Meta-Human. A phrase that once was simply a fictional term used in comic books and movies. Yet for the longest time it was a real life occurrence. Thousands of years ago, a certain sense of luck was needed to see one or two in a whole century, Hercules, Achilles, Odysseus, all special in their own way, and all thought to be myths. Not quite.

In 1908, a massive meteor exploded in the Russia, an event known as 'The Tunguska Event' started the chain reaction of ballooning Meta-Human populations. Although uncommon, many reports from both world wars and Korea made it clear that a few soldiers on all sides weren't normal, soldier that did things that no normal human would ever conceive of, or surviving wounds that would kill all others. Yet they did so anyway.

In 1961, the USSR detonated the Tsar Bomb, the largest nuclear explosive at 50 megatons. Except it wasn't a thermonuclear device. Within the now atomized metal casing lay dormant minerals collected from Tunguska, elements within couldn't have been identified, so in true scientific fashion, they wanted to see what would happen if they blew up. The bomb wasn't the only thing to explode, with Meta-Human populations in comparison starting to rise rapidly. Though comparatively small to the normal human population they did enough to where people started to wonder, but there wasn't any hard evidence yet.

But then the world had to face facts, in 2015, a bank in New York was robbed, by several people who reportedly had supernatural powers. Lighting, fire, straight up pulling the vault door open. It was an obvious concern, and for the next few months, repeat incidents started occurring across the east coast of the US. With similar crimes occuring in both Europe and South America. In December of that year, Meta-Humans were required by law to register with their respective governments in 32 nations.

In 2016 the world had had enough, in an attempt to stop the chaos, multiple military units and law enforcement agencies attempted to arrest Meta-Humans wholesale. The resulting damage resulted in several trillions of USD in damages, with Lodz, Poland, and Salvador, Brazil becoming all but ruined shells of formerly large cities.

Then the UN passed it's most questionable mandate. Meta-Humans were not required to be registered, and the former registries were required to be purged. Yet Meta-Humans seen acting 'maliciously' could very easily be imprisoned in UN incarceration centers in the most remote areas of the world. Yet people still used their powers, both for good and evil. For reasons very obvious to most people, both sides were arrested when encountered fighting one another, no matter intent or goal.

Yet in the US city of Miami, there's a small dance club, the 'Grey Donkey'. A popular spot for a decently sized amount of young Meta-Humans. And if rumors are true, they all happen to be vigilantes. But that's not really actionable evidence... is it?

I applaud your world-building and extensive app. I have to pass though, since I don't have fore knowledge or investment in the Black Company universe. With my current RP schedule, theres alot of reading needed to be an effective part of your RP. I will cheer from the sidelines though :p

Meta-Human.

A phrase that once stood as mere fiction like that of film and comic books, but throughout recorded history there has been a grain of truth in the make-believe, exceptions to the rule of human nature that, to date, defy reasonable explanation.
For millennia a certain luck was required for one or even two such irregularities to exist within a given century.
Hercules, Achilles, Odysseus: heroes, and all thought to be simple myth.

Not quite.

In the year 1908, a massive meteorite exploded in the Russian wilderness, an incident known today as the "Tunguska Event" which, for reasons unknown, signaled the rise of Meta-Human populations globally. Although uncommon, many reports from both
World Wars and the conflict in Korea showed evidence that a handful of soldiers on all fronts were capable of feats beyond human capabilities; soldiers that could do the unimaginable or who survived odds that would kill a hundred men a hundred times over let alone a single rifleman. Reports that were too numerous to be disregarded as coincidence.

Decades later, in the year 1961, the USSR would detonate the Tsar Bomb,
the largest nuclear explosive ever at a staggering 50 megatons. Only this was not a thermonuclear device.
Within the now atomized metal casing lay dormant minerals collected from Tunguska, elements that could not be identified,
so in true scientific fashion these minerals were utilized if only to satisfy the morbid curiosity of those involved.
This fearsome weapon was not the only thing to explode. Meta-Human populations would again skyrocket, rapidly,
and although a comparatively small percentage amongst normal humans these irregularities have created enough wonderment for their existence to be called into question, but lacking hard evidence Meta-Humans would remain a myth for longer still.

That changed in the year 2015 when a bank in New York City was robbed by several individuals
confirmed to possess supernatural powers. Lightning, fire, and the strength to rip the vault door from its hinges.
It was an obvious concern, and for the next few months repeated incidents would occur across the east coast of the United States, and eventually similar crimes in Europe and South America. In December of that year Meta-Humans were required by law to register with their respective governments, a measure ratified by 32 nations, but one that did little to stem the tide of conflict.
By the next year the world had had enough. In an attempt to put an end to the spreading chaos multiple military units and law enforcement agencies attempted to arrest Meta-Humans wholesale and, when deemed necessary, would utilize deadly force.
What came next was several trillion dollars in damage with Lodz, Poland, and Salvador, Brazil, becoming all but ruined husks of former meccas.

The UN would then pass its most questionable mandate. Meta-Humans were no longer required to be registered, and all former registries would be purged, but Meta-Humans seen acting "maliciously" could be imprisoned in UN incarceration centers located in the most remote areas on Earth. A mandate that was broad in its interpretation.
Yet despite this Meta-Humans would continue to use their powers,
both for good and for evil, but no matter the rationale heroes were subject to arrest
as were the villains they hoped to defeat.

A draconian solution to a problem with no correct answer.

In Miami, Florida, there exists a small dance club tucked away from the glamor of the city: the "Grey Donkey".
A popular spot for young and reckless Meta-Humans, and if the rumors are true, they just so happen to be vigilantes.
But a rumor hardly qualifies as actionable evidence... right?

Just a heads up, but the internet in the apartment I'm staying in is back on.

Turns out the French take their sweet ass time fixing things.

I'd make a joke about WW2, but let's face it, you've probably already made one.

Expect posts in RPs this evening and catchup the rest of the week.

It's funny you mention that, because I just bought an East German Officer's Cap at a flea market here in Nice. Not sure how it ended up here, but we think it might be from the Eighties.

A Different Kind of Cold War
"Gaiety is the most outstanding feature of the Soviet Union."
Joseph Stalin
Out-of-Character Thread | In-Character Thread
The Revolution stands triumphant across the world. From the coasts of San Francisco, to the jungles of Burma, to the wind-swept tundra of Siberia, the liberation of the workers is complete. The German-led Axis has fallen to the dictatorship of the proletariat, as have the reactionary "Allies" and their imperialistic ambitions. Together, the People's Republic of China and the Soviet Union stand astride the world like colossi.

Even the United States has fallen to this Red Tide. In the West lies the United Socialist States of America, in the East lies the corpse of liberty, a shattered republic. This shall be the death knell of the American oppression, the final liberation of the oppressed American working class. The only thing the American peoples have to lose is their chains...
ИСТОРИЯ - THE STORY

Image

Welcome to The Iron Curtain, an alternate history character RP taking place in a world where the Soviet Union has won the Cold War. It stands as one of the largest powers, commanding a vast army of puppet states across Europe and Asia. All is not well in the worker's paradise, however. The People's Republic of China, aligned with her Eastern comrades, stands against the Soviets, believing they have turned their backs on the revolution. With both powers competing in nuclear proliferation, the nations of the world stand on a razor's edge between survival and nuclear armageddon.

This is not that story. This is the story of you, a lowly member of the American Intelligence Service.

The United States is no more. The Great Experiment overturned and defeated by a Soviet-backed revolution in the West. What remains of the Republic in the East has been broken between separatists and opportunistic military warlords, effectively spelling the end of American liberal democracy. Or is it?

You have been enlisted in the United States Central Intelligence Agency, the former country's premiere intelligence service. You are tasked with overthrowing the enemies of the country, and to vanguard the restoration of the republic against enemies foreign and domestic. Will you succeed, bringing down the Communist West and reuniting the Republic? Or will you fall, like all others have before. The choice is yours.

    Welcome to the Iron Curtain.
СТАРЫЕ ВРЕМЕНА - THE LORE

The story of Soviet ascendancy begins with the fall of the Tsarist regime. The Russian Empire, once a colossus stretching from Siberia to the Baltic, was in crisis. The Great War had brought Russia to the aid of the Serbians, and thus had brought German boots on to the soil of the Motherland. Faced with total defeat at a superior enemy, the Russian Empire was on the brink of collapse. Vladimir Lenin, exiled revolutionary, was sent back into the Empire by the Germans, who sought to upend their foe with internal strife. Little did they realize that, by October of 1917, Bolshevik forces would be storming the gates of the Winter Palace. With June of 1918 came the Russian Civil War; the White Army, bolstered by outside aid, came to battle against the Red. The War would last until 1920 with the defeat of the Red Army. The Revolution stood triumphant against imperialism, but it would remain to be seen if it could survive itself.

The first crisis of the new Communist government came with the death of Vladimir Lenin in 1924. Having suffered a history of strokes, he had long since retired from politics following the establishment of the U.S.S.R (Union of Soviet Socialist Republics). His death paved the way for an internal power struggle between the two major ideological blocs of Communist thought. Leon Trotsky, an ardent expansionist, laid claim to the role of Premier. His rival, Joseph Stalin, sought to maintain their gains under the banner of "Socialism in One Country." This minor conflict would end with Stalin's mysterious death in 1925, having been murdered by one of his own aides with an ice pick.

Under the command of Trotsky, the USSR would become the supplier of socialist uprisings across the planet. Even Germany, near shattered by her defeat in the Great War was not safe. The political instability had paved the way for radicals, from the leftist Spartacists to the far-right NSDAP. A failed Communist revolt in Bavaria would be exploited by the NSDAP, under the leadership of Anton Drexler, who would later be invited by the German provisional government to take control as Chancellor. Alongside his second in command, the ambitious Adolf Hitler, Drexler reformed Germany under his violent, anti-semitic ideals. The German Reich would go on to threaten the stability of Europe once more, invading the Polish State and Czechoslovakia.

Drexler, allied with Benito Mussolini of Italy and Emperor Hirohito of the Japanese Empire, waged war against the former Entente allies. France fell quickly to the German onslaught, while the British Isles would pluckily resist German invasion for the duration of the conflict. The former empire remained in dire straits, however, as without the United States, the nation faced the threat of national starvation at German hands. The United States, having maintained a policy of neutrality, kept to their own hemisphere, picking at the bones of dead empires. Unable to recover from their economic collapse in the 1930s, the United States would remain an unstable republic for years to come. A situation not helped by the unimpressive presidencies of Alf Landon and subsequently Wendell Willkie in 1940. The United States was firmly divided, facing threats from racial tensions, communist sympathizers, and political discourse.

Drexler's regime would continue fighting the French in North Africa, as well as in the British Isles, until 1941. The Soviet Union had attempted to retake their claims in the Baltic, particularly Finland, and were entrenched in bloody, near-arctic warfare. Seeing their opportunity, the Germans launched a surprise attack into Western Russia. To their own surprise, they found the Red Army entrenched and waiting.

Trotsky's own paranoia over the rise of German fascism had paid dividends.

Despite technological superiority, the Germans were pushed back and into former Polish territory by 1943. By 1946, the Red Army had encircled Berlin. Drexler, fearing his fate at Communist hands, fled the country for South America. Adolf Hitler, now Chancellor of Germany, would lead a failed last stand at the Reichstag. His corpse would be paraded through the streets as the Reichstag burned.

The Great Patriotic War ended with the surrender of Italy in 1948. The Italian military, fearing Mussolini's claims that they would fight "until the end" executed their leader and made peace with the Soviets. A Soviet invasion of Manchuria and Korea, alongside the Chinese military, forced Japan from the continent and into their own humiliating peace deal. With the United States and the former Allies in economic shambles, the Soviet Union stood as the sole great power to survive the war relatively intact. They went about consolidating their gains, establishing puppet regimes in Eastern and Central Europe. The Italian military junta was quietly deposed in lieu of a Socialist state, despite French and British outcry. Rome, the seat of the Catholic Church, found itself pillaged once more. Not by barbarian hordes, but by the fists and rifles of its own people. The Pope would flee to Mexico, establishing a Mexico City as the unofficial home of the Church.

The echoes of the Communist victory ran out across the planet. Mao Zedong, leader of the Chinese Communists, would be emboldened by the victory. His revolution would eventually depose the Kuomintang in 1950, creating the People's Republic of China. Similarly, Kim il Sung's Democratic People's Republic of Korea would be established following their independence from Japanese rule. Even Indochina was not safe, falling to Ho Chi Minh's revolution and subsequent formation of the Indochinese Socialist Union.

Other regions of the world not under Communist rule responded accordingly.

The Balkan states, fearing Soviet domination, formed a mutual federation to defend their soil. Similarly, Scandinavia and Finland would form the Scandinavian Concordat to counter Soviet aggression after the Winter War. The French Republic would eventually be deposed by a Soviet backed coup, alongside most of the continent. This left only Britain to stand against the red tide, and in the face of this threat, they crumbled into their own form of pseudo-fascism under the command of Prime Minister Oswald Mosley.

The Soviet Union would form the Warsaw Pact, a cruel mockery of the former Allied "Entente", made mostly of themselves and their puppet states. The PRC refused this alliance, believing that the Soviets had turned their back on the revolution and become imperialists themselves. They formed the Asian Economic and Defense Union, or AEDU, with the DPRK and ISU. This sino-soviet split would tarnish relations for decades.

Eventually, the revolution would come to the United States. In 1954, with the United States' economy only barely recovering, it faced the greatest crisis since the Civil War. The violent crackdown on a series of general strikes on the West Coast prompted widespread revolution. Funded by the Soviets and the Chinese, the so-called "U.S.S.A" would come to control most of the Western United States. At the same time, a revanchist Mexican government seized control of the Southwest, further shattering the union. It was only with a humiliating armistice signed in 1957 that the Second American Revolution came to a temporary close.

The end of the revolution brought with it the death of American democracy. The federal government collapsed, breaking apart into various warlord states and nations. So-called Resurrectionists rose up in the American south, preaching a gospel of racial purity and white supremacy, to reform the Confederate States of America. Curtis Lemay, a general of the United States Air Force, called the American experiment dead. His supporters within the army would rise up themselves to form a military dictatorship in the Midwest. Elsewhere, New England would breakaway, claiming to be a successor state to the United States. They would come under the protection of Canada, now under the command of reactionary, hyper-nationalist movements. In an act of absurdity, Missouri would declare itself a Kingdom under the rule of a Christian evangelist doomsday cult known as the "New Babylonians."

The fall left only Washington, a small republic formed around the few states on the East Coast that refused to secede. It survives as a memorial, a monument to the failure of the American experiment. It also remains the only territory in the United States actively harboring the American Liberation Front.

Development of Atomic weaponry continues, with the Soviet Union leading research into the field. Their first detonation of the "Tsar Bomba" in 1949 was a wakeup call to the world of the destructive power of nuclear weaponry. The PRC would detonate their first atomic bomb in 1955. The acquisition of German rocket scientists following the war would pave the way for the development of intermediate range ballistic missiles, and eventually intercontinental missiles. Chinese spies would go on to steal this technology, furthering their own weapons program by decades.

Today, the world stands on the edge of nuclear war. Chairman Guofeng of the PRC and Premier Khrushchev stand at odds, two titans whose conflict threatens to destroy civilization as we know it. Frequent border disputes and rhetoric have forced the Communist nations to adopt a policy of brinksmanship. Incidents like the failed Wonsan Bay invasion and the construction of the Lincoln Wall in the United States have only furthered tensions. It remains to be seen how the continuing "Long Winter" between the two nations will end, whether it be by peace, or by nuclear fire.

Wonder if it's stolen?

Maybe, the thing is, the couch had wooden trim, and was sealed adn it was stuck within the trim. I still have it and flip it before decisions in games, lol. Its around the size of a Half dollar maybe smaller.

I got several Eurocoin and Canuckdollar from one of those machines that converts tons of coins into dollar monies.
I got Eurocent, pence, a half Franc, a canuck penny and quarter, and that phennig. They're all probably pointless to convert to American money.

It's funny you mention that, because I just bought an East German Officer's Cap at a flea market here in Nice. Not sure how it ended up here, but we think it might be from the Eighties.

Are you talking about the RP, tho?

Naw. It's a coin.
Which Germany would a Bundesrepublik coin be from?

The current government of Germany is the Bundesrepublik, which is a federal government so West Germany.
