I don't think you understand what you're talking about. Nothing made prior to the 1800s was a rifle. Every firearm prior was smoothbore.

No, those were usually rifles. Musketeers were deployed in the 15th century, even during the Middle Ages. Cannons too. If I am correct, cannons had a role in the crusades.
