The Orphans of Mason (OOC, semi-open)

Postby Galnius » Thu Nov 24, 2016 4:51 pm

For all intents and purposes, everything is normal in Mason. It's going through a bad time, with the wealthy losing their wealth and crime escalating, but it wasn't much in wealth or safety to begin with.

However, there is a time that the people of Mason keep under wraps. Ten years ago, in the little destroyed building on the old hill, opposite the graveyard, there was a tiny, peculiar orphanage. It was run by a priest, and two nuns. Whilst the nuns were fine, with one residing as the matron of the church and the other dying of age a few years back, it was the priest and the... Oh so strange children that inhabited it.

After a large scale skirmish between the priest and one boy, Maxim, the place fell into disarray, with the priest and Maxim -having vanished.

The other children moved on. Some were adopted. Some lived on the streets. Some made families. Some were too young to even remember the orphanage, and lived out their lives never knowing.

However, when all of them, including Maxim, are in the town together once again through no plan of their own, the town once again is sent into chaos. Criminals bargain for the strange children, bounty hunters search them down, and a crypt of a holy man opens from the inside.....

Introduction done, onto the business part! This RP is set in the fictional small city of Mason, Wales, in the mid 1800's. Whilst there is factories, jobs, and a whole passel of hills, there still does not seem much to do in Mason. A strange mix between slice of life and supernatural action come together in this semi-open world RP. By open world, I mean of course, Mason. You will still have plots to follow, most bobviously, but that will hardly stop you from going off and doing your own things if you so wish.

Now, I'm sure all of you are wondering "Oh cool, what kind of powers can I have?!" Well, silly beings of flesh, I actually have a few limitations to what you can possess. HOWEVER, these limitations are quite simple.
[*1]If you can destroy a small building in one go, you are much, MUCH too powerful. Hell, even half a building is too much.
[*2]If it allows you to godmod or metagame, that's a nono.
[*3]No spacial manipulation or reality warping besides small things like transmodifying stones or teleportation or things of that small nature. [*4]Even the hax needs to stay on the lower end.
    [*5]One ability per person.
[*6]On that note, TRY to have differing abilities. You don't NEED to, but at least try.

Some examples of abilities include, but are not limited to...
Possession (The priest)
Double the strength of a normal man (Maxim)
Talking to animals
Communing with spirits
Wolfish features+senses
Empathy
Perfect Memory ability
Enhanced reflexes

RULES:
1. No godmodding or metagaming
2. PG-13 please
3. Stay a least AROUND Mason
4. Don't be a dick in the OOC
5. Rules are subject to be added without warning
6. No more than 2 characters per person until further notice
7. At least a paragraph per post please. That's....3 sentences or more.
8. Violators of these rules will be warned at knife point. Second time violators imprisoned. Third time violators give my executioner a reason to use his rusty axe...
9. When asked, did you read the rules, say "I am weary of the axe" if it is your first application

Nickname: Max
Age: 24
Gender: Male
Appearance:

Current status: Maxim has been wandering the countryside for about 10 years, living off the land. He has no family, as he has yet to settle down. He is, however, wanted in a few small towns...and London. Currently, he is entering Mason looking for his old friends.
Abilities: Maxim has the ability to bring his physical attributes to double that of a normal man, including speed, strength, endurance, and durability. this is a passive affect, and only off when asleep.
Skills: Maxim is a skilled hand to hand fighter.
What were they doing during the fight where the priest died?: The screams filled the halls with a sound of terror, foreboding filling Maxim to the brim. I rushed down the stairwell, nearly tripping as I hurried at my top speed. However, I was not prepared for what I saw. Johnny lay dead, the priest holding something. His...spirit maybe?

Without thinking, I charged. Father Hamson whirled to face me, and our bodies collided. In a blind rage, I attacked oiver and over, not stopping until I saw the other children gathering. I got up slowly, shaking. The priet lay at my feet, bloodied and broken. Johnny lay dead nearby. "It...it wasn't..." I turned and ran, hiding my face and shame from the onlookers. I ran and ran, not listening to the calls behind me. A murderer, that's what I would be labeled as. They didn't see what I saw. The townsfolk blurred pat me as I fled, never to return.

After I had left the city, I ran still until I collapsed in the woods, far off the road. I would not return, not until this all blew over. Sleep came, shakingly, as I lay on the cold ground. In the morning, I would flee even farther, hopefully before a possee was sent out.

The other children didn't seem to make it yet. This was lucky, for they did not have to witness the one thing
Did you read the rules?: This is my RP, so screw the OP, destroy the OP, and burn him at a crisp! Well...don't actually...I like my life.

Name: Charles
Nickname: Charlie
Age: 14
Gender: Male
Appearance: Image
Current status: Travelling to Mason
Abilities: Flight
Skills: Extremely clever, smart, and diplomatic.
Weaknesses: Is forced to use a cane.
What were they doing during the fight where the priest died?:

Charles was only four years old when the fight occured. His body was meant for flight, so his legs were rather weak. Therefore, he could only move slowly. He tried his best to make his way through the winding halls of the orphanage. The screams only got louder, and he was able to make them out. Most of them were screams of panic. "My God!" "The priest!" "Johnny!?" "Run!" He limped his way, with his cane given to him by one of the nuns. Suddenly, he heard a slight crack in the ceiling. Suddenly, a beam fell on his head.Luckily, he was saved by another student, and healed.
Soon, a couple came to town, all the way from London. They saw him, still recovering, and adopted him. They took him to their home in London. However, he remembered nothing about the orphange... but those screams.
He grew up with loving parents. He rediscovered his ability to fly, but his parents heavily cautioned him from using this power in the streets of London. He might be accused of witchcraft by the more backwards people in town. They told him about his past, and finally, when he was 14 years old, he asked them to go back to Mason. He said that maybe he could regain his memories, and he would be able to fly. His parents, after constant nagging, allowed him to. His father had to do business, and his mother had to tend to the house. Therefore, they let him go alone. He was 14, after all, and he could fly! He could take care of himself... right?

Name: Alina
Nickname: Lily(she doesn't like her real name)
Age: 21
Gender: Female
Appearance:
An abnormal child with an abnormal appearance--this is what she looked like as a child, extrapolate for yourself

Current status: She and her sister stayed in Mason after the dispersal, since to them, it was home. However, they continued to live on their own.
Abilities: She can see and talk to ghosts. *shrug* Simple. No actually fighting with them, though, unless they're poltergeists, in which case have at thee! Sadly, poltergeists aren't all that common. As a result, she often has to rely on her sister in a fight.
Skills: She's quite a good singer, and good with her hands as well. She enjoys making things. She's willing and likely able to do most tasks you set, as long as it isn't something that requires too much strength. For example, don't try to make her build something, but if you want her to sew something? Easy.
What were they doing during the fight where the priest died?:
Here you go.
Something was happening. There was... screaming. What was going on? Where was Lee? She was scared... Where was her sister? Why were people screaming? She huddled in a shivering ball under her bedcovers, whimpering quietly. What was going to happen? Was she going to die? She didn't want to die. No one would be able to see her if she died. No one would be able to hear her. That was her job... seeing dead people... hearing them... that was what she did, so if she died, no one would know she was there... no one would know...

"Lily!" The door crashed open, and her eyes widened in relief as she saw her sister in the doorway. "Come on," Lee ordered, grabbing her hand and pulling her out from under the covers. "We have to go. We have to go right now!"

Lily whimpered again as her sister pulled her along, but followed obediently behind, clinging to the other girl's hand and looking only at her sister, not taking in her surroundings. It was only later that she would find out what had happened. For now, all she needed to do was to follow her sister and do as she said. As long as they stayed together, they'd be okay. Lee had promised that a long time ago.

As long as they stayed together, everything would be okay...

Name: Alita
Nickname: Lee
Age: 21
Gender: Female
Appearance:
Same old same old.

Current status: See above...
Abilities: Telepathy. This power has its rules, though. She has to know someone's name and face in order to be able to communicate with them. The closer she is to them(both physically and mentally), the more powerful the telepathy is.
Skills: Give this girl a piano and she'll show you some of her skills. Heh. She's also stronger than her sister and is able to do things that Alina can't, such as, well, building things. She's not very good with delicate work, though.
What were they doing during the fight where the priest died?:
Here you go again.
The cries echoed in Alita's ears as she ran, her heart racing. The thoughts she was gathering in weren't pleasant--full of fear and pain. She couldn't hear Lily among the cacophony of voices, which gave her some comfort. Lily wasn't in danger...

Unless she's already dead... No! No, she can't be dead! She's not dead!

Slamming the door to their room open, she felt a wave of relief wash over her as she saw her more timid sister cowering on her bed. "Lily!" she ordered, her voice catching slightly. "Come on!" Running to her sister's side, she grabbed the other girl's hand and pulled her to her feet, continuing with, "We have to go. We have to go right now!"

She turned and started pulling Lily along behind her, her breaths fast and uneven. Everything's going to be all right, she promised herself. No matter what happens. I told Lily we'd be fine if we stayed together. I told her. I won't let her down.

As long as we stay together, everything will be okay...

Name: Wynnelynn
Nickname: Winnie
Age: 13
Gender: Technically unknown by all except her, but she usually presents as female
Appearance:
Favourite Form

Current status: She recently convinced her adopted family to let her spend her holiday from Llanfairpwllgwyngyll in search of the town of 'Mason' that they told her she had been adopted from instead of going on holiday to visit her adopted relatives in St-Malo, France on the condition that she kept her pen and notebook with her at all times.
Abilities: Shapeshifting(Restrictions: Can only shape-shift into humanoid forms, cannot change size, cannot change eye colour, and cannot change shape or size of teeth)
Skills: Wynnelynn is a fast reader, has a photographic memory, and a powerful imagination, which is very useful for any shapeshifter
What were they doing during the fight where the priest died?*: Wynnelynn awoke with a scream. What could those horrible sounds be? she thought as she groggily slunk out of her bed to go search for the source of the noise that had interrupted her nap. As she walked down the hall holding her favourite plush toy, a small blanket-like lamb that she referred to as Lambie, she clutched it closer to her as she shuddered at the shrieks and yelling that permeated that halls.
"Winnie's okay. Winnie's okay," she quietly cried to herself as she shuffled forward. She was absolutely, positively terrified, but she continued, as she hadn't seen any of the other orphans around either. Shortly after, she turned a corner and was nearly trampled as the assailant of the priest ran from the scene. She remained on her hands and knees as she crawled to get a better view of the crime-scene. She took one look at the priest's bloody corpse before leaping up and running back to her room, screaming in terror and shock as she did. The image of the priest's haunted her in her dreams and remains in her memory to this day.

Name:
Morgan
Nickname:
Midnight
Age:
24
Gender:
Male
Appearance:
This complete with his outfit and a cross necklace.
Current status:
Nicholas is currently employeed as a Hankyman (A travelling "magician", though Nicholas kinda is a real one) and is returning to Mason
Abilities: Gravity Aura
Skills:
A master of slight of hand, a good talker, and not to bad bad at fighting. Also, scottish, that's a skill.
What were they doing during the fight where the priest died?:
Morgan was fourteen when it happened, fourteen when the orphanage which Morgan had called home since he was a wee babe, the orphanage fell into chaos. Morgan wasn't inside the orphanage though when everything started. He was simply laying on the roof and looking up to the sky, thinking. Maybe one day he would get out of this place, and see the world.

His day dreaming was interrupted by the sound of screaming, and chaos ensuing. By time Morgan made his way down from the roof and got to the entrance of the orphanage, he was almost run over by Maxim. Morgan watched as Maxim disappeared into the distance. It was then that Morgan entered and found the source of the chaos. There lied Johnny, and the priest. Dead. What happened? Was this why he was running? Could he have killed them?

The next day, Morgan left heading for the north, where he would find a family. He would also learn to harness his powers more. When he was old enough, he started his life on the road as a Hankyman and travel the land making money by performing "magic". Now, he is on his way back to Mason, as that is where the wind is blowing.

Name: Rose
Nickname: Rosie
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Appearance:
Appearance

Current status: I am searching for Mason just so I can go home again.
Abilities: It's strange, but at will, I can turn my eyes an emerald green, thus allowing me to put anyone (but me) to sleep at will. Hypnosis, I suppose? I think my power can do more, but I'm not sure how I can make it do so.
Skills: People call me diplomatic, cunning, and quiet. I don't really see why, though.
What were they doing during the fight where the priest died:

I was only seven or eight years old when the incident occured. I don't know why, but I can't remember much anymore. I need to write all this down before I forget. Before they take me away. I don't want to be taken away. I just want to go home, but where is home? I don't know anything anymore. I can't understand this! I'm forgetting why I'm writing this. All I need to do is write, just write.

It was a silent night, and the only sounds that could possibly be heard were the sounds of crickets, lulling me into a pleasant slumber. At nighttime, the orphanage was peaceful, for the most part. All I needed to do was ignore the voices, which were often rather quiet, and quite ignorable. Snuggling in the warmth of my blanket, I took solace in the presence of my friends, the nuns and the other orphans.

Suddenly, a loud shriek echoed through the air, and I could hear a sickening crunch. I hid under my covers, being the fearful coward I am. What if my fears were confirmed? The old man was nice, after all, and I don't want anything bad to happen to him.

Footsteps. Loud footsteps. Shivering in fear, I pretended I was just a lump of blankets, attempting to stay still. I hoped that the person, who was most likely the evil killer, would go away and leave me alone. I didn't want to die. But the person didn't fall for it, and she ripped the blankets from my tight grip. My eyes wide in shock, I stared at the space in front of me, bracing myself for the inevitable impact that is definitely going to be a painful blow. After staring at the mysterious woman's face, I sighed in relief. It was simply Aunt Minnie, one of the nice nuns who lived here. She would get me to safety, I know it.

Beckoning me to the window, Aunt Minnie quickly hurried me to escape. "Please, run away, run away...!"

There was no time to question her. Carefully climbing out, I lowered myself into the brush below. I ran away as fast as I could, and now I'm in the wilderness I am in right now. Sometimes, I visit the nearby village. It can be fun, but currently, I just want to go home, and take a long nice nap.

Name: Emrys

Nickname: Firebug

Age: 22

Gender: Male

Appearance: Like this, but with appropriate attire, mainly black to offset the more normal look of his brother.

Current status: Working as a Hankyman with his brother Morgan, with a Demon vs. Priest/Angel theme going. On his way back to Mason with his brother.

Abilities: Pyrokinesis, or the ability to manipulate fire. He cannot will it into existence, or survive being burned to death, but if there's an open match in the room, he could get it to grow. I mean, technically he could destroy an entire city, if we go Great Fire of London scenario, but the chances of doing that are pretty low.

Skills: Sleight of hand, like his brother, but horrible at talking because of his temper. He's pretty good with knives and cards particularly. He's also Scottish.

What were they doing during the fight where the priest died?: Emrys, ever the curious bairn, was not at the orphanage when the... incident occured. No, he was in the local bar, having escaped the place he called home quite easily (he used other children and a small fire as a dsitraction, to be honest). Of course, he wasn't drinking or anything, he was simply practicing some skills he had learned to cultivate. A little card trick here and there, a knife flip or throw. He preformed for the drunks and patrons and earned himself a little sum in tips he garnered... and maybe from a few stolen coin purses that he could lift.

When people started running about and yelling wildly, Emrys couldn't help getting his interest piqued. After listening for a moment, and hearing the word orphanage, the twelve year old ran off toward his home with a pace not seen from since. While doing so, he saw out of the corner of his eye a strange figure, older than he or his brother, running off into the woods. Later, he would realize that this had been Maxim, but the identity of the person had not passed through his mind at that moment. Seeing his brother in the door way, Emrys brushed past Morgan a little, and looked into the scene of horror in front of him, two dead people, people whom he knew all the life that he could remember.

Later, he followed his brother north, to Scotland, and learned the profession of a Hankyman with him in an effort to make some money. Of course, along the way, they did the odd jobs one needs to to make a living, and when it came time for Emrys to throw in his share of money, it became tradition not to ask where it had come from. Now, he follows his brother while preforming shows, Morgan taking the side of the priest or angel protected by god while Emrys dresses up like a demon and manipulates fire to make everything seem a little too dangerous. The wind seems to be carrying them to Mason, much to Emrys's chagrin.

He could take care of himself... right?

This is an interesting app. Flight, eh? At what speeds?

Five miles per hour, slightly faster than the normal human can walk.

Woooow. Does Maxim really have purple eyes and that hairstyle? That's unique for the 1800s, yeah.

Name: Alexander
Nickname: Alex
Age: 22
Gender: Male
Appearance:

Image

Current status: Alexander continues to live in the city of Mason, all while keeping his darkest secret. He has found a job in a clothes factory in the city, and intends to keep it. If only he could have no incidents....
Abilities: Alexander has the ability to transform into a wolf. While not a werewolf like the ones in the stories, he still must deal with the urge of the hunt, and the consequences that it could bring if he lets hit get out of control near people. Some to himself, others to those he finds...
Skills: Skilled Hunter & Fighter (Not as good as Maxim)
What were they doing during the fight where the priest died?:
Alex rushed into the main hall once he heard the noise. Many others had come to investigate as well. Being older than most in the orphanage, he towered over many of the children there, so it was easy to get a look at the dead body of Johnny and the Priest.

His voice shook with a building rage as he looked at the boy who stood near him, "You... bastard..." he growled

It's the best picture I could find for a character with unkempt long hair, brunnete, no guns, no super modern clothing(though that had to be put to the side slightly), that personality etc. Finding pictures is difficult.

So, I was wondering if the ability of shapeshifting would be valid, with limitations, of course. Shapeshifting as in able to change their appearance over a relatively short period of time, but not size or into anything in a non-humanoid form.

That's not long hair, silly xD The guy has been out in the wilderness. It also gives off a very different personality.

Yeah, that would be fine.
