Quick check suggests the US military spent $452,355 per active personnel in 2015. This world is full of Communists and Imperialist Monarchists, itching for fights. Plus DEI means prepping for war. It is a lot of money, but a lot of that is ships, drones, aircraft, et cetera.

The Dutch be our friends, bite them we will if someone attacks it.

I don't know why they're planning to interfere in something as lowly as a local colonial rebellion. Keeping control over Dutch colonies is a Dutch responsibility, and I'm sure the Minister of Finance will balk at the price, which would be mostly lost. Sure, a bunch of Malaysian Ultranationalists may have raided some of our weapons shipments, but doesn't that mean we're the victims here, too, and of Dutch incompetence? There's no need to come over all the way from Europe for it.

Malaysian pan-nationalism combined with India not being of interest to us. Dutch are right there in Australasia, which is a potential long-term threat, but Singapore is tiny and smartphones can be price-dumped there.

Trade relations are better. They treat their colonies fairly well, and aren't really a huge nuisance. And they depend on the Strait of Malacca which we only partially control (because of the Dutch).

We're willing to give the Britannians more options in the region as well. More ports. Better access to the Pacific. The works.
