Scythe Type: Emitter
Scythe Appearance:(Image)
Nior is on top, Weiss is on the bottom
Magic:
Noir: Demon Scythe, essentially channeling his mana through the book to form the scythes which he directs with his hands
Weiss: Prism Break, essentially using most, if not all, of his mana to form a hyper intense beam of magical energy that has the capability of clearing entire rooms of enemies in a single blow (has the possibility to be fatal depending on how hard he has fought)
Background
Education: Hunter's Woods High School
Relevant Experience:
The kid brother of Mitchell Blair, Robert mostly remained in the background of his family scene. Unlike his brother, he was more academically gifted, something his father and brother gave him trouble as he possessed little to none of the combative abilities of his brother, and even though he a year younger than his brother, he had yet to reach the height and physical stature of his brother. Which isn't helped by the fact that he suffers from Vitamin D Deficiency to the point where his body outright rejects any and all forms of Vitamin D.
While Mitchell and Robert don't get along from time to time, the two show an unnatural knack for working together and at times, pulling off the biggest pranks Hunter's Woods has seen. But where his passions really lie are in the weird and occult. Robert founded the Western District Paranormal Society and has been doing a lot of research into the past of Sunset Gates, which is helped by his volunteer time at the Town Library. He would also go hiking in the surrounding woods, when he wasn't running from the other people who went to Western.
He felt he had a rather normal life, but when his brother got a part time job, his world changed. He felt at uneasy around his brother, and when he tried to tell his parents about it, they dismissed it as an overactive imagination and told him to grow up. He began to drift further and further apart from Mitchell, and became desperate to prove that there wasn't something right about his brother.
After his brother dissappeared though, his parents were devistated. His family began organizing searches for Mitchell but after months of fruitless effort, they gave up and moved to Hunter's Woods. There Robert did his best to pick up the pieces and kept his hobbies alive, trying to put roots down here, but he felt like an outsider. So he began spending more and more time alone in his room or in the woods outside of town.
It wasn't long after that he noticed a job advertisment for "Soul Reaping", and his curiosity was stirred. He ended up going to the Glutton's Diner and picking up an application, partialy for extra cash, and partially to try to find out what really happened to Mitchel.
Personal Strengths and Weaknesses: He cannot process vitamin D and so his bones are weaker than that of his brothers, he also has a limp from when he broke his leg as a child and suffers from mild Asperger Syndrome, he has an IQ that approaches 175, and can mentally process math equations, riddles, and sees patterns faster than any human
Goals: To be the first one in his family to go to college and earn his Masters in Economics

Because if you do then I don't know what kind of scythe that is. Either Emitter or Familiar (because they talk like living beings). If they talk only with voices that only the Reaper could hear (or whatever, as long as they don't use mouth to speak) then I'll probably place them in Emitter-type.

Name: Valeria Ardenus
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Bisexual
Appearance: See Right(Image)
Scythe Name: Justinian (Usually just referred to as 'Justin')
Scythe Type: Familiar
Scythe Appearance: Raven
Magic: Valeria reveled in the stories of Magic her father would tell her about, but she most enjoyed the tales of those who were able to summon magnificent beasts and bind summons to their will. Though she was always convinced they were nothing more than stories.
Background
Education: Hunter's Woods High School (Senior Year)
Relevant Experience: It was definitely a much different life than those of her peers, being the daughter of a hunter of the church. For so long, she had been set on following the footsteps of good ol' dad. He was everything she aspired to be, and he always made time for her when he could. Always teaching her morality, the sacred duty that Hunters have in defending humanity from the beats that lurk in the darkness. She longed for the day she could join her father on his hunts, and when they could become a duo to be reckoned with.
Of course not everything is so simple. The news came abruptly when two Hunters that her father had introduced her to arrived to deliver the news that would shatter her heart forever. Her father had been killed during his hunt. Valeria refused to believe that. Dad was the strongest most dependable Hunter she knew, there was no way some simple beast could overcome him. Whereas Valeria demanded answers, the Church provided none. The details of the Hunt for a non-member were classified. No exceptions were made for familial ties it seemed. To make matters worse, the Clergy had decided it was time for Valeria to begin her official training to become a Hunter. The Hunter-in-training could only take the mixed pity and glares for so long. Some saw her as desperate to make her late father proud, others saw someone too stricken by grief to be of use on Hunts. Regardless, Valeria threw herself into her studies.
Her devotion to her material and training were not for the reasons one would think. She researched as much about her father as she could in the archives and information she had access to. She knew her father was strong, what could possibly have bested him? Valeria studied all forms of beast and magical constructs, but without accurate information on her fathers manner of death, she was merely speculating. The secrecy was driving her slowly mad, and though Valeria was becoming a fairly decent scholar, she refused to sit back and let this case rest. Doing something she knew her father would disapprove of extremely, she decided to abandon the order in the middle of the night, packing lightly, but enough for travel. That was three years ago, and she has yet to willingly interact with the order since. Sometimes she wonders if the order even realized she was gone, what with how she didn't possess any dangerous knowledge, at least as far as she knew.
Since then, she settled down in Hunters Woods as she tries her best to keep an ear out for anything that might ever be related to her father. Valeria was nineteen now, and her various ventures to places where her father had previously been have amounted to nothing. Despite this, she hasn't given up, and always returns to Hunters Woods to recoup after a lengthy outing. Currently, she finds her fathers savings enough to live off of, but she knows it won't last forever, nothing a part-time job around town can't fix.
Personal Strengths and Weaknesses: Although she possesses a strong will and determined personality, she can sometimes have a one-track mind in search of her goal. All other situations cease to matter, and it can become easy to anger her if someone was to get in the way of her search. Despite this, she isn't particularly eager to throw her life away, not while her fathers killer is surely still at large. Valeria is also rather well taught on the subject of various Monsters that plague the human world, and skillfully manages to avoid them as she now lacks the protection of the church.
Goals: For years now, Valeria has put the church behind her in an effort to track down her Fathers killer on her own. While no closer than she was with the Church on her side, this hasn't deterred her any bit. If any, this has only managed to fuel her obsession for vengeance, but she hides it well enough. She acknowledges she cannot die until she finishes the Hunt she started, and the only hunt she'll ever see through as far as she's concerned. Once this is done, she is unsure what she'll do, but Valeria will burn that bridge when she gets to it.
Theme Song: My name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die.
RP example: So I believe we've RP'ed together in the past, but if you insist I can go fetch something.

Scythe appearance:(Image)
Magic: Soul disruption based upon paper talismans, best utilized at distances too close for her rifle. Can be used for direct attacks, or set as traps, wards, or barriers
Background
Education: Not a local, more or less drifted into town.
Relevant experience : Silvia's ability to work well with others is usually crippled by her inability to socially interact in a positive manner with many people, as she often looks down on others, especially those she considers weaker. Her experience is colored by realizing you can't afford to make sacrifices for others who can't keep up, or at least that's what she learned. She isn't very strong in terms of raw power, but what she does have is the attitude and sensibility of someone who survived despite being weak, which is something much deadlier thing than strength or power, if applied properly.
Personal strengths and weaknesses: Extremely good at hitting targets from long range with her rifle and highly mobile (fast and agile). Relatively intelligent and a quick thinker. Worse at close combat than other reapers and physically weak when taking blows. Dislikes discussing her own personal circumstances, especially family related.
Goals: Beyond working for pay to live off of, nothing is readily known

Appearance: (Image)
Scythe Name: Verlen
Scythe Type: Striker
Scythe Appearance: Can be split into two for a dual wielding saber and dagger
Magic: Pyromancy
Background
Education: Hunter's Woods High School
Relevant Experience: Sigmund is the youngest child in a family with four children. His family is quite doing well on the financial side, his father being a lawyer and his mother a journalist. Despite being the beloved baby of the family, his parents are more focused on his older siblings, namely the eldest, due to the three being in college or in high school. He grew up being overshadowed by the three, only being appreciated by his third sibling and brother.
Yet one would wonder, that isn't enough to turn a child into a delinquent, right? Perhaps not. You see, Sigmund looks up to his mother. Her mother is a journalist who is brave enough to cover stories that the newspeople prefer not to talk about. That resulted to her own undoing when she covered a story about a certain governor who's entangled with a messy web of corruption. The said politician was imprisoned yet his influence wasn't. Weeks after his imprisonment, Sigmund's mother was found dead and, according to the autopsy, was tortured before dying alone. Sigmund was in his early highschool years that time and it visibly shook him. His father tried to push for this case as another weapon against the governor yet the governor left the cold shackles of imprisonment, free from the accusations of the public.
Sigmund started to fall away from his studies and into the grasps of bad influences. A group of no-good students accepted him and provided him comfort, comfort between souls of misery and scars. His relationship with his family soured, until he found himself renting an apartment to get away from them. Perhaps it's for the best. Perhaps it was the unknown forces of the universe's way of helping him execute his goal and desire.
Personal Strengths and Weaknesses: Sigmund is pretty strong as the numerous skirmishes that he experienced with his other delinquent friends turned him into a veteran of pragmatic combat. He still has a passion for learning, especially when it comes to social sciences. He is, however, quite temperamental and gets into fights easily. He is usually rude, which is usually the reason why he can't get jobs, yet after some time his rudeness comes off as a facade of his own soft and weak self.
He is also vulnerable if ever his glasses were removed, only being able to see within close distances.
Goals: He wants to be a lawyer like his father so that he can avenge the death of his mother.

Appearance: (Image)
Scythe Name: Blaster
Scythe Type: Emitter
Scythe Appearance:(Image)
Magic: Spirit energy, channeling his energy/aura as a means for offensive, defensive, or support. In Naga's case, it is more offensive-type.
Background
Education: Samuel J. Hunter Industrial High School
Relevant Experience:
Born in Hunter's Woods, from an American father and a Japanese mother. His parents met when his father was a soldier stationed in Japan and his mother was a member of Justice Department as low-level employee. They met, they fell in love, they married soon after his father retired and went for residence in Hunter's Woods, where his father worked for the local law enforcement.
Of course, his childhood wasn't so bad after all. His mother and his father are a kind and caring parents, taking free time for fun and cared him with compassions. He has both of his mother's compassionate nature, and his father's...reckless and aggressive personality, which involved him with fights here and there, usually with the other Asian ethnicities such as the Chinese and the Koreans. The Japanese community in Hunter's Woods has mixed feeling with his parent's marriage since it means he was a half-half, but so be it. He grew up to be academically normal but physically strong and a skilled kickboxing practitioner.
While he was able to went to the Hunter's Woods, the Samuel J. Hunter offers field professions and able to work after you graduated. After some heavy persuasions, his parents reluctantly sent him to the Samuel J. Hunter. He made friends quickly, and able to showed himself adept in fights. He eventually graduated from the Automotive and set his sight to establishing a career in Hunter's Woods as a mechanic.
However, since it needs more than just some money, he realized he needed part-time jobs first in order to make his dream true, and thus while he searched for it, he found a notice for employment from Glutton's Diner.
Finding no alternative for now, he applied and hopes that he will get the job.
Personal Strengths and Weaknesses:
While Naga is skilled in automotive field, physically strong, and skilled in kickboxing, he is sometimes prone to being too reckless and aggressive. Diplomacy is never his strong suit, so he usually prefers or has the tendencies to punch his way in or out. Nevertheless, his personality is strong in compassion and kindness, but he tends to be jerkish sometimes. Academically-wise, he is not a smart or a stupid person, just average.
Goals: To establish Warren's Automotive Shop and make it a big business.

This is a really minor, nitpicky point on my part but spirit energy and magic are sort of separate things. Mages use their soul to generate mana and then shape mana with an incantation, but spiritual beings like demons and to a more limited extent, everyone's characters here can directly manipulate their soul and spiritual energy for various purposes. Humans can actually do this as well, mages control their soul to make it generate more mana than an ordinary persons but its sort of tricky and requires practice, spiritual beings can do it freely and effortlessly.
It's possible to pretty much do what you're thinking, it's just not technically a kind of magic, it's also possible to do something with magic that is functionally very similar to what you're thinking but wouldn't technically have anything to do with

A tome in magic is a unit of measurement for incantation length, it doesn't necessarily refer to an actual book although actual books are often used to record incantations. So a particular spell might have an incantation that is one or two or three tomes long.
(Remember that this is before compression, if you practice it long ago you could shorten even an three tome incantation which would be thirty hours of recital for a normal person down to a few words).
The numbers for tomes, 360,000 words and twenty hours to recite, are based on the bible incidentally.Sindrya wrote:
What? If it's an Emitter-type scythe it should only be able to shoot magical projectiles, right? Scythe types aren't just limited to form. It's also functionality and the Reaper's fighting style. Which is why I said "the scythe is the reflection of the Reaper's soul".
Ah. I see now. Then it's not allowed. Unless you want to make that as your magical capabilities later on in the IC, then I would have to say "No" to that.New Antonalia wrote:Magic:

Just to weigh in and clarify a bit, while it's fine to use your scythe as a kind of mental focus for magic, no scythe would have properties that make it especially useful for that purpose, by which I mean you could use an ordinary book and get the same results. It's probably more convenient to use your scythe rather than carry the scythe and a second book for casting magic out of around with you so in that sense its efficient. I guess you could also write down phone numbers and stuff in it and pull it out whenever you wanted. A book scythe is starting to seem pretty handy.
aaaaand to re state an earlier point, scythes don't have true personalities, they can talk but there wouldn't be an intelligence behind what they're saying that would be enormously inefficient. In terms of sheer power, familiars lag behind both strikers and emitters as it is theorised their extra sophistication requires additional energy.

So to have full intelligence in your scythe you'd need even more extra energy, meaning there would be hardly any left for actual combat effectiveness, your scythe would be a technically quite impressive but functionally useless squeaky toy.
Anyhoo my app is coming up, Sin asked me to make a character who can teach everyone about magic so I get to be a massive lore nerd ICly as well woo!

Personal Profile
Name: Lawrence Sinclair
Age: 16
Gender: Masculine Male
Sexuality: Unknown, comes off as asexual though could be heterosexual
Appearance: Light bronze skin with a small afro he stands at an amazing 5'4 sporting a stocky frame of 160 lb. On much of his body and especially within his arms and torso one will find a rather impressive array of scars, burns, and old bruises. A testament to a rather rough upbringing. One will find a distinctive lack of piercings or tattoos, not his style, and the fact that his attire is rather simply composed mostly of polo shirts and mildly baggy jeans. A rather interesting trait is his belts. Lawrence has a got a thing for big buckled cowboy belts so one should expect that. A thing to note is that lawrence doesn't really wear hats though he may occasionally sport a bandanna every once in awhile.(Image)
Scythe Name: Lowo and Daga
Scythe Type: Striker
Scythe Appearance: Lowo is the bringer of death and comes in the form of a spear measuring 5 feet with a foot long black steel head. Along its shaft are various engravings of uncertain origin depicting various images mostly related towards nature though some are a little more abstract. Daga on the otherhand is the preserver of life and comes in the form of a rawhide tower shield with a ebony wooden frame and iron edge. Along the edges are also more engravings these resembling various african symbols and hieroglyphics meant to protect from witchcraft. The shield itself is rectangular though at it's center is a face with an intimidating glare meant to bring fear to wary foes.

Magic: N/A
Background
Education:Samuel J. Hunter Industrial High School-Carpentry and Construction
Relevant Experience: Born in a rather poor side of town to a mother of 12 years of age named Clara Sinclair Lawrence's life was destined for hardship. He had a heroin addiction and was underweight coming in at only 4 lbs as such They kept him at the hospital for a month or two due to his poor condition. Upon leaving he was immediately placed into the custody of his grandmother, age 30. His mother was drunk when she gave birth to the newborn and owing to his conception being one derived from a night of partying the likelihood of figuring paternity was low not that anyone, most certainly his mother, cared.
His gran was a hard woman who rarely showed any sort of affection and made it abundantly clear that he was a nuisance that she would rather not have. If she ever really cared he never really saw it. With a background like that one should not be surprised that he ended up having a tendency to act out. It started when he was about 6 carrying a big pot of stew which needed to be cooked at the local bakers oven. In his pocket was 5 $1 bills for just that task. While walking along he saw out of the corner of his eye an intriguing sight. A group of men in an alley playing dice. Just to see what was going on Lawrence made his way over and observed. It wasn't long before they offered him the dice and with his 5 dollars on the line he rolled. A little while later Lawrence made his way up to the baker giving the man his compensation and on the way home he had a noticeable spring in his step. Not surprising considering the 120 dollars in his pocket. From that point on he was hooked.
By the time Lawrence graced the age of 8 years he had accumulated a small fortune of $10k hidden away in a special compartment underneath his rooms wooden floor. Not bad for a child whose world was a ghetto. It had taken a lot of hustling and gambling and the occasional money laundering to get where he was at. But like most things in this world it came at a cost. His various wheelings and dealings had ended up with him running with the local crew. The request where simple: the occasional running and some thievery, his most favorite being bikes, here and there. they served as supplements to his more regular income. One day he was given a task though different from the normal fare. Today alongside another named Tyrone age 12 he was to pop a fool who fucked with the minister, the local leader, in exchange for a nice fat bonus. They were young so it wasn't like they would suspect them or nothing. Making his way over to the spot Lawrence was a little nervous with a mac-10 down his waist. When they finally got there, a basketball court, they made their way up to the small crowd rather nonchalantly so as not to arouse too much suspicion. Eventually Tyrone started pulling out his sawn off shotgun from his pack which caused some of the more observant crowd to begin to disperse. By the time Tyrone fire the only person who was in the field of fire was a young pregnant girl whose name Lawrence can't remember. She dropped like a sack of potatoes and the two perps ran. A little whiles later after they had split up Lawrence made his way down an alley where he ran into a pair of cops who when they saw him ordered him to stop. Lawrence responded immediately pulling out his mac-10. "Gonna fry some piggies" is what he said before he gave the trigger a little squeeze. Sadly for him the gun wasn't really all that well maintained as such it jammed immediately. "Shit" is all he thought booing it in the opposite direction with bullets flying around. When he finally got to the end of the alley he found himself tackled by another cop who was just waiting for him.
They gave the little shit a nice roughing up before they booked him and put him in a small cell. When they bought him to court they let him go to the astonishment of many. The reasoning was simple as such; he was far too young to be placed in prison, too dangerous to be placed in prison, and if they sent him back to his granny she would just yell at him and kick him out again. Lawrence had fallen through the cracks, the cracks which hurt and deprive and turn little children into painful little jagged pieces. So he left and went on being a sort of menace to society walking through life like a shadow.
3 years later one day he found himself in an old abandoned factory in the dark with a bullet in the back of his head, broke as a joke. Not a surprising ending to that saga, or it should have been if he had perished. For some reason he is not particularly sure he survived this ordeal. Nevertheless the 11 year old Lawrence came out of it broken and filled with despair for the next year he wandered an wallowed in this dark cloud of blue doing his best to survive a world which seemed to have gotten harder. By the end of it all he found himself standing outside the doors of his grandma's house.
When she found him she saw his dirty clothes and head bowed, the mark of a boy with nowhere to go. She took him in albeit mildly reluctantly. Here demands were simple, contribute and go to school. Not much one might think but one must consider this is a young man who could barely read and was utterly hopeless in mathematics. The results where unsurprising in the form of his poor grades. Not surprising he ended up in Samuel J. Hunter. Still he contributed to his house in the form of minor chores here and there, no allowance though, and by the time he was 14 he attempted to get a job. Nothing really panned out that well for the quiet and rather skilless Lawrence. He mostly subsisted on odd jobs here and there earning a buck or two which mostly got sucked up for grans "rent" which she required in exchange for letting him live in the basement. At the age of 16 by the time he found the position vacant sign he had been unable to find a proper source of employment in the past 3 months combined that with his gran becoming increasingly impatient over the the past couple months of skipped rent Lawrence was a little desperate. With an oversized 3 piece suit in toe to hopefully impress he is putting what little hope he has on this.
Personal Strengths and Weaknesses: Lawrence is a rather awkward kid with strange social quirks and surprisingly a bad temper developed from his years of having to grow up quickly feeling like the world is on his shoulders. Combined with his cynicism and crappy sense of humor he can come as abrasive to say the least and hard to get to. It takes him quite a while to start to trust others but if you take the time and are up to the challenge you will find that he is a loyal ally who won't abandon you through thick and thin. A good guy overall but a little hard on the exterior, jerk with a heart of gold one might say. As a result of his less than savory years hanging with the local crew and rolling a dice or two he has accumulated a rather heavy juvenile track record which is thankfully sealed but has earned him a reputation as a delinquent and something of a thug. Poor relations with the police aside this does mean he has some contacts with the underground which could be useful in some situations.
Goals:
- Make a dollar out of fifteen cents, legitimately
- Do something in his life rather than play videogames in his basement all summer
- Try not to be a complete social misfit for once
- Pay the Rent
- Boredom
