That seemed a bit bland, I chose what I did for propagandist purposes haha. Yeah, Qing and Muzal are real breadbaskets.

That'll work in the West, the East is straight up plains/tundra/maybe taiga. The Persians will mostly be channeled into you, the Russians will be dangerous.
Yeah, I can channel a possible Russian and Persian invasion through Afghanistan and beat them with guerrilla style tactics. It wouldn't take a lot of men too so I can divert resources and men to aid you as well as invade British India.

My main concern is constructing enough of an airforce to neutralize his, anything else I can handle fairly easily.

Population:
Piedmont: 1.7 Million
Sardinia: 0.8 Million
Sicily: 5.4 Million
Naples: 8 Million
Tuscany: 3.5 Million
Total: 19.4 Million
Military Description: The Military consists of two major components. The Army and the Navy. The Army numbers about 335,000 men, and is organized to be a powerful defensive army with offensive capabilities in times of war. Soldiers are relatively well equipped, trained and standard armed with Carcano or Vetterli rifles, and well supplied with the average soldier carrying in between 150-200 rounds of ammunition. Soldiers are protected by steel helmets protected with leather, along with their standard uniform and hobnailed boots.
The Navy is considered extremely vital to the Italian defense structure and is thus well developed and funded, supplied and kept up to date technologically. It consists of roughly 35,000 Sailors spread among 12 Battleships, 17 Cruisers, and 35 Destroyers with a variety of smaller patrol craft and fast moving torpedo boats.
The final, less glorious but still drastically important branch of the military is the Carabinieri, made of 225,000 sworn military aged men, Carabinieri are supposed to make up communal militias that could be easily called upon and serve as a first line of defense. Every town, neighborhood and even larger villages have Companias of riflemen who can be called up during times of war as a strategic reserve or even as guerrilla force to harass enemy functions. This doesn't have a significant impact on the budget or the economy, although every member receives a small monthly stipend depending on rank, but for the average enlisted man is only equivalent to about a laborers 4 hour wages monthly. (About the amount of time they are supposed to spend training.)
Economic Description:
Italy's economy is moving forward again, amidst a series of government liberalization of the economy and an increased ammount of public spending on things like railroads, infrastructure and the building of more factories as Italy attempts to move towards a increasingly industrialized economy amidst massive food surplus. Italian shipyards produce large numbers of ships to supply both the national merchant marine as well as to other industrialized countries. Indeed, the Italian economy has a large maritime base.
Ideology:
Nationalism, with elements of both Socialism and Classical Liberalism practiced by the current government.
Allegiance:
None at the moment really, but a natural enemy of the Austrians and their HRE.
Goals:
Unification of the Italian Peninsula
Point of Divergence:
Italian Wars of Independence
History:
Following the disastrous defeat in the Second Italian War of Independence, the Kingdom of Sardinia was now a defeated shell of it's former self for five years, before the events of 1864 in Southern Italy. A drought in Italy that year caused peasant revolts to riddle the Two Sicilies, siezing the opportunity a patriotic veteran by the name of Giuseppe Garibaldi brought over 6,000 Sardinian men for a military expedition to Sicily. Upon arriving on the Island, he found that the peasant rebels had already captured most of the countryside and were rounding on Palermo where they would meet the first real opposition, or so they thought, the large Royal Army garrisoned there at the break of dawn before the result raised the Italian tricolor in a stunning display of national unity. With Sicily more or less secured under Sardinian control, the United Italian Army led by Garibaldi crossed to the mainland and joined forces with the revolutionaries there who had been succesful in previously stopping the bulk of the Royal Troops from reaching Sicily. This coalition of Italian troops, continued it's glorious march to Naples where a battered Francis II surrendered his nation, and his army to the Sardinians. Italy was now back on the path to unification.
In 1882, the Toscan Unification Process began. The Treaty of Toscan Annexation was signed in Napoli that year by the Duke of Tuscany and Umberto I, effectively making Tuscany another region of the Kingdom.
30 Years later, Italy remains un-unified, but that is soon to change.
