NATION INFORMATION

Nation name:
France/French Empire

National goals:
Control/influence as much of Mainland Europe as possible

Nation's Leader(s): Napoleon Bonaparte

National Government: Supposed to work like this:
Image
but Napoleon effectively has all the power

National history:
The first written records for the history of France appear in the Iron Age. What is now France made up the bulk of the region known to the Romans as Gaul. Roman writers noted the presence of three main ethno-linguistic groups in the area: the Gauls, the Aquitani, and the Belgae. The Gauls, the largest and best attested group, were Celtic people speaking what is known as the Gaulish language.
Over the course of the 1st millennium BC the Greeks, Romans, and Carthaginians established colonies on the Mediterranean coast and the offshore islands. The Roman Republic annexed southern Gaul as the province of Gallia Narbonensis in the late 2nd century BC, and Roman forces under Julius Caesar conquered the rest of Gaul in the Gallic Wars of 58–51 BC. Afterwards a Gallo-Roman culture emerged and Gaul was increasingly integrated into the Roman Empire.
In the later stages of the Roman Empire, Gaul was subject to barbarian raids and migration, most importantly by the Germanic Franks. The Frankish king Clovis I united most of Gaul under his rule in the late 5th century, setting the stage for Frankish dominance in the region for hundreds of years. Frankish power reached its fullest extent under Charlemagne. The medieval Kingdom of France emerged from the western part of Charlemagne's Carolingian Empire, known as West Francia, and achieved increasing prominence under the rule of the House of Capet, founded by Hugh Capet in 987.
A succession crisis following the death of the last direct Capetian monarch in 1328 led to the series of conflicts known as the Hundred Years' War between the House of Valois and the House of Plantagenet. The war formally began in 1337 following Philip VI's attempt to seize the Duchy of Aquitaine from its hereditary holder, Edward III of England, the Plantagenet claimant to the French throne. Despite early Plantagenet victories, including the capture and ransom of John II of France, fortunes turned in favor of the Valois later in the war. Among the notable figures of the war was Joan of Arc, a French peasant girl who led French forces against the English, establishing herself as a national heroine. The war ended with a Valois victory in 1453.
Victory in the Hundred Years' War had the effect of strengthening French nationalism and vastly increasing the power and reach of the French monarchy. During the period known as the Ancien Régime, France transformed into a centralized absolute monarchy. During the next centuries, France experienced the Renaissance and the Protestant Reformation. At the height of the French Wars of Religion, France became embroiled in another succession crisis, as the last Valois king, Henry III, fought against rival factions the House of Bourbon and the House of Guise. Henry, King of Navarre, scion of the Bourbon family, would be victorious in the conflict and establish the French Bourbon dynasty. A burgeoning worldwide colonial empire was established in the 16th century. French political power reached a zenith under the rule of Louis XIV, "The Sun King", builder of Versailles Palace.
In the late 18th century the monarchy and associated institutions were overthrown in the French Revolution. The country was governed for a period as a Republic, until the French Empire was declared by Napoleon Bonaparte.

No offense Trans but we are pretty much always gonna be at odds
Opinions on politics: In light of the failure of two parties, there either should be none, or multiple major ones

Opinion on Government: Should be run by Mirthocracy (ask me about it sometime)

Why do I always play weak nations? I hate having every advantage, makes it boring to me

I decided to RP as the Empire of the Rising Sun. Discussed this app via TGs with OP and made necessary edits to make it okay.

Hope it turns out as good as I hope it does; also added a flag section.

NATION INFORMATION

Nation name:
大日本帝国 (Dai Nippon Teikoku); 日本帝国 (Nihon Teikoku) [TRANSLATIONS: The Empire of Japan; the Japanese Empire]; occasionally, 日の出の帝国 (Hinode no Teikoku) [TRANSLATION: The Empire of the Rising Sun]

Flag: Imperial Flag.

National goals: Conquer more of the Pacific, keep Japanese dominance, establish colonies in the Americas.

Nation's Leader: Her Majesty, Empress of Japan, Governess of the Imperial Vassals, Aya Yamazaki

National Government: Semi-Constitutional Hereditary Monarchy: the Emperor or Empress has absolute executive power, and is the commander-in-chief of the military. They have veto power and can approve laws. The Imperial Diet is the legislature, formed up of the Senate (Senators are elected for 6-year terms and can serve up to 3 terms) as the lower house and the House of Councillors as an upper house; Councillors are either elected by local Lords or Ladies, or are selected as an heir/heiress by a current Councilman.

National history: The Japanese Empire centralized much earlier than in OTL, as well as gaining access to stronger naval forces through European support. This was done to gain a friendly ally in Asia by some Europeans, to help try and control the Pacific. Unfortunately, they gained access to Chinese gunpowder and such... allowing them to begin modernizing their military. Thanks to continual advancing and starting to industrialize to some degree, the Japanese Empire became a power of its own right in the Pacific, and began to conquer lands.

The Japanese Empire became the dominant power in Asia and the Pacific, beginning to conquer and colonize lands; as well as create vassal states in other countries that had yet to be compatible with Imperial Japanese culture. The Japanese Empire, in the Joseon-Japanese War, conquered and annexed the Korean Peninsula, as well as Jeju Island (formerly belonging to Korea/Joseon). After this, Imperial Japanese ambitions grew immensely. The Japanese Empire used its naval might to begin annexing and conquering more territory, becoming very power-hungry for the Pacific.

The Japanese Empire conquered Macau and Hong Kong, as well as most of mainland China near the east and coast, as well as the part bordering Korea. The Japanese Empire became Asia's colonial power, as well as its overall great power. The Imperial Japanese military also strongly guards the Korean-Chinese border, and is ready to invade if it proves to become a necessary precaution. The Japanese Empire's expansion has only recently somewhat solidified itself; it now also taking claim over Indochina (Southeast Asia), the Philippines, and a few islands out in the Pacific. It stands today as the richest nation in Asia, as well as the most militarily powerful one in Asia.

Territory: Here's a detailed map, for your convenience.

Language: Japanese, Korean, Chinese [major]; Vietnamese, Cambodian, others [minor].

National Religion: Secularist.

National Culture/Identity: Japanese.

National Passtime:
The Japanese people partake in various sports/games as a means of entertainment.

National holiday: The current Emperor or Empress' birthday is the only really major national holiday.

Nation's Population: Approx. 350 million (give or take).

Allies: European nations (to be decided based on what other players say).

Enemies: The Japanese Empire has strong tensions with some 'unfriendly' Chinese governments in the west and such, as well as having hostile relations with European nations who seek to try and colonize Asia.

Political issues: Major political issues include: the integration of more of the Pacific, should Imperial Japan colonize the Pacific Americas (or even try to), should power be fully restored to the Yamazaki Dynasty (return to absolutism or borderline absolutism), how to fix the Imperial military, among other issues.

Chance of revolt: For Japan: No. For Korea: No/maybe [very small]. For Chinese regions: Yes [but not anytime soon, hopefully] Other Japanese Imperial areas: No [too weak to revolt].

Greatest Victory:
Beating Korea.

Most Embarrassing Defeat: Lost against an attempted invasion of Indonesia, but managed to make it a 'vassal'.

MILITARY STATISTICS

Head General: Grand Marshal Admiral Takuma Yamashita of the Imperial Japanese Army and Navy (the only one higher than him is Her Imperial Majesty).

Generals Staff: Marshal Admiral Takashi Koizumi of the Imperial Japanese Army and Navy (second in command to the Grand Marshal Admiral); Admirals Hiroshi Matsuoka, Hibiki Yamamoto, Takeshi Fujita, Kim Moon, and Jian Song of the Imperial Japanese Army and Navy (form up the Admiralty, the highest ranking 'military council'; serve under the Marshal Admiral and Grand Marshal Admiral)

Military strength:

Standing Army Size: Approx. 3.5 million
Reserves: Approx. 10.5 million
Total: Approx. 14 million

Imperial Japanese Army: Approx. 1,000,000+ men. Reserves: Approx. 5,000,000+ men.
Imperial Japanese Navy: Approx. 1,000,000+ men. Reserves: Approx. 2,000,000+ men.
Imperial Japanese Cavalry: Approx. 1,000,000+ men. Reserves: Approx. 1,000,000+ men.
Imperial Japanese Marines/Special Forces: Approx. 250,000 men. Reserves: 1,000,000+ men.
Japanese Imperial Guard: Approx. 250,000 men. Reserves: 1,000,000+ men.
Excess Reserves: Approx. 500,000+ men.

IJN: 3,000+ ships (approx 330 men, give or take, per ship if you were to put all active navy on ships; each ship fits only 250 men at largest, so, there's plenty of men left over for naval bases, basic naval defense, etc.)

IJA Artillery Units: Approx. 20,000+ cannons (not including ones installed at bases and such), among other artillery.

ARMAMENT

Infantry:

Primary Weapon: Standard matchlock rifles, or precision rifles.

Secondary Weapon: Standard matchlock pistol.

Melee Weapon: Usually a small knife, sometimes a katana.

Uniform: Something similar to this.

Pack gear: The left pouch is for extra ammo and such for all weapons they carry; the right pouch is for snack-foods and rations, as well as for a small canteen.

Greatest Strengths: Well disciplined, well trained, well equipped (closer to Japan); large numbers, "competent" officers(farther from Japan).

Greatest Weaknesses: Sometimes spread thin, some officers are incompetent and in their position thanks to family connections rather than merit (does not apply to Admirals, Marshal Admiral or Grand Marshal Admiral), smaller numbers (close to Japan); not very well disciplined or trained; also poorly equipped (farther from Japan).

Tactics: Depends; in large, cover-filled areas, they tend to prefer to use guerrilla warfare and attack their enemy from seemingly all sides; while in wide open landscapes, they prefer to try and 'create' their own cover, and try to keep themselves spread out to some degree; making it harder to pick them off.

Specialty: Fast reloading skill, along with being good at entrenching.

Cavalry:

Primary Weapon: (if on horses) Katana; (if not on horse) matchlock pistol.

Secondary Weapon: Some form of dynamite-esque explosive.

Melee Weapon: See primary weapon.

Uniform: Same as standard army.

Pack gear: Same as standard army.

Greatest Strengths: Move quickly, swords are strong.

Greatest Weaknesses: No real 'good' weapons; poorly equipped.

Tactics: Tend to like to flank or swarm an enemy, if possible.

Specialty: Anti-cavalry, charging.

Artillery

Cannon Types: Varies; most are borrowed or stolen from Chinese, Korean and European sources.

Mortar Types: See above.

Rockets: Yes, but they are more like fireworks... except with nails loaded into them.

Howitzers:

Shell types: 10 mm (sometimes bigger).

Men per artillery crew: 8.

Mules/Horses: 2-4 (depends on size of cannon and such).

Ships

Ship Line: Yamazaki-class; a rather large naval attack / defense ship.

armament: 50 cannons on either side.

Crew: Up to 250.

Accompaniments: Standard naval personnel and some marines. It also has a slight amount of armor, but not much.

You could always expand around me.

Also if we have any wars, could we like plan them so that you don't bring in like thousands of canons and just slaughter my army?

Accepted.

IC thread will be up soon

You could always expand around me.

Also if we have any wars, could we like plan them so that you don't bring in like thousands of canons and just slaughter my army?

Sweet.

Now, which European countries want to be aligned with Imperial Japan? And who wants to interact first?

You're too far east in the Americas anyways (if you're the native american nation bordering the US).

I wonder how the US will react if Japan somehow manages to colonize California/the west coast before they even reach it.

We could definently interact then.

Yes I am the Native American faction.

You could always begin a couple trading posts on the Sea I could send people to trade with so that I could get guns/cannons from you.
