Great Korean Empire wrote:Page is not yet fully complete, there are still some aspects in design. Links to factbooks will be added to this post as they are completedFaction/Nation Name: Dakotan Directorate (Nation)
Faction/Nation Territory: Cities/Towns/Landmarks which form the edges of Dakotan territory, starting from the western edge, will be listed; Turtle Lake(ND), San Haven(ND), Grygla(MN), Detroit Lakes(MN), Alexandria(MN), Sioux City(IA), Missouri River until Washburn(ND), back to Turtle Lake(ND).
Capital City/Faction HQ: Fallen Fargo (Fargo, ND)
Population: 135,000 Dakotans
Government: Modeled between the French Directory and the US government, the Directorate has four branches and is led by three directors.
Executive
The executive branch is responsible for the leading and ruling of the nation, and is led by a board of three directors, known as the Board of Chief Directors(BCD). Although the majority of directors must agree to a proposal for it to pass, the authority of the BCD is not rivaled or kept in check by any other branch. The BCD also holds final judgement in the passing of laws, allowing them to keep full power over the nation under their control.
Judiciary
The judiciary branch is responsible for the courts of the nation, and is tasked with the issuing of BCD commands and upholding civil authority. The branch itself holds little power or value, and has been on the verge of disappearing altogether for several years.
Legislative
The legislative branch is responsible primarily for forming legal proposals. Though the legislative branch forms proposals, only the executive branch may accept or reject these proposals. The legislative branch has little purpose other than the regulation and creation of laws and other legal materials.
Administrative
The administrative branch, commonly known as the Authority, is responsible for the civil protection of citizens and upholding national law. The Authority has control over police forces, and many courts, often overruling judicial decisions.
Leaders: Peter Ludecke(Chief Director), Walther Tanne(Chief Director), Lili Eichel(Chief Director)
National/Group Ideology:
General Ideologies
Patriotism, isolationism, civic nationalism and diaspora nationalism.
Goals
Unite former native tribes under a single banner, conquer and protect the Greater Dakotan area, become the biggest trading power possible, remain a neutral power in conflicts.
Beliefs
The rights and opinions of native peoples, both of former native tribes and peoples native to the wasteland, should be heeded and respected. If you require the protection of the Directorate, you must do your part. Foreigners are to be treated with caution at all times and are never to be trusted.
Military: Military section is rather lax because I have not yet finished designing the smaller branches.
General Information
The military arm of the Directorate, collectively known as the Directorate Marshal Service(DMS), is comprised of two large branches and several smaller independent groups. The army equivalent, the Frontier Guards, is the largest branch. The smaller branch is the Directorates’ brown-water navy, the Marshal Naval Service. The Directorate Marshal Service has 2000 personnel. Most DMS troops use prewar US equipment, though not all do. The Frontier Guards and Naval Service currently use prewar equipment, namely Winterized Combat Armor, R91 Assault Rifles, and M199 Assault Rifles. Smaller branches use Directorate-made equipment, which is of a lower tech level. The DMS does not currently have an air force or power armor, although the Directorate does own two unarmed, transport model vertibirds, and has programs to design postwar automobiles(very unsuccessful so far.)
Major Towns or Locations:
Surrey Frontier Guards Outpost
Located in Surrey, ND, just outside of Minot, this outpost is controlled by the Frontier Guards, and is used to protect against any potential attacks from the Minot AFB to the northwest.
Turtle Lake Frontier Base
A Frontier Guards base located in Turtle Lake, it houses the Regional Frontier Guards HQ, responsible for all regional activities, both civil and marshal. The base is also the site of one of the largest water filtration sites in the Directorate.
Grygla Frontier Outpost
The Grygla Frontier Base is a small, important hub for the Directorate. Responsible for all missions into the former Midwest Commonwealth, the base is also an important farming and scavenging base. The Frontier Guards have a detachment in the base, and frequently use it for scouting missions into the surrounding areas.
Fallen City
Located within former Detroit Lakes, the city was ground zero for one of the bombs, destroying the majority of the former city. The city ruins have become one of the most populated cities in the Directorate, and has become a slum city in recent years.
Alexandria
Used for many of the same purposes as Grygla and the Fallen City, Alexandria was also one of the first cities to join the Directorate, and is houses one of the three Chief Directors.
Sioux Frontier Guards Fortress
Housing the Frontier Guards HQ, the Sioux City has been turned into a fortress, using many of the ruined building to help build fortifications. The Fortress is heavily defended, but relies on the supply caravans from Sioux Falls for most of its food, water, and other supplies. The Fortress is also the planned staging point for all further expansions and invasions into the former Northern Commonwealth.
SupplX(Supp-Lex) Trading Company HQ
The former city of Sioux Falls has become a major trading city for the Directorate, and houses the HQ of the SupplX Trading Company.
Fort Sisseton
Fort Sisseton has been rebuilt since the Great War, and has become one of the largest military bases in the Directorate, housing the 2nd Army.
Wakhpetonwan
Built from the former town of Wahpeton, it holds no current strategic importance, but is regarded with respect as the last of the three villages that formed the Directorate.
Chahinkapa
The second of the three founding villages, Chahinkapa was a small sister-village of Wakhpetonwan, built right across the river respectively. The village, which has since grown, is now the site of several memorials, but holds no other significant importance.
Termina
Termina was the first of the villages to found the Directorate, and is home to a memorial of the first three directors. Besides being the former capital, the village holds no other significance. The town was built underneath the ruins of a small prewar town named Hankinson.
History:
Early History
The Directorate’s origins can be traced to the early post-War period, 46 years after the end of the Great War. In 2123 the village of Termina declared the formation of the Terminus Directory. Two years later, when a large group of raiders took over Chahinkapa, the Terminus Directory aided the village and repelled the raiders. After chasing the raiders and burning down their camp, Chahinkapa agreed to join the Terminus Directory. Wakhpetonwan, the sister-village of Chahinkapa, also agreed to join one month later.
From Alliance to Nation
The three villages agreed that there would be one director from each village, to make a fair system for making decisions, and set a goal to unify an area they referred to as “Greater Dakota.” This area included the Dakotas, Minnesota, along with parts of Iowa, Nebraska, and Wisconsin. As they readied themselves to move from an alliance to a country, the directors agreed upon the Dakotan Directorate as the name of their new nation. So the Directorate came to be, fighting to unite the various peoples of the former Northern United States.
