I'll amend it. Have her sign the lease and move upstairs.

Players - I need a character that can integrate Tsu into the setting once she's in the dining room, please.

If you have the time, there's some stuff to reply to for Myra, Cer. If not, we can pick up with the convo leading to the SW story after the meeting in some way or another.

Same for Myra. If it's not urgent and is only a reaction, please move ahead. Don't wait on me.

I'd offer a character since the Co-OP's are rather busy as it is, but only one I'd have available is Sid who doesn't know the setting very well himself.

Got it, just wanted to check with you.

There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man’s fears, and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination.

I suppose I will attempt to join, even as the juvenile figure that I am among this community.

PERSONIFICATION LIFE
CHARACTER APPLICATION 2.0

PLAYER INFORMATION
NS nation nickname: Truth Incarnate, Alias of Truth.

Skill Level (beginner, intermediate, advanced): Beginner. Look at my post count. I'm not going to play the "starting person pity card" though. That would be scummy.

How often can you post? Practically all day, with 6 hours of sleep and maybe 2 hour periods of non-activity during the weekdays. All other time is almost permanently available. I'm not dedicated, I'm just bored.

CHARACTER PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Character First Name: Cecile

Character Surname: Tucker

Character Title: Unknown? Cannot find reference for meaning.

Character Gender: Female

Species : Human... Ish.

Age: 39 (Stereotypically young nigh anime character with omni-applicable abilities? Yes. I'll try to work on that)

Appearance: 177 centimetres tall, Caucasian complexion, basic facial structure that appears to stem from South-Eastern Europe, near the Balkan states. Brown eyes with enlarger corneas. Brunette hair, with a basic, nearly overweight build, according to the BMI chart, weighing 75.8 kilograms. Has a slightly low pitched accent that is generally split between stereotypical Danish and Siberian Russian.

Generally wears runners, cotton brown pants, a cotton white shirt, a hide jacket lined with wool coloured beige-brown and sometimes other things, you know? Basic clothing items, really.

URL to Character Picture, if any: N/A. I don't want this character to become any more anime and nigh Mary-Sue-ish. I know for a fact that awareness of the fact does not mean that it has been successfully avoided.

Character Occupation or Specialty: Low-level fighter in situations of urgent need. Generally, a specialised medic, field-scientist and "person who deals with the ugly looking shit in the corner".

Character's biggest strength: Advanced knowledge about biology and physics, with a level of education similar to that of a holder of a Doctoral Degree overall, and with specialised knowledge in their own field potentially outpacing that of their similarly qualified colleagues in other fields. Has a strong mind, both mentally and in terms of will. Considers many "disgusting" and "disturbing" things to be perfectly fine to look at.

Character's worst flaw: Relatively unskilled in most basic survival tasks, has very little survival instinct, generally needing to infer danger before reacting to it, and being slow to pick up on rather normal skills. Suffers from mild schizophrenia and paranoia, with rare cases of disassociation. Feels very strongly in cases of sympathy and discrimination, with emotions generally surfacing as a predominant decision-making factor in such cases. Is antisocial due to a lack of social contact, due to their position as a "monster" in society.

OBJECTIVES AND GOALS

Primary Objectives

Primary Objective: They came here due to the whims of some other person in a far away land, and now they're here to do something. They want to escape any discrimination against themselves and almost any groups, institutionalised or otherwise. They feel obligated by the inertia of their previous career to find a cure for their own mutagenic properties, or at least ways to suppress them. They want to be considered in a positive light for once, instead of being sidelined and discriminated against, and want to do something good with their knowledge.

But most of all, she wants to make sure her knowledge doesn't go to malicious use. She doesn't want another exodus and another generation of revenge.

Minor Goals: To make a meaning out of life, and to make a good experience out of their existence. Most of their life was spent being abused in one way or another, so of course they're going to try to make up for that. They have a goal, but they have no idea how to travel that path, and no idea whether it will be all worth it in the end. They know that they'll have a legacy, but they're not sure what they will do after they get that long awaited "cure". As such, they want to overcome their own social barriers and insecurities, and find a path that will also make them happy.

MUNDANE SKILLS

    List Mundane skills here
  • Able to treat basic medical injuries from situational background information, due to their extensive studies into biology.
  • Is relatively skilled in the use of terminals such as computers and PDAs.
  • Able to find patterns that most others would not be able to, and is skilled in deductive reasoning.
  • Can perform relatively basic carpentry.

SPECIALIZED SKILLS AND TALENTS

  • Ability 1 and Points Spent: Medical capabilities, generally stemming from raw biological understanding. Not even close to the level of a registrar surgeon's efficiency and method, but she "technically" knows what she's doing. 4 points, though in terms of actual medic capabilities, like... 2 points.
  • Ability 2 and Points Spent: Carpentry, 1 point. Can carve a good bird shape.

OPTIONAL SUPERNATURAL CHARACTERISTICS

  • Ability 1: Biological restructuring
    Power Level: 4
Strengths: Allows Cecile to restructure their body in many ways. Due to the fact that the ability itself stems from their body, repeated use increases their proficiency, though at a very slow, linear rate. As with hysterical strength and adrenaline-fuelled abilities, greater control and power may manifest in situations of extreme duress.
The ability allows Cecile to reconfigure their biological structure, allowing them to effectively change "form" at will, though it is at a small scale at the moment. An example would be shifting the components of a finger to turn it into a bony protrusion, or to make the subject's hair adopt a cellulose-like structure. It effectively allows the interchanging of various organic components and structures, as well as the instantaneous development of new ones. This does however use a great deal of energy. Surprisingly, it is almost entirely pain-free, except for the cases where all consciousness is lost during the transition.

Weaknesses: Using the ability extremely extensively is possible under specific circumstances, but it is very likely that there will be repercussions, such as total organ failure, heart palpitations or severe brain damage. Nervous overload while performing the ability often induces a catatonic state during the shift, or may send Cecile into a savant state, in which they act with normal, or even enhanced mental abilities, with greater mental acuity, but sometimes lose lucidity, and perform illogical actions or fail to recognise faces and objects, even if they execute the action otherwise perfectly.
Biological agents such as nerve gas and opioids spread significantly faster through Cecile's body, and often have dramatically more potent effects, or completely different ones altogether. Of note is that alcohol causes an almost immediate coma, tobacco in moderate amounts induces violent seizures and confusion, while caffeine triggers hallucinations, hyperactivity and heart failure.

Restrictions: Despite the clear potential for massive advancement in terms of the ability, it is thus far limited to the superficial characteristics of the face and the arms, specifically the hands, forearms and elbows. Reconfiguration of these areas allows for almost any mammalian structure to be developed, as well as some of those of primitive reptiles. Complex structures and organs are hard to recreate, but far more rough objects such as scar tissue or mucous membranes are easier to develop. Each transition, depending on size, takes between two seconds to several minutes to occur.
As with biological organisms of all kinds, Cecile is restricted by the fact that matter cannot be created or destroyed, which is to say, every structure they create and destroy has to come and go from somewhere. As such, they cannot just increase body mass. They must actively ingest a wide variety of nutrients and minerals in order to sustain their abilities, and protracted usage results in exhaustion, feelings of fatigue, and in some cases, spontaneous starvation. Structures that can be created are almost entirely based on the user's knowledge of their function, though the requirements are generally superficial. For example, Cecile cannot create an organ that they know nothing about, but they can create a new complex sensory system, such as an eye or such, due to the fact that they "know" what it is meant to do, roughly how it works and how to process the new input.
Renegeration of large structure such as organs and limbs is possible, and the new structures generally retain the previous functionality of their predecessors, but is tiring, and can take far longer than normal, as they are not simply modifications to previously existing structures, but instead effectively the creation of entirely new ones.

Cecile's abilities can be used passively or actively. Active usage is immediate, overt and takes several seconds, generally resulting in temporary catatonia or another sudden negative effect. Passive usage generally takes several minutes to days, and is often unnoticeable. Passive usage includes small structures and unnoticeable subdermal shifts, so long as the original functionality of anything that they make contact with isn't disrupted.

  • Ability 2: Enhanced internal characteristics
    Power Level: 3
Strengths: Effectively, Cecile is able to perform all internal functions at an unprecedented scale and level of efficiency. Nearly all chemicals produced by the body are used in some way, some over the course of several iterations of chemical makeup. Anything ingested is digested within an hour, so long as it would have been normally edible, and are converted with nearly total efficiency into their constituents. The body is also incredibly adaptable, allowing it to repel most foreign organisms such as parasites and pathogens with relative ease. The common cold takes only twelve hours to exterminate even in the late stages of infection, though feelings of malaise and exhaustion are likely to be greatly magnified due to the body's vast expenditures of energy. This is a permanent, constant state of her body.

Weaknesses: Cecile must eat great amounts of food, or ingest it in some other way in order to sustain this ability. All abilities can effectively be shut down immediately through the injection of most paralytics or anaesthetics, though in large doses these can cause severe biological degradation, resulting in deformation of tissues, immediate necrosis and cancer-like symptoms. All drugs and toxins are absorbed significantly faster and with greater potency, and most have lethal side-effects. LD-50 doses for her are decreased by between 42% and 99.9994%+. Essentially, she could die from a normal cup of coffee, since caffeine is a natural toxin meant to kill insects.

Restrictions: Cecile's body is not limitless. It can only process a certain amount of matter and material at a time, and often suffers from fatigue. While hunger is mostly a non-issue due to the efficiency of the body, sleep deprivation can be a problem, as can a lack of specific materials such as sodium and some vitamins.

MAGICAL OR SPECIAL ITEMS

List:
A shard of bone that appears to be capable of molding itself into several shapes, most often, a key. It's a reference to the "skeleton key", in case you didn't know. You probably didn't, and I don't blame you. It can also become a knife or something, I don't know.

EQUIPMENT

List:
A tissue.
"Jane Eyre".
A cellophane wrapper for a bag of chips.

They were blowing their nose while reading a book at home. They happened to be holding a bag of potato chips at the time.

If you want actual field equipment, then...
- A first aid kit with some additional supplies, such as painkillers.
- A sample-gathering kit, containing several pipettes, Ph samplers, e.t.c.
- A steel knife.
- A great deal of rations. The amount of rations is increased in tandem with how dangerous and long any deployment will be.
- In more dangerous missions, a Beretta M12.

BACKGROUND

Education or Training: The Royal Academy of Educational Advancement for Biologically Outstanding Persons.

Character Background/Biography: I guess it all started back when, five years before I was born, a big war broke out. Mind you, there had always been people with... Peculiarities. People who demonstrated biological differences, with a trend showing how they'd gotten more common and more drastic over time, sort of like a cross-generation cancer or whatever. I think I have my mother to thank or blame for that, who apparently had some of the most advanced regenerative abilities of almost any human at the time. Nobody cared about the people who just happened to see further, or think harder or whatever.

I was different though.

There were people who made everyone around them feel angry, sleepy, sad, people who could make their fingers fall off and grow back, and a famous group of cousins who could grow tree-bark from their hands. All around, it was a pretty weird world, but life went on. People got discriminated against, sure, but it really all came to a head when two massive political blocs just decided to fight each-other over some insignificant piece of land, and oh boy did they fight. Genetics programs that had been hidden from the public for years, massive genetic sample libraries taken from every man woman and hermaphrodite on the planet. They let loose a whole swarm of people. People who could suffocate those around them with a breath, dogs that could chew through metal and deliver electric shocks.

I guess that's why everyone started to hate the more... Extreme mutants. After the dust had settled, millions were dead, and the victors had stomped across the country, spending a lot of their spare time "rolling in the hay", if you know what I mean. More and more genetic anomalies, more and more hatred against the atrocities that those people had supposedly committed. It was the government's army, but it was the freaks that got blamed. Things got out of hand. There were protests, lynchings, massive military defections and desertions... It just seemed as if everyone was a little bit too eager to blame somebody for all the horrible things that had happened.

Then I was born in the same week that a veteran bio-op killed seventy people by giving them malignant tumours. The images were horrific, and they were all over the news for weeks, the media hungry to garner more views and ratings from all the "shocking revelations" they were revealing to the unsuspecting masses. Schools were built to segregate us, slums were erected and the people began crying out for blood every time one of us jaywalked or something. I'm not even kidding by the way, one guy got sentenced to three years in prison after he jaywalked, because he "demonstrated a contempt for the law that sprouted from their biological differences, thinking themselves superior to others."

So I lived a normal life, excluding the people on the train looking at that badge that I had to wear, and whispering to themselves about either the things I would do to them, or the things that they wanted to do to me. It wears a person down after a while, you know? Still, I strived hard, and even with all the chips stacked up against me, I managed to get my qualifications and my resume was looking pretty neat. I got a job as a lab assistant, and then as a director for a team investigating ways to suppress and "cure" bio-civs. It eventually turned up some results, but I didn't want to reveal them in case of theft, targetted attacks, general malcontent... And notStill, I p least because I didn't want to reveal something that I hadn't completed to the fullest extent yet.

Still, I published a paper, and I said that soon bio-civs would be able to reintegrate with society, become normal functional civilians. I said that I was working on a way to suppress, to give an individual a choice over whether they wanted those mutations or not. Apparently that wasn't enough for a lot of people. They said that they wanted a cure. Rival scientists published papers about how my research did nothing to alleviate the plight of genetic apocalypse, how mutant populations were still on the rise, and mutations were getting more dangerous, more malicious...

So while I was at home, reading a book and unwinding after work, I heard a car pull up outside my street. The last thing I heard before I got teleported here was slamming doors, and men shouting. I can only guess that they were there to kill me.

I guess I'm in for the long haul, huh?

OTHER GAME MECHANICS

OBJECTIVES AND GOALS

Primary Objectives (Prepare for some extremely everyman motivations).

Primary Objective: To generally just "do what comes next" in life. They came here due to the whims of some other person in a far away land, and now they're here to do something. They want to escape any discrimination against themselves and almost any groups, institutionalised or otherwise. One other major motivation is to overcome their own barriers, and discover a reason to really do anything other than basic motivations like eating and sleeping.

Minor Goals: To make a meaning out of life, and to make a good experience out of their existence. Most of their life was spent being abused in one way or another, so of course they're going to try to make up for that.

MUNDANE SKILLS

    List Mundane skills here

  • Is relatively skilled in the use of terminals such as computers and PDAs.
  • Able to find patterns that most others would not be able to, and is skilled in deductive reasoning.
  • Can perform relatively basic carpentry.

SPECIALIZED SKILLS AND TALENTS
(These are specialized skills that set you apart from the average person. You have 7 points to spend here, no more than 4 points in each skill or talent. Examples are swordsmanship, sniper, coercion, medic, spellcraft, piloting helicopter, manipulate water, etc. You must take a skill pertaining to a supernatural power if you plan to use that power.)

  • Ability 1 and Points Spent: Medical capabilities, 3 points.
  • Ability 2 and Points Spent: Carpentry, 2 points.

OPTIONAL SUPERNATURAL CHARACTERISTICS
(You have 7 points to spend here on supernatural skills or abilities, no more than 4 in each. Sonic Scream, Levitation, Shape Shifting etc. Superman MUST have his kryptonite thus weaknesses are things which inhibit the ability. Restrictions are what can't they do with their power or what balances it. They can only use it when they genuinely need it? They can't use it for more then five minutes without serious side-effects? Some things are allowed without points. A pegasus has wings thus it can fly: list wings. A raptor is fast thus no points are spent in speed: list speed and give us its stop speed. These "natural" abilities should be listed here. What isn't allowed: teleportation beyond a few feet; the ability to alter or go back/forward in time. IMPORTANT: You need a knowledge in Specialized Skills and Talents in order to work these abilities. Example: you'll need "manipulate water" to do just that, and this section is where you record what water manipulation abilities the character has.)

It eventually turned up some results, and I got teleported... Here, while I was just trying to unwind after a day at work.

I guess I'm in for the long haul, huh?

Looks good! There are a few things I'd tweak to give her a better chance at not falling through the cracks.

You should find a stronger Primary Objective. "Just do what comes next in life" translates into "I don't know what I wanna do. Meh. What do you think I should do?" We don't know what she should do. :p We can look at ways her past will influence her and form an objective from that, though.

"Advanced knowledge about biology and physics, with a level of education similar to that of a newly graduated PhD."

We know what we want to do once we get that glorious degree. Unlike liberal arts or humanities (or CS lol), we are driven to work in the field we have dedicated the majority of our adult years towards entering.

What was her dream? What did she want to accomplish after graduating? What does she really want to research for her own satisfaction?

In Cecile's case, she tasted the horror of segregation and bigotry. Perhaps her initial ambition was to find a cure that stripped mutations from bio-civs? This is like finding the cure for cancer. The longer we work towards our PhD, the more we realize we can't cure all cancer, but we can narrow our focus.

"I got a job as a lab assistant, and then as a director for a team investigating ways to suppress and "cure" bio-civs."

This is good. It's a logical flow. She's seeking to suppress and cure. She probably has a head full of virology and facts about mammalian immune systems. But then this peters out and we have her listed occupation:

"Initially, basic assault grunt with few outstanding counters or specific applications. Has potential, but limited applications for infiltration and counterintelligence."

Coupled with her flaw:

"Relatively unskilled in most basic survival tasks, has very little survival instinct, generally needing to infer danger before reacting to it, and being slow to pick up on rather normal skills. Suffers from mild schizophrenia and paranoia, with rare cases of disassociation."

This is our lab chick with the latest (for her dimension) knowledge of "Factor X" or whatever you'd like to title the mutagen that leads to the biological variations/super powers. If she's gone out on teams, she wouldn't worry about leading the military side of things. She's the one that walks forward as all the grunts back away from the thing lying prone on the floor. She's undoubtedly seen intense shit during her time in research, including the time spent working some crap assignments during a lousy internship.

That leads me to her primary objective.

"To generally just "do what comes next" in life. They came here due to the whims of some other person in a far away land, and now they're here to do something. They want to escape any discrimination against themselves and almost any groups, institutionalised or otherwise. One other major motivation is to overcome their own barriers, and discover a reason to really do anything other than basic motivations like eating and sleeping."

Passions and compassion form our objectives in life. "Do whatever comes next" is fine for a liberal arts major. But Cecile Tucker is a fierce a young woman that worked hard to master her field. The abuse from her past should help shape her objective. Finally, as a mutant, she might question the ethics involved into "curing" someone against their will. That could lead us to why Demens would choose her.

If I were to take a stab at it... (This is just an example of character development. Please do not feel obligated to use any of this!)

Her primary objective was to find a way to cure Factor X. As time passed, she began to question the reasons behind that external push. Though assigned to a team to research a cure, her personal and clandestine research focused on ways to alter the individual's system just enough to allow them to remain in control their bodies. Now her primary objective is to be a champion for the underdog, to save these individuals from persecution and death by allowing them to suppress their manifestations through pharmacology and other methods. Her compassion was her downfall, however, once her research was discovered. She became the target of a hit. Suppression wasn't an option in her society. The only good mutant was a dead mutant. (Every character enters PL moments before their scheduled death.)

The strengths and weaknesses could tie in to all the above. She has a high degree of empathy for others, having been the victim herself for so many years. She tends to throw caution to the wind when her heartstrings are tugged. She's analytical in nature, and extremely knowledgeable, but lacks some basic social skills that most adults would pick up were they not wearing little badges that marked them as a pariah.

Goals take all that in mind in order to accomplish the objective:
- continue her research in order to provide comfort
- continue to question the ethical application of any research that leads to killing innocents
- find ways to tie into underground (in her dimension) groups to have passive access to mutants in need
- deal with her own shortcomings in order to overcome her sense of loneliness

The other direction you could go would be to have her resent her mother, resent her own mutation, and seek to purge the world of mutants period. Heartless, callous, she spends her days researching cures that strip away the unique attributes of every mutant... whether they want her to or not. This wouldn't work at all in PL, though. :p

Just my two cents as a CoOP. This doesn't mean that she can't struggle with finding a meaning to her life, nor that she can't feel as though her life is lacking due to her need to continuously eat and sleep (Trust me, I know how that goes!) These are personal conflicts that can be added as emotional goals for her to overcome. Characters that come in unsure of their purpose in life, or too morose to be playable in a game where people focus on missions rather than chatting with friends... well, they tend to flounder and fade quickly.

SPECIALIZED SKILLS AND TALENTS
You'll need to spend points here to reflect her advanced training in whatever field you feel is her focus. Virology, chemical physics, whatever.

Also, because she can control her biological restructuring ability, Cer may ask her to spend some points in that here, be it a form of mental fortitude, or meditation, or some other method. This allows her to control her supernatural abilities. Don't quote me on this.

I guess my only question revolves around her enhanced internal characteristics. Is this a continuous state for her? If so, one of the downsides should be an increased absorption rate for toxins. And she'll probably forgo all her objectives and goals and dedicate her life towards convincing Demens to stock the Building with something other than sandpaper-y 2-ply TP.

/Swith rambling. I like the character, and I think you've done a good job with her. I look forward to interacting with her if she's approved. Now we just need to wait on Cer to review her app.

I added to the IC to cover things Cer & Co missed. And now, dear PLeeps, I'm going to take a few days off to recover from the flu.

The P2TM 2016 Awards are finally tallied. Just now. I've been coding it since 6 AM. Like I said in the seekret Mentor subforum, I really don't appreciate all she does for me, nor her mad analysis and coding skills. Swith - woman, you are beyond awesome.

Congrats to all the winners, but especially to those that make Personification Life an excellent RP.

There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man’s fears, and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination.

I really was quite excited and surprised when I was nominated.
But I never really imagined I would win anything so I am a little beside myself with glee.
I'm half expecting a bucket of pigs blood to fall any moment.
Thanks to all those who nominated and voted for me as well as the other PL folks.

I would like to go on to say too that I am very thankful to all those who voted for me, as well as Cer who nominated me in the first place! Words cannot accurately describe how glad I am to have joined PL almost a year and a half ago from now, this place has done me well to improve on my RPing skills and actually become more of a team player. And I say that with great pride, and all you guys here are to thank for that!

And congratulations on everyone else that got awards too! It's nice to know that PL is becoming more and more decorated with awards as the years go on, lets keep it up! :P
