Day Seven Ends

More villages of those abandoned by their gods to starvation and death collapse, followers scattering to the four winds as decay overtakes settlements and springs dry up to leave husks of fruitful bushes baking on the dry breeze. The tribes of Luna and Datyx are no more...

Ninsar

The assault on Korinith's village begins shortly after dawn, six followers of Ninsar raiding to seize valuable food from the nearby berry bushes and the timber stockpile. [6] [10] [5] [8] [7] [2] Two of the followers of Korinith are struck to the earth [8->10] [1] but one rises again, seemingly none the worse for wear. [5] [9] [9] Two of the folk of Ninsar are also stricken down as the people of Korinith defend their homes [4] [1] and have to be carried from the field by their comrades. Despite their superior numbers, the people of Ninsar are driven back by the ferocity of the Stalwarts of Korinith, and return home empty handed...

This proves to be the last straw for the villagers of Korinith though. Under assault by outside forces, and with their own having starved so recently, they go their separate ways as the spring finally dries up. Though their dwelling is collapsed and their fruit bushes barren, their Timber may still be retrieved by other tribes.

The Asagal, Godshome

Istvan embraced the young slip of a woman that was Maria, the chosen follower to go beyond the horizon and see what there was to see of the world. Her humble woven rucksack was full of food for the journey, and the entire tribe had turned out to wish her safe passage between sky and earth. Overhead the scudding clouds were whipped along by a merry breeze that played in the fields of grain and the low fruit bushes, dappled shadows rippling across the green vistas of Godshome.

"May the grace of the Lord of the Earth go with you, chosen" he said, releasing the young brunette woman to shoulder her pack. About him the rest of the tribe echoed his words. They felt right, for the people of the tribe knew that Maerios watched over them, and would not let Maria come to harm. It had been the god's inspiration for her to journey so far in the first place, his touch that had come to her in a dream and given her the visions of far lands where she would walk. Two days journey was farther than any of the Maenads had ever sojourned from the comforts of home and hearth, but she bore with her small fire-rocks and kindling to keep back the chill of night. Maria would be as safe as one could be in this still pleasant country.

As she set off to the south and west, the tribesmen turned back to their tasks. The bounty of golden grain needed harvesting, after all, and with the hovel that was the tribe's home now beginning to feel too crowded to be borne, there was work to be done to erect new structures that might give couples and friends room to breath anew. Some of the men of the village had considered the low brick wall of the north-east, that looked towards the other tribes of Mara, and considered how perchance these bricks might be put to use erecting a dwelling for the growing tribe. Surely they would be as sturdy as the strange thick-grass that made up the current hut, if they were mounded correctly.

Iyo

The Morning Star, in all its stark whites and moody blues was about to rise. As the twinkling eye-of-the-star-goddess began to peak above the horizon, she cast piercing spears of starlight down on the Earth. The effulgent harpoons danced and glittered upon the Starry Pool. Water by starlight was a true wonder of nature.

She could here the chants of the Starsingers, this was a new one, about the berries of sustenance.

...The bloodberry red,
Star on berry-bush sky,
That which was given,
By the first star,
Our grandfather,
The Spark,
Great ancestor,
Let us sing in your glory...

Iyo left the Starry Pool and went to the berry grove just outside of her village. The sweet succour of nature dwindled. Iyo put her hands together and began to chant one of the ancient cantatas she had learned once long ago in the primal chaos of the before-times. Her chants stimulated the barren bushes. From their branches they began to bear fruit, quickly regrowing to full, ripe and red berries.

From the grove of fruit she went south of the Starry Pool. Iyo surveryed the great grassy sea, in all its windy majesty and primal nature. With her divine vision she could see way beyond the plains, to the forests and other villages. The Starsingers would meet the others, with their false idols and spears. Their faith and kindness would be their shields, and their divine femme would be their warrior in silk.

Ninsar, Day 8

It's a sad day when the sick must work. Unfortunately, this is exactly what happened in the tribe of Ninsar. Unfortunately, there simply isn't enough healthy people to do all the work that is necessary. The sick were forced to walk over to berry bushes, with mucus dripping from their noses and no food in their bellies. Their approach to berry bushes looked similar to a trail of tears, and Ninsar saw this. It saddened her to see this. To try to help her people, Ninsar began devising a plan, one that would provide them with enough food to make the sick healthy. The current goal was to work toward a stone quarry for all the people, but now it's starting to look like that may take a while. She could help the starving, but that would delay the construction of the workshop by a very long time.

Hmm, a difficult call to make. In light of this, nothing had to be decided today. The decision could be delayed until tomorrow, when some time could be used to think things over. Major decisions like this shouldn't be rushed. However, with people starving en masse, maybe they should. It should also be considered how this decision would affect the allies of Ninsar. Would they turn and leave her behind? Would they lose faith in the project? Only time would tell, but Ninsar continued growing in power, helping her no matter what path she chooses.

Ninsar, day 9

The sick followers of Ninsar were recovering, though not as fast as they could before. The sick would remain that way for at least one more day, and the healthy could not be assured their health would stay. There was enough food for the sick, but perhaps not enough for the healthy. It was a sad turn of events, but nothing could be done, at least not yet. Meanwhile, the people prayed and worshiped Ninsar, asking her to delay the construction of the workshop. Ninsar was unhappy by this request, but she was not one to hurt her followers. Using their prayers and worship, Ninsar adopted a new power, one to make berry bushes regrow their fruit instantly!
An astounding development, though one wonders if the expense is worth it.

The Asagal, Godshome

As the cracking bricks of mixed earth and straw lay out in the sun, Tavos laved his hands in a rivulet of the stream and washed away the caked red earth and streams of sweat, splashing a small grass bowl's worth of water over his back. The cool clear spring had never ceased to give the life-giving liquid that the tribe needed to survive, and the Maenads frequently took that as a sign of Maerios' divine favor even when the god was silent, for they had seen the water sources of other tribes dry up and their huts collapse in hot winds. This was not the lot of the inhabitants of the tribe of Asagal though, the Everrock, the name by which the Maker had called them even though they knew not its meaning yet.

The mud-bricks were valuable, and so the people of the tribe worked more with them, the sun-dried casts filled from clay pits and prepared for use in building. No tribes now lived near the Maenads, most having fled for greener pastures or having chosen to settle in the north, where the Great God told his chosen that the forests of giants gave them many materials to build with. This was a hindrance that Istvan and his fellows felt keenly, for without timbers to erect dwellings in the way they knew of old, expanding the housing of the tribe was all but impossible. Still, many thoughts had been inspired by the construction of the Drying Grounds, and the building materials created there may yet be the key to that particular problem.

Three Followers harvest one (5) berry bush, and one patch of wheat.
One Explorer continues to journey south and west.
Five Followers erect a Totem to the south and west of the tribe's main home.
One Follower continues to think on the nature of building with bricks.

Museus, Day 9

As if beckoned from the spirit world by divine intervention, Museus deigned to appear to his followers again. Oh, how his absence had made the heart grow fonder! His people were waiting for him, the patient fingers on his hand that rest on the skin of the world day to day. He hoped that one day, they would learn to work as one with him, but no! Still, they struggled to do more than beat with the blood of fruit juices running from their lips, weakly praying to their lord with neither meaning nor message to their actions.

And so Kovenantos took the face of their lord to speak! Their supplies of food were dwindling, but Museus would provide! They had to their name the beginnings of irrigation furrows, that they would today bring to the first half. With the eyes and lips of Kovenantos, they heard issuing forth their own consciousness - "Behold me, my hand, I speak again! See the waters that flow from mother Earth, I speak to her to give new life! You shall bring form to her body, that I may provide the food you need!" A tree had already been felled, giving its body to the growing form that was Museus' body of the people and the places. Now the people worked to have voice issue from mother Earth, to feed the fruit that was the beating heart of Museus' human bodies.

Actions:
2 to gather fruit.
3 to begin working on irrigation furrows (5/10 labour, 1/1 timber).
If I can't play bass, I don't want to be part of your revolution.

Eru, Day 9

Postby Walrusvylon » Sun Jan 22, 2017 8:38 pm

The sun was just peeking over the horizon when Eru woke his five followers from their slumber, eager to guide them towards their destiny.
"Wake up!" he urged them. Now, what do humans require? he thought to himself. Ah, yes, they require food to eat! "I know that you are hungry, and thus you shall gather as many berries as you can from the bushes," he ordered three of them. What else do humans require? he thought once again. Of course, they will need my wisdom! "I shall impart you with some of my knowledge, and you shall ponder this, and use it devise new technologies," he told another one of his followers. "You shall pray to me, in order to increase my power," he commanded the other two. His followers scurried off to perform their various tasks, seeking to please their god.

3 followers gather berries.
1 follower generates innovation.
2 followers pray.

Day Nine Ends

Image

The sun sets again, as it has for over a week now upon the teeming tribes of Godshome and Mara. With its passing pass too several tribes abandoned by silent gods, their prayers falling on ears of stone and their faith rewarded only with inaction. The villages of Ardruil and the Omnissiah are soon no more, their people scattered to the wind as springs dry up and food sources fail, seeking desperately for new faiths to call their own.

Maerios

Far to the south and west, beyond where men had walked before, the solitary Explorer from the tribe of Maerios comes across a sight she had never viewed before- a solitary tower of wood and giant grass-leaves, standing taller than many men, its trunk as thick as a man's span and too wide around to encircle with arms. This must be a tree, one of the things the Architect had spoken of to her elders when commissioning the exploration to come. An interesting discovery indeed.

Ninsar, Day 10

Seeing a new tribe forming nearby made Ninsar happy. While steady progress was being made toward the workshop, if another tribe was kind enough to contribute any amount of labor toward the workshop, it would be very beneficial towards the construction as a whole. Even if it meant having to share the workshop with others, it didn't matter. The results would be worth having to share the workshop a bit. The followers of Eru, as they're called, were relatively close by. Surely it wouldn't be too difficult for them to contribute a few manhours to building the workshop. To contact them, Ninsar ordered an emissary of hers to visit their tribe and make the proposal.

The emissary, a woman by the name Lola, visits the tribe following the God Eru. She enters their grounds, attempting to look as nonthreatening as possible. There, she met with a group of tribesmen and gathered their attention, saying "Excuse me, I come from a tribe northwest of here, and I come with a proposal. In my tribe, we are constructing a workshop, a grand building that will allow us all to modernize our tribes, and usher in a new era of prosperity! We would love to give you free access to the workshop when it is complete, but for us to be able to do that, we'll need your help in construction. If you could donate any amount of labor to the project, we can promise you access to the facility upon completion. Can you help us?"

Regeneration spell restores berries to the berry bush in the east (-8 faith), 1 follower chops 1 tree (contributes to workshop, 4/4 timber), 1 follower collects berries to the east, 5 followers contribute labor to the workshop (8/15), 1 sick follower prays

Eru, Day 10

Postby Walrusvylon » Mon Jan 23, 2017 9:40 am

Eru's followers did not respond to Lola right away, as they were awaiting their instructions from him.
An interesting proposal, thought Eru. I had already been planning to build a workshop, but seeing that a workshop is already being built in a neighboring village, it would be logical to contribute to it in exchange for its use. "You shall go with this strange woman, and assist her tribe in building their workshop," he ordered two of his followers.
Hearing this, one of Eru's followers by the name of Larry responded to Lola: "Our god has granted us permission to assist you with the construction of your workshop," he said. Larry had bright blue eyes and a squarish face, as well as long, blond beard and a handlebar mustache. Larry was Eru's most trusted follower, and was in charge of the others, for Eru saw that Larry desired to serve him above all else. Like the rest of his tribe, he wore a simple white tunic.
The other follower that had been ordered to help construct the workshop joined Larry, and they prepared to depart with Lola. Once they had departed, Eru had decided what his other followers would do.
"You shall collect berries from the bushes, but from different bushes than the ones you collected from yesterday," he instructed three of his followers. "You shall worship me, and thus increase my power," he commanded the other two. They once again scurried off to carry out their instructions.

2 followers help to construct the workshop.
3 followers gather berries.
2 followers worhsip Eru.

The Pillar of the Asagal, Godshome

Maria had returned, and the village rejoiced, for some had worried that to journey so far from the village that Maerios had blessed might be to invite disaster. She had made the journey without incident though, and the tribesmen gathered around the communal fire to hear her tell of the immense giant that graced the region far from their homeland. Istvan nodded wisely. As the good god Maerios had spoken to him, so Maria had found; wonders where the gods could not see, valuable pieces of the nature the spark had made which its children could steward for their own edification upon Mara.

More important though were the living conditions of the tribe, for now. With ample bricks available to build with, and the quarters of the solitary tribal kraal packed to the brim, more places for new recruits or the will of creation to manifest upon were certainly necessary; food troubled the people of the Asagal little with Maerios' power of regeneration watching over them and the husbanded fields of golden wheat ready for the reaping, and so the greater concern was the desire of couples for children, and of lonely men and women for a mate to call their own. Many folk worked down at the brickyard this day, for the laborers there felt they were closer to a breakthrough in their carefully tested brick-building patterns, a structure which could stand on its own and provide shelter from wind and rain and keep in the heat of fires in times of cold.

Five men stood proudly beneath the Great Tree of Mara. Five men, all dressed in the most festive clothes they could make, waited solemnly for their Protector. Their face covered by clays and paints, their feet was encircled by serpents of wild vines and dried flowers. They were the acolytes of The Great Tree, the servants of Syigaroh, and for Their command they waited. Among the haze of early morning, the wind blew slowly, rattling the branches and leaves of Syigaroh. The rattling soon harmonize into

Day Ten

The Goddess rejoiced at the completion of the Drying Ground. Her people were becoming industrious and prosperous despite their small size and isolation, no one other god's followers had contacted them - which was fine by Iyo, less to worry about.

She went to the Drying Grounds. Upon the bare earth she began to dance under the blue moonlight, rejoicing in the splendor of all creation. As she courante'd and allemande'd the Starsingers came out of their hut and began to sing to the Morning Star. Her form began to collapse and into a small white rabbit she transformed. She hopped away quickly from the Drying Grounds and into the gentle tentacles of the great grass sea.

The Starsingers continued their chorus.

...Mother on high,
Warden of the stars,
Owl, rabbit, crane, woman,
Bless this day which dawns,
And the night which falls,
Sanctify the indigo rise,
The pale twilight,
And the dark fall,
And let the night lack terrors,
Let the stars illuminate our way through the darkness...

After the day was done, and as everyone was about to sleep, there was a great exclamation from the Starpool. "I've done it!" cried Palasqyn, the one charged with the creation of the voicegrass. It seemed all the prayers and experiments had payed off, and the goddess' tears and sacrifice would come to fruition.

After having seen raids on other villages, Iyo had commanded a wall to be built - not specifically stating why, just that their could be danger. she instructed the Starsingers to be kind to any who ventured to the village. It was better to be safe than story.

Two followers pray.
Two followers pick four berries each.
One follower works in the drying field.

Day One, for me anyway...

I rouse myself from the grasp of sleep, causing the pool to ripple slightly, as well as bubble. So yeah, it's me Ieg Aez'taroth, or Ieg for short. No no, not Leg you silly morals reading this dialog. Anyway... I am the black sheep in the group of gods, or should I be a black goat? Is that a joke? Kwahahahahahaha... Ha, as I am not of his blood, I am highly shunned by the others, dammit... I hate them all. Great, now I am sad again, thanks bipolar disorder. Hahahahaha...

(3rd Person POV)

The pool has stopped rippling, and a light gray swirl is seen, and but a moment later a group of five people manage to enter the vaguely subterranean yet still hard to access pools Ieg resided in. "Possible first followers?" a faint monotonous voice resonates through the place, which chill the group. "Don't be afraid..." begins the voice of Ieg again, and the pool turns from brownish murky to purely transparent water to the mortals, "I am your god, do not fear me.". This alone causes the group to kneel in reverence, "No need for that," he says, propping the people up so that they stood, and then he made them drink his very being, the water, "I have blessed you, you and your children and their children's children and beyond are able to wade in my pools.", "With my water I shall bless whoever comes to me, protect who adores me, and smite the one who dares to defile you." he begins, and his people shout praise. "You are my chosen, spread the word my chosen, for you are not to be silenced, you are Vengir!" he booms, "Bring death to who defile you!"

One leaves the place with ease shouting "Ia Ieg! I am Vengir!", and begins wandering off, in search of food, and perhaps a non believer to convert or smash into a bloody pulp. The rest however, begin erecting small mounds of rocks covered with dirt, and begin to wetten said mound with Ieg's water, they then begin chanting. Chant chant chant! Hear them chant! "Ia Ieg Ia Ieg!".

Meanwhile the wanderer nears the south for food, picking up a fist sized rock in the process. He wondered what human flesh tastes like nowadays, that train of thought in the wanderer was quite active, maybe he should beat others to bloody pulps and share their meat with the others? It was a disturbing but tempting idea.

4 followers pray/praise Ieg, 1 wanders around for food, armed with a fist sized rock.

Day 2

A sixth villager, who was part of the earlier group, but stayed outside the place, was currently tailing the wandering villager, which had found a berry bush. Meeting at said berry bush(two squares below my place, one if below my spring), they began gleaning it of its contents. The two villagers glean three berries each, and the armed villager gives his fellow villager his berries, and said villager now holding all berries runs back to home, while the armed one runs off again, arriving at a odd place(four squares below my base, square with white on map near tree grove, totem?). Ignoring said place, he goes to work felling a tree in a nearby grove beside the place, due to his work earlier at those bushes, he only finishes halfway, another villager then arrives, helping him finish the job and the tree falls as a result. The rest of the villagers however, begin working on a hoe, its construction taught to them by Ieg. One however, still prays.

Villagers:
2 villagers glean three berries each, both run the opposite directions, homeward and southward. Southward villager arrives at odd place(totem?), begins cutting tree(0.1/1). 1 villager arrives to help him out(1.1/1). 2 work on totem(2/5|if finished, will be brought out of home and placed in a proper area), and 1 prays. Homeward bound villager eats a single berry and throws its seeds all around, then arrives at home.

The Asagal, Godshome

Near to the south of the fields of golden grain, the folk from the village of the Maenads were hard at work. Their lord had revealed to them the secrets of building with brick, to erect sturdy waddle dwellings shielded by dry thatch that would keep out the elements just as well as stacked wooden logs. With the need for more places to sleep and areas to live, most of the tribe had been mobilized for that purpose; indeed, all save those members who were gathering food and the sojourning Maria exerted themselves towards the chosen task.

Maerios walked among them, invisible, pleased with their work. As backs bent to labor beaded over with sweat in the hot sun, tanned hides soaking up the rays of the celestial body even as they carefully stacked mortared brick on mortared brick, the Divine contemplated how best he might help these people. His own strength was still little compared to that of some of the other spirits that roamed Mara, but that troubled him only when he bent his thoughts thither. In their quiet isolation, here away from the bustling forests of the north, the Maenads had prospered and thrived by their own ways with little save guidance from their invisible lord.

It was good, and though the coming of new spirits and tribes to Godshome gave the Architect some cause for concern, he would not mention it to his faithful.

Seven Followers contribute labor and three Mud Bricks to the Hovel being erected near the camp. [7/10 Labor, 3/3 Mud Bricks]

Nufteus & the Grand Beginning
Otherwise Known As Day No. 11

He stared at the small hut and the busy hive that had seemingly sprung up overnight. He'd watched that too, his people had become adept at traveling and rebuilding that hut wherever they went. He was thankful he'd led them in the seemingly right direction. Here--in these vast rolling plains and forests he would build his empire of trade and innovation. Unfortunately for him and his other siblings, the corpse seemed to be here too. His typically bemused face went sour for a moment at the thought. Nufteus (Nuft to his friends,) gave a brief breath, and started down the slight rise towards the hut, gently placing his hand his beloved blade--Stygian Crescendo--he had only the slightest doubt he would have to use it today. But, where the corpse was, war is inevitable. But for now, Nuft would try to make about peacefully. Starting with setting his villagers up with some rudimentary infrastructure. And food. Food was also important. The walk was brief, and soon he stood in front of the...modest hovel hut. As was their tradition, the five bowed slightly to the well-clad Nufteus (or, as they referred to him, Mi'lord Nuft,) and in return, he bowed to them, clutching his luxurious cap save it fall into mud. He rose, and a smile between his subjects and their patron erupted on both sides of the exchange. "Must we do that every time, friends?" Nufteus exclaimed in exasperation as he cordially clasped hands with the man who went by Theo.

"Of course we must, mi'lord, 'tis the way things are," Theo responded, releasing the immortal's hand before taking the slightest of steps back, "What can we do for you on this fine day, mi'lord?" He proceeded to inquire, raising a single eyebrow at the divine as the rest of the group wandered back to whatever menial task was at hand. Theo and Nuft had become fast friends on the brief journey that brought them here after all, and it was best to let the rapport grow.

"Well, my dear comrade," Nufteus wrapped his arm across the slightly taller and more robust man, swinging him around to face the field of wheat. "Beyond this here golden sea, lies my brother and his people, the Maenads. They are a great deal more... shall we say, established in these parts, and it would be a shame to cause hostilities between us. Maerios has always been a bit of a chum of mine, so I expect we have little to fear from him. However," he swung about again, this time towards the disgustingly sweet stench of decay and death, "Thataway lies another brother of mine--the corpse--he and I have... had some rather fiery disagreements about a number of philosophical facts. Be wary my friend, for he is nothing less than death itself." He turned the man once more, this time facing a silhouette of a person in the distance, "And thataway lies another soul in dire need of rescue. Dispatch one of ours to bring them in and give them a full stomach. If they decide to stay, all power to 'em. Next, I suggest you find a way to keep your food from going stale--it would be a shame for you to lose much of your food overnight to the rot. I leave the rest to you, I'm off to say hello to my dear brother Mae-Mae now, ensure these tasks are done, and I'll see to it we both prosper in a wonderfully wealthy way." With that, Nufteus released the stout man, gave an overly-dramatic bow, and went on his way through the golden sea of wheat to visit his beloved brother Maerios.
