IC

(begin Total War: Attila style narration)

It is the age of men and metal.

In the lands where the sun is warm and the soil fertile, man has built great cities, roads, and fortresses. Economies and infrastructure have given rise to a new societal structure. Writing and education bring knowledge to more than ever before, and amass great heaps of information. Kingdoms and empires have risen and fallen; great leaders remembered as demigods by some, and mere men by others. However, this generation is every bit as ambitious and tenacious as the last. Rival kings and warlords ready their armies, in anticipation of a time when they would march over their foes and achieve their dreams. Many of them underestimate one-another. Great conflicts and suffering are a certain future for some places. Others, however, may yet manage to cling to peace. However, they may not have a choice in the coming years. Will the civilized states of the south rise to a new glory, with their military might and intellectual prowess reaching new heights? Or will they succumb to the torments of war and plague, and become little more than the savages they once were?

In the cold northern lands, fierce and hardy people stir in villages and camps, hidden within the dense forests of their homeland. These people are not advanced; they have not built great cities or battled with grand armies. These people live off the land- Nay, they are the land. For longer than anyone can remember, they had lived and died in these places. Their roots are deep, and they feel the world's blood pulsing through the land. Despite their simple lives, they are no more peaceful than their warm-weather counterparts. These tribes often battle for honor, raid for resources, and fight for just about any reason their southern counterparts would. Despite their relative lack of technology, these northmen are showing signs of progress- Villages grow to unprecedented sizes, bridges are built across rivers, statues are carved, and the strength of iron has quickly spread throughout the various tribes.

Yet, there are those who dwell in places that are not so dense or fertile. These people have mobile lives, often travelling atop various beasts to ease their journeys. They plant and forage when they can, but often raid for supplies. These are the nomads. They have no homes. They exist as constantly-migrating hordes of people and animals. They set up camp to rest, but almost always relocate. Fortunately, nomadic tribes tend to only wander within certain areas, namely the eastern steppes. However, any who intrude on these lands may find themselves being run down by some of the most formidable horsemen the world has to offer. These are quite possibly the least civilized of the continent's people, but who knows what they could achieve if a great warrior-king were to unite them?

It is the age of men and metal, and the winds of change are fanning the flames of conflict.
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Welcome to Age of Men and Metal, an ancient-era P2TM nation RP. Should you decide to join the RP, you will take the lead of one of the plethora of possible factions. These factions will be almost entirely player-made, meaning I have not created more than a couple of pre-determined factions for the RP. I have given the world shape, and now you must give it meaning. This is low fantasy. Not fantasy, not realistic. Low fantasy lies between the two. Most things will be more or less realistic, while some fantasy elements will be present. For example, weak magic is allowed, as well as any mythological creature, as long as it doesn't rely on magic to exist and isn't ridiculously powerful.

If you should wish, however, you may also RP as a character inside any faction of your choice. Please note that you should not use modern names! Failure to use ancient names will result in a suspension of your app until the problem is fixed. You may deviate from "accurate" names a bit, but please do not use modern names.

Here are the things that are established:

Da Map

East Mesomarian:
The Mesomarian cultures are strewn across the peninsulas of the south, in the Mesomarian sea. They are very similar to the Mediterranean cultures of our world. In the case of East Mesomarians, they are most similar to Romans and Greeks.

West Mesomarian:
The Mesomarian cultures are strewn across the peninsulas of the south, in the Mesomarian sea. They are very similar to the Mediterranean cultures of our world. In the case of West Mesomarians, they are most similar to Iberians.

Sharistani:
The Sharistani cultures are located in the arid and desert regions of the south-east. They can be compared to real-world Iranian cultures.

Hashemic:
The Hashemic cultures are located in the western bits of the south-eastern deserts. They can be compared to real-world Semitic cultures.

Soroni:
The Soroni cultures are located in the southernmost deserts. They can be compared to real-world Saharan cultures.

Crunic:
The Crunic cultures are located directly to the north of the Mesomarians. They can be compared to real-world Celtic cultures.

Theodenic:
The Theodenic cultures are located to the east and north of the Crunes. They can be compared to real-world Germanic cultures.

Valinic:
The Valinic cultures are located in the middle latitudes of the eastern steppes and mountains. They can be compared to real-life Slavic cultures.

Uldinic:
The Uldinic cultures are located in the southern latitudes of the eastern steppes. They can be compared to real-life Scythian and Altaic cultures.

More may possibly be added.

Deuism:
Popular among Mesomarians, Deuism describes the universe having been created by one of two pre-existing beings. The creator, known as the Prothesis, created the universe in order to gain power from its inhabitants in order to defeat its evil twin, the Antithesis. In terms of customs, it is very similar to Christianity. However, sacrifices are more common. Sacrifices can be anything flammable. Church attendance is not required, but it is believed that group worship amplifies the amount of power given to the Prothesis. Neither being is assigned a specific gender, and they are not portrayed as particularly human in appearance. The Prothesis is usually portrayed as a humanoid being made of pure light, usually shown with its arms stretched out and with a halo around its head. The Antithesis is typically portrayed as a reddish humanoid of larger size than the Prothesis, as well as having claws and horns.

Draisanism:
Mainly seen among Theodenic people, Draisanism is a polytheistic religion largely based on values such as strength (of body, mind, and character) and honor. The chief deity is Theodus (can be written as Theoduz, Thiuduz, or Thiudus), the god of people (as in society), order, and virtue. Theodus is typically portrayed as a middle-aged man wearing relatively normal-looking winter clothes and a furry cape, with long, white hair and a flowing beard, with a scar across his left eye, wielding a huge hammer and followed by wolves. Other notable deities include Saunnis (AKA Sauniz or Saunniz), the god of war, honor, and courage, who is portrayed as a man with somewhat long brown hair and a beard, wearing golden heavy armor with a flaming sword, and Freya (AKS Freja or Frejja), the goddess of families, homes, and hunting, who is typically portrayed as a fit woman that seems both youthful and mature in her face, with long blonde hair that is sometimes tied or braided, and clothes that vary depending on the situation.

Galacism:
Spread out among the Crunic peoples, Galacism is a polytheistic faith. The most notable deities are Tutis and Tanis. Tutis is the god of the people (as in the tribe or nation) and is a protector god. He is typically portrayed as a tall, thin man with long black hair and a beard, wielding a sword and bow, and wearing simple clothes. Tanis is the thunder god, who is portrayed as an older but very fit man with long, white hair and a beard, and wearing a robe.

Haxamanism:
Primarily practiced by the Sharistani people, Haxmanism is a monotheistic faith, describing a being known as Zarathustra having created everything. One of the major aspects of the religion is that there are no other powerful beings in the religion; there is only Zarathustra and his will is absolute. Zarathustra is depicted as a man who looks to be in his 30's or 40's, with long black hair and a long, styled beard, wearing ornate robes and a ceremonial hat. He is often also depicted with wings. The religion was founded by a man named Haxamanis in the eastern regions of Sharistan.

Lhartuism:
Lhartuism is a monotheistic religion practiced across the Uldinian steppes. Lhartuists believe in Lhartu, the God of Two Faces or the Moody Lord. Lhartu has both a calm, collected and wrathful, warlike demeanor. The former inhabits the earth, which is fertile, steady, and generally constant. The latter aspect lives in the sky and is quick to anger and strike. The two aspects are referred to as the Thoughtful God and Wroth God, respectively.

I also plan to make at least one more faction, that faction being the driving force behind the first story events. I'll give you a hint.

I'm assuming your nation will be based in Nordica. Is this correct? If so, you may want to try something Old Norse or Proto-Norse for the king's name. Regardless of the specific location, his name makes him sound like a pre-Norman Englishman. Please try to use something older. If you are where I think you are, Hrodulf or Hrothiwulf (Hrothiwulf is more accurate for the time frame) would be better than Rudolf, and I don't know what to do about Oswyn. Based on the name's meaning, the literal translation for Oswin is "Gudafrijond". I will accept once the name has been fixed.

The last pre-determined faction.

NS Name: The Zagroth
RP Faction Proper Name: The Artossid Empire of All Sharistan, Hashemia, Antigonia, and Khemet
RP Faction Common Name: The Artossid Empire / The Sharisian Empire / The Sharistani Empire
Flag or Symbol: The Derafsh Vareyna
Culture Group: Sharistani
Territory: Sharistan, Hashemia, Antigonia, Khemet
Leader: Shahanshah (King of Kings) Shayârshan Artossid
Government Type: Absolute Monarchy
Short Description: The Artossid Empire first arose as a revolt in the southern territories of the late Atropanian Empire. The Artossid armies swiftly defeated the Atropanian loyalists and secured the entire empire's territory for the Artossid rulers. Several ambitious kings used the Empire's resources to lead campaigns across the eastern deserts, arid highlands, and lush river valleys. They eventually came to unite all of what is now known as Sharistan. Shayârshan's father, Arshaka, conquered Khemet, and his father, Dârayavahu, conquered Antigonia. Shayârshan has shown his eagerness to expand the Empire's grandeur even more, and many believe that another Sharisian campaign of conquest in imminent. But where? Some believe that Shayârshan's campaign will be focused on Soronia, others think he will march north, into Shaika. Either way, it seems he will be victorious. The Artossid Empire rules over a larger amount of land, people, and resources than anyone else had in known history. Despite the majority of their troops only being equipped with meager equipment, their army is world-renowned. It is a massive army, an army that is said to shake the earth when it marches. However, Shayârshan has neglected domestic affairs, and this may come to ruin him and his empire.

Since this is my own faction, it's obviously accepted. In the mean time, I will get a list of factions up.

I'm moving my apps out from the OP so I can link to them.

My apps:

NS Name: The Zagroth
RP Faction Proper Name: The Broning Kingdom / The Broningi Kingdom
RP Faction Common Name: The Bronings / The Broningi
Flag or Symbol: The Wolf's Cross
Culture Group: Theodenic
Territory: The northernmost half of the northwestern coast of Theodenia Inferior
Leader: King Isarnwulf Broning
Government Type: Tribal Monarchy
Short Description: The Bronings, like most Theodenic peoples, migrated south from Nordica a few centuries ago. They are great seafarers, and often use their master-crafted ships to raid the coastal areas of other peoples. Additionally, the Bronings are ferocious land fighters, being slightly better equipped than most Theodenic warriors. They typically enter combat with the Seax, a unique blade with brutal efficiency, and round shields. In relation to typical Theodenic tribes, more of the warriors have some amount of protection, ranging from leather to chainmail to lamellar armor, although it is rare. Many of them also wear helmets, although that's fairly average for a Theodenic tribe. However, Broningian helmets will sometimes include masks made to look like a human face. The Bronings are also a bit better clothed than many other tribes. Additionally, Broning villages are a bit more developed than the typical tribal village, looking something like this. Most of these developments are due to the fact that the Bronings have settled down, and have ceased migration sooner than most tribes, some of which still haven't stopped yet, some wandering around Theodenia, others continuing to march outward, to the east, west, and south.

NS Name: The Zagroth
Character Full Name: Isarnwulf Theodariksson Broning
Character Common Name: Isarnwulf / King Isarnwulf
Appearance:
Image

Age: 20
Affiliated Faction: Bronings
Culture: Theodenic
Home Location: Bronastad, Broning Land
Personality: Somewhat introverted, but not so much that it impedes his ability to rule. He is noted not to talk much, but he's not exactly a silent man. Despite continuing the policy of raids on foreign lands for various gains, Isarnwulf has a notably strong sense of justice and "goodness". Apart from these raids, the king has been noted to be a relatively kind ruler. Despite his age, he is a skilled fighter and tactician, and is not to be underestimated.
Bio: Isarnwulf lived a fairly normal life for tribal nobility, gaining whatever skills were expected of him and doing as he was required to prepare himself for the future. He practiced these skills more often than most, however, and it would come to pay off after the early death of his father to illness. His mother is still alive and resides in Bronastad. His sister was taken captive by unknown raiders and is presumed to be lost forever. Being a young king, Isarnwulf faced many challenges when he took the crown. Many saw him as too young, too weak and inexperienced. However, Isarnwulf showed them that he was every bit as competent as his father.
Items/Inventory: Broning Royal Lamellar Armor, Broning Royal Helmet and Mask, Broning Royal Langseax, Broning Royal Round Shield, maps, provisions, and a war horn.
Special Abilities (Nothing too powerful, please): None.

I wonder what relationship they'd have with the Arens

NS Name: The Zagroth

They likely wouldn't really have much of a relationship. They aren't exactly close, geographically speaking.

Since you said the Arens were in the north and were near mountains, I assumed they were in Nordica, which is that peninsula in the far north.

Yes, please.

NS Name: Novask, Federation of
RP Faction Proper Name: Królestwo Szasowe/[The] Shasovian Kingdom
RP Faction Common Name: Szasow/Shasov
Flag or Symbol: https://s13.postimg.org/4w96wfxnb/flag.png
Culture Group: Valinic
Territory: West Valinia, plenty of fields and forests
Leader: King Pridbór Radomir
Government Type: Dynastic monarchy (with an advisory council)
Short Description: Having strayed from their Nordic cousins' migration, the Shasovian peoples live relatively comfortably, farming for sustenance beside a large river. Danger is usually just fending off nomads, the current leader allowing troops to freely raid foreigners regardless of banner. Shasovian troops are typically armed with spears or axes, and a large wood shield to protect them, since armour is usually a set of chainmail, leather, or a mixture of both for the unluckier men. Horses are the biggest signs of a warrior's status, with the king having the strongest steed in the lands, and any man who has a reliable and loyal animal must be of high status. To have your horse stripped from you is seen as rather shameful, but horses are not the cornerstone of Shasovian culture.

Your typical village in Shasov consists of dark wood walls and a thatched or tiled roof, with little windows and a chimney if you're lucky. Large "drinking halls" populate settlements as the centre of a community, and stone churches for Draisanism reside in the largest villages and the few towns.

NS Name: Great Canadian Dominion
RP Faction Proper Name: Confederation of Valinia
RP Faction Common Name: Valinia
Flag or Symbol: Image
Culture Group: Valinic and Bypsyain
Territory: Valinia *As much of it as I can get, preferably northeastern*
Leader: Chieftan Kazimer Mislav, Chieftan Kizzy Mirigii and Chieftan Slavomir Miroslav. They are are partially controlled by the Grand Chieftan Vlad Bogdan, but have power, and exist to keep a balance in the government and control certain regions.
Government Type: Tribal democracy.
Short Description: Valinia is a coalition of several Valinic tribes which united several hundred years ago. They believe in a modified version of Draisanism, Valinic Draisanism. Each chieftain, other than the Grand Chieftain controls specified autonomous regions within the nation, but the Grand Chieftain controls the entire nation as part of a centralized government when dealing with foregin policies and the military during dire times, which is loosely spread throughout different regions of Valinia

Tribes/regions include the Bypsyians *Bypsyain* which is based on Roma, the Slàbhach *Pholainn* and the Yesilavi *Yesilavi*, Mirussian *Mirussia* all of which, excluding Bypsyain, are very similar with almost unnoticeable differences. They all, of course deny this. The Bypsyians are commonly bullied and segregated because of their culture and its differences. Alcohol defines all of their culture, except the poor Bypsyians..
Soldiers are typically armed with wooden, round shields covered in leather, poleaxes, spears and longbows. Horses are sometimes used, and the government is working to tame bears as mounts for combat. Bypsyians use long daggers and more cubical shields.

I'm fine with Draisanism, I'll slightly change the names of deities to match their language IC. As for a "plan", could you elaborate what you mean?
