Got the greenlight from Jaclean. Quick Q though - would it make sense to have a relatively low-ranked courtier in the Council meeting? My gut says no but just wanted to make sure before making an opening post

Oof, might have over-done the Gossip Girls routine, but I'm afraid that I was fairly bored today. Promise I'll try to keep the teen fanfic writing style to a minimum. Bit of a separate note, anyone got any ideas what courtiers and noblewomen actually talked about? Drawing up some mighty blanks on my end.

Also, apologies for introducing random characters left-right-and-centre. Only really noticed that I probably pushed it a bit too far after writing the post. I'll try to put up some NPC apps for the Kinleys and Laura so that anyone could RP as them for interactions/plots/etc. Assuming it's all fine with the OP of course, I'm more than willing to make edits if I stepped on any toes.

The common farmer in the capitol does probably not know him, just as an average american will not know all the goveneurs of all the other US States, but I guess someone aspiring to be a Spymaster would definitely be in the know.

Bio: Duke Sandros of the House Vesperan was the oldest son of Duke Timaeus, and inherited the small, yet significant Duchy of Pontiana, when he was 20 years old. When he was a boy, Sandros underwent the typical education of the Vesperan men: he was taught history, philosophy, law, and, when he was old enough, he was taken on as a squire by his father and was taught how to fight, in addition to those subjects. Once he grew older, he was considered one of the more learned lords of the Empire, as well as one of the most charitable, using the profits derived from his duchy's immense agricultural and trade operations to fund the construction of hospitals, aqueducts, roads, even schools for children to learn literacy. However, while the young duke tends to be charitable and kind in his rule, he is cynical and wary when it comes to his dealings with other nobles, particularly the increasingly fragile Emperor. How he tends to act in the coming months will be a matter of speculation until the duke himself makes his intentions known. Being one of the younger members of the Council, Sandros has always been wary of the motives and machinations of the older Council members.

Geography: The Duchy of Pontiana is situated in the fertile river lands that are fed by the River Enz, making it one of the bread baskets of the Empire, or, to be more precise, the primary contributor of agricultural products to the Imperial capital. The Duchy itself is not remarkable in size, being one of the smaller duchies in the Empire, but it has a number of villages, small towns, and the occasional large town - not including the castles belonging to the duchy's knights. The capital, Enzpolis, is situated on the River Enz, and after generations of good harvests and mostly good stewardship, the capital possesses stout, stone walls, a bustling marketplace, a center for higher learning, and, of course, the great Vesperan Citadel.

Keros Sat cross legged in the Yurt, his father to his right, Chieftain of the tribe Tairun Malikson Kalder. Chieftain for the last eighteen years Tairun was the only one to sit in a chair. Ornately carved and designed the dark wood of the chair was light allowing it to be easily moved from camp to camp.

Unlike his father who sat in one of few or possibly the only chair in his encampment, Keros and the others gathered sat on cushioned rugs with furs softening the ground surrounding them many lounged though the conversation was one of more serious matters.

"My Chieftain," One of the advisers spoke. "To send your heir to the Imperial Court seems maddening in such times, would Keros not be more fitting here with you and one of us sent in his stead?"

Tairun Scratched at his thick black beard. He contemplated the man's words before slowly shaking his head and grunting.

"No, I truly share your fears and sentiment Mautak but it is time for Keros to begin taking the responsibilities of the Tribe as his own. It will be the only way he learns to lead." Tairun grunted again patting his son on the shoulder.

As the advisers and gathered tribesmen acknowledged the Chieftain's decree they slowly drifted out of the Yurt. Till only five warriors remained and Keros and Tairun.

"Keros, these warrior will follow you to the capital to protect you and show a small amount of force to the Empire that we will not be trifled with any longer. Vahn will be your second, he has seen war all his life, Vilda and Talma his daughters will be your body guards, and Melid and Athar will provide more muscle if need be to show them we are serious."

The five warriors pressed their right arms to their chest over their heart and bowed to the Prince. They would all be leaving for the capital in the morning, a place Keros had been to only once as a young child. Keros saluted his father and the six warriors exited the yurt and prepared to leave.

I want to clarify this about Kasqyn. There are a handful of lords there. The Empire did what it usually does when it conquered Kasqyn, force out locals and place supportive lords in power. So it would have been the Empire to divide Kasqyn between the various lords, some of which would be reluctant to oppose the Empire with the mountain clans raiding fiercely. Still, Oswin could sway them to oppose the Empire.
