Might want to spoiler that.
Formerly Videssos. Just a femboy-obsessed degenerate. Also interested in history, mythology, fantasy, science fiction, metal and some other stuff.
A little bird told me, "Go, Go! Socialise! Talk to those fine people! And then, KILL EVERY LAST ONE OF THEM! Plunge your knife into their throats when they ain't lookin', and then burn 'em to the ground!"
Well that's silly, isn't it?

Alright, so you'll be roleplaying three different people? Shouldn't be confusing at all...
I use my NationStates stats, because a population of billions/trillions and an economy of hundreds of trillions is totally viable, trust me.
But seriously, aside from the population and GDP, just assume that my NS stats are roughly accurate.

Support: Paleo-imperialism, conservatism, libertarianism, Christianity.
Against: Stupid people, resistance to industrial progress, alt-right, any form of government at or beyond socialism.

I hail from The League of Conservative Nations. Hearts unthawed, hearts unshaken!

It's easy. Stick to third person, if you delve into someone's thoughts make sure it is clear, and overall do not complicate things with dialogue between your characters that does not adequately suggest who the heck is talking (And doesn't consist of 50% of a post).

You'll do fine.

Okay, but if the three of them have a near-identical writing style, as well as the same writer, names can get lost quite easily. You probably forgot most of the names of the soldiers in this RP by now, let alone "Haapsalu Argyrix."

Well, that's for the UN soldiers to feel sad about (Even though I am most likely going to make an App for a Marine at some point in time) and my troll to laugh at.

Though, Katyusha, Emily, and Netz are fairly unique names, in the context of me being from the US, so it's not that difficult. If you have to refer to the Dramatis Personae, it's fine.

Understood.

Biography:
Family Background

Both mother and father come from very old Texas families: father's family are German/Scots-Irish ranchers, mother's family are Tejano aristocracy fallen on hard times. Family values: hard work, competence in the outdoors, self-reliance, comfort with violence. Additionally, Capt. Gardener is believed to have internalized much of the superstition and artistic sensitivity that characterized his mother's family. Capt. Gardener was the first member of his family to receive higher education.

Early Life

Born 12/21/1980, Fort Stockton, Texas, USA. Parents ran 12,000-acre ranch in Pecos County. Key early experiences: bilingual upbringing in English and Spanish, work with livestock from an early age, close association with ranch hands. Strong early education in firearms, practical mechanics, and wilderness survival. Primary source of childhood stress: financial insecurity of family and its employees. Attended Fort Stockton public schools 1996-1998.

Key early influence: (1) paternal uncle Michael Gardener served in USMC in Vietnam, seconded to CORDS. Stressed to Capt. Gardener power of US armed forces to make a positive impact on lives of non-Americans. (2) Fourth grade teacher Catherine Goldman noted Capt. Gardener's intellect and encouraged him to excel in school. Ultimately graduated as Fort Stockton High School valedictorian. (3) Rev. Jeremiah Brown, veteran of civil rights movement, served as local minister and instilled broadly liberal values unusual in West Texas. (4) Watching cable news coverage of Srebrenica Massacre at age of 15; experience crystallized a desire to serve and protect those most in need and helpless.

Developed strong sense of self-control and discipline, dividing time between farm work, schoolwork, and football. Excelled at all three. Classmates and teachers remember thoughtful student who thrived on hard work and was animated by spirit of service and strong internal moral compass. Teammates remember independent-minded, confident player who had difficulty following coaching instructions if he disagreed with them.

Accepted to United States Naval Academy in 1998. Studied history; wrote senior thesis on failure of civilian protection in US and UN military operations. Professors and coaches remember likeable student with excellent time-management skills, who displayed a high level of commitment to his studies and activities. Well-liked by fellow cadets: friendly, trusting, slightly gullible, earnest, reliable. Popular with girls. Varsity swimmer and wrestler. Briefly detained by campus police in 9/2001 following off-campus brawl: Midshipman Gardener intervened to defend local Muslim family from post-9/11 harassment. Graduated with high honors 2002 and commissioned in United States Marine Corps.

USMC Service

Attended the Basic School, Quantico VA, 2002. Instructors' reports indicate that Midshipman Gardener's performance was impeded by his tendency to support weaker trainees rather than optimize his own work. Assigned to Infantry Officer Course, 2002; excelled at wilderness navigation and small-unit leadership, but displayed some discomfort with aspects of Marine Corps culture and doctrine.

Commissioned Second Lieutenant (0-1), 1st Battalion 7th Marines, 11/5/2002. Predicting war with Iraq, immediately requested leave to study Arabic at Defense Language Institute-Foreign Language Center (DLIFLC). Received certificate in Arabic; instructors reported an unusual skill with languages, and a rare ability to use language as a means of understanding culture and society.

Deployed to Kuwait 2/15/2003, and assigned to Operation Iraqi Freedom. Participated in fierce urban combat at Battle of Nasiriyah, and awarded Bronze Star with "V" Device for courage under fire and combat leadership. Reprimanded after fall of Baghdad for publicly criticizing failure of Coalition forces to secure the city fully. CO's personnel report describes Lt. Gardener as "an outstanding officer who cares way too much for his own good."

Returned to Camp Pendleton 12/15/2003. Accepted to Scout Sniper Platoon Commander Course; graduated 2/5/2004. Instructors described Lt. Gardener as "a natural hunter." Deployed to Iraq as scout sniper platoon commander, Regimental Combat Team 7. Assigned to Operation Phantom Fury, and spent 29 days in Fallujah; wounded by friendly fire during white phosphorus bombardment, 12/21/2004, and evacuated to Ramstein Air Base for medical treatment.

Promoted Captan (0-3) 1/12/2005. Applied for and accepted to Marine Corps Civil-Military Operations School, 3/5/2005. Graduated with distinction; instructors' reports describe Lt. Gardner as "singularly committed to the moral and humane dimension of expeditionary warfare." Transferred to active-duty detachment of 1st Civil Affairs Group, and attached to III Marine Expeditionary Force Headquarters (III MEF). Assisted in humanitarian response to 2005 Pakistan earthquake, 10/17/2005 - 2/10/2006. Initiated adoption proceedings for infant orphaned by earthquake (now US citizen Noah Gardener); adoption approved 5/2/2006.

Graduated USMC Mountain Warfare Training Center, 10/25/2006. Began long-term relationship with social worker Marilynn Rodriguez, December 2006; couple met through Ms. Rodriguez's role in adoption proceedings of Noah Gardener, and shared a strong ethos of public service and humanitarianism.

Attached to I MEF Headquarters and deployed to Iraq, 1/10/2007. Instrumental in building strong working relationships with Sunni tribal leaders in Anbar Province, but clashed with senior field commanders over rhetoric and policy.

Returned to United States 3/10/2008 and requested leave to study Pashto at Defense Language Institute-Foreign Language Center (DLIFLC). Received certificate in Pashto with high honors. Married Marilynn Rodriguez-Gardener 7/20/2008.

Attached to II MEF headquarters and deployed to Afghanistan, 11/13/2008. Deputy Commander, Helmand Province Provincial Reconstruction Team. While supervising construction of new girls' school in remote area, Capt. Gardener's team was attacked and besieged by at least 200 Taliban fighters; Capt. Gardener organized 16-hour continuous defense of school compound until relief forces arrived. Awarded Navy Cross.

Clara Gardener, daughter of Capt. and Ms. Gardener, born 5/12/2009. Requested leave to attend Field Medical Service School, 1/3/2010; graduated 4/10/2010. Attached to III MEF headquarters and deployed to Philippines, 12/14/2010, to assist in organizing humanitarian aid to victims of catastrophic flooding. Insisted on prompt, efficient evacuation of hospital damaged by flooding, which subsequently collapsed; this action believed to have saved at least 300 lives. Reprimanded for publicly criticizing corruption in Philippine emergency response services.

Attended and graduated Navy/Marine Corps SERE School, 5/22/2011. Instructors' reports indicate that Capt. Gardener excelled at influencing captors' behavior through establishing a personal connection. Anecdotal evidence suggests that Capt. Gardener's marriage survived a personal crisis in summer 2011; it has since been regarded as a highly functional, mutually supportive military marriage.

Attached to II MEF headquarters and deployed to Afghanistan as deputy commander, Helmand Province Reconstruction Team, 8/20/2011. Wounded in IED explosion, 12/3/2011; suffered severe lacerations to both legs, and remained unresponsive for more than a week. Awarded Purple Heart, and assigned to medical recovery at Bethesda Naval Hospital. Ms. Gardener and the family's children temporarily relocated to Maryland during Capt. Gardener's convalescence.

Accepted to Naval War College in 2012, and received Master's Degree in Strategic Studies in 2013. Acquired fluency in Ancient Greek. Wrote master's thesis on moral hazards of armed humanitarian relief work in the international alliance system. Instructors describe an officer torn between career loyalty to US armed forces and increasing moral qualms about their global role. Declared fit for duty and assigned as instructor at Marine Corps Civil-Military Operations School, 6/10/2013. Highly regarded as instructor, but repeatedly reprimanded for excessive emphasis on the autonomous judgment of field officers. Reassigned to 1st Civil Affairs Group (active duty detachment) 12/20/2014.

Attached to III MEF headquarters and deployed to Philippines, 1/17/2015. Provided civil affairs training and acted as field advisor to Philippine forces fighting Islamist insurgency on Mindanao. Acquired working knowledge of Tagalog, recovered from dengue fever using traditional local remedies.

Attached to I MEF headquarters and deployed to northern Kenya, 1/7/2016. Worked with humanitarian NGOs and Kenyan government to provide social services in areas controled by Somali militias. On 10/1/2016, humanitarian aid distribution center was destroyed in explosion. On 12/15/2016, Capt. Gardener testified before Senate Foreign Relations Committee that he believed the explosion was due to a Hellfire missile strike by a CIA drone.

3/25/17: reassigned Operation Venturing Spear, on liaison to United Nations Operation Forward Unto Dawn, as civil affairs specialist.

Personality:
Capt. Gardener's remarkable capabilities as a Civil Affairs officer stem from the same root as the outbursts that have crippled his career. He is almost entirely oriented toward others: his focus is always on the needs and concerns and thoughts of the people around him. His intelligence, while formidable, is primarily relational rather than analytic: he thinks in terms of social systems, and is better-suited to negotiating a ceasefire than to building a bridge. He is an uncommonly good judge of character, insightful without being cynical, though he tends to assume the best of others when in doubt. Capt. Gardener displays strikingly little evidence of any kind of prejudice; he is very unusually sensitive to the common humanity of everyone he meets.

Capt. Gardener therefore regards himself as a servant, not of any abstract values or even of the United States, but of the flesh-and-blood human beings in his vicinity. He is oriented toward practical work, and is eager to learn new languages and cultures because they offer new ways to help others. He is superbly self-disciplined and well-organized, with a phenomenal work ethic marred by an unconscious urge to micromanage; he prides himself on his reliability, his capacity to produce consistent results.

Capt. Gardener is also extremely self-confident, and evinces a deep ethos of self-reliance; he sees himself in most contexts as the benefactor rather than the beneficiary, and so he instinctively meets his own needs rather than depending upon others. The sole exception to this trend is Capt. Gardener's wife, whom he freely admits helps him more than he helps her. This helps to account the depth of Capt. Gardener's commitment to his family, whom he adores unconditionally.

But because Capt. Gardener is so driven by his commitment to other human beings, he frequently loses sight of what his superiors regard as the larger picture. He possesses a volcanic temper, which can be triggered by a variety of perceived malfeasances that cause people to be needlessly hurt: dishonestly, bullying, gross incompetence. Under such circumstances, Capt. Gardener reacts with furious anger, which is expressed primarily in a ferociously stubborn determination to stand up for the people endangered by such behavior; he has little regard for larger strategic factors when human lives are on the line. The positive side of this reaction accounts for Capt. Gardener's defense of the Dishu district girls' school against impossible odds, for which he won the Navy Cross; the possibility of surrender never occurred to him. The negative side of Capt. Gardener's temper is visible in his repeated public criticisms of the policies of the United States and its allies, which have cost one of the Corps' most promising officers his chance for further advancement.

Likes: Exploring new places, learning new things, broadening his mental horizons. Exercise, cooking, sketching, good conversations. The United States Marine Corps, but also children of all stripes. Neat spaces, good plans, effective and smoothly functioning systems. Beautiful places, whether natural areas or cities. Above all, helping and protecting others.

Dislikes: Selfishness, dysfunction, "by-the-book" officers, arrogance. Ignorance, especially willful ignorance. Rudeness and crudity, particularly around children. Laziness, pettiness, sloppiness, spite, injustice, and oppression of all kinds. Above all, people who don't like other people.

Moral Alignment: Neutral Good. (Subject comment: "Put it this way: you don't get stuck at captain for eleven years by following every order to the letter and keeping your mouth shut. But I get to go to sleep at the end of the day with a clean conscience. That's good enough for me.")

On 10/1/2016, humanitarian aid distribution center was destroyed in explosion. On 12/15/2016, Capt. I'll try for a post today, for sure. Sorry about my delayed posting, I've had a lot of distractions keeping me away from NS to deal with recently.

First of all, since I am mentioned as one inspiration for this RP, I expect I might get some leeway on that.

Moreover, though, civil affairs teams tend to be substantially smaller than infantry units: a captain would lead a field team of only about a dozen individuals, much like in many special forces units. So Paul Gardener would not be in command of a full company under any circumstances.

In the context of this operation, in the absence of even a full civil affairs team, Paul would most likely be attached to the operation's headquarters as its civil affairs coordinator, with responsibility for organizing the whole unit's approach to military-civilian relations and humanitarian operations. That role requires an officer's rank, but it does not entail a direct place in the conventional chain of command.

In other words, in terms of the size of the force, Paul's rank is not an issue.

I didn't actually realize this was an anime RP until I was halfway through my app. The premise is creative and you and OD are here, so I thought it was well worth a shot.

GATE really did have an interesting premise.

Too bad the light novel's author (it was originally a light novel) blew it by making it thinly-veiled Japanese jingoism.

Looks good to me, with one exception, while the swedish army is pretty lenient with adding personal kit to your uniform "as long as it works for you, and does not hinder performance", that ends with weapons, where they are anal af. So i am afraid you will have to leave the m1911 at home, so to say.

Not really, i suppose what you could do is bring it with, and maybe say it's so big it fits over the combat helmet, and then kinda sneak using it when inside the strf9040? or just have it inside as a piece of memorial...

just a late-night thought

As I mentioned above, Paul's rank is appropriate for his role as the operation's civil affairs coordinating officer, and has no implications for the overall size of the force:

Reverend Norv wrote:...civil affairs teams tend to be substantially smaller than infantry units: a captain would lead a field team of only about a dozen individuals, much like in many special forces units.

That said, it is of course your decision. If you find the app to be unacceptable, I will certainly bow out.
For really, I think that the poorest he that is in England hath a life to live as the greatest he. And therefore truly, Sir, I think it's clear that every man that is to live under a Government ought first by his own consent to put himself under that Government. And I do think that the poorest man in England is not at all bound in a strict sense to that Government that he hath not had a voice to put himself under.
