President Ratimi began immediately working on changing the situation around, instituting economic reforms, the cleaning out corrupt officials on many levels of the government, and bringing in the military to secure the peace in the strife ridden areas. By the end of his first term in 2010, The UWAR was on its way to recovery. His second term saw major education reforms, boosting literacy across the country to about 62.8% and growing. President Ratimi ran again for a third time, but lost to the younger Amat Niang. The Incumbent graciously gave up power to the incoming president and helped aid in the transition of power. While President Niang has made many advances like strengthening ties with the south American Federation and finalizing deals to include Mali, Mauritania, and Mali into the Republic, he has had difficulty in living up to the past deeds of his predecessor.
