In the year 10 BBY, things were looking pretty good for the recently established Galactic Empire; much of the known Galaxy had fallen under their control, the Jedi were all but extinct, and the mighty Death Star was rapidly nearing completion. But everything changed when an exploratory fleet charting unknown regions in Wild Space stumbled upon an ancient and long forgotten foe: the Eternal Empire of Zakuul.
Up against an enemy the likes of which it had never seen, nearly all of the ships in the exploratory fleet were quickly destroyed; only the flagship was spared destruction and instead captured by the Zakuulans. Studying the data from the flagship's computers and its Captain's communications logs, the Zakuulans learned of the Empire's superweapon, and deciding that it could one day pose an existential threat to their people, decided to strike before it could be completed.
As the Death Star's location was not listed in the ship's logs, the Zakuulan Eternal Fleet launched a surprise attack on Coruscant and uncovered the station's whereabouts from the Emperor's records in the Imperial Palace; killing the vile Sith Lord in the process. As the mighty Imperial fleets were scattered throughout the Galaxy searching for Rebel forces, the Empire could not recall enough ships in time to put up an adequate defense against this new foe. After destroying the Devastator, Executrix, and the handful of other ships defending the station, the Eternal Fleet took advantage of vulnerabilities in the unfinished superweapon's hull and destroyed it.
Rather than return home with news of their success however, the Zakuulan Emperor decided that the Galactic Empire should have to pay for the losses he sustained in the battle, and returned with his fleet to Coruscant intending to sack the wealthy planet. As his fleet dropped out of hyperspace however, he quickly learned that Coruscant was not as defenseless as it had been earlier; while the Zakuulans were destroying the Death Star, Grand Admiral Thrawn had managed to recall ten Imperial fleets to defend the Capital of the Empire. Despite being outnumbered, the Imperial fleets fought the Zakuulans to a near standstill, thanks in large part to Thrawn's superior tactical ability.
The stalemate was broken when the Zakuulan Emperor ordered a number of his vessels to feign retreat, and the incompetent Imperial Admiral Konstantine took the bait. Konstantine led his fleet away from the rest of the Imperial forces in pursuit of the fleeing vessels, only to have them turn about and reengage when they had successfully divided the Imperial forces. Separated from the rest of the fleets, Konstantine's ships were quickly destroyed, and in their absence the Imperial right flank quickly collapsed. In the worst defeat the Empire had ever suffered, all ten fleets were totally destroyed, Grand Admiral Thrawn was killed, and the now virtually defenseless planet of Coruscant was sacked, and deciding he wanted to continue profiting off of the planet's wealth, the Zakuulan Emperor decided to occupy the planet.
With the deaths of the Emperor, Vader, Tarkin, and Thrawn, the Empire had no clear leader, and every ambitious Moff in the Galaxy decided the position of Emperor should be theirs. The Empire quickly collapsed into chaos as the oversectors declared themselves to be independent, with each Moff declaring themselves to be the absolute ruler of their territory. The Rebellion was ecstatic when news of the Empire's defeat reached them, and believing their greatest threat to be defeated they declared victory and founded the New Republic.
Those celebrations would quickly prove to be premature however, when a delegation of New Republic leaders were sent to negotiate with the Zakuulan Emperor only to be executed for the attempt. With the former Galactic Empire in shambles and no one powerful enough to challenge the Eternal Fleet, the Zakuulan Emperor decided the time was right to bring the Galaxy under his rule.
Five years have passed since then, and in that time the Zakuulans have managed to conquer most of the Inner Rim, while the New Republic has expanded into a good portion of the Outer Rim and parts of the Mid Rim, while the Mandalorians have left the Imperial remnants and control their own independent sector of space. Following the deaths of the Emperor and Vader, Jedi masters Yoda and Obi-Wan Kenobi reestablished the Jedi Order which is now headquartered in the partially restored ruins of the ancient Great Jedi Library on Ossus, and the four remaining Imperial remnants continue vying with each other for dominance throughout much of the Mid and Outer Rims.
The situation with the Eternal Empire recently took a sharp turn for the worse after the old Emperor died and was succeeded by his far more brash and violent son. He immediately drew the extreme ire of the Imperial remnants and the New Republic by dealing with uprisings on the planets of Hosnian Prime and Carida by ordering the Eternal Fleet to bomb all the major cities on those planets to ash. Knowing it was more imperative than ever now to end the threat posed by Zakuul, and with the remnants weaker than ever from the loss of many of their major shipyards and years of constant infighting, several senior officials in the remnants reached out to the New Republic to propose a temporary alliance to deal with Zakuul. Fearing what the new Zakuulan Emperor was capable of, the Republic agreed and an elite joint task force was established with the sole purpose of finding a way to end the Eternal Empire...
Hello, and welcome to Star Wars: The Eternal War! This RP takes place in the year 5 BBY, and will primarily be a character RP focused around the missions of an elite joint task force of Imperial remnant and New Republic operatives with the intention of bringing the reign of the Eternal Empire to an end.
The usual RP rules; no Godmodding, no metagaming, no Mary/Marty Sues, three line minimum per IC post (exceptions made for dialogues), obey the OP and Co-ops, inform the OP if you're going to be absent from the RP for more than two days (after two days uninformed absence, if your character is holding the RP up, the OP and Co-ops reserve the right to post for them), and of course have fun!
Note on character abilities: There is no set list of abilities, but please use discretion in the abilities you give your character. Characters can have a maximum of two mastered abilities, three advanced abilities, and four skilled abilities. Force sensitive characters can only be proficient in a maximum of two lightsaber forms and five non-basic force abilities (force jump, force push/pull, and lightsaber throw are considered basic abilities that all force sensitive characters have, and need not be listed under abilities). If you need ideas for other force abilities this site has a helpful list.
Character limits: So that we don't have a thousand Jedi or flag officers running about, I'll be putting a limit on certain character types. You can reserve a character type for 48 hours so that you know it'll be available while working on your app. The character limits are as follows: 1 Admiral (taken), 2 Ship captains (two taken), 3 Jedi (two taken), 3 Sith (one taken), and 2 Grey Jedi (one taken).
