Alright, this is the final app.

Name of Nation: Esternial
Character’s Full Name: Joanna Fisher
Character Alias(es):
Character Gender: F
Character’s Chronological Age: 28
Age they Appear: 28
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Nationality: American (w/ German roots)
Character Face Claim: Gummer, Grace (link)
Personality: Joanna has always been a fairly no-nonsense kind of gal. She's nice as long as she has a reason to and doesn't like to play pretend just to play politics or for personal gain, though she has been known to put those principles aside when it serves a bigger purpose. Despite getting closer to thirty she's still a bit of a child at heart and when she's home all by herself she shows herself to be a completely different person. At work, she's a very capable woman with a good career and impeccable performance. Strong-willed and confident. At home, she's a recluse who barely knows how to take care of herself and plays videogames, binge-watches series or browses online forums. Has some mild social anxiety.

Powers & Limitations: The collective term for all of Joanna's abilities is referred to as "Absolute Zero" and, as one can probably deduce, revolves around very low temperatures. Whenever she uses her power too much, she gets a migraine which she jokingly refers to as "brainfreeze". As a consequence, using her abilities for too long or to too great an extent inevitably causes a headache so severe she is more liable to lose focus. The extent of her power and the area she can affect are theoretically unlimited, but due to the drawback of using her power she

Passively, her power causes her skin to be cold to the touch and the temperature to be a few degrees lower in her vicinity. But, when actively using her power, she can accomplish more useful feats, outlined below:
- Freezing: Actively lower the temperature. She can slowly cause the temperature to sink or flash freeze everything in an instant,
- Ice Manipulation: Create ice constructs out of thin air or manipulate pre-existing ice formations.
- Timelock: The most advanced ability Joanna is currently capable of. This application of her power freezes time itself, causing time to slow down or completely stop. This is exceptionally useful in a pinch, but stopping time for even a few seconds already causes a severe headache, and may cause unconsciousness.

Biography: Despite her innate transcendent ability, Joanna has lived a normal childhood, through great effort of her parents. Faced with a power they did not understand, her mother and father went through great effort to help her control it. This emphasis on control prevented her from fully exploring its limits, but thanks to that she could also spend the majority of her early life as a normal child. Fortunately, Joanna passed through puberty with remarkable grace and didn't accidentally freeze her class during an emotional episode after a particularly nasty comment from the class bitch. Joanna knew the repercussions of losing control, and because of that she was forced to grow up really fast, really soon. People that never really had a childhood sometimes tend to make up for lost time when they finally gain independence, and Joanna was exactly like that.
Once she got to college, she developed a more cheerful and laid-back attitude. At that age, she had a firm grasps on her power and managed to restrain herself. Occasionally she used to pull a prank or cool down a can of soda really fast, but she did nothing egregious. Jojo, as her friends called her back then, was a popular college student, despite not being what you'd call sociable. She was smart and beautiful, which naturally attracts people who want to bask in your glory. Jojo didn't quite care about all that, which somehow made people like her more. All the attention made her feel uncomfortable, but she soldiered on and graduated summa cum laude in analytical chemistry. She could've landed a PhD without too much effort, but instead she chose to become a forensic scientists, because Batman killed her parents and she wanted to fight crime in her own way. That last sentence was false, by the way, she did what she wanted to do because she found it interesting, and in university she spent a lot of her days binge-watching NCIS.
RP Sample: Here's one.
Any Other Information: Currently employed as a forensics agent

I put Jeremie in another RP, but he's really OPed there >_> I raised his power level to match it. It's just for kicks, mostly, and no where near as serious as this.

Far over 9,000. I just hope some member doesn't look at it, and think that's what Jeremie is really like in this RP. That'd suck.

Name of Nation: Saint Ryvern
Character’s Full Name: Chenor Henley
Character Alias(es): N/A
Character Gender: Male
Character’s Chronological Age: 28
Age they Appear: 25 (he just looks young, no sorcery present)
Ethnicity: Chenor traces his heritage back to the Mandinka people of West Africa. Most people would call him “African-American” though.
Nationality: American
Character Face Claim: John David Washington
Personality: Chenor’s Myers-Briggs Type Index personality is ENFJ. Chenor is a natural-born leader. The man practically oozes charisma due to his ability to communicate with other people in an effective, compassionate manner. His greatest strength is his altruism, he always wants to be out helping other people or finding some way to help them. In his job as an editor this drives him to discover the truth, the truth that is necessary to satisfy the thirst of his paper’s readers, and the truth that will ultimately benefit them. This unyielding idealism is the fire in Chenor’s heart, but sometimes it burns too hot for his own good and he oftens feels pain when his ideals are resisted. His love for people, and his social situation, have fostered a tolerance inside of Chenor. This sometimes works for his benefit, since it adds to his natural charisma, but oftentimes it leads to selfless behavior that hinders his personal growth financially and emotionally. Chenor also displays an extreme sense of organization. This is a learned trait that was/is required of him in his early life, high school, university, and career. He does not detest disorganization, but simply seeks to correct it whenever he comes across it. He has bought a filing apparatus for more than one of his coworkers.
Powers & Limitations:
Powers:
  • Physiological Manipulation: The first of Chenor’s powers gives him the ability to control the basic and, with considerable effort, more complex functions of his body. Besides allowing him to hold his pee for a long time this enables Chenor to control his body temperature, cholesterol (à la Dwight Schrute), swelling, digestion (to a point), liver functions, emotions (also to a point), fingernail growth, and more. The absolute limit to this power is that, under extreme circumstances (stress, danger, dance off, etc), Chenor could slow his heart rate and brain waves to the point where he would appear to be dead.
  • Heightened Reflexes: This is more of a side effect than an individual power. Due to his increased control over his body, Chenor possesses heightened reflexes. Medically he would be classified as having grade 3 reflexes, meaning his are hyperactive without clonus (involuntary motions). Chenor’s abilities do go slightly beyond their medical classification, but he won’t be dodging any bullets. The most Mr. Miyagi thing he’s going to do is catch a fly between his hands, or paint your fence unbelievably fast.
Limitations:
  • Energy has to come from somewhere: Chenor may be able to defy the commonly accepted conception of human physiology, but he is still bound by the laws of physics. In order to make something happen inside his body the energy to make that thing happens need to be inside of his body. Example A, in order to speed up his liver’s processing of alcohol Chenor may have to cut off blood flow to his left foot.
  • He’s not in the Matrix: Just like it says, Chenor’s not in the Matrix. His reflexes are good, but that means he’s going to catch something if you drop it unexpectedly or break your ankles on the court, not dodge a bullet you shoot at him from five feet away (or from any distance, at that).
  • Only so much of “us” is “us”: There are a lot of bacteria that live within the human body. Chenor cannot control them directly. He can control the environment they are in to pull on their strings, but, unlike the absolute control he has over the enzymes and other assorted products his body produces, Chenor has no direct say in the activity of the bacteria inside of him.
  • Some things aren’t meant to be controlled: This relates to the “also to a point” in parentheses after “emotions.” There are some things about his body that Chenor is not meant to control. He can act as his own stimulant, or drug, when it comes to his emotions. This has resulted in addiction-like habits in the past, so Chenor steers clear of controlling how joyous (or disgusted, angry, sad, and/or afraid) he feels.

Biography: Chenor was the first of five children, and the only son, born to Matthias and Adama Henley at Mount Sinai St. Luke’s, several streets over from his father’s butcher shop in Harlem. The socioeconomic status that Chenor had in his early life was low, to say the least. Despite his difficult upbringing the boy was raised to have pride in himself, partially for his own sake but mostly so that the boy would have the necessary courage to stand up for his four younger sisters. His parents were aware of Chenor’s peculiarity, his transcendent nature, by the time he was entering grade school, but due to the subtly of his powers the boy was unaware himself. All Chenor knew was that when he scraped his knee and wished that the wound would heal faster, it did, but that he often threw up and had a splitting headache afterwards.

As he progressed through grade school Chenor became quite popular due to his natural-born charisma. Most of his classmates appreciated his genuine nature, those that did not were simply holding a grudge because he schooled them in basketball all day, every day (because of his heightened reflexes, though Chenor was unaware of the reasoning). When he turned 13 his parents told Chenor the truth about his reflexes, and the control he had over his own body. He was always taught to have pride in himself, so this message did not shake Chenor too much. What did scare him was the fact that his parents told him that he could tell no one about his “condition,” as they put it, not even his sisters. They knew the fear and loathing that people would feel if they knew someone like Chenor existed, and they could not run the risk of him getting hurt. This knowledge changed Chenor’s outlook on life, he remained cheery, he couldn’t stop that, but he started losing at basketball more often.

Now, there were some roadblocks along the way, such as his terrible school, bullies, and an unfriendly social climate, but Chenor managed to make it through high school to university, with a scholarship to play basketball at the University of Maryland, no less. Chenor does not feel guilty that he utilized his powers to elevate himself above the competition during his secondary education. The only time he stopped getting rebounds and stealing the ball was when the crowd starting whispering “he’s so good, he must be transcendent…” While at the University of Maryland, Chenor studied journalism and graduated in the typical four-year span. The battle that took place in Manhattan occurred during Chenor’s junior year, and the event simply fortified his beliefs that his powers must remain hidden from the world. His family did suffer during, and after, the battle. His father’s butcher shop suffered structural damage that required the building to be torn down; the business never truly recovered. His second sister lost her left leg and her boyfriend. All of his family members were deeply shaken by the cataclysm that happened in their city. Chenor was just glad they were all ok.

After graduating from Maryland, Chenor moved back to Harlem. He was a freelance journalist for two years before finding a permanent job at a small, localized paper called Veritas. Now Chenor has been there for four years, and is the editor of the entire paper. The journal specializes in sports, music, and, Chenor’s favorite, investigative journalism. The owner of the paper loves it when her writers pursue potentially wild tales about Transcendents. Chenor regrets this strategy, wishing to be as far away from his “kind” as possible, but he does as his boss wishes.
RP Sample:
The day is coming to a close, the sun slowly slipping behind the red brick and concrete of the city, as Chenor meanders through the computer aisle at his local electronics store. As lost as a mouse receiving multiple stimuli that pull its confounded nose in many different directions, Chenor is about to give up hope in his quest for a new laptop when a sleek model catches his eye. Picking up the device on display and examining the bottom, for some reason, Chenor feels like he has found “the one.”

“I like this...Elle won’t be able to make fun of my already decaying technical prowess if I bring this baby into work tomorrow. This thing is...smoking-oh shit it’s literally smoking!” The computer is, in fact, literally smoking. Actually, Chenor notices, all of the laptops and other assorted electronic devices in the mediocre-sized corner store have begun smoking at the exact same moment. Setting the computer he has been examining Chenor glances around the store for the old man who runs the place. Unable to find Bernie, whose house Chenor used to deliver the paper to, he catches the eye of the only other person in the store, a redheaded boy who is sweating profusely. In fact, there seems to be some sort of vapor coming off of the boy’s skin, the off white haze intermingling with the smoke hanging in the air.

“Hey son...are you ok? You don’t look so hot...” Chenor says stepping towards the pimple-faced youth. Just as Chenor begins approaching the boy the haze begins pouring off of his skin, and all of a sudden several of the electronic devices around him start flaming. “Kid, what are you doing? You shouldn’t conduct yourself this way, you’re not representing our-I mean your, kind very well,” as he mutters this with a sigh Chenor continues edging towards the clearly disturbed Transcendent.

“What the hell is happening out here!” Bernie roars as he rushes into the storefront from his back office, bat in hand. At the relatively non-threatening elderly man’s cry, as if signaled in some divine fashion, the smoke alarm starts to go off and water begins pouring down from the ceiling. At this, the tech-savvy Transcendent sprints out of the shop, high-end headphones in hand, out into the busy street. Chenor and Bernie both start after the boy, but Bernie slips and falls so Chenor cannot pursue the thief any further than a few steps outside of the door.

After getting Bernie some ice for his bruised hip, Chenor apologizes to the store owner for not acting sooner. “Eh, don’t blame yourself, son, blame those bastard Transcendents. First they wreck our city and now they wreck my livelihood. Humanity would be better off without their kind, we’d all be better off..” All Chenor can do to respond to that is chuckle and hope that his eyes don’t betray him.

Any Other Information: Chenor is the editor and a writer for a small newspaper (there are four writers on staff and twelve people total, counting the paper boys) in NYC called Veritas with the slogan “We’ll provide the wine if you bring the rest.” Despite its pretentious name the newspaper is terrible (enough so that a 28-year old without a master’s degree is its editor) and barely squeaks by every month (the owner of the paper, an elderly woman with millions to spare, often foots the bill).

You mention the cost of living in NYC in your post. Now I'm just musing here, but do you think the cost of living in the city would be significantly, or at least somewhat, lower in this world following Jeremie's attack? I mean, I'm sure some people would want to leave the city knowing such a powerful Transcendent capable of causing such destruction was still there. This might cause some places to lower their rent, and costs in general, to keep people around.

Yeah, I basically looked at a comparison of cost of living prices between Phoenix and NYC, and that's what it came up with.

I'll just assume that Jeremie's attack would cause some of the residents in the immediate vicinity to leave, and prices near there to lower their rent... But... it is NYC, and there is violence there in some parts that people just live with too... I also have no real idea where Richard's apartment is in relationship to Epique industries.

Good question!

I suppose you're right. People are always going to want to live in New York City, even with Jeremie there. You almost have to be nuts to want to live in that city. I believe Epique is in Manhattan though, and it would nice for things there to be cheaper!

I am not quite sure I understand the process of turing FC photo into a hyperlink...

Is it possible if I make the character to be human? Not powered in any way? Maybe as an Interpol or FBI investigating the curious case of Epique?

I plan on getting up an IC post today for the event, probably after school. Finals have been going on, and I've been focusing on those.
Depression kind of goes along with not being liked, especially when you ask for help, and don't get it. Remember that, okay? There are people who need someone, even if in a small way. Don't avoid them because of a misunderstanding, them having a bad day, and definitely not because everyone else does it. Even if it's just a fifteen minute conversation about nothing, it might help.

Out of curiosity, have you advertised this RP to let people know about it? If not, that would be a good thing to do.
Things Betwixt - A fantasy, with a team of 5 characters in your party. More about die rolling to decide things based on skill points, etc., than just random chance. I play 5 greedy goblins.
