The State of the World, circa 1963
The Revolution stands triumphant across the world. From the coasts of San Francisco, to the jungles of Burma, to the wind-swept tundra of Siberia, the liberation of the workers is complete. The German-led Axis has fallen to the dictatorship of the proletariat, as have the reactionary "Allies" and their imperialistic ambitions. Together, the People's Republic of China and the Soviet Union stand astride the world like colossi.

Even the United States has fallen to this Red Tide. In the West lies the United Socialist States of America, in the East lies the corpse of liberty, a shattered republic. This shall be the death knell of the American oppression, the final liberation of the oppressed American working class. The only thing the American peoples have to lose is their chains...

Welcome to The Iron Curtain, an alternate history character RP taking place in a world where the Soviet Union has won the Cold War. It stands as one of the largest powers, commanding a vast army of puppet states across Europe and Asia. All is not well in the worker's paradise, however. The People's Republic of China, aligned with her Eastern comrades, stands against the Soviets, believing they have turned their backs on the revolution. With both powers competing in nuclear proliferation, the nations of the world stand on a razor's edge between survival and nuclear armageddon.

This is not that story. This is the story of you, a lowly member of the American resistance.

The United States is no more. The Great Experiment overturned and defeated by a Soviet-backed revolution in the West. What remains of the Republic in the East has been broken between separatists and opportunistic military warlords, effectively spelling the end of American liberal democracy. Or is it?

You have been enlisted in the American Liberation Front, a resistance movement seeking to rebuild the former United States and overthrow its enemies. Will you succeed, bringing down the Communist West and reuniting the Republic? Or will you fall, like all others have before. The choice is yours.

    Welcome to the Iron Curtain.

Sure.

I updated with a map. The current year is 1963.

The United States in this timeline has totally collapsed thanks to a Soviet backed populist revolution in the West. Thanks to this, the Federal government remnants in the East have collapsed into various competing states ranging from a resurrected CSA to a military Midwestern junta.

The actual story involves trekking from the last Federal holdout state, Washington (D.C, not the State.) and moving across the country into the U.S.S.A to deliver some kind of extremely secretive important package to the resistance there.

EDIT: I do have a full alternate history that I'll be adding in a spoiler in a later update.

Updated the Iron Curtain OP with an admittedly long prologue explaining the backstory of how Communism got it's groove back and conquered the world.

It really shouldn't be called "What if the Soviet Union won the Cold War", because the Cold War between America and the Soviets technically never happened in this timeline.

Oh well.

I dunno what class makeup has to do with the core of a TTG. Just because any class can use magic in one way or another (which happens at high levels anyway, with magic items), doesn't mean that the game is invalidated or less fun. Just means you're not just spamming the attack button. Which is a good thing IMO.

I read a little later. You mean things that recharge after you take a rest? I don't know about you, but like I alluded to above; a class that the only thing they do is attack and get some passive buffs isn't that interesting to play. There's so little autonomy to that. "Do I want to hit the boss, or hit the minion?" as opposed to "Hit the boss, use my 1/day to hit him harder or save it for if there's anything after this fight, hit minions, use my magic sword that is only usable once a fortnight to slay the mighty beast, etc?" TTGs should have options in combat, options further than what class/subclass to pick and what I want to big with my sword this turn.

Which is why pathfinder adds in neat little things, for instance combat maneuvers.

Tfw the USSA is actually better off than the rest of the country, even with a Stalinist dictatorship.

Curious premise, though I'm averse to playing as an American or pro-American character, so I'd probably give it a pass. I'd happily play a Russian character, though, or perhaps a pro-British character in an alternate universe akin to "The Two Georges," by Harry Turtledove and Richard Dreyfuss, where the American rebellion failed/didn't happen. :p
Reminds me, not once since I joined NS have I ever done an American character in the past six odd years or so.

Hey, it's your choice. The story isn't intended to be pro-American so much as an exploration of an alternate history.

Besides, anyone that knows my predilections when it comes to alternate history knows I lean more towards showing the shitty side of America more than anything.

I think that after recent events, it's best that I leave the Pub in an "official" way. This isn't necessarily an apology but this is me saying that the outcome doesn't favor me no matter what I say or do and that it's better to cut my losses. I'm damned if I tell my side of the story because that would be seen as judging or attacking or ruining the reputation of another member or whatever you want to say that the result would be, but I'm also damned if I don't say anything because then I'm an evil OP that demoted someone and had the nerve to not give any explanation why.

There was already an argument on my thread and I'm not going to start another one here, so I won't be replying to replies to this post. If someone wants to talk to me, they can find me on the Greater Dienstad Discord server or via TG. I just think it would, you know, be a good idea to put distance between us 'officially' to avoid friction or tension or whatever now that I'm sure I'm on at least a couple of people's personal blacklists around here. Or you can see this as me waving the white flag and saying I'm not going to win the argument.

Either way... The matter between me and Anowa is closed. I hope everyone finds this to be a satisfactory resolution to the drama around the Heroes & Villains thread.
