I plan on expanding up to Iron Mountain, maybe farth north, before heading west towards the Mississippi. That is if the Tribal Confederation to my direct south doesn't block me from my dreams.

What kind of cooperation are you thinking of? Trade with possible military alliances? You could provide me merc's and I guarantee your independence and trade you food.

History:

When the world surrendered itself to the madness inherit in it, few were ready. In the civilized, dilettante Western world, they weren't ready. The cities fell into decay and ruin, the orders of society collapsing to the predatory men who awaited in the shadow, like weak dogs following a sick man, ever hungry.

The Flayas started as just another gang, murdering, raping, and pillaging their way across the wastes; making the world more and more like the hellscape it resembled, one body at a time. Hundreds, thousands, would eventually fall prey to their predatory sadism. The upstate wilderness became a place of such danger, that those of a more civilized sort erected their own warnings to alert innocent travelers.

Eventually, they developed their namesake. To ward off enemies from their territory, they had begun the common tactic of displaying the dead; though unsettling, few people were really deterred by a simple corpse. Attacks continued, and the Flayas grew mad. After a unsuccessful invasion by a self-declared band of "heroes", the survivors were flayed alive, a tactic the leader of the time had read in a decrepit history book on some land called "Assyria". The sight was so unseemly, and so frightening, that they began to decorate the limits of their territory with the remains. Soon, the discovered such a tactic wouldn't just ward off travelers, but also encourage surrender - they would allow at least some to live, in return for food, water, medicine and warriors.

And so, they got their name - the "Flayas", a band of lunatics that had begun to believe in dark, mystical forces that were clearly delusions. The leader declared himself born from the hells beneath, here to punish Humanity for the sins they created; he was here to kill, and to enslave, and his followers were to revel in his conquests as reward. The gang became increasingly fanatic, even having the faith develop into a sort of organized religion, and enshrining the leader's lineage as a quasi-monarch.

As time unwound, they lost some of their sadism; it was not sustainable. But they keep their reputation for flaying, launching guerrilla attacks to capture prisoners. If a tribe or village rejects their demands, they are flayed (after the captors have their way with them). The terror attacks continue - poisoned water supplies, midnight fire bombings, continued kidnappings, pot-shots, until the population gives in.

Despite their reputation, the Flayas love each with an almost painful strength. The believe in their right to live off the fruits of others, and see their Lord as God on Earth, the reincarnation of every divine power that has existed; they will fight, and die, to ludicrous, drug-fueled lengths to defend him, and will commit acts of terrifying barbarity to win his favor.
