Rain

The fireball had detonated beautifully on the tree, sending streams of fire pouring down the side. Something touched my arm, and I saw it was the girl from earlier. "Tsk. I'll get rid of it, one way or another. I didn't catch your name." I turned to her and extended my arm in a handshake. "I'm Rain, a cruel operator."

Wendy

I gave a salute to Rin and pumped my shotgun, loading in a shell. "Got it. We'll cover you." I nodded to Anastasia, and took a spot about halfway up the tree, leveling my shotgun at it. I hovered there, waiting for Rin to make her move.

Matthew

The streetwide-circuitry was now complete, stretching over the roads and connecting to the base of the dark tree. I stepped forward, and put my hands in the proper slots, and the metal closed around my hands, making as much skin contact as possible. A soft, slow whine was heard as electricity began to gather and charge in me and my body. Trees fall if struck by lightning, no?

Rin

She saw Wendy salute and take on a fighting stance, "Thank you," she whispered to herself. She set her gaze once again on the tree. Let's do this! she then jumped off her elevated platform. As she fell she extended the her arms toward the tree to garuntee contact. When the blade hit the tree it griped two points of the trunk and began to pull them down with her, creating a plume effect on the way down.

As watching muggles waited for a response from the tree, they were surprised to see... nothing.

Nothing was happening.

There was a deep gouge in the side of the tree where Rin had warped it, but there was no real reaction.

It just stood there, seemingly nothing but a gravestone for the angel.

"Guys, just stop." Adrien said, padding towards them. He looked tired. He felt tired.

Mihel

Mihel just arrived at the tree, taking a few moments to glance around at its victims. So many innocent people dead and for what? Mihel didn't know, he hadn't been here for the beginning of this. But he knew no possible answer would ever be satisfactory. Wisp of green energy surrounded his body, along with small distortions in space. His magic began filling the atmosphere, and with it others could sense a small bit of his emotion. Killing intent filled the air.

"What bastard did this?" He asked through gritted teeth, in barely whisper, though everyone could hear him. Murder was in his eyes and also on his mind.

He seriously considered summoning Betrayer of Heaven and Earth to destroy this tree, if only to let off some anger. But Adrien was right, he couldn't sense any active magic coming off the tree, and for now it seemed like a non threat. But still, the green wips and the distortions in space surrounding his body began to coalesce, and the flowing white and black of Yin-Yang Creation was at his fingertips. His rage was palpable, but focused. Mark his words, whoever did this will pay.

After watching nothing happen to the tree, Grace piped up in response to Rain. "Figured as much, you don't seem too interested in killing me, though." She smiled. "I'm Grace, miscrient that wanders around doing nothing in particular." She said with a nod. "And it looks like our friends over there aren't making much progress."

Anastasia

Ana floated down, calling up to Wendy and Rin. "The cat's right! If the tree was going to do something, we'd be dead by now! Let's get out of here before operators show up," she glanced over at Rain. "Well, more of them." She muttered a spell under her breath, pointing her wand in front of her. A black orb shot from it, then opened up into an ellipse, the all familiar portal.

"Anyone who wants to pop into the cafe, now's the time!" She called before leaping through the portal, landing nearly on the wooden floor.

Rin

When she ripped through the tree she left a giant scar on the trunk. I'm still not completely satisfied, but at least it's more aesthetically pleasing now. She tilted her head and giggled a bit as she looked at the tree. Her sword began to return to its original form and was no longer glowing. The platform she was standing on above the city had tuned to sand and fallen. She walked towards the people at the trunk of the torn tree, while returning her weapon to its sheath.

Ray

Nothing. All attempts to do harm towards the tree, lead to nothing. I stopped attacking and heard some cat start talking, and I walked over to it. "How do you know so much of it! Are you the cause of this!" I glared at the cat, waiting for his response.

Megan

I shook my head at Cooper. "You know what? You just stay out here while I go inside, okay?" I walked in the door and confronted the officer. "This is what happens when you don't listen!" The man looked down and nodded his head. "Well, what do you suppose we do know?" "We don't know what that...thing is or what it's gonna do. For now, we could evacuate any city blocks around." The officer nodded and started yelling at everyone else. Men should really listen to us women more often. It can get them out of tough situations.

Doopie

I didn't need to walk far, before seeing the giant black tree in the city. Holy shit! That things HUGE! I started running faster when I saw people at the ends of kinda looked like branches.

Kyle winced as the ground shook, several times, actually. There were many screams outside, which gave it away that something bad was happening. He pulled a tablet out of his larger pocket, turning it on and navigating through several screens. Suddenly, he had a few screens of security camera feed.

The hospital, which was in ruins, a traffic camera, which showed the tree, and other ones that didn't have much. He slid it back into his pocket, drawing his sidearm. "I think that's something we should check out, yeah?" He got up, moving for the door.

Adelaide gave Kyle an unconvinced look, "It looks like a bloodbath. All very unfortunate. Do you think it has anything to do with your current contract?"

It wasn't that Adelaide was entirely lacking in compassion but the thought of running into a war zone didn't really appeal to her, "That place will be crawling with Ops and police; Not somewhere it is traditionally safe for a magical to hang around in, plus I don't think the people there will be in much of a position to offer us a contract." there was a pause before she added, "I mean, I'm happy to check it out..."

"You're not very bright, are you?" Adrien asked, looking at the cat-eared man with a smirk of disdain. "If I were in any way responsible for this shitshow, do you honestly think I'd be retarded enough to not only hang around the area, but directly interact with the idiots who tried to stop me? I mean, granted, you all failed spectacularly, but still. Give my intelligence a little credit, won't you?"

He slunk off down the street, tail twitching in irritation. However, before he could make it far, he turned to face him once more.

"And by the way, I'll have you know that my blood is red, not black, as I'm sure you may have noticed from this beauty right here." He said, nudging his head to his side, where a large gash had been gouged from the falling rubble. "Besides, if it were me, I'd use my wind magic. Way cleaner, more dignified, you know?"

Then he turned around once again, sighing.

"Anyway, I'm going to go back to the cafe to get that rest I was promised. I'll tell you all what I know later."

"A friend." Adelaide corrected, " well sort of a friend and probably a lot less friendly if I cast a spell... but unlike some mages I don't rely on spells to stay alive in a fight. I'll be fine, I'm more worried about getting paid."

She stood up as she spoke, moving to retrieve her jacket - it was clear she was coming, even if she might grumble a bit about working for free (she had bills to pay after all), "I don't suppose your contact is also willing to contribute for services rendered?"

Rain

Rain looked back at the tree and found it now adorned a large gash running down the side, yet it stood still despite the attacks rained down upon it. "Eh. We'll get rid of it eventually." Wait, what? We? We as in the magicals and I? We as in the Ops? What? The thought that he would be working with magicals seemed laughably absurd, and so he started laughing out loud. Good for you, Rain, laughing in the face of public tragedy.

Matthew

Matthew had stopped gathering electricity when Adrien showed up. He stepped out from his "shock station", but left it as it was just in case. He started to follow Adrien back to the cafe with an awkward silence. "Well, hopefully the cafe didn't get trashed.

Wendy

Wendy landed next to Rin, and her wings and shotgun fell away with a sparkle of glitter. "Well, that was anticlimactic. Wanna head back to the shop? Oh, I don't think I got your name! I'm Wendy!" She put her hand out jovially for a handshake, despite all the death that had just happened.

Rin

She turned to Wendy who was holding her hand out. "My name is Rin, what's yours?" she asked as she took her hand and shook it. With the tree behind her with its branches impaling muggles she still smiled as bright as the sun. What shop? There is a magical friendly shop in this city?

Grace

After watching the crazed operator laugh a bit excessively, Grace turned to the sound of helicopters. She grabbed his arm, yanking him to the side a little. "Hey, you ever need anyone to help you, give me a call." She whipped a small business card out of nowhere, just saying 'Grace' followed by her phone number. She took a step back, falling through the ground. The shadow portal underneath her disappeared shortly after, Grace appearing in her room moments later.

Kyle

Kyle murmured something in response to Adelaide, but said it offhandedly. He held his right palm out, a small screen appearing before he swiped it into the air. It was a large map, an arrow marking him and a line leading through the city to the site of the tree. It quickly became some sort of HUD for the two, it only being visible to them. Perks of being a technomancer. He adjusted his cost and moved for the door, "You ready?" He asked.

Cooper

Cooper ducked inside the police station a second time, this time moving over to Megan directly. "Psst!" He whispered, not too secretive. "Hey, I think I just saw some of those operators!" He whispered to her, "And if you don't wanna die, we should leave, now!" He was panicked, more so than he'd been before. He looked around, yelping quietly as some of the remaining cops glared at him.

Maxwell

The cop had regeared and headed straight for the city. He was going to act as though nothing had happened, and that was indeed the way it seemed. The car passed Matthew and the cat as it zipped for the city. In a couple of minutes, he stopped a little ways away from the big tree. His first instinct was to run away, but nothing was happening. "Officer approaching the scene now, stand by." He called into his walkie-talkie. Then he spotted Wendy and Rin.

"Freeze!" He called, pistol leveled with their heads. He recognized Wendy, if only slightly, but shoved that thought aside. They had something to do with this, and he'd take them down for it.

So, is it over? i gUesS sO! Well, alright then. Might as well go back to the cafe too! I realized the cat had left and I quickly followed behind the cat. Wonder where Megan is? yOu dOn'T rEmEmBeR? I have lost all sense right now! A magical that hurts muggles... wonder they did to piss that guy off! Or is it a female? As I followed the cat I saw an officer approach Wendy and Rin. Oh, that officer! Better if I don't go near any officer... not after the hospital! Sorry in advance, Wendy! Which reminds me, I need to get the medication from Doopie! wHaT mEdIcAtIoN? You're not fooling me!

Megan

I gave Cooper another look before picking him up. "Well, we're leaving anyway." I started walking out of the police station then I turned my head. "Well, you should send officers or something to the scene! Maybe then you'll find who's responsible." Totally not withholding any information! I walked out with Cooper in my arms. "You really need to be more secretive about what you say. Anyway, what about the operators?"

Doopie

I kept running until I tripped over air. Still drunk I see! I got up and sat down on the conveniently placed bench that was next to me. I looked around and saw double of everything. I should sit down. I blinked a couple times and saw that I was sitting on the bench in front of the cafe. "God..." I looked around and saw a cat coming towards the cafe followed by Matthew and Ray. "Hey, Guys! Did you guys see the big black tree?"

Rin

She saw the police officer point his gun at them and immediately lost her bright smile. "I would like it if you didn't point that at me," she slowly began approaching the cop. She wasn't moving in an aggressive manor, but her expression was quite the opposite. "Isn't only polite to ask questions before threatening two girls?" She had stoped moving just as she passed Wendy. She tilted her head, "please, explain why you are pointing you gun at us?"

Cooper wiggled from her grasp, plopping on the ground with a grunt. "I'm no lap dog, lady!" He growled under his breath before speaking up about the operators. "Two, funky clothes and everything. They're headed for the tree." He said. It wasn't very clear that he knew what operators looked like at all, actually, and he may have just seen a swat team.

Maxwell flinched as she stepped forward. He probably knew who they were already. "I said freeze!" He shouted again, a little bolder. His gun was pointed at the girl, which he'd quickly throw down had she been ordinary. He only hoped that Wendy wouldn't recognize him and point out his affliction, that or a forced change.

Wendy

Wendy coughed, bringing in her two cents. "What she means, officer, is how can we help you?" She looked at Rin, and passed a "shut up if you want to live" look, hoping it would take, considering the man with a gun in front of them.

Rain

"Um, okay." He took the card and watched as she disappeared into the ground. Two cards in one night, this is a record! He looked up and squinted at the helicopters that she had mentioned, and actually.... Now it seemed there was quite the police presence here. He patted himself down for a radio, pulled it out, and speaking to no one or channel in particular, "I'm on the scene, I've got it covered." After that, he kind of walked around, trying to look busy.

Kyle

Kyle did indeed lead on. He turned a few corners, waltzed over some debris, and boom. They were there. The first things he noticed were the paramedics' triage center, the cop pointing a gun at two adolescents, the helicopters overhead, and;

"Operator over there," Kyle said, the small map shutting down immediately, but not before the damage was done. Rain would likely be able to sense that bit of magic and triangulate it quickly, Kyle took some time to cool it down. He ducked into an alley immediately, scaring a couple rats off. He looked to Adelaide, "Think you could talk your way out of this?" He asked. "Maybe say we got into a tustle with a suspicious guy?"

He gritted his teeth. He knew all about manipulation, although it was obscured by his panick. "You're under arrest for--" he nudged his head in the direction of the tree, "Whatever the hell that is." He kept his gun trained on the two. But if one were to look closely, or at least be savvy with magical creatures, they'd see those amber eyes that flickered for a brief moment.

Adelaide had been suppressing her powers since she left her front door. It was generally what she did when she ventured out. She glanced at Kyle from beneath raised eyebrows, "Of course I can talk my way out of this although if I were you I'd keep out of sight for a few minutes."

Shoving her hands into the front pockets of her jeans she made a bee-line straight for Rain as if nothing out of the ordinary had happened, "Heya!" She called, "You're looking... suspiciously well recovered. I would accuse you of faking your injuries if I hadn't sewn you up myself... so what's going on? Any chance there's a paying job in all of this?"

Wendy

"Of course I got this." She said to Rin, and looked back to the officer. "Arrest? For the tree?" She looked back at the tree with a look of confusion as if it had just shown up. "What's the evidence? We just got here..." She frowned, Is that panic in his voice? Why's he so jittery? "...Is everything alright?" She asked.

Rain

"Heya!" Rain looked up, almost startled, when he realised it was Adelaide coming out of nowhere. "Tsk. Well recovered only because that thing couldn't aim half the time... Paying job? Hmm. Well, there's a rampant mass murderer that just walked away unscathed. He's got a sort of mask, not like mine, but like white, with some weird robes. Cultist, if you ask me." He grinned at the next part, as it was sure to pique her interest. "Information on this dude would probably pay a hefty sum."

Maxwell

Max closed his eyes for a couple moments before speaking again, "E-everything is just fine." Everything was not fine. He took a few steps towards them, slow and shaky. "You're going to be investigated, coming into a crime scene." He said, "Unless you've got an alibi, you're not getting out of here."

He sounded a little more determined, but the monster inside him squirmed a bit, causing him to stagger before he regained his footing. It knew that these were poor little girls, although that was wrong. These poor little girls could probably end him easily if they wanted to.

Adelaide cocked her head to one side, considering this, "Mass murdering magical?" she asked, though she didn't wait for a reply. Rain wouldn't be here if it wasn't a magical, "Why does that not surprise me?"

There was a flash of anger that passed across her features. People like this cultist were the reason she had to hide what she was, the reason that she had to be careful around Rain, "So I'm guessing it would pay even more if I brought him in, alive or slightly less alive?" she suggested, "Because I could really do with a nice cash float... and I'm sure it would be more personally fulfilling to get paid for taking down a terrorist rather than taking pictures of someone's cheating husband."
