Earth is fucked due to climate change and resource wars. Humanity runs for Alpha Centauri, whose main world is vaguely habitable. Mid-flight the captain of colony ship is murdered by an unknown assailant, and the mission splits in to factions on ideological lines. Factions colonize world named "Planet" adapting to the strange semi-sentient and hostile ecosystem and their own internal conflicts.

Yeah the Interplanetary War would be a cool setting, but like any other Halo setting it would suffer from a lack of canon factions, you'd basically just have the UEG/UNSC, the Frieden and the Koslovics, the rest would have to be player-made or we add some of our own lore.
And from a perspective of not competing with Arch's new ME:F RP, we should probably indeed do the Alpha Centauri thing.

Who killed the Captain? The National Dominion of Hungary wrote:

We can just assume already existing nations as factions.

It is never technically elaborated on, but usually a crazed survivalist or ecowarrior is suspected.
Edit: Actually, I was wrong. We do know- the Captain was killed by an ecologist who had nihilist tendencies and thought humanity should die out instead of civilization continuing on Charon.

So did Earth destroy themselves? I mean how else would you lose contact.Elerian wrote:
At least a handful of systems. Maybe each nation starts in their own system and a handful of unclaimed systems remain for them to war over?
Scientifically we can have two systems. The main system is a binary star system, then there is a loosely connected red dwarf.

Yep, burned itself to a cinder in nuclear war while the colonists were in cold-sleep.
