2017: A New Dawn
Signups/OOC

Hello everyone, the is the new OOC for the 2017: New Dawn RP. The ground rules are fairly simple, I'm sure you've all heard them before. Follow all the forum-wide rules, obviously, keep any insults and appropriate offensive language to IC only, don't god-mode or metagame. As far as post quality goes, please at the very least try your best but one-liners and the like are not welcome. Finally, and I can not stress this enough, there is no alternate history up until the starting date of January 20th, 2017. You can take your nation in whatever direction you like from this point (within the bounds of realism of course) but you start with the exact same circumstances as in real life. Reservations for nations previously held in the last RP are in play

Mexico City, as the capital of the federation is the Federal District, the seat of the powers of the Union. Economics
GDP: $1.2 Trillion
GDP/Per Capita: $11,000
Foreign Trade Description:
General Economic Description:
The economy contains rapidly developing modern industrial and service sectors, with increasing private ownership. Recent administrations have expanded competition in ports, railroads, telecommunications, electricity generation, natural gas distribution and airports, with the aim of upgrading infrastructure. As an export-oriented economy, more than 90% of Mexican trade is under free trade agreements (FTAs) with more than 40 countries, including the European Union, Japan, Israel, and much of Central and South America. The most influential FTA is the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), which came into effect in 1994, and was signed in 1992 by the governments of the United States, Canada and Mexico. In 2006, trade with Mexico's two northern partners accounted for almost 60% of its exports and 35% of its imports, lower than previous years due to strengthening of relations with the Soviet Union, PRC, and EU. Recently, the Congress of the Union approved important tax, pension and judicial reforms, and reform to the oil industry is currently being debated. Mexico had 16 companies in the Forbes Global 2000 list of the world's largest companies in 2016. Mexico's labor force is 80 million. The OECD and WTO both rank Mexican workers as the hardest-working in the world in terms of the amount of hours worked yearly, although profitability per man-hour remains low.

Military Information
Military Branches:
Mexican Army
-Mexican Air Force
-Presidential Guard
-Rural Defense Corps
Mexican Armada
-Mexican Naval Infantry
Description of Armed Forces:Army: The army is under the authority of the National Defense Secretariat or SEDENA. It has three components: a national headquarters, territorial commands, and independent units. The Minister of Defense commands the Army via a centralized command system and many general officers. The Army uses a modified continental staff system in its headquarters. The Mexican Air Force is a branch of the Mexican Army. Recruitment of personnel happens from ages 18 through 21 if secondary education was finished, 22 if High school was completed. Recruitment after age 22 is impossible in the regular army; only auxiliary posts are available. As of 2009, starting salary for Mexican army recruits was $6,000 Mexican pesos, or about $500 US dollars per month, with an additional lifetime $10,000 peso monthly pension.

In recent times, the Mexican military has largely participated in efforts against drug trafficking. To do so, the Army has been steadily modernising to become competitive with the armies of other American countries and have also taken certain steps to decrease spending and dependency on foreign equipment in order to become more autonomous such as the domestic production of the FX-05 rifle designed in Mexico and the commitment to researching, designing and manufacturing domestic military systems such as military electronics and body armor.

Navy: The Mexican Navy's stated mission is "to use the naval force of the federation for external defense, and to help with internal order". The Navy consists of about 56,000 men and women plus reserves, over 189 ships, and about 130 aircraft. The Navy attempts to maintain a constant modernization program in order to upgrade its response capability.

Given Mexico's large area of water and extensive coastline , the Navy's duties are of great importance. Perhaps its most important on-going missions are the war on drugs and protecting PEMEX's oil wells in Campeche in the Gulf of Mexico. Another important task of the Mexican Navy is to help people in hurricane relief operations and other natural disasters. The annual Navy's budget is in a 1 to 3 proportion of the national budget relative to the Army & Air Force. For the year 2015, the Army got 10 billion dollars budget, versus three billion dollars for the Navy. The Navy has a reputation for being well-run and well-organized. This reputation allows for a close relationship with the U.S. Navy, as evidenced by the procurement of numerous former USN ships and Mexican Marines regularly being invited to train with their US counterparts in Coronado.
