It's like with Al Qaeda, if you do that, it just makes more terrorists. If you can't convert the populace, they will just support the overthrow of the colonial government.

Weakness: Lack of experience fighting a war.
Greatest Strengths: Fiercely patriotic. Best Gurrilas available besides Raiders, and are decent spies. Used to different climates, and give zero damns about the European rules of warfare if told not to care.
Weakness: Used to warmer climates.
RAIDERS.
Greatest Strengths: Units who fight with people they've know for a long time. Most Sharpshooters are Militiamen. Known for setting traps of dastardly proportions, ambushes. Don't follow normal conduct of warfare. Known to follow Indian tactics at times. Use Terroist tactics as well, also act as saboteurs.
Weakness: Less Organized, and Leadership is not as well trained. They also usually don't fight normally. They will go into regular formations, but don't follow the normal rules of war. Lack of compassion for Invaders, and will do what it takes. Also lack the amount of supplies, but usually don't need it.
CALVARY:
Strengths: Can serve as great distractions, lead the enemy into areas where ambush lay waiting. Experts on horse riding, and their way around a saber. Work as Good scouts, and tend to be familiar with areas they are working in. Very fast to reload.
Weakness: Less keen when it comes to dealing with soldiers who can get multiple volleys off at them. However, they are seen only when wanted to be seen normally.
ARTILLERY CREWS:
Strengths: Know their way of firing a cannons. Practiced for months before let into official service. Have ideas of where the best place in the country for Artillery placements are, and a knack for spotting good areas in foreign lands. Fast at getting Artillery ready to fire, and ready to flee.
Weakness: Forced to retreat if enemy soldiers get too close. Fast at packing up, but will abandon emplacements if necessary.
NAVY SAILORS:
Strengths: Former British citizens came with Navy skills, which they passed on to the Navy. The Leader of the Navy is a Former British sailor, so he is doing his best to get his sailors into shape, along with construction for the Navy.
Weakness: On the most part, aside from the British and some Americans, the Navy is being done by groups of people who never really did things regarding Naval issues, but realize it's importance.
MARINES:
Strengths: These soldiers are the first in. Can mobilize, and deploy the quickest, and usually followed by Militia. They work with the Navy and Balistics Corps the most, aiming to make a big splash before the Main Group, most notably the Army, show up. Do lots of raids, and tend to work in small groups, but very effective in Big ones. Also uses Indian Tactics at times. Only the best make it in, and training is made especially brutal to deal with possible threats at home, and abroad. Running is especially important. These soldiers don't march in battle, they run.
Weakness: Suffer from small Numbers, and usually get to combat zones weeks, if not months before the main force arrives, which can lead to straight out Gurrila Warfare, or types of Terroist actions on their part. Not the most honor bound section of the Military , but will show it when necessary.
Specialty: Land units are known for entrenching if defending, or finding Cover. Also hide, laying down in fields before incoming troops, and get up and fire volleys right in front of incoming forces. After firing, duck and run. Native troops are also very well trained.

It wouldn't be for the lols, France would be attempting to maintain control of the land, probably moving French citizens in to take their place. I could make ships, but I don't have many dry docks, only Gaza, Tripoli and Limassol. Mexico, recently, built a huge dry dock and port in Cancun, ask him to make you ships.
