Yes, even the mightiest of blazes would not exist,
If it did not have the source from which to draw its power from.
The variety of these branches reaches far and wide.
From short to long,
From thin and thick,
From oak to maple.
They each remain as individual pieces,
Until a Spark travels into their midst.
Then, slowly but surely,
They combine together to make a massive flame.
Kindle, seek your Spark in the Kingdom of Lordrain,
Slay those who sit decrepit in their thrones,
And reignite the Fire that slowly fades.
For the Age of Fire to continue,
Fuel must be added to the Fire.
Without it,
An Age of Darkness will reign.
The Fire is fading in the Kindom of Lordrain, and it will be up to the mortals known as Kindle to collect the souls of powerful beings in hopes of reigniting the Fire once again.
This is both a Character and a World Building RP, based on the video game series known as Dark Souls, infamous for both its challenging gameplay and its cryptic lore. This RP's setting will be taking place in between the events of Dark Souls II and Dark Souls III during one of the countless cycles of reigniting the constantly fading flame. The area that the story takes place in is known as Lordrain, a kingdom which flourished during the Age of Fire but has begun to become dark and decrepit as the Fire fades.
The playable characters in this story will be known as Kindle. They are men and women who were given the fate of reigniting the Fire with the power of their souls. Similar to Embers in Dark Souls III, Kindles will use what will be known as Sparks to help them fight against the various beings and creatures they will encounter on their journey. Due to their connection with the Fire, should they perish in battle (Or think that there was in hidden path off of the cliff, when in fact, there was no hidden path), they will return to the world at the last bonfire that they had established. For most of the Kindle, outside of the trauma that dying would initially cause them, this will not be an issue. However, if one is branded with the Curse of the Undead, if they continue to die and are unable to regain humanity, they will slowly go insane until they reach the point of no return and become a soulless fighting corpse with no emotion or past memories. While all characters will start their adventures in the same location, they do not necessarily have to interact with one another. If one wishes to go at it alone, he or she may do so. Likewise, if you wish to team up with others along the way you may do that as well. Finally, if one wishes to attack another character, you may do that as well.
The RP will be broken down into chapters, with each chapter beginning in a new area of Lordrain and ending with the final boss encounter. At the beginning of the RP, characters will choose one of the 10 Starting Classes and will be equipped with the starting gear and stats. It will be up to them to gain experience and find new spells, items, armors, and weapons to use as they travel through the RP. However, they will need to have the required stats to use them. Thus, at the end of each chapter, characters will be able to level up their various stats. The amount of leveling up they can do will be based on their performance throughout the chapter.
As mentioned earlier, this is not only a Character RP but also a World Building RP. While the general lore of the existing games will stay in place, this is still much to be learned and discovered in this realm. Thus, those who participate will have the ability to offer their own suggestions for enemies, spells, armor, equipment, items, NPCs, events, covenants, and bosses. While it's completely acceptable to base your ideas off one of the existing games or even directly copy some of them, this is an opportunity for any fan of the series to put forth their imagination of what they've always wanted in a Souls Game.
It should be noted that, while this is not limited to those who have played the games, it will be hard for those who do not have experience with them to actively participate in this RP. I'm not limiting this to anyone who is interested, but I will give definitely recommend that anyone that has yet to delve into the series to ask for help before trying to do anything drastic. For those who fall into that category, I recommend watching a few videos on the gameplay of all three games, more specifically Dark Souls III as it is the newest installment, as well as reading through this to try and get a better understanding of the series.
Also, while this may surprise some by the lengths I've put into just making this OOC, this is my first RP that I myself have made. I'll make mistakes, and if you feel like I'm being unreasonable or unfair, tell me either privately or through the OOC. I promise I won't bite
1. OP's word is law as well as anyone appointed by myself as a Mod.
2. While basic NPCs, enemies, and loot found are under the control of the RPer, bosses and events are under my control.
3. Be fair with your fighting ability and your loot that is found. While I don't want to, if you singlehandedly kill a massive horde of enemies without so much as taking a single blow even during the later portions of the RP or if you "discover" extremely powerful loot from a dead body of a rat, I'm going to step in and say no. Just be smart guys.
4. As is with the game, death should be a fairly frequent occurrence for characters, especially during the beginning parts of the RP. Don't be afraid to die a miserable death, as you'll be able to come back to do it all over again until you finally succeed.
5. Character vs. Character fighting is allowed, but keep things civil between yourselves and no metagaming. If possible, discuss amongst yourselves through TGs about how you want the fight to go down. Nobody wants a page full of three sentence paragraphs done exclusively between two RPers about how one took a swing at the other and the other missed and swung back, only for him to miss and the cycle being repeated
6. All characters, NPCs, events, areas, covenants, bosses, items, weapons, spells, and armors made by an RPer must be applied for. I'm fine if you want a drake that shoots laser beams out of his eyeballs, just for the love of Christ just tell me first.
7. Understandably, the lore that surrounds Dark Souls is very vague and cryptic. While I'm not discouraging one from referencing what could be defined as "unclear" lore, be sure to run it by me first to make sure that it's not contradicting what lore has already been put into place.
8. I'm fine with whatever severity of language, violence, gore, etc, that you use, as long as it's for a purpose rather than "That ***** went up that *****'s *** and then chopped off her head and ****** it just because he thought it would be cool. If another RPer's language does bother you, address them directly, either privately or on the OOC. If issues still arise, contact me and I'll decide the course of action. I like to let people's imagination run wild, and the better you paint a picture with your words the better.
9. For those who either don't want to or don't have the time, you do not have to make a custom armor, weapon, shield, etc, and are allowed to use any non-boss specific weapon, armor, shield, etc, from the games. Examples of acceptable weapons/armor/etc would be the longsword, uchigatana, chainmail, estus flasks, etc. Examples of non-acceptable weapons would be Twin-Princes great sword, Frieda's Scythe, Undead Legion armor, etc.
10. Have fun!
