I was talking about the character, but since you mentioned that, my shoes still need to be tied.

Although I'm debating on whether I want my character to be an early teen just going through puberty, or a late teen that's still going through puberty.

You should go through the "late-teen puberty guy" route. I find that more interesting interaction* is possible when most of the characters are the same age.

But then, in a natural 'new parents don't know what the fuck they're doing' way, her adopted parents proceeded to tell her everything about it when she got older. Because that's how you break it to your kid that they're adopted.

Well, I'd say he was an energetic young boy running around trying to talk to everybody, so I doubt she would have been very safe from Max... Unless she disappeared the entire day... But then Max would have chatted her up at dinner or something. XD

Such things are rife with scandal and suspicion. He didn't come all this way to be accused of something he ran from over a decade ago, or shanked.
