Edge of the Empire

Fourteen years have passed since Operation Knightfall and the end of the Jedi Order, and Civil War rages across the galaxy, while the Hutt Cartel reigns in the Outer Rim. But challengers have emerged to the Hutt's monopoly on power and vice. A resurgent Black Sun has taken over much of the Hutt's business, while dissent and turmoil have begun to divide the Cartel. The Desilijic kajidic, led by Jiliac Desilijic Tiron and the infamous Jabba Desilijic Tiure intrigue against the ruling Besadii, led by Aruk the Great and Gardulla Besadii the Elder. The Empire often turns a blind eye to the crimes of the Hutt Cartel and the Black Sun, so long as they keep a steady stream of income for Imperial tax collectors. The fledgling Rebellion will often cooperate with smugglers and criminals out of sheer pragmatism, lacking any better allies. It is truly a gloden age for the smuggler and the criminal, and who knows, you too may climb to the top of this tower of vice.

But beware, it is a tower built on foundations of quicksand, and can collapse with the slightest tremor.


Hello, and welcome to Edge of the Empire, a Roleplay set in Hutt Space and the Outer Rim, five years before the Battle of Yavin. Players may choose to be everything from a smuggler, to a bounty hunter, from a Hutt Lord to an Imperial Moff. The choice is yours.

Rules

1. The word of the OP (Me) and Co-OP (None atm) is law.

3. Be polite, rudeness is not appreciated. Be considerate and kind towards your fellow players

4. Be reasonable and retain accuracy and realism.

5. Please, post regularly. Inactivity is what kills RPs.

6. Don't be too fast. Rome wasn't built in a day, and major changes do not happen overnight.

7. Please, use proper grammar and spelling. Typos and other errors are tolerable from time to time, but consistent poor spelling/ grammar is not acceptable.

8. This RP will be using "Legends" (aka the Old Canon) as it's basis. I may allow Disney/New Canon content if you ask.

9. No overpowered Jedi/Force Users. You are almost assuredly in hiding. Open shows of your power would be extremely unwise.

10. Players may control up to two characters and two droids.

Character Skills:

Characters may posses up to five skills, and may also have a single "master" skill, which takes the slot of two regular skills. Droids may posses two skills, but may not be force wielders.

Gunslinger - This character is skilled in the use of a blaster pistol, with a quick draw and keen aim.

Slicer - This character is proficient in at working within a complex computer network, and are able to extract or modify information from this network with great skill.

Pilot - This character is capable of guiding a starship through the vast reaches of space, and can preform the tasks needed to do so.

Navigator - This character is skilled in the art of navigating both the vast emptiness of space, and the tangled webs of hyperspace.

Negotiator - This character is a natural diplomat, charismatic and convincing, able to win over others to his point of view.

Force Wielder - This character is gifted with both a strong connection to the Force, and the training to use it.

Mechanic - This character knows the ins and outs of technology, and is skilled at repairing and upgrading it.

Trader - This character is born to haggle and barter, with a natural skill in both finding a desirable product and in getting a good price for it.

Spy - This character is as elusive as a shadow, and is adept at the gathering of information and data.

Demolitions Expert - This character is expert in the usage, application, and detonation of explosives.

Saboteur - This character knows how to undermine and disrupt everything from electronics to architecture.

Sniper - This character is a crack shot with a rifle, able to hit targets from great distances and under adverse conditions.

Archaeologist - This character possesses great knowledge of galactic history and of the relics of long-gone civilizations.

Doctor - This character has knowledge of medicine and it's application, and is skilled at healing those around him.

Personal History: Oron grew up on Corellia, a distant cousin of Senator Garm Bel Iblis. He served in the Corellian Military during his youth, and won Second-Class Bloodstripes fighting pirates near Talus. However, he soon bored of military life and purchased a battered freighter with money he had saved. Christening the ship "Uhl Eharl Khoehng" ("The Trickster King"), after the titular character of the famed Corellian tragedy. Freight Transport soon to turned to smuggling and even occasional piracy, with the profits being used to constantly upgrade and improve the Trickster King. Soon after Order 66, Iblis picked up a Jedi by the name of Earen Arundal, who became his Co-Pilot. Together with Oron's trusted astromech; R4-AD, and the mischievous Squib mechanic Pilfersavender-Velraldonos, the Trickster King and her crew became a renowned freelance smuggling outfit, specializing in the transport of Ryll Spice for the Besadii Kajidic
Personality Traits: Oron is a cynical pessimist with a dark sense of humour. His fatalistic worldview however, has not made him bitter. On the contrary, it has given him a devil-may-care attitude and a penchant for daring. Most would regard him as amoral, an allegation Oron would fiercely deny, as he follows his own personal code of honour (mostly revolving around not outright cheating, and never robbing the poor). He is a quick-thinker, and prefers to talk his way out of situations, despite his skill with a blaster.

Personal History: Earen Arundal is the scion of a former noble house of Alsakan, founded by Alsakani force-wielder Valen of Arundal (a relative of the ruling house of Archais, and allegedly a descendant of Admiral Hirken) shortly after the conclusion of the Seventeenth Alsakan Conflict. To Valen is also attributed the Gædii Orden, an unique order of Light Side Users, following the High Galactic tradition. For centuries the Arundals lead the monarchist faction on the lost Grizmallt colony of Renatasia IV, seeing themselves as bearers of Alsakanian High Civilization to the Wild Space. Born in 29 BBY, Earen Arundal recieved a commission as a navigator in the newly created Renatasian Joint Planetary Fleet at the age of 17 in 12 BBY, just days before the brutal invasion by combined forces of the Centrality and the Galactic Empire. Earen and three comrades survived the ensuing battle in which Earen's parents and sister were killed (his two younger brothers were recorded as "presumed dead") by fighting their way out of system in a military-grade YT-2000 freighter, part of a convoy attempting escape. For several years the four continued to fight against the Centrality as guerrilla warriors of the Renatasian Confederation, until Earen's three comrades were caught and executed in a raid on an Imperial Caravan at Hosrel XI. (Believing that he was) Guided by the Force, Earen took his now heavily damaged freighter through the Open Sea void.

Eventually while at Nar Shaddaa for repairs he fell in with Oron Bel Iblis (with whom he got along well with, despite the fact that Iblis is a Corellian) and became the navigator for the Uhl Eharl Khoehng. However, he retained his old ship the Alpenvinar, keeping it hidden somewhere on Nal Hutta IV. Wearing his old RJPF uniform he is often used by Oron to give The Trickster King a pseudo-inspection, reporting to the planetary authorities that there is no contraband aboard, which they usually accept with a little help from the Force.
Personality Traits: Despite all of the tragedy and brutally he has witnessed (or perhaps because of it), Earen retains a strong belief in the benevolent Providence of the Force, which sometimes causes tensions with his more cynical captain. Despite his hard life he has also retained a somewhat aristocratic outlook, viewing Alsakani culture as the pinnacle of Galactic Civilization, and is fiercely opposed to the Galactic Empire, which he views as a continuation of Coruscant's usurpation of Alsakan's rightful place in the galaxy.

Strengths: Loyal, Bound by a strong moral code, unobtrusive, learns quickly, calm in combat

Personal History: Sylri Was one of a few Jedi Padawans fighting in the War with their master. She was being transported with her master in the absence of Clones when Order 66 was declared. Sylri and her master narrowly escaped several attempts to kill them. Over time, Sylri continued her training with her master. She grew proficient in form Four and Five specializing in Djem So's counter attacks. However, they soon learned that Jedi were being hunted by a Sith Lord. It was shortly after that, five years ago, she and her master were cornered by soldiers and Vader, who was working to remove all remaining Jedi in his attempts to find and kill Obi-wan. She and her master were able to put down the soldiers, but Vader was too powerful. Sylri was sent flying away with a flick of the Sith Lord's hand.

Sylri tried to get back to her master only to see the last of the duel and Vader standing over her master, who was now on the ground, dying. She heard one last message from him. Go, hide. One day in the future, you will be needed again. She did just that she ran, avoiding the Stormtroopers that were coming to the area and found passage off world. She began a new life of working on various starships. Leaving a job if she felt as if someone was catching onto her or if any signs of Vader showed themselves to her.
Personality Traits: She is a good person, with strong loyalties to the Jedi Order and the Republic it once served.

Personal History: Glaneese (whose name means Lily) was the second child of two Chagrian warriors, her mother Loten had been a former Jedi, who had to go into hiding when the Order was being attacked. Her father Thyr was a fighter and adventurer on a space pirate ship and in charge of the technical things like computer function of the weaponry. She has an older brother named Glothyr who she currently works with on their own ship.

Their childhood was pretty unremarkable, but her parents would tell her stories of the Jedi and how they fought to save the world, and even though Glaneese was impressed she didn't really want to be stuck in the Order's rigid code although she had great respect for them, plus it would be dangerous to do such a thing now ever since the empire had been taken over. She decided to buy her own spaceship with her brother and became bounty hunters instead. She travels the galaxy as a bounty hunter and adventurer, sometimes an assassin for hire and taking jobs like transporting and selling items.

Personality Traits: She's fond of collecting unusual items, she's an adrenaline junkie and loves the thrill of adventure and traveling. She's a friendly person who loves laughter and will fire off a joke even when you're not supposed to. She cars deeply for her family and crew, even though in work mode it's about the money, there's a difference between blood money and just money.
Skills: Gunslinger, Pilot, Slicer
Strengths: She's a wizard with a blaster, this is her best skill and has superior agility, an expert pilot who knows how to navigate tight spaces as well as a tech whiz with computers.
Weaknesses: Headstrong, foolhardy and although she's smart she's not very wise. Not very good with bladed weapons and it's might over mind most of the time.
Equipment: Blaster pistols, two of them ("I never leave home without a blaster cannon")

Personal History: R3-8D was originally an astromech droid serving the Fleet of the Galactic Republic, eventually finding it's way onto Executrix, the flagship of Grand Moff Tarkin. R3 was damaged in the Subjugation of Kashyyyk and sent to an Imperial Base for repairs, but was stolen shortly afterwards by the rookie smuggler Oron Bel Iblis. R3 was the repaired and upgraded, and given a new paint job by the smuggler. R3 now serves an an assistant navigator, computer expert, and knowledge bank for the crew of the Trickster King.

Personal History: Jute Dux was born on Neimodia in 40 BBY. Like all Neimodians, Jute was raised in a communal hive, where he was abused, poorly fed, lived in squalor and generally suffered horribly. This system was designed to weed out the week, to reward the greedy and cunning. Of course, as it turns out, a larger than normal grub could survive rather well as a thuggish character. Indeed, his early years formed Jute Dux into an aggressive, even brutish character. This allowed him to survive, but also meant he came to despise Neimodian culture, and his people, as weak cowards, his, arguably justified, feelings of betrayal and anger at his people for the abuses he suffered only strengthened his hatred of them.

In 26 BBY, at the age of 16, Jute managed to escape Neimodia by hiding in the cargo hold of a merchant ship, the occupants of which discovered him quickly, though they proved to be interested in the young Neimodian, the head merchant, a man by the name of Marik Valdur, saw potential in Jute. Within threeyears, Jute had earned the merchants quite a bit of money in arenas and dueling rings, and less savory competitions, more than invested for training to be sure. Jute, however, was growing tired of this life, feeling he was again being abused. Almost all of his earnings were claimed by Marik, and of course he did not leave his fights unscathed. Nor was he given much time for rest or leisure. He ultimately pooled what money he had, betting it all on his losing his next match, through a third party of course. The match should have been a cakewalk for him, but he threw it, though he did make sure to fight while heavily intoxicated to throw off suspicion. He split the winnings with his partner, then fled Valdur's grasp. For the next year, Jute drifted, working as a laborer, bodyguard and also fighting in arenas and the like. But when he was 20, something glorious happened: The Clone Wars.

Jute would join a militia movement fighting for the Republic, more out of hatred for his home world and its stake in the Confederacy than any loyalty to the Republic mind you, though he was initially viewed with suspicion. His brutality fighting Separatists quickly rid his comrades of those fears, though did not stop new ones from forming. For those three years, Jute at last had a purpose, and he looks back on them fondly, the best years of his life. He went from a fighter to a warrior, no more a brute but a skilled combatant. He became well known, a violent Neimodian fighting for the Republic would be hard to ignore after all, not that his name was well known, more his existence and odd nature. While the Clone Wars' end was largely celebrated, an end to much of the carnage that plagued the galaxy for three long years, Jute was depressed. He continued fighting remnants and holdous for a time, but he found that with the defeat of Neimodia his drive was gone. Once more without a purpose, Jute drifted, though following the war he had built up a fair bit of wealth, mostly from looting and salvaging, though he did earn a small salary, which he added to in the following years.

By 11 BBY, Jute had become a respectable bounty hunter, though he also worked in similar fields. He had acquired his current ship and his only longtime companion, R5-3C, who he served with during The Clone Wars, had joined him, though he mainly maintained the ship and helped with navigation. Jute works for money now, but deep down he remains a broken man looking for a greater purpose.

Personality Traits: Jute is aggressive and easily irritable, as well as being quick to resort to violent and destructive solutions to problems. This does not mean he cannot be cunning or subtle, he simply find these options less savory. Jute also suffers mild paranoia, feeling others are always trying to trick, manipulate or betray him, making him slow to trust. These negative traits are obviously due to his life on Neimodia, which left him volatile, angry and brutish, as well as makig him feel isolated and helplesss. Despite this, Jute Dux desires a purpose, desires freindship and to ind peace. But while he desires this, he recognizes that he has and continues to do atrocious things, and so wonders if he truly deserves to find happiness or peace.

Mostly, his quirks have enhanced his existing personality, though he did develop a penchant for pranks and mockery too.

Personal History: R5-3C was manufactured as part of the poor performing R5 series of astromech droid, a fact he explains as organics not understanding a quality droid when they see it. He was deployed in the republic fleet, though was transferred to a militia force early in the war, where he met Jute. R5 found the brutish Neimodian to be a source of much amusement, and the pair formed an odd friendship, which only strengthened during the war and as R5 developed a more complex personality. It was this friendship and the mutual trust and loyalty derived from it which kept the two together years after the war, making a good team.

Of course, he ended up keeping it docked after a few weeks when he moved on to his next hobby. However, after the family became threatened by an assassin, Jute was hired to protect them, which he did, catching and killing the would-be assassin and, as part of his pay, was gifted the Void Seeker, which he promptly renamed Renegade. The ship has served him well ever since.
