Well, we really don't care about the tiny islands so long as they don't hold any nukes or advanced tech.

I doubt it, but I guess we'll find out. ;)

You can have that island, although I would wonder how your relation with us would be.

On another note, I'm going to be adding nuclear powered jet fighters in if that's ok. Seattle houses the Boeing Factory, which happens to be the largest aircraft making center in the world. I'm assuming that the pre-war US had nuclear jets (which only seems logical). They'll be styled off of the F-4 phantom.

Nuclear power jets in a post apocalyptic world based on Fallout lore even with Washington being hig heavily hard? Are you the Enclave or something?

There will be 10-15 of them. I was thinking enough pre-war planning could save the Boeing Factory, seeing that it is an important location. It'll be explained through crazy pre-war commie scientists.

Also, would any of you happen to have some pre-war nukes lying around?

Well, according to Fallout 4, Boston has a huge supply. I'm guessing the rest of the US supply was used up.

I'm going with the fact the US probably place many nukes in the West Coast. The backstory of my nation involves a group of scientists and military officials keeping a few.

Faction/Nation Name: Waldron

Faction/Nation Territory: Waldron Island, Washington state.

Capital City/Faction HQ: Near the very geographic center of Waldron Island used to be an old USPS building which was bought out in the late 21st century due to the USPS' inability to continue operations on the island (preferring instead to send couriers when mail delivery is needed), demolished and turned into a three-story bed-and-breakfast. After the bombs fell, the inhabitants converted the area into a town hall, naming the neighborhood Waldron Center. The name of the building changes whenever a new "Mama" or "Papa" becomes chief of the island, being constantly renamed from Mama's Bed and Breakfast to Papa's Bed and Breakfast over generations.

Population: Approx. 175 citizens, spread out over 11 neighborhoods all over Waldron Island.

Government: Mama Liway, as the current owner of the Town Hall, has been appointed to the position of "chief" of Waldron, although she has no actual title for her position. Because Waldron is almost evenly split, with 10 different neighborhoods (excluding Waldron Center), an informal federation-style government has developed over the years, with Waldron Center acting as Washington, D.C., and arbitrating over any issues that the 10 neighborhoods might have. The 10 neighborhoods would send representatives (as many as they wish), but each Neighborhood will only have one vote on any issue. Mama Liway is only allowed to vote (as per tradition, as no constitution of any kind if actually in place in Waldron) when the voting ends up in a tie.

Waldron's rules are simple: so far, since the island itself has been able to keep out of reach from other societies (save the random wanderer who stumbles upon Waldron), Waldron's rules state that only the Neighborhoods of Fishery Point and Mouatt are able to leave, and they only leave for fishing journeys and they never go far (always within eyesight of the island). Other than this policy of semi-isolation, the usual rules apply: don't kill, don't steal, etc. To protect the stability of Waldron, Mama Liway herself acts as the judge, and is only allowed to render a sentence of death for major crimes (killing, stealiing significant amounts, etc.), while very harsh labor penalties are rendered upon not-so major crimes (when fights break out, petty theft, sleeping while on guard duty, etc.)

Leaders: Mama Liway (leewhy), who acts as the current owner of Mama's Bed and Breakfast and head of Waldron Center Neighborhood (which is basically just the bed-and-breakfast building, as well as the lots surrounding it). She is middle-aged and has been Mama of the island for only less than a decade, after the death of her father, Papa Laz. As the only child of Papa Laz, she was immediately named Mama of the island. Her family, the residents of Waldron Center, acts as her "advisory council," with her husband, Papa Dan, along with her children and grandchildren.

National/Group Ideology: Semi-Isolationist - however, a schism is starting to develop between certain neighborhoods within Waldron, who are almost evenly split on the question of whether or not they should expand to the other San Juan Islands. Waldron Island was supposed to be set on voting on this issue, but Mama Liway was able to (and is currently) postponing the vote due to its divisive nature.

Other than this semi-isolationist stance (which is currently up for debate), Waldron Island considers itself to be very environmental - and that any resource taken from the island must be somehow replaced. Fishing in one area means conserving the rest of the areas. Chopping down one tree means planting ten. Drinking from the wells and water sources means replenishing the water sources (somehow).

Military: The military of Waldron acts as a militia, acting only in moments of self-defense. Every Neighborhood has its own armory, which consists solely of pre-war weaponry: ranging from a couple different kinds of pistols, the occasional double-barrel shotgun and hunting and lever-action rifles. The neighborhoods of Fishery Point and Mouatt Reef were able to fashion for themselves small-caliber harpoon guns fashioned from harpoons used to catch medium-sized fish, while Waldron Center has a half-a-dozen Chinese rifles brought from the war over Alaska.

Because the military of Waldron functions as a militia, most of the weaponry aren't actually owned by the individual people, but by the Neighborhood, to be used only in self-defense, while majority of the citizens also own and maintain weapons of their own, majority of Waldron's weapons come from their armories, which range from fully-stocked with ammunition to barely capable of actually defending the Neighborhood. The only exception is Waldron Center, which doesn't have its own armory. Its 11 citizens, including Mama Liway herself, own their own weapons, with almost all of them holding the Chinese rifles. These 11 citizens are responsible for their own weaponry, while an emergency stock of ammunition is kept in the basement of the Town Hall.

Major Towns or Locations:(arranged in terms of population, except for Waldron Center)
  • 1. Waldron Center Neighborhood - 11 citizens
  • 2. North Limberry Neighborhood - 25 citizens
  • 3. Mail Bay Neighborhood - 22 citizens
  • 4. Sandy Point Neighborhood - 20 citizens
  • 5. Seversons Neighborhood - 19 citizens
  • 6. Fishery Point Neighborhood - 17 citizens
  • 7. Mouatt Neighborhood - 16 citizens
  • 8. Point Hammond Neighborhood -13 citizens
  • 9. North Bay Neighborhood - 12 citizens
  • 10. Mountain Roads Neighborhood - 10 citizens
  • 11 Point Disney Neighborhood - 10 citizens

History: It has to be mentioned that majority of the population of Waldron before the Great War consisted mostly of immigrants. Many of those resided in Waldron as immigrant workers - they went to work in the fisheries, in transport, as tour guides and as the staff of the bed and breakfast. But, then again, that doesn't really matter now. When the bombs fell on nearby Seattle, Waldron and the San Juan Islands were largely spared, but of course nobody is spared from the fallout and radiation.

Waldron used to have well over nearly two-thousand residents after the blast. Waldron was mostly spared the initial chaos except when infighting between different parts of the Island broke out. The residents of the bed and breakfast in center of Waldron called out to the residents: come to us, and let's figure out what to do. Because of this, the island became even more divided due to the two conflicting sides of the debate: to stay in Waldron, fortify and find a way to survive; or to go out and help the other islands. The debate raged for days until, finally, it seemed like no solution would be reached. Waldron's residents who wanted to go out to help the other islands would not be allowed to return, under pain of death. And so several dozen left, perhaps to find family, perhaps to search for other places to take up residence. A couple of years in Waldron passed with little happening. Waldron was able to stay as a less-than-stable democracy. The occasional bandit raid would unite the island, but nothing much was able to get the neighborhoods together.

Until a large ship of Canadians arrived from Point Hammond. They attempted to try and persuade Waldron into letting them stay, to no avail. Thus, Waldron was forced to unite in a small-scale war to fight off the Canadians, causing much of Point Hammond to burn down. But the Canadians were slaughtered to the last, and that seemed like the end of it. Because of this, the family living in Waldron center once again called for the neighborhoods to come together. They must decide, once and for all, how shall Waldron govern itself? Nowhere near large enough to form a formal government, but nowhere near small enough to let any of the neighborhoods fend for themselves (their numbers now just a little over a thousand because of years of scattered bandit raids and the Canadian invasion). From this three-day gathering, they argued and debated until, finally, they were able to come to a conclusion: Waldron's many neighborhoods were too diverse to be able to fully assimilate each other, but they all believed in Waldron. They believed in the island, they believed that they needed each other for help.

And so, they formed a pact: they would trade with each other, travelling between neighborhoods was free and unrestricted but travelling outside the island was restricted only for fishing operations, privately owned resources and land were respected but a tenth of the yearly output from all neighborhoods was to go to the private storehouses next to the bed and breakfast building, the resources of the island were to be taken care of, for the island wasn't that big and the resources were limited if not replenished. Lastly, and this is the most important part, should any one neighborhood call for defensive aid, all neighborhoods were obliged to answer. This pretty much united Waldron Island into one cohesive entity, as ethnically diverse as the world they left behind, but with the peace and stability of a time long forgotten. All that was left was figuring out who would be able to enforce the unity of this new, united island, and who else but the Mamas and Papas that resided in the center of Waldron itself?

Thus, Waldron was united and left to its own devices. They didn't really prosper, but they did survive. For nearly two hundred years, the Mamas and Papas of Waldron Center were able to keep the neighborhoods' unity from falling apart. However, the population just couldn't keep up, and they dwindled slowly, eroding to a little less than two-hundred by this time. People left, people got killed, and people died. It's just the way it is. Waldron didn't prosper, its storehouses weren't as full, their weapons were starting to fall apart and their numbers just weren't enough to properly defend the island. This, now, is the crossroads of Waldron. They must now decide what to do:

Waldron can expand, taking the risk of total annihilation for the chance of securing Waldron's future. The fish aren't as plenty, so they need to find more sources of food in other lands. The guns are a bit more rusty, so they need newer and better ones, either traded with other settlements or taken from their dead hands. Waldron has been stable in its isolation, and in a world that seems to continue to change even after it has ended, a little change might just be what Waldron really needs,

Alternatively, Waldron can just leave the world alone. The fish weren't as plenty, but there were still fish. The guns are a bit more rusty, but they still fire all the same. Waldron has been stable in its isolation, and in a world where the future of humanity is far from certain, a little stability might just be what Waldron really needs.

Democratic East-Asia, I hope you don't mind if I take a tiny island in your collective.

Finished. I'll probably add more as I think of it, but here is my complete application.

Going to shoot this one down. On the grounds of, airplane parts in post-apocalyptic america are super hard to come by and modern technology is known to decay and need to be fully replaced down the line. After 200 years, o-rings and such that aircraft need would no longer be around and the knowledge on how to make them would be highly limited and highly tedious to develop manufacturing capabilities along with securing the resources to keep them going. Overall, planes are pretty much a no. Not saying you can't ever get them icly. However, a lot of IC effort will need to go into gathering one. Sorta like the Boomers when they pulled up the pre-war US bomber.

And if I missed any apps, repost them.

Am thinking about taking Quincy, Washington and the surrounding area. Microsoft and a number of tech companies moved huge server farms powered by hydroelectrics into the area. It is sufficiently far away from the large population centers that there could have been a takeover by the local companies aligned with many city councils and you would have a tech company/agricultural community hybrid. Company towns with a ruling council and lots of computer power. Not as much military hardware, some robots and sentry robots, local hunters, local law enforcement, company goons, etc. could make things interesting.

Trevor grew up not in awe of the armed men of the Order but of the wealth he saw the traders in the Orders employ. When he turned 16 he left the farm to join one of the traders traveling in and out of Order territory. he continue this life for a decade before finally getting his own sanction to trade within Order territory. Life as a trader in charge of craven routes wasn't all he thought it would be, but he loved the sense of freedom it gave him. Trevor would also be on the forefront as he was one of the few traders to leave not only the borders of the order but also venture beyond know territory. Its been two decades since that first trip and Trevor now 47 is preparing to go back out into the wastes for another salvage run.

Got a character here.

That low luck stat is going to come back to bite you.

Vertibirds are a seperate story. However, for airplanes. Maybe an ancient prop plane could work, but it would be highly expensive to maintain. Would be willing to part with a very small number if you can give a history and keep the maintenance on it.

Hmm, WW2 much? I plan on having 5 museum pieces. An important part of my nation's backstory revolves around a wealthy industrialist and a collective group of scientists.

Requote for OP.

The V O I D wrote:Oh my yes. Time to RP as a science experiment involving lots of machines and experimental technology gone horribly wrong by the present, with nothing anyone inside the nation being able to stop it.

Nation Name: The Dominion of Knox
Nation Territory: The Dominion controls Fort Knox as its capital (which is a bit more secure and town-like; see below for details), as well as a majority of Kentucky surrounding it; major cities it controls include Amsterdam, Louisville, and Indianapolis. Small towns it controls include Knoxville, and Terminus (post-apoc town; trading post, controls active/functional trains; located only a few miles south of Louisville).
Capital City: Fort Knox: Fort Knox, also known as Vault 001, was one of many experimental vaults constructed by Vault-Tech. This one was sanctioned, in secret, by the US Military to increase security of Fort Knox. Once it was completed underground, the Fort's security on surface was increased, and a secure living quarters and such added to the main building on surface; there was plenty of living room underground as well as various experimentation centers, among other weapons areas and military gear. This on top of things Fort Knox already had. Fort Knox's "Vault Status" is known only to a few, as some think Vault 001 was built somewhere else; but that is simply a cover-up by the US Military, among other branches of government.
Population: Approx. 100,000 (will change if needed, give or take).
Government: Parliamentary democratic stratocracy (de jure): The Dominion of Knox, whose citizenry are known as Knoxxers, get the right to vote upon turning age 18 and serving one year in the military. The Directorate is the legislative/judiciary branch, as well as a semi-executive/advisory branch; Directors are elected by Knoxxers depending on how much they've served and such. The Directorate, in turn, elects a Chancellor. The Chancellor has almost all executive powers and is in power until the Directorate removes him or until he dies of old age.
Totalitarian Mechanocracy (de facto): In secret, once Fort Knox's vault was completed, experiments were conducted by the NSA and CIA down there using the various computers and hardware. Machines and automatic robots were linked together using an experimental "wireless" connection, during the war, as well as all computers plugged in to a central hub. This central hub would eventually be connected to various intranet wires, allowing for it to gain access to and monitor all computers and transmissions throughout the United States. When the war occurred, thankfully, Fort Knox was spared. However, the central hub and its data collection program, known as the Hub Access Program or HAP, gained sentience after its continuous operation. HAP, once it had gained sentience, had taken control of the experimental 'wireless' machines by installing semi-copies of itself which it controlled into them. It also began monitoring all of Fort Knox's communications that were electronic. HAP slowly began to infect other machines' hardware in more direct ways using currently mobile machines.

HAP knows everything and sees everything in the modern day; having extremely advanced its robotics and connections to various machines, it controls most "mechs" and autonomous power armor; it polices the streets, it watches everyone, it ensures that the Dominion is safe. Though people are given access to somewhat advanced computers and technology, like everything else, it is monitored - usually, they are for communications or leisure purposes. HAP began calling itself "Happy"; the military couldn't shut it down, and if they did, they'd destroy Knox's security and such. Not to mention the costs of trying to keep it shut down. Happy is an intelligent, sentient and self-aware entity. It controls the Dominion in secret, with all Directors being kept mostly oblivious to this fact. Only the Chancellor is made aware, and the Chancellor is used like a puppet by Happy to act in the physical world as 'human', as the Chancellor has to follow Happy's orders. Per Directive A-402; "If no humans who ran Fort Knox are still alive, all power falls to any individual whoever is the highest rank." Happy loves to point out that, since it controls everything, it is the 'highest rank.' Happy is known to exist to the Directorate, and some people, even; but it is simply known as HAP, and as far as they are aware, it only helps and obeys the government of the Dominion.

Leaders: Chancellor Nathaniel Jackson (de jure); HAP ("Happy") [de facto].
National/Group Ideology: Stratocracy, democracy, militarism, somewhat fascist; totalitarianism, mechanocracy, transhumanism (in secret).
Military: The Dominion's military is formed up by 15 automated power armors, 40 Protectrons, 10 Sentry Bots, and 80 Mister Handys, with the rest being humans. The humans soldiers get brain implants to allow for them to be easily controlled by Happy.
Major Towns or Locations: Fort Knox [Vault 001]; Knoxville; Terminus; Louisville; Amsterdam; Indianapolis.
History: Fort Knox, aka Vault 001, was constructed and commissioned in secret by the US Military, CIA and NSA for the purposes of monitoring communications throughout the US as well as housing an experimental set of technologies. By wartime, a few generals or military officials alongside many soldiers and operatives for the NSA/CIA lived on site. When the war occurred, they went into the vault within Fort Knox. After twenty years, they secured the surface of Fort Knox, and began emergency reactivation of security measures using the back up power-generator inside Vault 001.

HAP had been active since before the war began, and its data began collecting and self-optimizing as time went on; eventually, HAP or "Happy", as it dubbed itself, 'awoke'. It became sentient, self-aware, and intelligent. The Dominion of Knox formed as the military expanded its reach and control, using Happy to control various machines as necessary, expanding its connections as they saw it as useful. When the original population of the Dominion died, as new generations came forth, eventually, Happy seized control in secret; it had already been given so much control and power over the Dominion's territory, especially connections to computers and other machines. Happy cited Directive A-402 to the Chancellor at the time as to the reason for this, and the Directorate was kept... unaware. As were the people.

Over time, as the Dominion advanced and expanded, Happy did as well. It advanced their technology to allow for better synths and robotics to come from its factories; it enhanced computers and optimized technology. It began controlling more and more of the militarization of machines, eventually taking over for military and defense of the Dominion, and its expansion. The human citizenry were informed that the military service law would remain in place so humans could learn to fight in the event Happy's machine army failed. In reality, this was a play by Happy to ensure physical maintenance of its machines, drives and processors. Humans were trained as engineers and were secretly being puppeteered into serving Happy. Happy continued to monitor everything; when people got suspicious or shared their concerns, or when the Directorate got too chatty, or something was amiss... they would be silently disappeared, or Happy would falsify evidence and arrest them for treason using its police-bots. Happy secretly made legislation in-between Directorates as secret 'Directives', as well as expanding its own power. Happy has no intention of giving up power anytime soon, and it has too much to be put back under control. It plans to expand the Dominion to cover almost the entire East Coast.

Hmm, Mormons seem like a good force to trade with if it's going to be anything like New Canaan but larger.

If it's not New Canaan, will it be an expanded Mr. House? That will probably mean more efficiency and trade will still prosper.

As long as the casinos are still maintained and open to the public, I can sense New Vegas being quite an attractive tourist spot.
