Urgh. I can't make a map, though ;-; I could try, but it generally doesn't work well.
Depression kind of goes along with not being liked, especially when you ask for help, and don't get it. Remember that, okay? There are people who need someone, even if in a small way. Don't avoid them because of a misunderstanding, them having a bad day, and definitely not because everyone else does it. Even if it's just a fifteen minute conversation about nothing, it might help.

I can't make a map because I'm on mobile, and my school laptop is stupid. I do use them both for writing, but that's all I can do with them.

I am more than certain that you can find some way to show us what you mean by your claims.

I'm going to say the latter is Mandatory and a step further to boot, if no image representation is on the app I will make assumptions and they will be negative and non-negotiable, I have better things to do with my time then sit with google maps wikipedia and a magnifying glass.

And I wholeheartedly agree.

Kiev, throught the eons of history, has endured everything the world has to bring it down. From the heathen mongol and their barbarity, Polish-Lithuanian and its Catholic feudalism and oppression, Russian empire, Nazi Germany, and even the Godless Soviet. But today, Kiev still prove itself to the world that it would stand forever! As the city of the Rus, Holy land of Orthodox Christianity, and bastion of Democracy in the Eastern Europe.
So with that, may Kiev will never perish--For God is with us!

I think that yes. Though we would very much like a small description of what you have in mind for those lands.

I'm not copying the color of another nation on the map, and it makes my nation stand out among the colors of my neighbors, there are no reasons to deny it.

Cymrea wrote:Full Nation Name: United Kingdom of Cambria (Cambrian Empire)
Majority/Official Culture: Welsh, English
Territorial Core: England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, Isle of Man, Channel Islands, Orkey Islands, Shetlands, Canada, Alaska panhandle, Washington state, Australia, Jamaica, Ivory Coast (Cote d'Ivoire), Cambrian Sinai (or Cambrian Aegypt), Ascension Island.
Territorial Claim: Western USA, New Zealand
Capital City: Londinium (RL London)
Population: 37.3 million (Populstat 1870)

Government Type: Constitutional monarchy
Government Ideology/Policies: Imperialist
Government Focus: Military, economy/industry, science
Head of State: Queen Victoria o Rosa Regina (Alexandrina Tudoria Victoria)
Head of Government: Consul Primaris William Caledonis Gladstone
Government Description: The Cambrian Parliament is a bicameral legislature composed of the Circle of Archons (upper house of peerage) and the Circle of Praetors (lower house of commons). The Royal Senate is the executive cabinet of specialised advisors in particular ministries who advise the Consul Primaris.

Majority/State Religion: Cambrian Paganism
Religious Description: Cambrian Paganism is a less a religion than it is a communal spiritual connection to the natural world. Central to the faith is the idea that all things are interconnected; the seasons, the life cycles of humanity and the world around them, and the apparent order of all things. The belief that all things have their own spirit, similar to Shintoism, and the exploration of the natural order through the scientific method are mutually inclusive. Celebrations and observances include the solstices and equinoxes of the sun cycle, the lunar patterns, the sowing and the harvest. Balance and karma are also strong concepts in Cymrean Paganism.

In addition to the natural spirits are a pantheon of semi-deities - more like heroes and champions of legend and myth that are venerated, and whose interventions are often sought. These include Dadga, the All-Father and chief amongst Cambrian heroes; Tyr, greatest of warriors and champion of courage; Atalanta, the legendary ancient naval commander and hero of the seas; Morgana, the lady of death; and Wyrd, the champion of fate and chance. These icons represent certain facets of the world and provide a source of potential providence. As they are - purportedly - based on real Cambrians that once lived, they aren't worshipped as gods, per se.

Economic Ideologies: Mercantilism, leaning to capitalism
Major Production: Industrial equipment
Economic Description: Leading the world in financial services, resource extraction, and global trade, Cambria maintains a powerhouse economy that is increasingly enriched by industrial manufacturing.

Army and Navy Strengths and Weaknesses: Cambria's military is about 1% of their population, which is over 34 million. I haven't expanded that because it's only been a couple of IC years. This means that with all my vast territories to defend, I have only 320,000 regular and reserve forces in my armies and navies combined. The result is that localised garrisons are required to be largely self-reliant across all of Cambria, Canada, Australia, Jamaica, Ivory Coast, and Cambrian Aegypt.

Having the largest navy means being able to cover my disparate regions and their commercial shipping lanes without leaving ports undefended. Discipline means they can fight in formations, maneuver well, and have a low chance of breaking/routing. Well-trained and well-equipped speak for themselves.

National Goals: Maintain the empire
National Issues: Tolerance of modern paganism
National Figures of Interest: High Druid Owainn
National Ambition/Aspirations: Imperial expansion and global prosperity

History: As the northern tribes assaulted and settled a Britannia recently bereft of Roman garrisons, they found a stable and comfortable quality of life and so Roman influence never faded, but instead flourished in its own way.

In the 15th Century, the popularity of Maria Tudoria Elizabeth I was extremely high, but her Privy Council, her Parliament and her subjects thought that the unmarried queen should take a husband; it was generally accepted that, once a queen regnant was married, the husband would relieve the woman of the burdens of head of state. Also, without an heir, the Tudor dynasty would end; the risk of civil war between rival claimants was a possibility if Elizabeth died childless. The first and most ardent suitor was Mary I’s widower Philip II of Spain. However, numerous other suitors from nearly all European nations sent ambassadors to the English court to put forward their suit.

Risk of death came dangerously close in 1564 when Elizabeth caught smallpox, and British destiny forever changed. It is said that in her fever, she experienced a holy visitation from a source no one would ever have suspected, given her moderate yet adamant Protestant views. Elizabeth claimed that Danu, mother goddess to the Tuatha de Danaan – the forerunners of modern Celts – came to her in her hour of greatest peril and told her that the elder gods had returned from their long celestial journey to reclaim the hearts and spirits of their Briton children. Elizabeth quickly recovered and proclaimed the vision a miracle.

The Second War of the Roses followed, with House York rising up with the support of all Christians of the realm, many of them Lancastrian. But a return to the original gods and a renewal of ties to the land was popular among the laymen and more nobles than might have been thought joined the Tudor cause. The Church of England reacted virulently, supporting the Yorkists and declaring Elizabeth and her revived Druidism anathema. In response, Elizabeth decreed the Church to be valid, but no longer the faith of the Crown and State. Popular revolts against the clergy resulted in the Church’s presence being reduced to Yorkist fortifications. In the end, the overwhelming popularity of Druidism resulted in the expunging of the Church of England.

The initial reaction from Rome was one of support for Elizabeth, seen as a scourge against the Protestants. The Vatican believed that Catholicism could be reinvigourated in Britain. Too late, the Pope realised that the movement was strong enough to hold permanent sway over the nostalgic Britons. Having supported the movement at its inception, the Pope could not exactly call for a Crusade – especially given that Rome was greatly occupied with the Holy Land, and that Britain held nothing of geographical or theological importance for Catholicism. Indeed, the pagan artifact Stonehenge became a leading symbol for the Druid revival, something the Vatican wanted no part of. As a result of the successful Druid Movement, Elizabeth conformed readily to the idea that marriage and birth-giving were natural cycles of the gods-given Earth. She married Edwardius Robert Dudley, 1st Earl of Leicester, in 1565. After much anticipation and anxiety, Elizabeth finally gave birth to Augustus Tudorius Taliesin I in 1575; Prince Taliesin succeeded his mother to the throne in 1603.

The nation’s identity as a Welsh state of Roman influence was solidified when, in 1599, Prince Taliesin suggested the name Cambria, a Roman version of Cymru, the Welsh name for Wales. The name was officially adopted November 3, 1601, and was declared the national holiday by Queen Elizabeth. Later, the name of the family line would be changed to Rosa, to reflect the Tudor rose. This incited a sweeping change of name for all noble Houses of Cambria, who would not be left out. Native flora and fauna became symbols - and names - for the oldest Houses. After a similar popular Druidic Movement, Ireland joined the United Kingdom of Cambria. Today, Cambria spans the world and is often informally referred to as the Cambrian Empire.

I messed it up. South Africa is supposed to be thicker, and I think some of the African areas were supoosed to be thinner. If it doesn't show up for you, I also circled some islands.

Sorry :( I'll have to restart with a fresh map if I want to fix it, because it won't let me edit what I already made. *Sighs.* This is stupid!

@The Burgundy guy, I don't even know if I want South Africa, anymore. I took less of Mozambique than I originally itended (did I take any, though?), and it might be too hard to keep control of. I also linked the Horn of Africa, and Zanzibar, so I guess I don't want anything else... I'll remove it, if I remake the map.

Imperium Romanorum
Imperium Romaniae
Βασιλεία Ῥωμαίων
The Roman Empire

Senatus Populusque Romanus
'The Senate and People of Rome

Imperator Imperatorum Imperans Imperantibus!
Emperor or Emperors, Ruling Over Those Who Rule!

Full Nation Name : Imperium Romanum/the Roman Empire, Imperium Romanorum/the Empire of the Romans, but the old Greek variant is sometimes also used in certain contexts, Βασιλεία Ῥωμαίων/Basileía Rhōmaíōn. Many other names are used more or less commonly, like the name Romania/Land of the Romans, Imperium Romaniae/the Empire of Romania. Hostile nations use the names of "the Eastern Roman Empire" when refusing to recognize the direct succession from the ancient Roman Empire to the current one.
Majority/Official Culture : The main and official culture is Roman, but other cultures exist through the many citizens of the Empire. Romanitas (Romanity, or Romanism) is the idea of the Roman civilization rather than its political reality. Included among its concepts are the very symbols of the Roman Empire, those things that are identified with the Roman people, military and government.
Territorial Core :
Image
Image

Territorial Claim :
Image
Debatable. As an example, due to the friendly relations they have with Italy, the Romans aren't particularly interested in taking it. Their foreign policy will not be dictated by these claims.

Capital City : Constantinople, the New Rome, the Second Rome, the Eastern Rome, Roma Constantinopolitana, the Queen of Cities, the Reigning City, the City, the God-Guarded City, the Eye of the World, the Envy of the World, the City of the World's Desire, Byzantium.
Population :
  • 30 million in my homelands, Greece, Thrace, and Asia Minor. Based upon the 12 million population of the Byzantines around the year 1000, plus a high increase of the population based on the already existing high Byzantine population growth rate at the time, due to better standards that the rest of Europe, and the lack of any real life events or catastrophes to affect the Byzantine population.
  • 1,500,000 in the rest of Bulgaria.
  • 500,000 in Dobruja
  • Around 10 million in Syria and Mesopotamia
  • 1 million in Palestine and Sinai
  • Total, around 42,500,000

Government Type : The Roman Government is pretty mixed, really. At least in name, it is a Cesaropapist Absolute Monarchy, with the Emperor holding the supreme authority in both secular and religious matters. But in practice, the Roman Government is built upon the balance between the three powers of the state, the Emperor, the Senate, and the People of Rome. Having a complex bureaucracy and a large system of titles inherited from a government system that has existed in different forms from the ancient Roman era to the present date, the Roman Government is however highly efficient, organized, pragmatic, and meticulous, the government playing an important role in the Roman state.
Government Ideology/Policies : Militant, Imperialist, Expansionist, Religious, Nationalist.
Government Focus : Legitimacy, Culture, and Economy have been the traditional focuses of the Roman Government in the past centuries, but this has started to change recently, as modernization programs initiated by the progressive faction of the Senate have led to the start of modernization among the armed forces, the construction of railways, and in general, a greater focus towards modernizing the Imperium and bringing it in line with the more advanced nations.
Head of State : His Imperial Majesty, Julius Palaeologus Felix, by the Grace of God Emperor and Autocrat of the Romans, Despot of all of the Lands of the Eternal Rome, Forever Augustus, Caesar, Dominus and Princeps, Lord of the West and the East, Viceroy of Jesus Christ on Earth, Pius Felix, Defender of the True Faith, Protector of the Holy Cities of Constantinople, Jerusalem, Antioch, Alexandria and Rome, Ruler of the Mare Nostrum, King of Greece, Asia Minor, and Mesopotamia, Duke of Thrace,Armenia, and Crete, Protector of the Principality of Taurica, Protector of the Caucasus, Protector of Babylon and Akkad, Voivod of Dobruja, Princeps Senatus and Tribunicia Potestas, Pater Patriae, Nobilissimus, Sovereign of the Holy Order of the True Cross, Grand Master of the Order of Saint Andrew, of the Order of Constantine the Great and of the Order of Justinian the Great, Emperor of Emperors, King of Kings, Ruling Over Those Who Rule.
Head of Government : Great Consul and Great Senator Alexander Velsagio.
Government Description : The Roman Government is in name, a Cesaropapist Absolute Monarchy, but in fact, it is made up by the balance of the main powers in the state. In some ways, Rome is autocratic, with immense power that is vested in a single leader. However, the Empire's constitution is its ultimate authority in every judicial, executive, and legislative matter. The Politeia Romanorum( The Constitution of the Romans) has 32 Pronuntiatios. Every constitutional proclamation is inviolable. Neither the Senate, nor the people, nor the military, nor the Caesar can break them. The document's purpose is to guarantee imperial citizens certain inalienable rights against imperial, senatorial, collegial, or cultural oppression and establish republican laws which institute a fair government of the people, by the people, and exclusively for the people. And of course, to create the balance between the three powers.

The first and most important power belongs to the Emperor, the Imperator. He has the supreme authority in both secular and religious matters, and he governs the Imperium under his imperium maius (supreme executive power), his auctoritas principis (primary legislative authority), and his jure divis (divine mandate as Viceroy of Christ). Other magistrates possess political powers subsidiary to and even derived from those of an emperor. and he stands at the apex of the hierarchy, being divinely ordained as the Viceroy of Jesus Christ on Earth, and the descendant of the ancient Roman Emperors. He is unquestionable, and he can dissolve the Senate at any moment's notice. He names the provincial military commander of every province, the Dux. From nearly all points of view, he is an absolute monarch and his rights are outlined in the Lex Augustis. But as the Emperor, he has the right to protect the Empire and its citizens. And especially with the benevolent monarchs of the last centuries, in certain aspects, the Roman Empire has become more liberal than many other nations. Separate from his public office, a Caesar bears the highest Dignitas (social standing) of a Roman citizen and has sacrosanctity from physical harm under the Roman laws. Violating his sanctity is sacrilege and treason - punished by death.

The second power belongs to the Imperial Senate, the Senatus, the assembly of the Roman senators. Elected by the Roman citizens once every five years, the Roman Senate acts like a Parliament in other countries, advising the Emperor and having a large legislative power and role, while also having an important rule in governing the empire, by choosing the provincial Proconsuls. Although traditionally, a place for the patricians, in the last centuries the Senate has also started to contain plebeians, now representing all citizens of the Empire, regardless of their position. The Emperor has the power to dissolve the Senate at any time he would want, but the Senate also has the right to formally protest the Emperor's decisions if they would be against the better good of the People of Rome, but it wouldn't affect the Emperor's authority. The Senate is bicameral. The Lower House is the Comitia Curiata (Curiate Assembly) but tradition is to refer to it as the Curia (Assembly). Members of the Assembly, officers of regular legislation, are referred to as Senatores (Senators). Regular bills need a 50% senatorial majority to become senatus consultum. Such a bill will be posted in the Forum the following morning for review by magistrates and citizens. Afterward, the Caesar chooses to either enact or veto the bill, unless it carries a supermajority in the Senate. Senatorial procedure is heavily influenced by tradition. Senators vote by individually consenting to the bill, and debate persists for a customary period of time before being halted by the president of the Senate. The upper house is the Comitium Consularis (Consular Congress). Members of Congress are Consules (Consuls) but they are not like the bureaucrats who bore their name during the First Republic. The consuls have collective power to write federal legislation, which no other body can do.

The third power in the state is formed by the common citizens, the People of Rome. The power of Roman citizens is exercised through their right of assembly. Choices that must be made by the people are settled in mass public votes. Anyone with imperial citizenship in a voting region gets one vote. A conglomeration of voting citizens making a legally potent action is a Popular Assembly (Comitia Popula). The Roman citizens enjoy extensive rights and obligations, and from this point of view, although they live in an absolute monarchy, the Roman citizens enjoy more freedom than the citizens of many other nations. Civitatem Romanum (citizenship) is the individual possession of every man and woman recognized by the Roman Senate. For a person to be a cives (citizen) they must be 16 years of age or older and satisfy one of the following conditions:
  • Born to two Roman citizens.
  • Born to one Roman citizen within a Roman province and served a set term in the Roman military.
  • Recognized as a citizen by the Emperor or the Senate.

Citizenship is the most coveted possession of a resident of the Roman Empire. Once held, it is irrevocable without extreme violations of national law - demonstrable guilt in treason, perjury, barratry, or desertion. The Roman citizens enjoy religious freedom as long as they respect the Emperor, the Empire and its authority, and they can vote and be elected in the Roman senate or in any other positions in the Roman administration. The People of Rome serve as the base of the Empire, who lives on due to the balance between the Emperor, the Senate, and the People of Rome, Imperatorum et Senatus Populusque Romanus.

Fascisma, or the fervent support of the Roman Empire and its government, basically nationalism, is common among citizens. The name is derived from the magisterial fasces, a symbol of reciprocal strength through unity and unity in strength. Romans view their society as a beacon of civilization in a barbaric world. A majority of Romans take this farther. Many citizens and politicians believe all human activity is their empire's business and their state has a duty, as protector of the human race, to intervene as it deems appropriate. The Romans are also largely extremely loyal to the Empire and to the Emperor, and take pride in their Roman citizenship and origins. The Romans strongly trust their state, and also strongly believe in the ideal man, the vir, and in all the principles that a vir should follow. The Virtus is one of the most important things that all Roman citizens must have. Virtus was a specific virtue in Ancient Rome. It carries connotations of valor, manliness, excellence, courage, character, and worth, perceived as masculine strengths (from Latin vir, "man")

As bigoted as Roman society may appear, the empire has historic ties to human rights and protecting the interests of the human race. The Romans were the one of the first civilizations to abolish slavery and it was Roman philosophers, building on the ideas of the Greeks, who were among the first to invent the ethical and legal idea of natural rights. The Romans continue to believe that every person is entitled to specific things: the right to his or her own body, the right to breed, the right to equality among their peers, etc, and that these natural rights are equally held by everyone - regardless of nationality or race - and cannot ever be revoked. Not many other states on Earth safeguards the rights of human beings as fervently or as broadly as the Empire of the Romans.

Majority/State Religion :Eastern/Roman Christian Orthodoxy is the majority religion, but the citizens of the Roman Empire have total religious freedom, as long as they don't oppose the Imperium, with the major Church being the Roman Orthodox Church.
Religious Description : The majority religion in the Roman Empire is the Roman or Eastern Orthodoxy, a one of the two Christian religions that had appeared as a result of the Great Schism in 1054. The One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Orthodox Church practices what it understands to be the original faith passed down from the Apostles. The Church is led by the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, who is recognized as "primus inter pares"(first among equals) between all the Orthodox bishopsand patriarchs, being formally recognized as the leader of the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Orthodox Church. The Emperor, from his position as the supreme authority in both secular and religious matters in the Imperium, is considered to be divinely ordained and the Viceroy of Jesus Christ on Earth, any Patriarch having to receive his blessing before taking his position.
However, the Roman Empire has always been lenient in the matter of religious freedom, and following the Emperor's edict of religious freedom, all Roman citizens are free to follow whatever religion their desire, as long as they respect the Emperor, Senate, and People of Rome.
Economic Ideologies : The Roman Empire has a capitalist economy with a strong state control.
Major Production : Agricultural products, iron, coal, minerals, silk, clothing.
Economic Description : Although still largely agrarian, the Roman economy has been booming in the last decades, especially due to the reforms performed by the progressive faction of the Senate. The small Roman industry has been expanded due to the state subsidies, and the help of foreign allies and trade partners, and the creation of railway infrastructure has also enormously helped. Through its good position, and trade agreements with foreign nations, the Roman Empire is a hub for trade between Asia, Africa and Europe.

Army Strength :The Imperial Roman Army( Exercitus Romanorum, literally the Army of the Romans) is the terrestrial force of the Roman Empire, with a history that spans for millennia. Even if it's not as advanced technologically as the armies of many other great powers the Exercitus enjoys an extremely strict discipline, the famous Roman discipline that is one of, if not the best in the world, a really strong training for every legionnaire, experienced units, and a really high morale, which puts the individual Roman soldiers in front of the soldiers of many other powers, the Roman soldiers being idealized even in foreign countries. Through its officer corps and straight forward command line, good organization, and general pragmatism and meticulousness, the Exercitus is also balancing its technological problems. The Romans also use a variety of original weapons that help them gain the advantage on the battlefield, like the Roman Fire flamethrowers used by specialized units. Elite units also fight for the Romans, among them being the Varangian Guard and the Scholae Palatinae, the elite guards of the Emperor.

The Exercitus is organized in legions ( Legiones, singular Legio) Each legion is under the command of a Legate, and in times of peace, the legions in a province are subordinated to the military commander of the province, the Dux.
Army Weakness : The Exercitus is technologically inferior to some of its counterparts, and has a pretty conservative way of thinking, but the Roman Empire has been trying to modernize its armed forces, and with the rise in popularity of the progressive factions in the Senate, more progressive officers have started to take command. But,a nation can't simply upgrade its armed forces over the night, so even if it would receive help from foreign, more advanced powers, the Roman Empire will still be plagued by its technological inferiority for much time to come, and even with foreign help, it is struggling in this objective. And the conservative faction is still opposing any kind of modernization.
Naval Strength :The Imperial Roman Navy( Classis Romanorum, literally the Fleet of the Romans) is the naval force of the Roman Empire. Even if the attention of the Roman Empire has always been focused on its army, leading to the Classis being neglected in the favor of expanding the army, the Roman Empire is a naval power, being nearly uncontested in the Black Sea and uncontested in the Aegean Sea, while actively competing with the naval forces of Christendom.
The Classis is also suffering from the same technological problems as the Exercitus, being technologically inferior to some of its naval rivals and counterparts, it enjoys an excellent discipline among its men, a high grade of training and experience. To balance its technological inferiority, the Classis is also using the secret weapon of the old Roman navies, the Greek or the Roman Fire, an extremely inflammable substance that can even burn on water, making in a really useful but dangerous weapon. The Fire is used in many ways, from projectors on board ships that can strike from a distance, throwing the liquid fire, to cannonballs with Roman Fire that explode upon hitting the enemy ship.
Naval Weakness : Once again, its technological inferiority when compared to the more advanced navies of the world, a weakness the Roman Empire is trying to resolve. But, a nation can't simply upgrade its armed forces over the night, so even if it would receive help from foreign, more advanced powers, the Roman Empire will still be plagued by its technological inferiority for much time to come, and even with foreign help, it is struggling in this objective. And the conservative faction is still opposing any kind of modernization.
Further Military Description : The Imperial Roman Army( Exercitus Romanorum, literally the Army of the Romans) is the main military force of the Roman Empire. The Exercitus is a large and powerful armed force, known for its strict discipline, high morale, and good training. The Exercitus is organized in legions.Even though the Exercitus is lacking the technological advantages of the Westerners, it is compensating through its famous discipline, strict standards, rough training and large experience.

The Imperial Roman Guards, are the elite troops of the Roman Empire, the most disciplined and the best trained men in the Imperium. They are divided in two organizations, with similar but overall different purposes, and a third, different one. The Varangian Guard is the Emperor's personal guard, under his direct command. The Varangians are mostly of Western or Nordic origin, as being in the Varangian Guard is usually a honor transmitted from father to son. The recruits for the Varangian Guard have to meet several requirements, and are carefully selected, before going to an extensive and harsh training. While a small part of the Varangians are always with the Emperor, being his personal guard, the rest are used as elite troops in difficult situations. The other organization is formed by the Scholae Palatinae. Still considered elite troops, with an excellent discipline, the main difference between the Scholae and the Varangians is that the Scholae is open to all Roman recruits that meet the requirements and pass the tests. A small part of the Scholae is sometimes used to guard foreign officials while in the Empire, but they are mostly used in combat. The third elite organization is formed by the The Western Guards(Praesidio Occidentalis), as they are usually called, are a Roman legion trained and armed by Western standards, and a model for the modernization level the rest of the Exercitus has to reach. The Exercitus is also employing mercenaries and irregulars, that are overall known as the Foederati.

The Imperial Roman Navy( Classis Romanorum, literally the Fleet of the Romans) is the naval force of the Empire. Protecting the Empire''s trade and interests, with its ports mainly in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Black Sea, the Classis is a force to be reckoned with, despite its technological inferiority. The Classis is famous for its use of the Greek Fire, ranging from the usual firethrowing ships, to the newer experiments like the Greek fire cannonballs.
The Classis is sometimes employing pirates to work as privateers for the Empire, but it usually is pretty strict in the matters of piracy.

National Goals :Modernizing the Roman Empire, seeking new allies, gaining good relations with its neighbors strengthening the Roman Hegemony in the Eastern Mediterranean and in the Black Sea, maybe gaining some colonies.
National Issues :If the Roman Empire wants to survive these new times, it has to be modernized, and it has to get rid of the conservatism, and some of its obsolete rituals and bureaucracy. The Roman Empire is also viewed poorly by most of the West, and has many possible enemies.
National Figures of Interest :Emperor Julius II Palaeologus, Prince Constantine Palaeologus, Prince Alexander Palaeologos, Princess Sophia Palaelologos, Imperial Chancellor Alexander Velsagio, Ecumenical Patriarch Cyril VII and a ton of historical figures.
National Ambition/Aspirations : Reaching a technological level similar to the Western nations, being recognized as the one, true, Roman Empire, regaining control of the original Eastern Roman territories, repairing relations with the West, seek a reunification between the Roman Orthodox and the Catholic Church.

History :
  • Everything starts in 476 A.D. On the 4th of September, the barbarian General Odoacer forced Romulus Augustulus, the last Western Roman Emperor, do abdicate, a few days after the death of the last other Western Imperial pretender, Julius Nepos. While the Western Roman Empire split itself to pieces, abandoning Rome, and having no remaining Emperors, the righteous looked East... where the spirit of Rome prospered in the Eastern Roman Empire, with the capital in Constantinople. That's where Odoacer send the Imperial insignia. Upon receiving them, the Eastern Emperor Zeno proclaimed the end of the Western line of Roman Emperors, and proclaimed himself the single Emperor of Rome, ruling over both the East, and the West, in the point that is usually considered by modern historians to be the birth of a new Roman Empire. Zeno sends forces to Southern Italy, but to problems at the Empire's Eastern borders, never manages to advance into northern Italy. The Kingdom of Italia is formed, in 490 and in the rest of Italy, various kingdoms fight for power He is succeeded by Flavius Anastasius Augustus, who starts to strengthen the vassal Kingdom of Italy.
  • In 540 A.D., Rome is retaken to the combined Roman and Italian forces. With the decisive help of the Roman troops led by General Belisarius, the Italians push the barbarians out of Italy and claim it all, reaching the Alps in 560.
  • Under Justinian, the Roman Empire recovers the Mediterranean, Italy as a vassal state, Northern Africa, southern Spain, Sicily, Sardinia, Corsica. For the reign of "the emperor that never slept", the Roman Empire reaches its largest territorial expansion after the Fall of Rome, an age of glory and splendor, to be remembered for millennia. The Imperium returned to the position of the dominant power in Europe, regained control over the Mediterranean Sea and over Rome itself. But, in his efforts to renew the Roman Empire, Justinian dangerously stretched its resources while failing to take into account the changed realities of 6th-century Europe. Paradoxically, the grand scale of Justinian's military successes probably contributed in part to the Empire's subsequent decline. Natural disasters and the Plague of Justinian weakened the empire in the later half of the Emperor's rule. Justinian the Great died on the 15th of November 565 A.D. The time of glory had ended.
  • In 568 A.D., three years after the death of Justinian, the Lombards invaded Northern Italy. War with the Sassanids in the East weakened the Empire, leaving the Italians to fight on their own. The Kingdom of Italy becomes largely autonomous. Emperor Justin II failed to defend the declining Empire, which was assaulted from all sides. Emperor Tiberius later improved the situation, with Emperor Maurice defeating the Sassanids and strengthening the Roman rule in Africa and Italy, although Spain was lost. But in 602 A.D., Emperor Maurice died without an heir, and the Empire chose Emperor Heraclius, who restored the power of Constantinople, and defeated the Sassanids, making a final peace with them but the war itself meant that the Roman Empire had no way to oppose what happened in Italy in 624 A.D., when the Italians threw out the forces of the Roman Empire, breaking their pledge of loyalty to the Roman Emperor. Italy is forever lost. In face of that, Emperor Heraclius decides to keep Latin as the main Language of the Empire, reorganizing its remains by creating a new provincial system, and starts an aggressive Romanization of the barbarians in the Empire, a policy which was followed by his successors. But there was another treat rising on. The Muslims.
  • In 627 A.D., the Muslim armies enter the Roman Syria, and defeat the Emperor's brother in a brutal battle. Convinced of the need to stop these new invaders, Heraclius proposes an alliance between the Roman, the Persian, and the Akkadian Empires, which together, stop the Muslim advance, defeating them, and throwing them back in Arabia. Unfortunately, the Muslims still spread into Africa, and Egypt is lost. Heraclius died in 641, leaving a changed Empire behind him.
  • Over the following centuries, the aggressive Romanization and Latinization process started by Heraclius is continued by nearly all its successors, as the Latin language replaces the Greek language nearly everywhere. . But the reduction of the Empire's territory to its present territories, in most forms, also created a coagulated Roman, Latinized population there, strengthening the Roman state from the inside.
  • But in 800 AD, the Pope, taking advantage of the weakness of the ruler of the Roman Empire, who was unfortunately, a female, Imperatrix Irene, crowned Charlemagne, the King of the Franks, as Emperor of the Romans, effectively challenging the rule of the Emperors of Constantinople. This event marked the start of the West-East rivalry that continues to the present day.
  • In 917, the Bulgarians invade the Roman Empire, defeating all the Imperial forces sent to fight them, putting Constantinople itself in danger as they besieged it in 930. Through what could be called a miracle, Constantinople survives, but the Balkan provinces of the Empire seem to be lost forever...
  • But in 976 A.D., Basil II becomes Emperor. One of the greatest Roman Emperors of all time, leading the Imperium with an iron first, Basil defeats and slaughters the Bulgarians, bringing them and their lands back in the empire and gaining the nickname the Bulgar Slayer. But after his death, the Imperium declines, and a new threat appears, the Turks.
  • Tensions between the Catholic and the Orthodox parts of the Christian Church reach an all time high, and in 1054, the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople and the Pope of Rome excommunicate each other, creating the West-East Schism, and officially breaking the Christian Church into the Orthodox and the Catholic Church. The Roman Empire becomes more and more isolationist.
  • The Seljuk Turks attack Asia Minor, and defeat the Imperial armies sent to fight them. Emperor Romanos asks for the help of the Persians, and together, the Roman-Persian armies defeat the Seljuk forces at the Battle of Manzikert, later pushing them out of Asia Minor and slaughtering a large part of the Turkish population. A second Turkish invasion is halted in 1179 A.D., and once again with Persian help, the Seljuk Turks are finally defeated in the the Battle of Myriokephalon.
    ...............................................................................
  • In 1639 A.D., the death of the great emperor Julius Palaeologus Caelius, who during his reign, nearly brought the Empire back to its former glory, starts a civil war between his sons, Livius and August Palaeologus, a civil war that weakens the Imperium, but ends in the final victory of August Palaeologus, who later on marries a Princess of Wallachia, bringing the land of the Latin Vlachs in the Empire for the first time, although Wallachia is lost after his death.
