Humanity Reborn
Is their anyone out there? Are we alone? Questions that humans can't help but ask. Humans have a desire to discover the unknown and to answer any and all questions they have. Even if they do not like the answers that they find. In this case, humanity did not find the answer. The answer came to them, in the form of the High Overlord.
In the year 2047, humans have finally established a stable colony on Mars, though still small, it was there. On the Earth, things were starting to get crowded, not to mention tense. The world was on the brink of war, and the UN had been long dissolved. The smallest spark would have been enough to drag the world into the largest war ever seen by the eyes of man. But the most important thing had to do with a very specific organization.
Arch Angel Industries was at the time the worlds largest and most powerful organization. It had it's own private military, and it's own territory through out the world. They had brought many advances to humanity and also acted as mediators between many nations. One could say that the reason the world had yet to burn was Arch Angel. In the year 2047, Arch Angel picked up a strange signal from the edge of our solar system. They had no idea what it was, but knew this one thing, it was slowly approaching. In response to the signal, Arch Angel sent a probe and prepared to activate a orbital defense system that they developed back in 2034 and used only once in 2036 to protect the earth from a certain asteroid.
The probe made it's way to the source of the signal but before anyone knew it, the probe simply vanished. Everyone assumed it was destroyed, and the world began to panic. Tensions rose even higher. Arch Angel tried their best at keeping the world calm, while also preparing for the worse. But only a few months since the signal was detected, it was lost. It entered the asteroid belt and disappeared. A year passed. Nothing. Two years. Nothing. The world slowly started to calm down. And by 2053, the world had all but forgot about the strange signal. But not Arch Angel.
Arch Angel kept preparing. But they would not see the day they were preparing for. In 2055, the home of the CEO of Arch Angel burnt to the ground, with the CEO inside. His body was never found. This marked the end of Arch Angel, as when the new year came, Arch Angel fell. It's head office, and locations across the world where destroyed within minutes of each other. The world was in shock. But this shock did not last long. A week later, the signal returned, this time, over Mars.
Before anyone knew it, the colony on Mars was destroyed and the signal was approaching the Earth. Chaos erupted. And they came out of the shadows. Whisper. An organization that had always existed in the shadows, with the sole purpose of taking over the world, and remaking it as they saw fit. Whisper came, they saw, and they created the spark. The spark that finally caused the world to be enveloped in a war. As the world entered into a war, they forgot about the signal. The signal had stopped moving, remaining behind the moon. It was as if it was watching and waiting.
The war raged, some countries being wiped completely of the map. One third of the worlds population was eliminated, and that was when the source of the signal became known. It was seen in the sky, a massive space ship. It slowly approached the earth, and humanity stopped fighting each other. They stopped fighting each other long enough to watch as their governments fell and the world fell into the grasp of a being known as the High Overlord. This High Overlord sent his forces. His forces where not living though. Everything that came down from the ship was robotic.
Unknown to the world, but back when the signal was first discovered, Whisper made contact by taking over the Arch Angel drone, and made a deal with the High Overlord after they learned the nature of his being. The High Overlord was a conqueror, as such, he was constantly conquering planets, and needed people loyal to him to rule. A deal was struck, Whisper would rule the Earth for the High Overlord, and the High Overlord would continue to become stronger. So, the High Overlords forces where joined with Whisper. By time the years was up, the broken world was in the hands of the High Overlord.
It was then things started to change. The worlds population had dropped to levels that had not been seen since 1 AD or 1 CE. The world's population was now about 170 million. The High Overlord had all remaining humans gathered into ten clusters of about 17 million all over the world. These would slowly be developed into massive cities. Areas around the cities where slowly reclaimed by nature, or remained barren wastelands poisoned by radiation. The way of keeping track of the years was changed. 2055 was to be the last year referred to as AD or CE, now was AC (After Conquest).
By 10 AC, the High Overlords control had been stabilized. The cities had an established hierarchy, and there were no rebel groups (at least not open). As such, the High Overlord departed, but not without leaving a large number of his robots behind, and giving powers to those who aided him. Yes, that's right, the High Overlord was able to give powers to humans. All hope for rebellion was gone. And so the High Overlord left, and humanity was left in the hands of the new powered up leaders of Whisper.
In 32 AC, Whisper official dissolved as the ten cities started to become more and more like independent city states.
In 57 AC, a very strange explosion of unknown energy was detected above both the Earth's poles.
In 142 AC, powers started to appear in all classes but remain rare, fear and hope of rebellions starts to rise.
In 143 AC, laws are passed, forcing all powered people not in the upper class to be registered.
The year is 165 AC, and the world is changing.
Suphia, North Entrance
2:00 AM
Suphia's north entrance, one of the four entrances from the outside to the underdome. Like the other four, it was heavily defended. On the ground, armed human soldiers, each one either pissed someone off or just got the short end of the stick in order to get stuck with this shift but never the less they patrolled and stood guard. In the air, drones made with tech given to the Overlords from the High Overlord himself patrolled. Eyes were on the ground, as well as the sky. Auto sentries where scanning the sky assisted by searchlights that were pointed to the sky.
Despite the almost panicked prison appearance, there was no worry in looking for someone who had left, it was more they where more focused on making sure no one got in. Since the appearance of the Arch Angel, the cities have been on alert more than normal. But this alertness would not stop the Arch Angel, as those on guard would learn shortly.
Not far from the gate, standing on a ridge watching the gate stood the number one enemy of the Overlords. The Arch Angel. After a few moments of standing there it took the sky. It approached the gate fast. Fast enough that in one second, it appeared floating their above the ground only a few feet from the gate. Weapons turned on it and opened fire. Each bullet stopped dead before reaching its target, and with a single pulse of energy, all the guards, human and drone, where on the ground as the Arch Angel entered the city.
The guards would wake up later with the change of shift, and would have to make their report. The Arch Angel entered Suphia.
Suphia, Top of the Heaven Spire
The Overlord's Palace
Brutus Drex
Brutus Drex, the current Overlord of Suphia, a direct descendant of one of the original Whisper leaders. He rose to power at a young age, after the deaths of his parents. There was no mystery surrounding their deaths, everyone in the Sky Ring knew the truth. Their bodies where never found, but what was found was a pile of ashes. Everyone knew what that meant. But since Drex was the heir to Suphia, he was made the Overlord, and no one could stop him. His powers and everything about him had given him his nickname. The Black Dragon.
At this moment, he sat in his throne room, reading a report as a poor soldier stood in the centre of the room. The report was paper, which was strange unless you knew that Drex still liked the feel of paper.
"So...." Drex said, "You let that thing in?"
"N-No... It just appeared... we shot at it, but the bullets hit some sort of force-field." The soldier said, "Then it knocked us out but..."
"But what?" Drex let the report fall to the ground and burn in a black flame, "You couldn't do anything about it. Excuses. Something like that does not just sneak up on a fortified position. You are useless, you and your men. If I could afford to, I would have you all killed... but I can't afford that."
The soldier let out a sigh of relief, but then quickly clutched his throat. Drex held his hand out, palm facing the man, with only his index finger, middle and thumb extended. A black cyclone of air surrounded the soldier as the oxygen was removed from the air around him.
"However. I can afford to lose you." Drex said as the soilder fell to the ground. "Pathetic..." He sighed and the body ws set ablaze by a black flame. Everything burned, leaving only a pile of ash. He reached down beside his throne and pulled out a small device. With a push of a button a signal would be sent to a similar device in the possession of Drex's manservant, Lanchester West.
"Lanchester. I need you in the throne room." He said into the device, "There is a mess that needs to be cleaned up."
Suphia, Underdome
Edge of the Neutral zone
Shilo Weardhyll
Gun shots. That was all he heard, and all he needed to hear to go into action. Shilo Weardhyll, resident of the Underdome, UD Citizen, smoker, godforsaken good for nothing and the guardian of the neutral zone. The neutral zone, to someone who was not from the Underdome, they would have no idea what that was. But to those who lived and worked in the Underdome, they knew the importance of it.
Not long ago the Underdome was in the middle of a bloody conflict between the different crime families. It ended with the families sitting down and splitting up the the Underdome between each other. Of all the territory marked, there was an area that none of the families where given, nor wanted. This became the neutral zone. Some say it was created to be used as a place for peaceful talks between leaders and as a refugee for those who wanted nothing to do with them. Both are good reasons, but their was another. The conflict did not only pull the families into battle, but also forced a single person to take up arms and protect his home. That person was Shilo Weardhyll. During the conflict, Shilo would fight off anyone who came to close, as such, when peace was made, the neutral zone was created because that was where Shilo lived.
After that, Shilo became the unofficial defender of the neutral zone's neutrality. And so, when he heard gun shots near by where he was walking, he had to go investigate. The shots came from an alley, and when Shilo entered the alley to investigate, he saw it. A man was against a side wall, a bullet wound in his leg. The man was surrounded by a few men. Staying back for a moment, Shilo waited till they opened their mouths. One spoke with a distinct Irish accent. With a sigh, Shilo started walking towards them, with a lit cigarette in his mouth.
"Well... what do we have here? A few godforsaken leprechauns?" Shilo said as he approached, causing the Irish men to turn around and face him. There was four men now looking at Shilo.
"Ah keep walking." One said, "This is none of yer buisness."
"What if I don't?" Shilo said and removed the cigarette from his mouth and waited for an answer.
"Well, we'd 'ave to kill you." Another said and the rest started laughing.
It seems they don't know where they are... or who I am... Shilo thought and sighed as he let the cigarette fall. Before it hit the ground Shilo was beside the one he assumed was the leader, close enough to smell the alcohol on the man's lips, his fist up and behind him came flying towards the mans face. Shilo hit with more than enough force to send the man into the back wall of the alley. "Oh great. You're drunk."
With that Shilo looked to the others, who had all pulled out some sort of weapon.
"Really?" Shilo said, "You all want to do this? Do I have to remind you leprechauns that this is the neutral zone."
"Wait... This is the neutral zone?" one of them said and then looked at Shilo before giving a nervous laugh. He started to back away after he dropped his weapon, "Then that means you must be the Weardhyll guy."
Shilo shook his head and pulled out a new cigarette, and lowered his eyes while he reached for his lighter. By time he looked up to light the cigarette now in his mouth the leprechauns where running down the alley, their boss in one of their arms. Shilo smirked and then turned to the man against the side wall.
"And you. Russian right?" Shilo said and saw the man start to sweat. "If you leave now I will forget I saw you. Also, don't tell anyone that you ran into the Irish here. I don't think anyone wants another godforsaken war here. Understand. Go, get outa here."
With that, the Russian started to limp away, leaving Shilo alone in the alley.
"Well... that went better than expected."
