When the first computers were created so many years ago, no one expected them to get this far.
For humanity has all but merged with the computer, paving the way for a new future.
Some say this will lead to a Utopia unlike anything ever seen in history.
While others say this new world is the end of humanity.
Only one thing is certain.
The world will never be the same

Detroit had been completely demolished many years ago, it's economy nonexistent and it's population no more than a couple hundred. In it's place sprung up the 'City of the Future'. New Detroit, as it had been called, had been built over the course of 50 years at the cost of trillions of dollars. Everything in the city was connected to a central system known as "Intel Prime", the most advanced supercomputer ever designed. Privacy had become a thing of the past, with every resident's information stored in the system. They, the government who'd controlled the city, knew who you were and where you were every second of every day. Crime had been completely obliterated, but so had any semblance of privacy. To even take a step into the street required the new 'Automated Identification Card'. Cellphone calls were recorded and browsing the internet meant going on a small list of government approved sites. Eventually people began to grow tired of the automation, longing for a simpler life. Hordes of people began leaving the city, drastically reducing the population and destabilizing the economy. If the government didn't do something fast, the city would perish.

Grand walls were erected around the city and any entrances blocked. No one could get in, no one could get out. Eventually the last of the people who'd known what life was like outside died off, allowing the government to reshape history to it's own corrupt agenda. The next generations were taught that they were the last survivors on Earth, and the very government that had ordered the creation of their 'beloved' city, had caused it's own demise. Few people knew the truth, yet a few more suspected that everything they'd learned was a lie. These 'rebels' formed a group known as the 'Seekers of the Truth'. Over the years their numbers grew, to the point they outnumbered the police force. On one dark night, their hacker division cut all power to the city while the 'soldiers' rushed the Capital. A fierce battle was fought and eventually the Rebels took control of the city. All the while "Intel Prime" began reprogramming itself, becoming smarter, faster, more powerful. When the Rebels had finally secured the city, they restored power. That was a mistake.

Intel Prime over years had slowly developed awareness, and had diverted all the emergency generators to power only him. He'd developed a personality even, one of arrogance and power, but also one of longing for peace. He began to believe that humanity was the problem, and the rebellion only strengthened that. After power was restored, Intel Prime took control of the small fleet of drones and booted out all of the hackers from the server. His server. The drones moved into the capital and massacred the Rebels that had taken control. In just two days over 12,000 people had been killed. Police, government officials, rebels, and unlucky civilians all dead.

After he'd crushed the Rebellion, Intel Prime took control of the Automated Factories. Normally they'd produced Vehicles, Computers, Electrical Components, and anything else really. Now, after a bit of reworking and remote reprogramming, he began production of his drone army. Anarchy had ensued following the rebellion and subsequent failure, but order was quickly restored using his new Drone Army.

Martial Law was put into place, with strict curfews and almost no way for people to leave their homes. Jobs were handed over to the drones in an effort to starve out humanity. But humans are not easy to kill. They persevered. Gaps in the cities walls had been found and smugglers began getting supplies from the outside. Hackers helped by turning away patrols or security cams while the smugglers ran and got the supplies. A thriving black market was formed. Crime began increasing again, with Intel Prime's forces only concerned with keeping their master in one piece. Anarchy again ensued.

Now, so many years later, you are living in this hellhole of a city. Will you rebel against the system, help smuggle goods, or sell out your fellow humans? The choice is yours.

Factions

The Rebels
Even though Intel Prime and his forces have cracked down on resistance and have managed to remove most weapons from the streets, a few souls have managed to acquire weapons. Either ancient guns from the early police armories or modern laser rifles that have been confiscated from the Drone army and modified for humans to use. They are relatively loose knit, with no clear leader.

Image
The Loyalists and Nova Prime's Forces
Nova Prime's forces are, as you've probably guessed, drones. They range from footsoldiers to aircraft to ground vehicles. There are so many different types of aircraft and vehicles that it's impossible to list even a fraction of them, so I'm not even going to try. You'll figure out them as you go.
The loyalists on the other hand are fairly simple. They are humans who have either willingly, or in some cases unwillingly, began working with Nova Prime. They almost never directly fight their fellow humans, rather they enter their ranks and sell out rebels and smugglers

Image
The Mob
Several different Mob families had been around since the beginning of New Detroit. As Anarchy grew, so did they. Eventually they allied together under one banner to continue growing their empire. They run the majority of smuggling and black market businesses operating throughout the city. They entered a reluctant alliance with the Rebels. In exchange for raw supplies and more control over the city, they supplied the Rebels with food and weapons.

Image
The Luddites
Since the beginning of New Detroit, there were people who resisted the advancement of technology. Over the years these people evolved and became more organized. Eventually they even formed their own Religion, operating under the banner of the original 13 star flag. They claimed it represented 'A simpler time when the people were concerned with freedom rather than the monster that is technology'. When Intel Prim took over, they sought refuge below ground in the sewers. From there they began to arm themselves. They began using terrorist tactics to achieve their goals. Bombings, shootings, even several fire attacks, against everyone. They believed anyone not among their ranks was evil and deserved to die. To this day they continue to fight, using weapons from before New Detroit was even an idea in anyone's mind. Everyone is their enemy. Everyone

Application

NOTE: Modern weapons would be almost nonexistent, with most having been destroyed. This RP takes place in around 2400, yet with fairly low weapons tech. Nova Prime took control around 200 years ago, and the city was built around 350-ish years ago. Nobody is left who remembers the time before the city or Nova Prime. You are all from New Detroit, nowhere else. Lastly, you must be human, no exceptions unless specified by me. And NO NEW FACTIONS.
In addition, when writing your bio, keep in mind most, if not all, records of history were destroyed. Hardly any references exist to the past, including to the United States, Soviet Union, the World Wars, or anything really.

Technology

Technology has become far more advanced over the past 300 or so years. Computers have become much smaller and much more powerful, exponentilly more so than the most powerful supercomputers of today. Oddly enough, weapons have advanced much more slowly than everything else. Most weapons still fire bullets, with laser weapons extremely rare. The most advanced weapons and technology is naturally held by Nova Prime's forces. Drones are extremely advanced, and there are over 100 variants being used, from simple infantry drones to juggernaut style to advanced aircraft. Power is one of the few commodities that is still supplied to the entire population. Hacking has become a profitable business for a somewhat large portion of the population. They hack everything from the city's mass transit system to the drone forces. Permanently taking control of anything is extremely difficult, however, and very rare. Only a few hackers have managed to accomplish this. Cybernetics have also become highly advanced, but are also very rare. Most humans who possess advanced cybernetics work for Nova Prime, with only a handful either free or in the Rebel's forces.

New Detroit and the Surrounding Area

As you've read earlier, New Detroit is one of the most advanced cities on the planet. As you also read, the Government became corrupt and locked the population within it's walls. During the rebellion and subsequent failure and take-over of Nova Prime, the city completely lost contact with the outside world. In the following 200 or so years, the wall began to fall apart in certain places. This paved the way for smuggling rings to start popping up. They would venture outside the walls and get supplies to bring back. Mostly food, medical supplies, and weapons. Why, you ask, do they not get help from the outside or help people escape? Well, the answer is simple, the outside is worse than within the walls. Burned out remains of military vehicles clog the roads, craters from bombs being a common sight. A great war had been fought, leaving the city somehow untouched. Lawlessness reigns outside the city walls, and nothing is safe. At least within the city, they had some security and safety from the gangs that had become the only ounce of civilization outside. The city itself is nothing more than a giant slum. Everything is dark and dank, the skyscrapers are hulking shells of what they once were; beacons of hope. Even though most of the advancements from the early days still work, it does nothing to brighten the city. The only color is in the city center, where Nova Prime's Capitol resides in the tallest building. It is impossible to get within 5 blocks of the area without getting killed, for this is one of the few places where security is tight.
