factor of international relations will be your actions rather than your ideology. At least at first. 8)

Marxist-Pierrean thought is similar to Marxism-Leninism but with a few key differences, and while the FSR/FPR is run similarly to a unitary version of the USSR, it isn't run exactly the same.

Also, I'm guessing that this means Italy isn't Marxist-Pierrean.

As I said earlier, on paper, Italy is Marxist-Pierran, and it is the official ideology of the government. In practice, no so much.

Ah. Gotcha. But that definitively means the FSR came first, and inspired Italy's communist revolt shortly thereafter.

Apparently Qing China had a GDP of roughly $189,470 million in 1870 (1990 dollars) based on the estimates of Angus Maddison, a former British economics professor at Cambridge. Which is roughly $529.25 per person (Surprisingly that number seems higher than China during the 1950s...). Russia had on of roughly $83,646 million, giving it a GDP per capita of $989.89. Britain's was $100,180 million, meaning it had a GDP per capita of $4659.53.

Now this was when China had yet to industrialize at all. Russia was also really backwards at the time as well (not as much as China though). The National Union is significantly more developed than Qing China, and although has a lower population, should definitely have a much higher GDP.

Say China has a GDP per capita of $1058.5 (Doubled, which doesn't seem too far fetched, given that the nation has been actively developing for the past ~50 years, and counting Liu dynasty growth. Takes into account the civil war, which caused China to lose 2-3 decades of development). Still far from developed, but not horribly backwards. Multiplying by the ~310 million people in the National Union, this gives the nation a GDP of $328.135 Billion ($328,135 million). Big numbers there.

Japan had a GDP of $25.393 billion in 1870. GDP per capita: $769.48. Now, I'd say RP wise Japan has one of at least ~$2000, given it's much earlier development (around 80 or so years early in fact). With its 55 million people, that amounts to a GDP of $110 billion, way larger than RL Japan. Although I'd think the colonies would be poorer on average (not Korea, seeing that that's been part of Japan for a few hundred years now).

Japan views China as an essential partner but is wary of Marx-Pierrism spreading to China, possibly turning this close ally and trading partner against the benevolent constitutional monarchism that exists in Dai Nippon Teikoku
