Dark Souls: Kindling to the Fire (OOC, OPEN)

IC
Introduction

Before the Fire, there must be Kindling.
Yes, even the mightiest of blazes would not exist,
If it did not have the source from which to draw its power from.
The variety of these branches reaches far and wide.
From short to long,
From thin and thick,
From oak to maple.
They each remain as individual pieces,
Until a Spark travels into their midst.
Then, slowly but surely,
They combine together to make a massive flame.

Kindle, seek your Spark in the Kingdom of Lordrain,
Slay those who sit decrepit in their thrones,
And reignite the Fire that slowly fades.
For the Age of Fire to continue,
Fuel must be added to the Fire.
Without it,
An Age of Darkness will reign.

The Fire is fading in the Kindom of Lordrain, and it will be up to the mortals known as Kindle to collect the souls of powerful beings in hopes of reigniting the Fire once again.

Explanation

This is both a Character and a World Building RP, based on the video game series known as Dark Souls, infamous for both its challenging gameplay and its cryptic lore. This RP's setting will be taking place in between the events of Dark Souls II and Dark Souls III during one of the countless cycles of reigniting the constantly fading flame. The area that the story takes place in is known as Lordrain, a kingdom which flourished during the Age of Fire but has begun to become dark and decrepit as the Fire fades.

The playable characters in this story will be known as Kindle. They are men and women who were given the fate of reigniting the Fire with the power of their souls. Similar to Embers in Dark Souls III, Kindles will use what will be known as Sparks to help them fight against the various beings and creatures they will encounter on their journey. Due to their connection with the Fire, should they perish in battle (Or think that there was in hidden path off of the cliff, when in fact, there was no hidden path), they will return to the world at the last bonfire that they had established. For most of the Kindle, outside of the trauma that dying would initially cause them, this will not be an issue. However, if one is branded with the Curse of the Undead, if they continue to die and are unable to regain humanity, they will slowly go insane until they reach the point of no return and become a soulless fighting corpse with no emotion or past memories. While all characters will start their adventures in the same location, they do not necessarily have to interact with one another. If one wishes to go at it alone, he or she may do so. Likewise, if you wish to team up with others along the way you may do that as well. Finally, if one wishes to attack another character, you may do that as well.

The RP will be broken down into chapters, with each chapter beginning in a new area of Lordrain and ending with the final boss encounter. At the beginning of the RP, characters will choose one of the 10 Starting Classes and will be equipped with the starting gear and stats. It will be up to them to gain experience and find new spells, items, armors, and weapons to use as they travel through the RP. However, they will need to have the required stats to use them. Thus, at the end of each chapter, characters will be able to level up their various stats. The amount of leveling up they can do will be based on their performance throughout the chapter.

As mentioned earlier, this is not only a Character RP but also a World Building RP. While the general lore of the existing games will stay in place, this is still much to be learned and discovered in this realm. Thus, those who participate will have the ability to offer their own suggestions for enemies, spells, armor, equipment, items, NPCs, events, covenants, and bosses. While it's completely acceptable to base your ideas off one of the existing games or even directly copy some of them, this is an opportunity for any fan of the series to put forth their imagination of what they've always wanted in a Souls Game.

Disclaimer

It should be noted that, while this is not limited to those who have played the games, it will be hard for those who do not have experience with them to actively participate in this RP. I'm not limiting this to anyone who is interested, but I will give definitely recommend that anyone that has yet to delve into the series to ask for help before trying to do anything drastic. For those who fall into that category, I recommend watching a few videos on the gameplay of all three games, more specifically Dark Souls III as it is the newest installment, as well as reading through this to try and get a better understanding of the series.

Also, while this may surprise some by the lengths I've put into just making this OOC, this is my first RP that I myself have made. I'll make mistakes, and if you feel like I'm being unreasonable or unfair, tell me either privately or through the OOC. I promise I won't bite too hard.
Rules

1. OP's word is law as well as anyone appointed by myself as a Mod.
2. While basic NPCs, enemies, and loot found are under the control of the RPer, bosses and events are under my control.
3. Be fair with your fighting ability and your loot that is found. While I don't want to, if you singlehandedly kill a massive horde of enemies without so much as taking a single blow even during the later portions of the RP or if you "discover" extremely powerful loot from a dead body of a rat, I'm going to step in and say no. Just be smart guys.
4. As is with the game, death should be a fairly frequent occurrence for characters, especially during the beginning parts of the RP. Don't be afraid to die a miserable death, as you'll be able to come back to do it all over again until you finally succeed.
5. Character vs. Character fighting is allowed, but keep things civil between yourselves and no metagaming. If possible, discuss amongst yourselves through TGs about how you want the fight to go down. Nobody wants a page full of three sentence paragraphs done exclusively between two RPers about how one took a swing at the other and the other missed and swung back, only for him to miss and the cycle being repeated until OP throws his computer at the wall and screams in loud Finnish about how stupid you are.
6. All characters, NPCs, events, areas, covenants, bosses, items, weapons, spells, and armors made by an RPer must be applied for. I'm fine if you want a drake that shoots laser beams out of his eyeballs, just for the love of Christ just tell me first. Actually please don't make that.
7. Understandably, the lore that surrounds Dark Souls is very vague and cryptic. While I'm not discouraging one from referencing what could be defined as "unclear" lore, be sure to run it by me first to make sure that it's not contradicting what lore has already been put into place.
8. I'm fine with whatever severity of language, violence, gore, etc, that you use, as long as it's for a purpose rather than "That ***** went up that *****'s *** and then chopped off her head and ****** it just because he thought it would be cool. If another RPer's language does bother you, address them directly, either privately or on the OOC. If issues still arise, contact me and I'll decide the course of action. I like to let people's imagination run wild, and the better you paint a picture with your words the better. Besides, blood makes the grass grow.
9. For those who either don't want to or don't have the time, you do not have to make a custom armor, weapon, shield, etc, and are allowed to use any non-boss specific weapon, armor, shield, etc, from the games. Examples of acceptable weapons/armor/etc would be the longsword, uchigatana, chainmail, estus flasks, etc. Examples of non-acceptable weapons would be Twin-Princes great sword, Frieda's Scythe, Undead Legion armor, etc.
10. Have fun! :p

Character Application

*In regards to appearance, please provide details on your character with and without their armor. This is important because, throughout the RP, you'll likely change your armor and equipment but your basic looks will stay the same. If possible, provide a screenshot of your character in either of the three games, specifically Dark Souls III as it has the best quality of graphics.

*In regards to Covenants, you do not necessarily need to choose one from the beginning. You can choose one of the existing ones that I will provide or, if approved by me, you can choose your own Covenant. In order to join a Covenant after your initial creation, your character will have to seek the leader of the Covenant and obtain an item that will show your allegiance to said Covenant. While you may switch Covenants as you wish, once you leave a Covenant you may not rejoin it. Choose wisely.

Covenants

Warriors of Sunlight
Covenant Leader: Statue of the Former War God
Covenant Items: Sunlight Medals
Covenant Rewards: Sacred Oath and Great Lightning Spear
Role: Cooperative
Allies: None
Enemies: None
Description: A Covenant honoring a long forgotten War God, Warriors of Sunlight have only one purpose in their lives, and that is to help others along their paths. Friendly to all, Warriors of Sunlight will not hesitate to help a stranger in times of need. Warriors of Sunlight will wear a small talisman around their neck with a crudely made image of a sun on it. Anyone who wishes to join the Warriors of Sunlight is welcome, and those who abandon the path are free to do so without threat of retaliation.

Blades of the Darkmoon
Covenant Leader: Knight Ariel
Covenant Items: Proof of Concord Kept
Covenant Rewards: Darkmoon Ring and Darkmoon Blade
Role: Attacking and Defending
Allies: Way of White
Enemies: Red Serpents and Grave Robbers
Description: A Covenant shrouded in secrecy, the Blades of the Darkmoon serve the Gods themselves, acting as punishment for those who would defy the will of the Gods. They are in an active state of conflict with the Red Serpents and Grave Robbers whom they perceive as heretics. They will also go to great lengths to protect those who follow the Way of White should they come under attack. Blades of the Darkmoon will wear a distinctive black sash around their waist that indicates their status. To get into the Covenant is no easy task, as Knight Ariel will judge the character of any man or woman who tries to join, and if she is not pleased they will not be allowed entry. Leaving the Blades of the Darkmoon is seen as an act of betrayal and deserters will be seen as untrustworthy and unworthy of assistance. The only exception to this is for those who follow the Way of White.

Way of White
Covenant Leader: Priest Dunham
Covenant Items: Favors of the Gods
Covenant Rewards: Priest Talisman and Divine Mace
Role: Cooperative
Allies: Blades of the Darkmoon
Enemies: Red Serpents and Grave Robbers
Description: A Covenant devoted to following the will of the Gods, followers of the Way of Light seek to do everything within their power to keep the Fire going. Many members of this Covenant are Clerics, but their members are as diverse as the Gods they serve. They are friendly to most, with the exception of those known to be afflicted with the Curse of the Undead, who they will actively seek to try and destroy. This makes them a mortal enemy of the Grave Robbers. With the exception of those afflicted with the Curse, anyone may enter the Covenant. Leaving the Way of White, however, is seen as an act of heresy and those who do will often be treated as a foe. The exception to this is those who join the Blades of the Darkmoon. Members will wear a necklace with a small white circle, indicating their allegiance to the Gods.

Red Serpent
Covenant Leader: Lucier Andren
Covenant Items: Ears of the Victim
Covenant Rewards: Obscuring Ring and Cursed Dagger
Role: Attacking
Allies: None
Enemies: Everyone
Description: What could be described less as a Covenant and more of a murderous band of thieves, the Red Serpents actively go out and attack others in hopes of looting the souls of their victims in an attempt to make them more powerful. They choose indiscriminately, even against their own members. Indeed, one would be wise to watch their backs in this Covenant. It's as easy to enter this Covenant as it is to leave it. The somewhat-trustworthy Lucier Andren, who acts as a sort of "Leader" of the Covenant, makes it clear that this way of life is not one for the faint of heart, and those who are not ready for it should leave before it ends up killing them. Members wear a distinct red ring around their left hand, an image of a snake adorned on it.

Grave Robbers
Covenant Leader: Lord Robin
Covenant Items: Humanity
Covenant Rewards: Bloodlust Katana and Life Drain
Role: Attacking
Allies: None
Enemies: Way of White and Blades of the Darkmoon
Description: A very obscure Covenant, the Grave Robbers consist of those afflicted with the Curse of the Undead. Members, in desperation to keep their sanity, will attack others in hopes of stealing whatever humanity they may hold. It is ironic, since the amount of bloodshed required to keep one's "humanity" means that one must forsake his or her own morals. While they will target anyone, they are specifically hateful towards those who follow the Way of White. Their leader is a lord of a faraway kingdom who was banished after it was found out that he was afflicted with the curse. There are whispers, however, that someone, or rather, something else was pulling the strings in the background. Members will tie various bones to their waists as an indicator of their deeds.

The Ashen Guard
Covenant Leader: Quartermaster Rethyld
Covenant Items: Gauntlet of Ash
Covenant Rewards: Level 10: Shield of the Guard, Level 30: Greatsword of Lordrain
Role: Attacking, Endurance (Stamina-high.).
Allies: The Warriors of Sunlight, semi-allied to the Way of Light.
Enemies: The Red Serpent, the Grave Robbers.
Description: The Ashen Guard are the elite group of soldiers dedicated to fighting for the King of Lordrain, as well as fighting for and aiding the kingdom itself. Members of the Covenant are harshly trained, and are taught for years the ideals of their duty via vigorous training. Once made members of order, they are personally bestowed by the King, marking an end to their training, given the Gauntlet of Ash, which permanently is stabbed into your upper arm, unable to be removed for the rest of one's existence. Soldiers of the order are usually taught to have ferocity in their attacks, making them very attuned to offensively based fighting techniques rather than defensive, thus relying on speedy rolls rather than shields for the most part. Higher ups are allowed a little more flexibility in their arrangement, compared to the norms of the order. They are then either assigned guard duty to the king, or sent out on various tasks to help the lands of Lordrain. Members are marked by their Gauntlets received at their inauguration into the order.

I'd like to as well.

Hopefully soon we'll have enough of a player base so that I can begin to make the IC.

If I may recommend, the sheer number of applications may be overwhelming to some. I believe taking out the applications for areas, equipment, etc. would make the RP seem easier to join and more welcoming.

-Sprinting Slash: Sprints and makes two slashes, vertical, then horizontal
-Slash Combo: Combo of slashes, randomly ranging from 3-5 strikes
Strategies: The knight will lean forward before beginning its sprinting slash, rolling to either side as it begins its attack will cause the knight to miss and become open for a backstab. Slash combos are medium speed and can be avoided by either rolling away from or behind the knight.

Loot dropped: Bastard Sword, Dolorous Knight Shield, Lifegem, Firebomb, Dolorous Knight Set

Abilities (2nd Stage):
-Impale: Aims blade at player before dashing and impaling. Cannot be blocked
-Quick Slash: See Above
-Heavy Slash: See Above
-Dark Talons: Aims with free arm, firing five dark bolts at player. Cannot be blocked
-Dark Slash: Imbues blade with a dark aura, before charging at player with one devastating swing
-Heretic's Touch: Grabs at player with free arm, causing dark and poison damage
Strategies: Avoiding Impale, Dark Talons and Slash Barrage is paramount. Dark Slash can be blocked, but avoidance is better. NS Name: Fiery Armageddon
Character Name: Aldritch Vikir "the Unnamed", "the Executioner".
Sex: Male
Relative Age: 37
Class: Warrior
Covenant: The Ashen Guard
Personality: Stone-cold, unforgiving, ferocious in combat. Only in great trust will he act more friendly towards one person.
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Is your character afflicted with the Curse of the Undead: No
Appearance: For Face (Shaved version of hair and scar running along right eye.)
For Armor (Minus the mask, and instead the hood covers the face):
Bio: Much is unknown about Aldritch from his childhood, much like most Kindles, besides one horrid incident. Caught in the middle of a battlefield, Aldritch's family was slaughtered before his own eyes, only able to fend off the demon for so long before being slashed across the face and put put of combat. Aldritch saw death in the beast's eyes, just before a member of the faithful Ashen Guard rushed the beast, running it through with the Knight's greatsword. With nothing left to lose and nowhere to go, Aldritch immediately set off to the Palace of the King in order to begin his training to become a member of the Guard. Initially laughed at for his mysteriousness and showing up out of nowhere, Aldritch quickly made his leaders realize the young fighter's determination in practice. After years of training, Aldritch was finally knighted a Guard, earning the title of "the Unnamed" due to his mysterious origins to the King. Years went on, and Aldritch completed many high-risk missions for the King, allowing for him to earn respect among his Guardsmen who questioned his use of High-Stamina rolls and dodges paired with a large Great Axe. Aldritch, in these years, was also given the title of "the Executioner" for preforming a multitude of executions, some public, in the name of justice.

Name of Covenant: The Ashen Guard

Thought I could finally get back into RPing, if you need help, I can try to help develop some other things such as armor and things of the such.
You're average kind fellow, who secretly runs an oppressive dictatorship on a brilliant website. Love it.

Abilities: Shadiman uses the following Miracles Sunlight Spear, Great Heal, Magic Barrier,Force ,Emit Force, Caressing Tears
Tear of Denial

make capitalizing on that vulnerability difficult.

Shadiman charges the player
Shadiman swipes the player with right paw then left then it right paw
Shadiman uses emit force
Shadiman will cast Magic barrier only if player uses spell against him
Shadiman will cast Caressing Tear only if player tries to bleed/ poison him

Stage Two At fifty percent health
Shadiman will jump back from the player and cast Great Heal
Shadiman will jump behind it player and will try to swipe the player from behind
Shadiman will pounce one the player pinning them to ground and then will repeatedly shoot the pinned player with sunlight spears until they die It is telegraphed by Shadiman shouting" DIE BLASPHEMER" or if your deal dark damage to him "ROT IN ABYSS".

Stage Three thirty percent health
Shadiman is now thirty percent faster
Shadiman will jump back from the player and use Tears Denial
Shadiamn swipe attacks will trigger between one and six time instead of three

Do we apply Armours, Shields, etc for our character to use? Or just to add more variety?

No, they're simply if you wish to add custom armors, shields, weapons, etc. If not, any non-boss weapon from any of the games are appropriate.

Probably should have explained that further. I apologize, like I said, my first RP
